Listen, despite my severe aversion to romance , I tried, I tried reading it, and plus point for author, it wasn't hard cause there's barely any mention in first two books. Learning that two characters with 10 year age gap gonna marry, especially when I like them better as friends, especially when I was literally praying author won't go in that direction. Can't read it man!

I love hadrian and Arista, doesn't mean I want to read them as couples, fuck no please. That's what I hate about romance. I have no doubt author gonna do good job with them, cause whole writing is good, just not for me. I don't like 10 year age gaps, max I can go is 5 years that too in dire circumstances, 3 is preferable, 2 is better. But not 10 years fuck no.

It all happened so fast that Danny doesn't really remember dying at all. It was like, one moment he was alive, the next he's dead. He remembers hitting the button, and the lights coming on, and then a great big flash.

Then he was outside of the portal.

He thinks he may have been screaming, but that's not true at all. The only sound he made was a split-second, startled gasp as the portal turned on, that was cut-off before he could finish the noise. The only ones who were screaming were Sam and Tucker; Danny was dead before he could feel anything.

The most vivid thing to him was the terror before the light. The blood rushing moment of mind-numbing fear and cold revelation that he was going to die, and there was nothing he could do about it. A weird sort of resignation, desperation, horror, and static calm that hit him all at once.

He was extremely disoriented when he woke up. Like waking up from a long nap and struggling to comprehend what the day or time was, but knowing instinctively that time has passed. He didn't stay in his ghost form for that long either, further cementing his confusion.

From the moment he hit the button to the few minutes after he woke up is an unsolved jigsaw puzzle to him.

It took him about a day and a half to fully remember what happened beyond 'went into the portal, then suddenly i was out of it and everyone was freaking out', and then a week to process.

Sam and Tucker remember his accident better than he does. They say he was in a daze after he woke up, before he recognized where he was. And he kinda just... squinted at them like he didn't know who they were, and said something in a language they couldn't understand. He was terrifyingly calm and passive, and still smoking.

(They later find out its ghostspeak. He was asking them where he was.)

It was only the moment he realized where he was that he transformed back into human. That's the moment where Danny's memory officially cuts back in for him. His first time as a ghost, and he doesn't really remember it that well.

the main difference between WOT and ROP fandoms is that if you tell WOT fans you're a show-only and don't know anything about the source material, they will go to extreme lengths to protect you from even the most inconsequential of spoilers such as a joke mat told on page 157 of book 1 which will never be relevant to the show in any capacity, whereas if you tell ROP fans you're a show-only and don't know anything about the source material, they will take the opportunity to give you a full-spoiler education on the history of middle earth whether you asked for it or not.

“Ya do know there's a dead Exorcist outside yer door, right? 'nd I think he's forming a ghost.”

I gaped. The mental image of an Exorcist becoming a ghost was hilarious, enough so that I was tempted to throw on my cloak and brave the morning light to see it. “You are not pulling my leg, are you? What kind of Exorcist ends up as a ghost?”

Ghosts were formed from the dregs of a soul, the determination to stay alive. I could have sworn all exorcists were taught ways of avoiding becoming ghosts, right along with their killing-vampire classes, but I guess this one missed the memo. 

“'Swear on my bruised ‘ittle heart, I ain't! Come take yer 'brolly and see,” she exclaimed. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Reluctantly, I threw on my cloak and pulled out a parasol. With Hash hopping up and down in excitement by my side, I stepped out.

The morning sun burned and stung, even with the layers of clothing I wore. But it was worth it, to see the ectoplasm slowly coagulating into the form of a young man. “Did he get run over by a car? He's completely pulverised,” I noted.

Hash shrugged. “Dunno, but he's a wreck. 'Ink we oughta call someone?”

I considered the corpse. “Let's pull him into the shop, first. We can store him in the broom closet,” I said. The idea of one of my regulars finding two inhumans staring at a dead exorcist was not a pleasant one. I could already smell the smoke from the torches and taste the garlic oil on the stakes. Beside me, I knew Hash was thinking of it too.

“Wouldn't it be worse if we got caught with a corpse in yer shop? Maybe we oughta just call ‘em coppers, and be done with it,” she said dubiously.

“Yeah, but we should help him… Right?” I knew what the exorcists would do if they found one of their kind forming a ghost. It would be a quick bullet to the head for that newborn wraith. “It would be wrong to leave him out there for them to kill,” I said, thinking furiously. “But…”

Hash was one step ahead of me. “What if we bring the ghostie in and then call ‘em? We can pretend he didn't form anything, ya know?”

“I mean, it works, but they can sense the presence of twice-dead. They will know something is nearby, and they can probably put two and two together,” I said, and gave the corpse an experimental prod with the toe of my shoe. Ectoplasm and blood, along with something worse, oozed out.

Hash scrunched her face up. “Ya know, I think I know how to solve that,” she said. “Lemme call someone. You better drag ‘im in.”

Okay so I'm reading a priest novel that hasn't been fully translated yet and. Let me paint a picture for you.

It opens on a desert (getting Sha Hai dmbj vibes anyone). The narrator is a professor who's barely ever travelled far, now looking for a lost city.

There's a 30 ish year old guy on his archaeology team named Li San'er. Who has a tomb raiding uncle. Li San'er went to college and got a degree and is trying to change his family. (Its not just me. This gives major Wu Xie vibes right? Or at the minimum, is a fun little reference to the popular timb raiding genre of cnovels and possibly referencing a few tomb raiding stories generally)

This novel has to do with a gangster reincarnating, based on the summary intro, so like. I did not expect such a dmbj sha hai type vibe in the first chapter.

so, actually... that doc is beautiful bones, which i just posted! to my credit, it WAS a wip when i was doing the tag game...

and, perhaps as a more qualifying factor, i wrote that fic 3 times and saved my failed attempts! it's unlikely that i'll do anything with this one, so y'all can have it.

IN THE WILD ALL LESSONS LAST / BEAUTIFUL BONES: SCRAPPED SCENE

Unscathed by his battle with Sapnap, Techno emerged from the forest, his breath rising heavily into the winter air.  “Any luck?”

“No.”  Philza’s heart has been beating hard in his chest for hours.  He rushed towards his friend, eagerly pressing their foreheads together in greeting.  “But I have a lead.  I found footprints heading into a ravine, but none leaving, so I stationed a crow at every exit.  I’ll know the moment he steps foot in the sun.  I swear, this kid–”  Phil let himself lean into Techno, wings folded close at his back.  “Is he trying to kill himself?!”

Techno raised his hands to Phil’s shoulders, holding him in place and keeping their foreheads close.  He had to lean over to meet Phil’s height.  “Is he wearin’ gloves?”

“He is, yes.  Just his work gloves, but it’s something, at least.”

“Want me to try searchin’ the ravine?”

“I tried, mate.  I tried.  I’d rather have you on the ground, in case I missed something and he’s already gone.  Can’t have both of us making the same mistake.”

The forest around them was deep and thick, the branches bowing from the snow that piled on them.  The effects of the recent storm were clear.  In a sense, Phil was grateful for it; having footprints to follow made this chase much easier, but he also knew that Dream was clever and might’ve found a route that Phil didn’t notice yet.  

Techno nodded, his breath still heavy.  It’s unlike him to be this winded after a fight; he was panicking.

“It’s okay, Techno.  We’re gonna find him.  Relax.”  Phil brought a hand to the length of Techno’s snout and rubbed along its length, threading through his fur.  He’s had long, winter-ready fur for years now.  

“If we don’t find ‘im by sundown, we check the prison.”

Phil’s heart dropped, but he saw the logic. “Not a bad plan.  God, I hope a recapture won’t be that quick, but we should be ready for it.  We might not have time, they might try to kill him–”

“No.  I think he might wanna go back himself.”

Phil’s hands froze still in Techno’s fur.

“It’s familiar,” Techno continued, “Warm.  Maybe safe, if it’s not guarded right now.  I dunno how long Sam would stick around.  Would be kinda dumb if he was there, but I guess I wouldn’t put it past the guy.  Dream might decide it’s worth the risk.”

truth be told I think one strong reason I will never truly become utterly obsessed with the prequel era and its media is the simple fact that the discourse around it bored me. lots of pretentious sounding people arguing over fictional characters that are all doomed by the narrative of the tragedy they're trapped in, does not sound like a fun time to me. the amount of arrogance steeped in so many takes I've seen is just annoying and frustrating. you must be so fun at dinner parties,

so someone recommended Fourth Wing (by Rebecca Yarros) to me, and I got it from the library. I'm most of the way through it at this point and while the actual political plot is pretty interesting, overall it's just....not great? I recently read Rosaria Munda's Aurelian Cycle, which I also had some issues with, but Fourth Wing really feels like the inferior book here. Also while generally speaking I'm all for two cakes, this is very much a second cake and I think the first cake was better. Maybe I'll go on a journey through history of books whose plot is "kingdom has wars including domestic unrest, they fight with a dragon cavalry, and the two main characters who have a slow burn romance come from backgrounds on opposite sides of the domestic unrest, and also the higher ups are hiding things from them, and eventually the secrets of the country (and the dragons) will be revealed."

tbh I've never read Pern but if it's also this plot, maybe it's the original cake...

rereading the hunger games books has been fun, bc i read those books waaaayyy too young and didn't absorb barely anything from them; it feels like i'm reading them for the first time. but also, they're kind of making me hate the movies. i can't picture katniss as jennifer lawrence or it takes me out of it. the book just keeps reemphasizing that they're kids!! just kids!! the way they cast the main characters makes them feel older than they're supposed to be

You mentioned Chrissy a few times in your RE8 AU and you added the hellcheer tag to it. How does she fit in it?

Oh easy anon! Chrissy is basically this world's version of Donna Beneviento. Which means she has the SCARIEST FUCKING HOUSE IN THIS AU (I love Lady D and Lord Billy but come on, Donna's house is from fucking silent hill)

I won't spoil what experiences Steve and Robin have at Chrissy's house but they do end up having to lay down and take a nap.

I said it before lmao but all the Lords are all the canon victims of Vecna, i.e Billy, Chrissy, Fred and Patrick. Hope this helps!

Oh and a little thing, Chrissy creates all of Billy's clothes after Susan was killed

in the vein of prev rb, it's been like a month or more that I've been trying to read the other companion book to dndhat (The Road to Neverwinter (the one that stars Edgin and the rest of the gang)) and it's. a struggle.

it feels like the difference between The Druid's Call and The Road to Neverwinter is like the distance between the Mariana Trench and the peak of Everest

it's such a shame, and it's honestly pains me to just drop it, cause it's the last of the few works I haven't read/seen around my favourite movie. but goddamn if it doesn't make reading feel like a chore. and it really shouldn't be one

DNN week started today, and while it may not be in the collection (I kept waiting for it to be approved or something, because it was hidden, but it didn’t happen so I took out of the collection.) I am following the prompts! Look for DNN week 2023 on Ao3 and you should find it.

Anyways, Day 1 was Fluff! I love fluff, but I cannot write just fluff. But here is my attempt!

I already have day 2 and 3 written, 4 is started, 5 and 6 have a solid plot line, and 7 has absolutely nothing.

I guess we will see how this goes!
