ROFLMAO
This:
Tumblr media
Oh, pumpkin, the whole of Romania is roaring with anticipation ....ahem, not 🤣🤣🤣.
You obviously don't have the slightest clue of what you are talking about. One more time: he'll never have the money, the chutzpah and the powah required to even remotely interest a meretricious, supremely mercantile panther as Ghenea. Ever.
Remember South Park's Romanian Contorting Quintuplets (🤣🤣🤣🤣)? I do, heh: Mordor fanfic-wise, it is a truth universally acknowledged that Romania sucks. Of course.
Stop talking nonsense. I am Romanian and yeah, I do know better.
youtube
Later edit:
Ghenea was spotted in Milan (where she lives, d'oh!) two days ago, at the Teatro alla Scala no less, charming crowds around with her daring dress while attending a gala for the Milan Fashion Week.
I know it's a very cruel thing to say, but I really doubt she knows he exists:

Frankly, I don't know about Roosevelt, but Jesus did weep.

Winter Trip: Watching some ballets
So elated to say that I'm going on a Europe trip this Christmas/New Year's. My family and I are going to Rome - Milan - Paris - Brussels - Ghent!
I made it a point to get tickets to Paris Opera Ballet's Paquita and Teatro alla Scala's The Nutcracker. This has been a dream of mine ever since I was a kid so watching these companies will be an absolute fever dream. I'll likely provide some commentary afterwards too.
If you have any recommendations on what to do in these countries, do let me know. OR if you're watching the same days I am (12/29 at La Scala and 1/2 at POB), maybe we can meet!
I'm also open to taking recommendations on what classes to take. I had the privilege of taking a class with Alexandra Somova last year from the recommendation of a Tiktok mutual.
Anyway, just some random musings.

On this day, back in 1926, Turandot was premiered in Milan at Teatro alla Scala, the posthumous work of Giacomo Puccini, which was finished by composer Franco Alfano.
The story says that on the premiere, after the Liù's death and cortege, the conductor Arturo Toscanini turned to audience saying "Here the opera ends, left incomplete by the death of the late Puccini." And the curtain was lowered. *The following performances included the Alfano's end.
Around January of 1972, the gossip of Joan recording the title role of Turandot spread on the opera world, and on August it proved true, even with Bonynge disapproval, Joan recorded it. Here, an animation of the famous "In questa Reggia" vocal score.

February 8. 1921 the portuguese Baritone Francisco d’Andrade died in Berlin.
Here a picture of him as Rigoletto and his portrait.
His brother was the famous tenor Antonio d'Andrade. His full name was Francisco Augusto de Andrade E Silva. In 1881 he studied singing under Manuel Carreira, Luiz da Costa and José Romano in Lisbon, but in  1886 he went to Milan, where he was a pupil of pedagogues Miraglia and Ronconi. In 1882 he made his debut in Sanremo as Amonasro in Verdi’s ‘’Aida’’. During the following years he appeared with success first in Italy, then in Spain and Portugal, performing not only at the Teatro alla Scala, but also at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome. In 1886 he made guest appearance at Covent Garden, London as Renato in Verdi’s ‘’Ballo in maschera’’, in which he had big success till 1890, among other things as Germont ‘’Traviata’’, Enrico in ‘’Lucia di Lammermoor’’ and as Count di Luna in ‘’Trovatore’’. In 1887 he sang in Moscow as Telramund in ‘’Lohengrin’’. In 1889 he went with an opera troupe of the impresario Gardini, the husband of the soprano Etelka Gerster, to Berlin. He was so successful there as Figaro in ‘’Barbiere di Siviglia’’, Rigoletto and as Don Giovanni that he took later here his residence. From 1906 to 1916 he was often to be heard at the Berlin Court Opera. From 1891 to 1910 he was nearly every year appeared at the Opera House of Frankfurt a. M., in 1894, 1896, 1901 and 1909 at the Municipal Theatre of Zurich. He performed also in Germany, Holland, Austria, Russia, England and Scandinavia mainly as a Don Giovanni. In this part he counted as unequalled; his amusing representation of the Don Giovanni was painted by Max Slevogt. Also in Salzburg (1901) he sang the role of Don Giovanni together with Lilli Lehmann, Johanna Gadski and Geraldine Farrar. Up to 1919 he appeared on the stage, last only as Don Giovanni. His other star role was Figaro in Rossini’s ‘’Barbiere di Siviglia’’. He controlled a stage repertoire of 56 roles into six languages, under it numerous parts from the area of the French opera (Nevers in ‘’Les Huguénots’’, Escamillo in ‘’Carmen’’, Hoël in ‘’Dinorah’’ of  Meyerbeer, Zurga in ‘’Pêcheurs de perles’’ of Bizet, Nelusco in ‘’L'Africaine’’, Valentin in ‘’'Faust’’ of Gounod, Scindia in ‘’Le Roi de Lahore’’ of Massenet). When Portugal entered into the First World War, he had to leave in 1916 Germany. Then he lived in Portugal, where in 1918 for the last time he appeared on the stage as Figaro in ‘’Barbiere di Siviglia’’. However, in 1919 he came back again to Berlin, but two years later died suddenly.

Day 24 - Milan (26.01.2023)
I started my day at the „Piazza del Duomo“. I had already bought my ticket for the Duomo, so I could take the stairs directly and climb to the roof. Once at the top, it was very special and impressive. There are so many details and statues on every single column. You also had a beautiful view over the „Piazza del Duomo“ and the city in general. Afterwards, I also went into the cathedral. It was very big inside and there were so many beautiful and colourful windows. I could also go under the church to visit the archeological area.
After visiting the „Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II“ I did a little shopping on the „Corso Vittorio Emanuele II“. Since it was my last day, I thought it would be okay to do a little shopping and take an extra bag for the way back home tomorrow.
After a pizza for lunch, I visited two churches. The first one was the „Chiesa di San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore“. This is a small, very beautiful church. What was special about it was that it had two halves, one for the people and the other for the nuns. There were also many paintings on the walls, which made it very special for me. The other church was the „Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie“ with the famous painting „The Last Supper“. Unfortunately the tickets were sold out until January 31, so I couldn’t go in.
In the afternoon I also visited the „Castello Sforzesco“ and had an ice cream at „Gelateria La Romana“ - my last Italian ice cream for a while, I guess. Before returning to the hostel, I went to see the „Teatro alla Scala“ too.
I had a beautiful last day of my Interrail trip!

Tumblr media
Exterior of Teatro Alla Scala.
La Scala (officially Teatro alla Scala lit. 'Theatre at the Scala') is a historic opera house in Milan, Italy. The theatre was inaugurated on 3 August 1778 and was originally known as il Nuovo Regio Ducale Teatro alla Scala (lit. 'the New Royal Ducal Theatre at the Scala', which was the former location of a church). The premiere performance was Antonio Salieri's Europa riconosciuta.
Most of Italy's greatest operatic artists, and many of the finest singers from around the world, have appeared at La Scala. The theatre is regarded as one of the leading opera and ballet theatres globally. It is home to the La Scala Theatre Chorus, La Scala Theatre Ballet, La Scala Theatre Orchestra, and the Filarmonica della Scala orchestra. The theatre also has an associate school, known as the La Scala Theatre Academy (Italian: Accademia Teatro alla Scala), which offers professional training in music, dance, stagecraft, and stage management.

Pianist Maurizio Pollini dies aged 82
The pianist had canceled a series of concerts in recent years due to health problems
Italian pianist Maurizio Pollini, considered a Chopin and Beethoven virtuoso, died this Saturday at the age of 82, announced the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
The pianist had canceled a series of concerts in recent years due to health problems.
For the La Scala opera house, Maurizio Pollini was "one of the great pianists of our time and a fundamental point of reference in the artistic life of the theater for more than fifty years".
Between 1958 and his last recital, in February 2023, Pollini played 168 times at that theater, in addition to participating in a large number of conferences and workshops with students.
"Pollini was an interpreter capable of revolutionizing the perception of composers such as Chopin, Debussy and Beethoven himself, as well as bringing the avant-garde, especially Schönberg, and contemporary music to the fore," reported AFP, citing a statement from La Scala .
In Portugal, Maurizio Pollini performed at the Grand Auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, at least on three occasions: 2002, playing Chopin and Debussy, in 2007, as part of the "Piano Cycle", putting frequent composers in his career in dialogue such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, Robert Schumann and Ludwig van Beethoven, and in 2009.
Born in Milan on January 5, 1942, into a family of artists, Maurizio Pollini made a “sensational” entry into the discreet world of classical music in March 1960, the opera house in Milan added.
