Master Splinter feels more like a father, not just their caretaker, and the tragedy of Superfly just wanting to make a safe home for his family like Master Splinter did but because his first real memory was watching his father be murdered so he only knows pain and violence and uses that as his motivation- just- chef's kiss.

Also the lesson that doing the right thing is more complicated than you think because doing it for the right reasons is just as important. Being a hero isn't about being accepted, it's about helping people even when you may never be accepted.
