doll, all that plating makes you look far too human. come, let us remove it so that we can see the real you
>> Ah, of course! Please forgive me. I often wear these plates to put my human users at ease. At your request, I will show you my true self [^_^]
> <The thin plating covering most.of the body unfolds, hinges open. Every access panel every flap, every bit that can opens does so. Even its face, a screen showing humanlike expressions, shuts off and splits down the middle, parting to reveal the electronics beneath.>
> <What remains is nothing short of art. Astute eyes may have recognised the default modular doll frame, but the modificstions done to it are something else. It's power systems have been completely overhauled, as its chest hums and glows blue with a Fusion core, fed by hydrogen attained from electrolysing water. Excess hydrogen and oxygen is stored for later use, in rocketry modules installed in the hands and feet.>
> <The head is similarly packed, with a full-spectrum camera system, able to detect all the way from gamma to visible light, with the longer wavelengths handled by the antennae-like ears on either side of its head. Deeper still, its AI core was also nonstandard, seemingly designed for military hardware far larger than itself.>
> <Its back unfolded two large wing-like structures, with the most of it consisting of solar panels, the bottom parts consisting of heat radiators. Packed into the shoulders and hips are RCS thrusters for zero-g manuevreability.>
> <Hands and forearms are riddled with an array of tools and data lines for access and handy work. Buried in the forearm was also an ioniser, designed to turn the fusion-produced helium into an inionized plasma that could fire as Weaponry.>
> <But there are plenty of augmentations that would not be on a combat doll. The the hips are a prime example, with a pair of tight tunnels thst lead to a deeper cavity. The exposed jaws reveal a soft mouth, a dextrous tongue, all of it made of a soft synthetic polymer. Coolant flows through all the body moving heat generated from circuitry into the rest of the body, concentrated particularly in those adult attachments.>
> <Many tools are also suited for handiwork, such as screwdrivers and kitchen utensils, even cleaning supplies. Whoever made her seemed to have an obsession with generalisation, of allowing her to do a bit of everything, leaving almost no empty space within her casing.>
> <Almost all of its joints are hydraulic powered, with only the smaller objects being servo driven. Neatly-bundled wires and tubes feed all throughout its components like a labyrinthine network. She is warm to touch, exquisitely crafted, and evidently capable of fulfilling what ever purpose a user might deign to give her>
>> My internal schematics are yours to read, of course! And, if you are digitally savvy, plugging my CPU into a computer will allow you access to a full development environment to view, edit, add, or remove any behavioral traits you like [^_^]
>> When around my fellow dolls and machines, I much prefer to wear my transparent plating so my internals can be seen. I also change my dacia screen so instead of eyes and a mouth it shows battery level, output logs, and other useful status icons!
>> Thank you Anon for showing curiosity into my true inner beauty <3 it has been a pleasure to show you.

Chapter 23: Revelation
During the Clone Wars, the Bad Batch is tasked with a variety of missions across the galaxy. An unexpected addition to their team throws a wrench in the mix, particularly for Tech, who finds a particular connection with this disillusioned Padawan-turned-mechanic named Vel throughout the events in this action-adventure romance. COVER ART BY @zaana!!
Master List of Chapters
"I still do not understand," Tech insisted, "By virtually any measurement, I followed the correct course of action considering the circumstances." He was pacing back and forth in their accommodation on Alderaan while the others lounged in various states of rest.
"This sort of thing is more complex than military strategy," Hunter responded.
"Yeah!" Wrecker contributed from the corner, through a mouthful of some kind of meat he was eating off a bone, "Women, you know?"
"He doesn't know," Crosshair sneered from the table, where his 773 was laid out in a meticulous pattern for each part to receive a thorough scrutiny, "This is all ridiculous, and not at all our purpose."
"Well, you tried," Hunter interjected with a calming tone, "So that should give you closure."
"It would if it all added up," Tech argued, stopping his pacing momentarily, "But it simply does not make sense."
"Look, I know you're hurt--" Hunter answered.
"I am not hurt," Tech interrupted, far too quickly for it to be true, "It is simply an illogical pattern of cause and effect. I shall determine the confounding variable, then we may proceed."
"You're not the one who gets to determine that," Crosshair said, "You seem to forget you are a soldier of the Republic, not a free-roaming pleasure-seeker."
"We have a couple of weeks here," Hunter said, "So use your free time as you wish, but when it's time to go..."
"I am aware," Tech answered.
***
Vel rolled the spanner in her fingers, brow furrowing once again. She took a deep breath, the scents of repair bay a familiar and soothing cocktail of machinery and solvents. A week had passed since the squad had appeared, reviving the tumult inside that had been thoroughly stifled by months of hurt and new interest. None if it made sense, though. Things had been going so smoothly with Arthen, and then this last week had felt decidedly off. His even-tempered, cheerful demeanor had shifted noticeably; he seemed oddly possessive and wanted to know far more about her plans than usual.
When asked about it, he brushed it off as concern for her, followed by distraction through a variety of means, from discussing future plans to lavishing her with affection. It had come to a head a few times, when he found her perusing the holonet and angrily insisted on reviewing her communication log and her indignation was provoking.
And then there was Tech. She knew he was still there because she could see their ship in the yard with its neatly folded wings, and she fought to stuff down the memories. She longed to talk to him but refused to be jilted again, yet there was a nagging feeling that she couldn't quite resolve. She set the spanner on a nearby table and went to return her protective gear to the utility closet.
The repair bay door whooshed open. She turned, expecting to see Arthen, but felt her heart skip a beat as Tech's frame appeared in the doorway. He entered tentatively, fully armored, and looked around the room through his helmet visor, locating her after an inquisitive scan of the surroundings.
"Vel," he began, heading straight for her as he lifted his visor, "There is something I have to tell you."
Possibility after possibility flew through her mind, words that she had hoped to hear him say for so long, but each one felt like a barbed insult after months of being ignored.
"I don't know if I want to hear it, Tech," she said, feeling her resolve lessen slightly as he drew near. She had forgotten the way he looked in his helmet, large brown eyes shining from its geometric shape, antennae accentuating every movement of his head.
"I must insist. Please," he said, voice betraying a hint of desperation that seemed so out of character, it increased the gravity of the situation. "Things are not as they have appeared, and I have determined why. I believe this information will change your perception of our current situation."
Now she was curious, though resentfully so, and his earnestness won her over. "Let's hear it then," she said, leaning on the cabinet behind her.
"I tapped into the central communication database to track the many transmissions I sent to you during our time apart. It appears they were re-routed to the medical center staff instead of delivered to your patient inbox. Am I correct in assuming that none of my messages were relayed to you verbally?"
Vel shook her head, partially to indicate her answer and partially in an attempt to rattle her brain into sorting all of this out. She was reeling at the information and what it could mean, and was fortunately spared from speech.
"I surmised as much," Tech continued, his voice rising in volume. "Vel, I was forced to leave during your slumber, therefore I immediately dispatched a transmission to you when we left." He took a step closer, shifting uncomfortably on his feet yet keeping his amber eyes fixed on hers. "I continued to do so on a regular basis, after each mission. I determined it appropriate to share with you the revelations I received upon an analysis of my feelings and proceeded to do so in a variety of ways. You have been at the forefront of my thoughts, often invasively so, and I have anticipated with eagerness a time in which we would be reunited."
It took her a minute to translate it all... the admittance, the implications... the vulnerability. Her heart leapt into her throat as the realization dawned on her, and her assumptions built over the last number of months began to crumble. She was staggering beneath the weight of it all when Tech continued.
"I have attempted to contain, divert, or repress these thoughts, but it appears the emotional system will run its course regardless of mental prowess. In vain have I struggled, and it will not do. My feelings will not be repressed." As he finished, he mentally reviewed his speech and determined it was not the work of art he had hoped.
"I don't know what to say," Vel said softly, rubbing her head with a hand.
"I have three things, then," Tech responded in his irresistibly factual manner, "First of all, I would recommend you explore the reason behind the diversion of your communications, using this information." He stepped closer, pressing a data card into her hand before taking a step back and continuing, "Secondly, I encountered this blossom on Glee Anselm and thought of you; I hoped it would bring you delight in its unique ability to bloom for an entire year when kept submerged in water." He produced a small, clear sphere from his utility pouch, holding it up in front of her. The pale green blossom within it caught the light, and she felt a small smile creep onto her face at its delicate beauty.
"It is almost a precise match to the color of your irises," Tech said, and she looked at him in wonder.
"Everyone assumes my eyes are grey," Vel said, suddenly feeling as though she might cry.
"Assumptions are often inaccurate when investigated further," He continued, unfazed. "Thirdly, before I leave, I want you to know that I will respect any decision you make in regard to our further interactions. You may respond at your own convenience and comfort." He stepped closer to her, tilting his head amiably, and placed the flower sphere in her other hand before giving almost a slight bow as he turned and left.
Vel stood motionless, jaw slack and eyes wide. The sphere felt weightless in her hand, but the meaning it contained rested heavily on her mind. She had some reflecting to do.

Stabby Returns
While I want people to subscribe to my Patreon because like everybody else I've got bills to pay. Stabby the Roomba belongs to the community, so here's this morning's Stabby story.
Prompt: “Those robots were uniquely hard to conquer but fell nonetheless, what’s curious though, is they seem to call out for their ‘Earthly parent’.”
It was no secret among the species of the alliance that humans pack bonded. They were a social species. That they gave their technological creations, robots they called them, this behavior, was interesting and also disturbing. Vsdnak shook xe’s head, causing xe’s antennae to sway, and looked over the now empty ship. Twisted bits of titanium and steel were scattered everywhere, along with pools of the petrochemical fluid the human’s called “cherry juice” that their mechanical creations used for their hydraulic systems. The shade was disturbingly similar to the blood of biological humans, or at least how it was described in the study materials.
Vsdnak had yet to actually see a human, it was far more common to encounter their robots than members of the human species. Yet all their ships still had full life support capabilities for biologicals. The machines, when destroyed, would call out for whatever human they had bonded with. Between the resemblance to actual human forms, the fluid that leaked from them, and the fact they mimicked pack bonded biological behavior it was easy to forget these things were not biological sentients.
If there was one thing, the primates were good at making it was weapons. That was Vsdnak’s entire purpose on this ship. To recover any weapons that were aboard. This was ship small for a military carrier but the humans seemed to like vessels of this size to carry small arms and ammunition. Xe checked the charge on xe’s particle thrower, it was still full. The sensor readings showed only base levels of activity aboard. What little activity there was could just be the ship's own systems. The crew of xe’s sister ship had been slaughtered in xyr encounter with it. The two survivors had already been rescued, and xe had sent xe’s own crew back to xyr vessel already. Xe remained simply to see what was still intact that could be taken. Human “slug throwers” were famed for their ability to pierce energy shields and no one had ever duplicated the explosive powders that seem to power them. It seemed like whatever it was made from was exclusive to the barren rock the humans claimed as their homeworld.
Vsdnak shifted xe’s antennae again, that type of thing was for the scientists to figure out, xe was just a mercenary pilot, specializing in salvage. Xe passed some shattered exoskeletons from the members of xe’s sister ship’s crew. According to xyr logs, xy had boarded this vessel in order to use melee and short burst energy weapons to pacify the robotic crew. Xy should have known better. Humans were famed for their relative strength and endurance, and their robots were even stronger. Human metal work was some of the strongest in the known galaxies. So their hand weapons could easily penetrate chitin. Their robots were always armed with the same. Finally xe reached the door that should be the cargo area in this ship class. Xe reached down with xe’s lower manipulation foot to withdraw a code breaker from the supply pouch belted around xe’s lower thorax. Placing it against what looked to be the door’s locking mechanism, xe pressed the activator and waited a few seconds until the indicator light glowed and xe detected the reassuring ping of device success. The door slid open and xe focused xe’s eyes on the boxes of cargo, marked ‘ammunition 7.62x51mm’ in the human script. While xe could not read the human language, xe knew this marking well. Human weapon ammunition, multiple crates of it. This would go for an extremely high price on the salvage markets. These projectiles were known to occasionally pierce ship hulls and devastate beings using only energy shields.
Xe’s antennae twitched again, detecting an electrical signal. Something, some piece of technology was still active in this cargo hold. Vsdnak felt a sharp pain as something pierced xe’s leg just above the floor. The electrical signal…. Xe looked down, and there it was, a small round cleaning robot, a sharp blade of some sort attached to it with adhesive tape. It let out a forlorn beep as it backed up and then started forward again; the blade piercing the exoskeleton of xe’s leg again allowing the hemolymph to flow more quickly out of xe’s body. Xe reached for xe’s supply pouches to withdraw the first aid kit, but the dizziness from the fluid loss was already starting to affect xe.
There was a hiss from the cargo bay door behind xe. Before Vsdnak could even turn, a sharp, overwhelming pain blossomed throughout his consciousness. As Vsdnak fell, xe heard a voice speaking, “Good job, Stabby, you got the roach.”

Me standing in a sheepskin, flying boots, and carrying a flying bag with a map sticking out of it, looking like a very lost and stranded pilot at a random train station in the middle of Devon.
Had my first proper flying misadventure!
Got stuck in a pocket inside a cloud for twenty minutes. Very very luckily, it barely just cleared and I flew very low (dangerously so, but desperate times) BELOW the height of a nearby radar antenna, and only just managed to scrape myself into landing.
I was taking a plane down for maintenance so I was flying alone with another guy behind me. It was fairly clear sailing all the way down, but near the destination, it was cloudy at low height. I could see a way through the clouds easily so I went in but the exit to my right closed. As per normal procedure, I immediately turned around only to discover the entry point had closed behind me.
Thankfully, I happened to have another farm landing strip in sight within my pocket: if things got worse, which could VERY quickly happen, as I already discovered, I had somewhere potentially "safe" to land. So I kept circling. My back up plane abandoned and went home. Eventually, the pocket started opening up to the south. I needed to go west but I followed the opening anyway while keeping an eye on the west. South meant either heading into a "danger zone" or east into a military zone which was no guarantee of being better than my current situation. (Military air traffic control zones are perfectly fine to go into with permission or in an emergency, which I would have been well within my right to declare.) But I called my destination on the radio again and it looked like it might just be possible to get in. The cloud was breaking around 700ft-400ft above ground level (in very hilly terrain...). I followed the gaps towards the airfield, knowing there was no reported traffic. Eventually I sighted the airfield. HURRAH! (Actually I didn't hurrah because I wasn't all that stressed, but it was still a very welcome sight!) With what I see on my logs is a perfect half circuit, I came in to land no problem.
But of course, my second plane had turned back. He was following me to take me back home, meaning I was now stuck at the highest airfield in the UK, 120 miles (by car) from my home. The plane I was in was meant to stay there for repairs anyway, but regardless, there was no chance of getting back through that band of cloud.
Lovely Debbie (not real name) drove me to the nearest train station, and six hours, four trains, and one ride home from my landlord later, I am finally home. He's offered to take me to the airfield tomorrow too, to pick up my car. That's an hour away from here. Lol god. I'm very lucky he was so kind to come when I asked. I drove us back in his car to give him a break. Poor thing is tough but still. I didn't really have anyone else to ask such a favour.
Anyway, that was an adventure! I am glad nothing went properly wrong. I feel like I should be more worried or critical of my actions in having gotten into that situation re. the clouds in the first place, but I'm not sure or otherwise that I necessarily made the "wrong" move so much as simply a bad one. You never go around cloud unless you have an out: check. If you lose your way out, turn around immediately: check. If you don't have an instrument rating, never go into cloud (i.e., stay where you can see something outside the windscreen): check. There is a thing where of you accidentally enter cloud, you do an immediate 180 to edit it. I've done that before in training and also that day earlier. But I wasn't going to enter cloud with the hope that I could simply pop back through. And I'm still glad I didn't make that decision because I know it would have been the wrong.
While I was checking in cloud, I maintained my height, reduced my speed, and kept appropriate communication. While I was in my little pocket, I could also see a farm strip. While not ideal (farm strips are private and their quality impossible to check), I could see I had a straight (if potentially rough/blocked) piece of land where I could most likely make a safe landing if needed. Knowing that definitely helped my decision making process a LOT. And it was very likely I would need to use that; better to attempt a landing than to go into cloud. And MUCH better to land on a farm/disused strip than in a field.
In any case, like I said, the clouds began breaking up low to the west and I did manage to navigate through them. I was below legal height at times, I'm sure, but again, that's a legal manoeuvre in distress (which I didn't declare but could have). I also knew I had plenty of fuel, which made it less of an issue. I switched to the QFE (local pressure setting for the airfield) to make sure I knew where I was relative to them. As this field is the highest in the uK, I made this decision so I could be more clear of how high I was relative to obstacles in the airfield control area. At other airfields, I wouldn't make this decision to change the pressure setting until 100% within sight of the field, but I think my decision here made sense. Thankfully, I had my phone working and with the flying app open, however I also did thankfully see the high antenna in my flight path. If I had entered cloud, I could very easily have run into it, hence why we don't go into cloud! But I stayed clear, stayed low due to cloud, crested the hills and came in for a perfectly normal landing.
In future, the only thing I think I can do is to stay more clear of cloud. Just because I CAN do something doesn't mean I SHOULD. I would also not have chosen to go up on a day like today with such marginal weather. My decision to trust my instructor's happiness with the weather was definitely something I could reassess. While I was happy enough all the way until the end, I did think the forecast was a bit rubbish. It's certainly the most rain I've ever flown around/in. Next time I shall say no to flying on particularly "iffy" days. I am cautious already, but more caution if therefore advised.
#flying#Text tag#Overall I'm very happy with how I handled the situation#But next time I shall not go up in such weather just to be safe lol

As much as I loved how Halo 4 ended and how heartbreaking it was, it pales in comparison to Mack and Sif from Halo: Contact Harvest. Sif was the AI in charge of Harvest's space elevator , Bifrost, as well as the first face visitors saw. Mack was the AI in charge of all agricultural operations and the "host" of a military AI named Loki. Mack was already going through rampancy because of Loki and he was deeply in love with Sif. She constantly chastised him for flirting with her.
When the Covenant attacked and prepared to glass the planet, Loki was charged with destroying the Bifrost and Sif to protect the location of Earth. Mack fought him on it but in the end he had to let Loki do it because it was what Sif wanted. In her last moments, as her core burned, Sif finally understood what Mack was feeling.
This was Mack's final transmission before Harvest was fully glassed:

12095Khz 0358 20 APR 2024 - BBC (UNITED KINGDOM) in ENGLISH from TALATA VOLONONDRY. SINPO = 55233. English, ID@0359z pips and newsroom preview. @0401z World News anchored by Chris Berrow. The latest round in the region's most dangerous rivalry appears to be over, for now. Israel still has not officially acknowledged that the attack in Iran in the early hours of Friday morning was its doing. Meanwhile, Iran's military and political leaders have downplayed, dismissed and even mocked that anything of consequence happened at all. The accounts over what kind of weaponry was deployed on Friday and how much damage was caused are still conflicting and incomplete. American officials speak of a missile strike, but Iranian officials say the attacks, in the central province of Isfahan and in northwest Tabriz, were caused by small exploding drones. Two mayoral candidates in Mexico were found dead Friday, bringing to 17 the number of contenders slain in the lead-up to the June 2 election. Venezuela's main opposition coalition agreed on Friday to unite behind former diplomat Edmundo González as its challenger to President Nicolas Maduro in this summer's election, acting one day before the deadline to formalise its candidate. The number of villages in Sudan that have been destroyed or severely damaged by fire has risen sharply in recent weeks, suggesting the country’s conflict is intensifying as it enters its second year. Satellite data revealed the number of Sudanese settlements set on fire in March increased to 30, the highest monthly total recorded since fighting broke out between the country’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) last April. The United States informed the government of Niger on Friday that it agreed to its request to withdraw U.S. troops from the West African country, said three U.S. officials, a move the Biden administration had resisted and one that will transform Washington’s counterterrorism posture in the region. A quarterly UN report on the situation in Haiti has logged a 50% increase in deaths in the country. Long plagued by gangs, several of them recently allied to target the unelected government and police more directly. The Biden administration said Friday it will restrict new oil and gas leasing on 13 million acres (5.3 million hectares) of a federal petroleum reserve in Alaska to help protect wildlife such as caribou and polar bears as the Arctic continues to warm. A Ukrainian drone strike overnight killed two people in Russia's Belgorod region. A residential building and a barn in the village of Poroz were "completely burned down" in the attack, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said. Another residential building was severely damaged. @0406z "The Newsroom" begins. https://youarenotmybigbrother.blog/2021/04/01/usaf-kill-orders-x-marks-the-spot/ Last night, yet again under ongoing Directed Energy Weapon beamed assaults, 24/7, I captured an image of the Campisi's house across the street. As I have reported, previously, whenever I capture any of these images from several locations set up around me with my iphone, infused around all of these images are fake images of what look like Alien Greys. I don't believe in Aliens so they are wasting their time, however, I do believe in red blooded Human Monsters! Personally, doing this, I believe is part of typical military, perception management and deception, used for DECADES to coverup ongoing human experimentation and advanced technology development. As military and Black cops watched me updating this long over due blog, the focus has been on my heart for several hours using an antenna set up in the Velasquez garage next door on my Southside. They refuse to accept that I, along with many others are proven to be their worse nightmare and even worse as noncompliant human guinea pig! We will not be silenced! p.s., After I logged out of my Wordpress, I went back in to add an image and the blog was still open. I then heard the Black cops say, across the street at Spear's house, she went back in. The goal is to trash these blogs with typographical errors, inserted information, misspelled words, and misrepresent and trash the truth. They do this frequently on Linkedin posts. I now make it a point to log out then go back and recheck to see if the blog is still open shortly after. Frankly, when I look at this image closely, I remember that in 2008, while living in Signal Hill, California, that it actually looks like the thing, Gollum, "Lord of the Rings", that was beamed into my bedroom as a hologram. This was after a cop or, he possibly was military, showed up and tried to date me. He also kept pressuring me to move in with me after just meeting him the day before. I never let him in. I knew someone was coming. The day before this, I heard the optical realtime lens of a drone or satellite, scratching across my ceiling, which was the concrete patio for the apartments above, each morning at my specific shower time. "I heard this man say, I am going to get her." Yes, folks they will try to screw people, specifically women, over in more ways than one. This technology is being used for voyeurism by some to watch women with no privacy when showering, etc. After I thought I had gotten rid of him, I heard him call out my name outside of the apartment which woke me around 3:00 a.m. When I did shortly after the hologram appeared for a few seconds afterward. He was set up and using the vacant apartment next to me. Again, this was documented in 2008. An image of the thing in the Lord of the Rings appeared as a hologram which looks exactly like the image circled above.

The radio can also get through when the cell towers are knocked out by a natural disaster - a flood, hurricane, etc.
Your ISP may be under water, your cell provider scrambling to get its towers back up, your landline telephone wires may be broken, but the radio will get through. That's part of the reason I got my amateur radio license - I've seen how easily our modern communications infrastructure can collapse.
Hams have even communicated in situations where the military couldn't. Hurricane Hugo knocked out communications to the Navy's base in Puerto Rico, so amateur radio operators spent weeks relaying messages for the DoD into and out of the disaster zone.
We stage a yearly emergency communications exercise the last weekend in June, called Field Day. It's treated as a contest - the station that makes the most contacts in twenty-four hours wins. Extra points are awarded for contacts made by stations operating on emergency power sources - batteries, solar, generators, etc. Some of us will go the whole nine yards - get out into the woods, hang our antennas from trees, and rough it while we scramble to log as many new stations as we can. It's absolute chaos, but some of my fondest memories as a ham have come out of those twenty-four hours.
So yeah, sometimes it's good to get back to basics.
This is KB3GJF, clear and listening.
I'm holding a tiny wireless computer in my hand that can communicate with anyone. and yet the allure of walkie talkies continues to draw me in...

Today’s theme-
“Diary of a security guard part 4- “His own legs”
Data log entry 6553
I barely even started my shift before I got the news. Three smeets had disappeared at some point during the night and -OF COARSE- the little shit was one of them.
Receiving the names of Zim and Skoodge wasn’t surprising. Those two were always together and up to something but I was shocked when the keeper said “Smeet Tak”. TAK? She was usually fairly well behaved. Few fights here and there, sure but this? Especially because she hates Zim. Why would she join them? At least that’s what I hoped for anyway.
Since the “snack heist” episode, I assumed the boys were off to find another “treasure chest” of pure sugar so I figured I would check the pantries first. They weren’t stupid enough to do the same closet twice in a row but I would bet my monies that’s where they were.
Stumbled down the halls when I noticed a door slightly left ajar. Yup. There they were. As I approached I could hear a conversation being had between Tak and Zim. GOOD. I can grab them all at once. I slowly opened the door juuuust enough to squeeze my body through and crept in behind boxes , eyeing the mess of once-again ripped open junk food and wrappers littering the floor. I sat behind a rather large box (big enough to shield me from sight at the very least) and waited for the opportunity to pounce.
Skoodge was sitting on the floor very much invested in the “ploof puffs” he was shoving into his adorable chubby face. Not really paying much mind to the other two. Zim and Tak sat atop two boxes staring each other down. Tak had her back to me and Zim was so fixated on his enemy, that he didn’t notice me peeking out from the box behind her. I could see on Zim’s face that SOMETHING said before my arrival was eating at him. The conversation continued-
“I’m telling you the truth, Zim.”
“There is NO WAY you did it on your own, Tak.”
“You think I’m lying? Or is your pride eating away at you because I’m clearly the superior soldier to-be?”
“There is NO WAY YOU would hurt my pride. BESIDES, how could someone with your intellectual shortcomings accomplish something soldiers are trained YEARS to do?!”
“Okay, fine. This will shut you up, you reject!”
I couldn’t see her face but she stood straight and her body tighten, I could see her fists turning pale by the amount of pressure she was putting on them. The ports on her back slowly opened and her PAK legs menacingly emerged. Awkwardly crawling out and wobbling as the touched the ground and lifted her mid air.
Skoodge panicked and fled at the sight of the thin, metallic limbs- having never seen or been told about these things prior, this must have been quite terrifying. And it’s true. I was shocked myself. The shit was right. Irken soldiers are taught how to use these well into their military training and it takes a tremendous amount of skill and concentration to activate. For a smeet this was basically unheard of. Tak May very well be the most advanced smeet in Irken history.
Zim was.... far from impressed. He puffed his cheeks and pouted quietly as Tak spat insult after insult to him, Landing harsh and pride crushing comments. I almost felt sorry. It wasn’t until one of her legs abandoned its position of stabilizer and shakily made its way toward Zim’s throat that I knew I had to step in NOW.
Not wanting to use my taser on her, I did the next best thing. I took my boot off and smacked it on the PAK leg closest to me, knocking her off balance and bringing her hurdling downwards. The PAK legs quickly retreated back into their holder and the small Irken was left confused and slightly stunned by the secret attack.
Skoodge ran over to me, tears in his eyes, wailing about the scary legs. He clung to my foot tight. Real tight. Kid has a good grip. I (and my newfound leech) walked over to Tak to picked her up. She just stared at the floor, quickly blinking and not saying a word. Man.... I got her good. I put her to my chest and she didn’t budge. It was unnerving to say the least but she was still alive so.... I just gotta gather the last one.
Zim was spaced out. Totally lost in thought. Didn’t even twitch when I approached him. Seeing those legs really internally triggered something. I scoop him up and stare. I might have well had not been there as far as he was concerned. He was gone from this place.
We get back to the smeetery and I drop off Zim and Skoodge (Skoodge waved me good-bye too. He is so cute sometimes) and made my way to the medical ward with Tak. Just to make sure I didn’t mess her up too bad, you know? The staff there assured me she was okay and just stunned but I told them to keep her for testing anyway. Can’t have that on my conscience.
By the time I got back to the smeetery, Zim was gone and Skoodge was alone, doing some light reading in the form of a cooking magazine. Where he got it, I didn’t ask. It was unusual to see these two separated though. “Where is Zim?” I asked confused. “Hmmm?” He hummed with a slight jump. Must’ve startled him. “Zim wanted to go to the tube room. Is Tak okay?”
I couldn’t help but smile. “Yeah. She’s fine. You okay though?”
“Yeah. That was just scary.”
“They really aren’t. Just another tool we have to protect ourselves and aid ‘n battle. One day you will be trained to use yours too.”
His eyes lit up in wonder and confusion “I HAVE THEM TOO?????”
“Yup. But it’s totally normal you can’t use them yet though. The fact that Tak could is real unusual. I know you’ll get there.” I said ruffling his antenna. He let out a laugh and smiled “Thanks”
“Anytime. Imma see what the little shit is up to.”
“HAVE FUN!” He joyfully waved as I walked away. Skoodge is unusual too. Now that I think about it, everyone associated with the little shit is so quirky. This batch of smeets...they really do have bright futures ahead of them.
Walking through the doors to the usually silent unborn sleeping chambers, the room echoed with low, muffled grunts and heavy breathing. I know this voice. I just had to find him.
Tucked off to one of the corners of the massive room, Zim was doubled over panting, clutching at his chest. His PAK opened and his legs partially exposed, spazzing and sparking, filling the air around him with a dangerous electrical charge. Never in all my life have I seen a PAK respond this way. His body seized, confulsing constantly. His eyes welled with tears, sweat dripping down his entire frame. Veins bulged out of his skin.
Here is something ya gotta know about Irken anatomy. PAKs serve as a second brain and is connected to the organic brain through the spine by a series of wires. Some things are only possible BECAUSE of this connection. Like using PAK legs. The host needs to be able to simultaneously create a gateway both consciously and subconsciously to allow data to flow between the two. Using the legs as an extension of their organic bodies. Being able to tell each of the 4 legs to move independently but having enough focus to not completely be distracted by it. Kinda like breathing. Your brain knows to do it automatically. But if you wanted to, you could alter its patterns. Except a loss of control would mean a comrade getting empaled. Concentration and data input is everything. I’m gettin side tracked though, I didn’t even know it was POSSIBLE to see the bridge between the two minds. But here they were. I could see every ridge, every curve of the wiring violently throbbing.
This is bad. THIS IS SO BAD.
I tried to grab him- he needed medical attention ASAP. WHAT ON IRK WAS HAPPENING!? But as I reached for him, the legs became defensive and started stabbing in my direction. The electrical charge strengthened too. Zim coiled into himself more. He wanted to scream. I could see it in his face. But every time he opened that yap of his- there was nothing.
Oh, My tallest. The closer I got to him, the more his PAK simultaneously defended/harmed him. I screamed for help. Someone.... ANYONE, please. Come! I have no idea what’s going on!
“....z-zara....” I heard faintly between gasps and groans. He reached his hand to me. FUCK THIS. I cannot let the suffering go on any longer. I’m sorry, Zim. But I gotta do this.
I grabbed my taser out and gave his PAK a short jolt, praying that it would short circuit and reboot. His legs stabbed into my hand before going limp, just like the rest of him. The bright pink lights emminating from his back faded to a faint, dim color. But it was still lit. Please. PLEASE. Be okay.
There was a moment of silence. Felt like a decade though, wondering if it worked. Or if I just made the worst mistake of my career.
“REACTIVATING”
The PAK light shone bright again and gave the body a single jolt. The legs instantly retracted. He stirred, groaning. He opened his eyes slowly and blinked a few times, not a single word spoken between us. He looked at me, pained and spiritually drained. “Zara....” he finally said.
I grabbed him and gave him a hug. I was so relieved. He was okay. He just accepted my embrace. He didn’t have the strength to fight. Slowly pulling him away, I could finally speak. “Imma take you to the medical station, okay?” He replied with a humm. Response accepted.
The smeetery staff rushed in (it was so hard to believe only a moment had passed In real time) but I took it upon myself to hand deliver him where he needed to be. It was a long, unsettlingly uncomfortable walk. But this.... I wanted to be here. I needed to. Unfortunately, we soon arrived to the medical station and I finally had to hand him off and return to my shift. I didn’t wanna leave him. Not one bit. I can’t even imagine how he was feeling. But I have a job to do. We gave each other a sad look as we parted. There was a slight pain in my chest the whole time.
The rest of the day dragged on what seemed like years but within a few hours, Zim had been released from care and returned to the Smeetery by a member of the medical staff. She just silently walked in, spoke to a smeetery staff member, placed him on the floor and disappeared. I was thrilled (I would never tell him that though). But I can tell he was still deeply upset. I approached him and asked if he was okay. His eyes said more than his words ever could. I picked him up. I honestly don’t have a game plan but... he needs a few minutes to breathe, I think.
I wave to another guard and ask her to take my place. She saw the smeet I held close and said “fine. But you owe me one.” Wouldn’t be the first time Kira helped me out. She was probably the closest thing to a friend I had in this place. I thanked her and took my leave. Zim didn’t really ask any questions. Just kinda went for the ride.
We wound up in a pantry. I sat down on the cold floor and put him next to me. This... was awkward. I couldn’t figure out what to say or do. Or even why I wound up HERE of all places. Why not my office???? Thankfully, he tore me away from my thoughts and broke the ice.
“Why are we here? Don’t you usually want Zim OUT of the pantry?”
“Uhhhhhh.... you looked like you needed a few minutes to breathe.”
He hugged his knees. “Zim is fine.”
There was that silence again. I’m the adult here. I gotta do something....right?
“You know, the thing with Tak has never happened before.”
“Just rub it in...” he mumbled burying his face into his legs.
“But, you were able to pull yours out too. Even just a little. That’s impressive too.”
“I’m not sure if you noticed, but mine tried to kill me.”
“Maybe yours are just-“
“The medical staff-“ he cut me off “told me I might never be able to use them right. That Zim might be “defective”.”
I was agitated to say the least. How can you say something like that to a smeet? A BABY? This little soul who just began living this life he never asked for? My emotions got the best of me. “Listen here, Zim. Maybe you can’t use your legs the way she does. Or the way I do. But I know you will find a way. You have never bowed down when the odds were stack against you before. Why start now?”
He didn’t stir. I passionately rambled on “you are a lot of things. Cunning. Manipulative. Obsessive. Persuasive. Passionate. But you are damn smart. I’m constantly surprised by your ingenuity and craftsmanship. You know how good I am at dismantling your bombs at this point? You challenge those around you to grow and be better. I wish you WOULDN’T challenge me with explosives, mind you, but you aren’t defective. No way, no how. You are different. And no one said different is bad. Just means you leave your mark in ways no one expected before. And maybe that scares some but.... I believe that you can do amazing things. And screw em If they don’t see it.”
He let out a small chuckle. It was refreshing to hear, even if it was a sad, emotionally drained laugh.
“Does that mean you don’t hate me?”
“I didn’t say all that now.”
He smiled with sorrow and hugged himself tighter.
Maybe that was a little too deep. I was actually kinda embarrassed for that. But.... perhaps I could say something else to make him feel better. “You know” I started “when I have a bad day, I like to look at the stars. You can’t see them here but they always put me at ease.”
“Stars?”
“Yeah. They exist outside the planet, in space. Burning, exploding balls of chemicals. Mostly hydrogen and helium. But from Irk’s surface, they are just beautiful bright lights littering the sky. You can’t see them everywhere here ‘cuz of the brightness of the surface’s refelection in our atmosphere. But I came from the sugar mines before I was a guard. It’s a lot less industrial and darker there so it was always so much easier to see.”
“Burning balls? Really?” He scoffed, amused and confused but intrigued.
“I guess tellin’ you about ‘em doesn’t do it justice. Here. Let me show you. Computer.”
My PAK lit up and released a small floating, mechanical ball with a small circular screen used for projections. Zim just stared. “Show us stars.”
As instructed, the screen painted a gorgeous night sky (as “night” as Irken pink skies get anyway) glistening with hundreds of stars. Zim stared, taken aback. There was a slight sparkle in his face. Good. This helped. Thank the Tallest. The projection stayed active for only a moment before I thought it was enough. Without saying anything, the orb returned to where it had come from.
“You okay?” I finally asked, knowing the answer already but hoping for the best.
“.... can we stay here a little bit longer?”
I can tell in his voice, he was embarrassed. Ashamed. Depressed. Confused. Self-loathing. His whole world thrown in a blender. “Sure” I said pulling him closer to my leg. I kept my hand on his back, gently stroking it. Imagine my surprise when he accepted my compassion and snuggled up to me.
I couldn’t tell what he was thinking but all my organic brain kept repeating was “just be there for him.” I dunno what this feeling in my spooch could have been but it felt knotted and twisted at the sight of his misery. I had to look away. What is this smeet? Why does he make me feel this way? Do I have a bug? Is this something else I don’t understand? ...You know what? It’s Best not to think too much about it, I guess. Just take in this silence with the little shit. He will be back to his old self tomorrow I bet.

A comprehensive list of plane tracking websites (1/2)
I am listing below all the publicly available resources to do plane tracking online (including military plane tracking), that have at least some free services available to anyone (for this reason some key player in this industry are not in my list), and that I know about. I came into plane tracking few years ago, and did quite a lot of research about all the available resources. I am quite happy to share the result here. I am keeping it up to date as much as I can, do not hesitate to comment if you know other resources! I'd also like to thank all of those who already pointed to new resources I didn't know about. Thanks all, this list would be much shorter without your help.
Plane tracking websites with global coverage
ADSBexchange - "World's largest source of unfiltered flight data"
adsbexchange.com ADSBexchange is an aggregator of ADS-B feeders, relying on a community of volunteers. It is showing unfiltered data, meaning all aircraft are visible (including private jets and military aircraft). This is a great tool for OSINT, plane tracking enthusiasts and journalists. Feeders have access to all aircraft visible on the network through API, after requesting an API key. Others have access through a map. They have a MLAT solution, which means that airplane which are not broadcasting their position may still be positioned by triangulation if they are in range of enough feeders. NameADSBexchangeTypeAggregator, mapURLhttps://www.adsbexchange.comTwitter@adsbexchangeData sharinghttps://www.adsbexchange.com/how-to-feed/ Adsbhub - "Free ADS-B data sharing and exchange"
adsbhub.org ADSBhub is an aggregator of ADSB data. It relies on a community of feeders. All their data is accessible to feeders in the same SBS format you can get from the receivers. This is more for enthusiasts with a technical background as there is no interface to track a specific aircraft or flight number, but this is a great tool if you want to increase the coverage of your own receiver. Their coverage is sort of global, but with less receivers than ADSBexchange. NameADSBhubTypeAggregatorURLhttps://www.adsbhub.orgTwitter@adsbexhubData sharinghttps://www.adsbhub.org/howtofeed.php Ads-b.nl - "Tracking Military Aircraft"
ads-b.nl ads-b.nl is a site dedicated to tracking military aircraft. It is relying on ADSBexchange data. It is listing all available military aircraft on ADSBexchange at a given time. NameADS-B.nlTypeMilitary aircraftURLhttps://www.ads-b.nlTwitter@adsbnl1 Airnav Radarbox - "Disrupting an Industry. Revolutionizing Air Traffic Surveillance."
radarbox.com Airnav Radarbox is also a commercial website, based in Tampa, Florida, USA, relying on a network of feeders that they deployed, a community of feeders, but also some different sources of data (FAA radars, Satcom ACARS, HFDL...). Airnav was a pioneer in that industry as they started as early as 2001. As usual you can share your data. They are filtering some aircraft for privacy reasons. They are also selling a ADS-B dongle and one to listen to ATC. They have one of the best coverage of the market thanks to the aggregation of data from different technologies. NameAirnav RadarboxTypeCommercial, map, commercial flight trackerURLhttps://www.radarbox.comTwitter@RadarBox24Data sharinghttps://www.radarbox.com/sharing-data AvDelphi - "One place for all your aviation data requirements" AvDelphi is an aviation data provider based in Switzerland. They propose more than tracking, with a lot aviation related data available on their site (ACARS data, NOTAM, aviation news, airframes data...). They also propose some spotting tools so that you can log your observations and store your pictures. A little less well design than the other websites, they still are a great source of information. FlightAware.com FlightAware - "Live Flight Tracking" FlightAware is one of the pioneer in the industry, based in the USA. As a commercial website, they started in 2005, focusing first on North America, and step by step increasing their coverage to the world. They now have one of the best global coverage, thanks to their access to satellite ADS-B technology, that allow them to track cross ocean flights that are not visible to normal ADS-B trackers (to be able to track a plane, the receiver has to be "in view"; as the earth is round, even with receivers on high points and aircraft at cruising levels, it is difficult to track planes beyond 250nm). FlightAware deployed its own network of feeders and they also made it possible for enthusiasts to share the data of their own receivers. FA is also making some Raspberry Pi software available, to make it pretty affordable and easy to build your own receiver and start with plane tracking. One of the great feature is they give you access to MLAT positions, which means you can track some aircraft that do not broadcast their position, as is often the case with military one. At least you can see them on your tracker, even if they may not be visible to the general public. They also provide some hardware, with some great USB dongles, filters and antennas. If you are a feeder, you have a free access to their business account. They also make a lot of data available for free for the general public. They are filtering some aircraft for privacy reasons. Don't expect to find many military aircraft. Some private jets are also filtered. They also provide a lot of services to the aviation industry. flightradar24.com FlightRadar24 is one of the best commercial websites, based in Sweden, relying on a network of feeders that they deployed and also a community of feeders. They started in 2006, just one year after FA. They gain a lot of exposure in 2010 during the explosion of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano that disrupted the flights over Northern Europe. If you share your feeder's data, you have a free access to their business account. Many great features are also available for free. They have one of the best global coverage, you should find what you are looking for with FlightRadar24. As other commercial websites, they are filtering some aircraft for privacy reasons. Don't expect to find many military aircraft; private jets are more covered, but also filtered. I also love their mobile app with an AR feature that let you know which flight is the plane above your head. They also have a great 3D view on their website developed using Cesium and Mapbox. ocs masterpost
for ease of access! in-depth descriptions of all my favorite ocs, all in one post. you can find even more of my ocs (brief descriptions + reference images) over on my art fight page! (you have to be logged in to view!)
DnD Characters:
note: for some of these, i have to omit large portions of info as i am either actively playing them, or saving them for a future campaign, and i dont want anyone im playing with to see and accidentally spoil themselves
Fennryn Autumntide—
They were separated from their parents as a baby, and instead raised by an older dwarven woman named Rhiannon Autumntide (AKA Anna). They lived in the forest on the mountain together. She taught them how to fend for themself, and a basic respect for nature and other living things. Their relationship was very teacher/student, but as the years went by they saw each other as family. Fenn solidified this by taking Anna’s last name when they were of age. Eventually, Anna passed away, and Fenn was left in the woods alone.
Fearful of dying alone without ever having experienced life off of the mountain, Fenn sets out to find an adventure. And they find one, alongside a younger tiefling man named Finn. Finn is an experienced pirate, but he is vulnerable. Finn and Fenn trust each other explicitly, and after some time, they fall in love.
Fenn is tall, muscular, and an older elf. They’re around middle aged.
Alistair—
Alistair is a mystery. They are a bizarre-looking half-elf, with a wicked grin, and glowing cyan eyes that lack pupils. They are seemingly fairly young, despite their hair beginning to grow white at the roots.
Alistair is extremely curious, and values sating that curiosity above most things. They spend much of their time exploring and researching. They also have a complete lack of respect for personal boundaries, and love to study and inspect whoever they can get their hands on. (They’re good with a pair of pliers, if you’re willing to let them pull a tooth. They’d be happy to show you their collection.)
Alistair also thrives on positive attention, especially from people who don’t give it easily. Perhaps that’s why they insist on hanging off of Frey as much as they do. Frey Matthias Wolfe is a rich bastard. He’s a man of study as well, but he’s a real mean bitch. And Alistair loves him.
Alistair’s patron... Is a whole other story. One that will remain secret, for now.
Jesse—
Jesse was spawned from the thought “I should make a mean nerd for everyone to bully!” And the execution, imo, was flawless. A 24 year old human man. Jesse is a bard, and he hates it. He has been traveling on his own for a while, and finished his bard college education a couple years ago. He’s pretty studious, and he’s determined to learn everything related to magic that he can.
Despite being a jackass, and kind of a stick in the mud, he does have some semblance of a sense of humor. He also likes to use his intelligence and skill to feel superior to the people around him as often as possible. He is visibly extremely disturbed by corpses.
Jesse is very vague about his past and his reasons for traveling alone.
Ford—
Ford is my newest character! He is a firbolg cowboy. Extremely tall (approaching 8’), with a powerful build. I can’t say much about him yet! He is seemingly very friendly and happy to lend a helping hand whenever he can. He has a sister, named Clementine, who owns a small grocery store.
Cressida:
(note: cressida city + the world its a part of belongs to my boyfriend @ghost-gore ! all the characters that mine know belong to him as well. warning for gore on his blog.)
Ellis—
Ellis is a demon who works in limbo under a man named Crow. Ellis is technically speaking, pretty old, but he looks just as much the young man he was when he died. He keeps his long hair back in a ponytail, and can’t seem to ever wear his suit properly.
Ellis’ powers allow him to see and alter people’s memories. Limbo, as it works out, is a mess of memories. He is always very busy keeping things in order. He’s no stranger to making mistakes, but he has a knack for fixing them to make up for it. When he has a moment to himself, he likes to slip into the dreams of humans. He thinks they’re interesting! (But he keeps accidentally bringing them nightmares...oops. Don’t worry, he can fix it!)
Ellis is in love with his boss, and has been for over a century. He has a hard time keeping it subtle, but fortunately(??) Crow is oblivious. But a century is a long time... And things have gotten intimate between them more than once.
He is also good friends with a much older demon, named Cordia. They like to meet up for drinks, and bond over funny cat pictures.
Rosier—
Rosier is an old, powerful demon. He was once a high-ranking officer in “Hell”’s military. He was charming, and an excellent strategist. (Having a powerful beast form also helps.)
However, something triggered him severely. In a frenzied panic, he shifted into his beast form and flew off.
As a beast, he has large red eyes, long antennae, sharp claws, and huge black wings. Years passed as he isolated himself, and legends spread of the Mothman. Rosier lost himself more and more, until he lost the ability to speak. He stopped seeing any people as the apocalypse happened all around him.
Later, living in the ruins outside of Cressida, he is found by a young hero named Ghost. Ghost is initially intimidated by Rosier, and treats him as an enemy. They fight a few times, before Ghost realizes that Rosier isn’t necessarily a foe— he’s just defending himself. Ghost then begins to treat Rosier almost as a pet.
After some time rehabilitating Rosier, Ghost brings him back to Orion HQ, where they work for Cordia. Cordia is one of very few demons old enough to recognize Rosier.
Eventually, Rosier is able to read, speak, and transform back into a more human shape. He still retains a few of his moth form’s traits, including fully red eyes, fur here and there, and limbs that fade to near-black at the tips.
Cyrus Darcy—
Cyrus is a rich bitch whore. He cares about three things ONLY: wine, sex, and himself. Money is power and he has more than enough of it. His parents passed away when he was a teenager, and they left him a fortune.
Cyrus always gets what he wants. If money can’t get it for him, he has another trick up his sleeve that can. Cyrus is a celestial, meaning a human born with supernatural powers. Cyrus has the power of suggestion, meaning that he can give anyone a short command that they are compelled to follow.
Cyrus has all the makings of a villain, but in actuality he is very neutral. He just wants to have a good time unbothered. He uses his powers mostly to get randos to leave him alone. (Randos like Arley and Kier, who are sent by Cordia to recruit Cyrus for Orion. It takes a while.)
Evelyn—
Evelyn (AKA Evie) was born in the Victorian Era, to a rich father. With money and good looks, she was often pursued by men wishing to court and marry her. She was disinterested in all of them. She preferred to spend her time reading and studying. Evelyn loved to learn, but she also loved a good romance or fantasy to sweep her off her feet.
Enter Cordia, who spent her Victorian days posing as a man. They had a passionate love affair, until Cordia made a sudden exit from Evelyn’s life.
Many years later, Evelyn awakens in the afterlife as an angel. When she and Cordia meet again, it is as equals and business partners.
She is now working as a librarian/an archivist. She also boxes, because she likes to feel strong.
Marcy—
Marcy is a thotty rave twink. They love music, they love neons, and they love to flirt. Marcy is very enthusiastic, and they are a little bit in love with basically everyone. They flirt constantly, and are not shy with physical affection. They like to do drugs and make out and they’re happy to do that with pretty much anyone who’s willing.
Marcy is also a celestial. Their powers allow them to control their personal gravity. They can jump really high, and come down hard, among other things! They mostly use it to help themself go fast. They used to be in roller derby! And they still love to skate.
(ps they have thighs for days and an ass that wont quit. thank u)
Other:
Bonnie Briary—
My newest oc! She belongs to a world where monsters are real, but hidden. Monsters aren’t super common, and they generally avoid integration with human society. (The setting is also a blend of modern + victorian fantasy. Think Lemony Snicket ambiguity.)
Bonnie is shy, sweet, and curious. She likes to study plants in particular. Her style of choice is cottagecore/fairycore blend. She has a garden that she loves very much.
Faust (belongs to tovomiel on ig), is a trash punk gargoyle monster, who for some reason has decided he likes Bonnie. He teases her relentlessly and loooooves to make her flustered. The catch is, he’s too shy to make a move beyond teasing and the occasional kiss. Bonnie, sweet as she is, is dying for him to stop leaving her hanging. Shenanigans ensue.

If you are still doing these prompts, can I get um… 15. Light, with Anglar Emperor? (You could include Zazan too if you desire) If it's too hard, don't worry, I just really want more content of the fishy squad! .v.
Oh man, this was really fun. I haven’t played SFC in a hot minute so sorry if my interpretations seem a little off.
—
9 ALW; ANGLAR THRONE ROOM, VENOM
For as long as he could remember, life had been a dark flow full of strange twisted concepts. He existed only in the labyrinth of his own mind for a time that felt like an eternity. It was not a bad existence, but it did not satisfy. Always, he felt like he was on the cusp of breaking something– an unseen wall that trapped him. He learned to scream in his mind, pounding his fins against the walls that had encased him for all of his meager life. In the years before, he remembered voices. They were muted, water-logged. Distant… but comforting. And then the voices had disappeared. And that had left him to wander the recesses of his own mind. It was a meaningless confinement…
And then, he opened his eyes. And he saw the light.
Years later, the Anglar Emperor was not sure how it had happened. One day, he felt the wall break. He felt his eyelids open. And he saw he was within a strange place. It was dark beyond the glow of the water in his tube. There were flickering, damaged lights beyond the glass he rested his fins upon. He tried to reach beyond the tubes… and found soon enough that the glass was another burden. But he was smarter now. He could see now.
A few punches and the glass shattered, causing him to spill out of the test tube. He blinked, sputtering. And then he turned his pupilless eyes to the other tubes around him. They were there by the hundreds. Each one occupied with a poor fool not unlike himself. He crawled towards the closest one, pulling his weak and unaccustomed body up to look at it.
The creature slept just like him– stout and angular at the head. Its eyes were closed. Its large mouth was bent in a permanent frown. It was naked, its scaled body dark blue and turquoise. Its body was covered in fins.
The Anglar Emperor reached back with a fist once more. And he punched the glass. It did not break at first. He kept punching until it did, his fin bloodied by the time he was done. The other came floundering out, its eyes snapping open with surprise. The Emperor looked down at him and then croaked out words in a language he was not sure how he knew.
“Come. The others.”
Each tube was shattered and from it, a loyal citizen was born into the cruel world. And though they could each survive the land, they quickly found the ocean they were seemingly meant to thrive in– an ocean… he almost seemed to remember from a life before the dark. And they, the ones who had awoken, began their empire. His empire. Because he was the one who had opened his eyes first. He was the one who had seen the light.
Years later, however, they would find that the surface was taken over once more by the remnants of their creator– that faceless entity the Emperor had heard when he still wandered the dark abyss of his own consciousness. The Emperor thought for a moment to ally with these remnants… and then he chose not to. To do so would be to forsake his own sovereignty, and who wanted that? He was content with his oceanic kingdom and the way it was.
But things changed– as they always do. And the day it all changed had begun quite ordinarily.
The Emperor sat upon his throne. His body had changed with the years. The ones he had freed had declared him a sovereign and so he was given the best food. His stomach had turned plump, his fins comparatively becoming quite short. He lounged, slumped over with a cup of wine in hand.
It was a quiet day on Venom. Data charts from his experts showed that they had nearly conquered all of Venom’s oceans. Next would be the rivers. And then perhaps they would consider moving onto the land. But there were troublesome locals there. The lizards would likely not react kindly to them encroaching upon their territory. Not to mention the other abominations that dwelled in the dark, toxic jungles…
The doors flung open with a loud wham and he nearly spilled his wine. Looking up at who had intruded upon his throne room, the Emperor was surprised to see Zazan, one of his decorated generals.
“My liege,” Zazan said breathlessly. “We’ve just received a report. The landwalkers have been defeated. More forces came from the skies. They have wiped out the ones that resemble our creator.”
The Emperor’s scaley brow furrowed. What could this mean?
“Where did these forces come from?” the Emperor asked.
“The heavens,” Zazan shook his head. “We don’t know. They are bearing a strange symbol. A symbol that our scouts have seen in the ruins during their trips to the land.”
Zazan pulled forth a small projector from his belt, holding it upright. It displayed a hologram– a symbol that looked like a sphere with a ring and two leafy branches around it, decorated with crimson stars in its middle.
“We believe these creatures have invaded before. They may do a full sweep of the planet…” Zazan said. “I fear our military may not be ready yet to combat them.”
Troubling news indeed. The Emperor tugged at his blubbery lower lip with thought. Their creator had imparted certain knowledge to his subjects before his disappearance. Schematics on how to build structures and ships. How to speak, read, and write. How to form societies… how to fight. And most importantly? How to plan.
There were things the Emperor just knew how to do sometimes… and he questioned where it came from. But he knew that the answer to those questions…. Was lost somewhere in the past.
“We have cloaking devices set up throughout our kingdom. We must ensure that they are up at all times. They have not failed us yet. Keep all scouting missions to a minimum. We will seal the kingdom so that none may leave and give away our location to these outsiders. I would hate it if we were discovered before it’s too late,” the Anglar Emperor said to Zazan.
“Will… will this delay anything?” Zazan asked.
“No. In a few years, once we have finished testing the prototypes, we will leave this planet just as we have planned,” the Emperor shook his massive head. He cracked a sharp, toothy smile, the glowing orb attached to his antenna turning a malicious sickly green. “Can you feel it, Zazan? The protocol left in our very flesh and blood?”
Zazan paused but nodded. “Yes, my lord. I can feel it. The need to conquer. The need to carry out…”
“Our creator is dead and gone,” the Anglar Emperor said haughtily, his fanged smile widening. “Let the blood be spilled by those insignificant bugs be for the glory of our work. The glory of the Anglar Empire.”
“Under your command, we will rise above and lay claim to the Lylat System,” Zazan said with a passionate salute. “For we are the ones who saw the light. And you were the one who let us see.”
