Pastime:
Embla has made a brief appearance in the one text post for a story I dropped almost entirely like a year ago despite having a desire to continue it and it did not show what I feel is the full spectrum of this character.
So we’re gonna learn about Embla’s passtimes and shed light on this extremely enigmatic figure.
1.  Home Decorating
Embla has an aesthetic to maintain. Going for the angry, scary swamp witch angle without a swamp in which to be a swamp witch in requires a certain amount of creativity on Embla’s part. There’s no way that people will tell tales of her abducting and eating children years down the line if she lives in a simple homestead with her girls. No way.
So Embla puts a few homey touches on her cave abode that screams to the casual passerby “This is hell’s territory and I am beholden to no gods“
First is viscera. This viscera left strewn about the entrance of the cave not only shows that she has mercilessly destroyed her enemies like she will also destroy you but it has befriended the local corvids which just increases that foreboding vibe.
If the massacred corpses of those who have attempted to assault the cave was not indication enough, she has made several lovely art installments using the skulls of dolyaks, centaur and bears. She a regular DIY goddess.
2. Babysitting
Extreme babysitting talent. Really. She’s kept Emily for like a year.
The bottom line is that one doesn’t build a legend by building the perfect hermit cave. There must be some kind of interaction with people who survive the encounter. The occasional Svanir that she lets go for this purpose just is not enough.
So sometimes she will pick up idiots that get lost in the snowdrifts and host them at their house for a little while. She’ll strike fear into their weak little hearts and then let them go thinking they just survived some horrifying encounter with a cannibal but of course they were perfectly safe the entire time. Well fed. All that. Her guests could never complain of not receiving the very best of Norn hospitality.
3. Creative Direction
Embla is the motherfuckin Spielberg of her time. She has assembled Hollywood’s perfect three woman action movie ensemble cast.
Miep, the obligatory blonde, is a soothsayer hidden in a remote, scary cave. Embla herself, the ginger, a scary hedgewitch who speaks to the dead. Shaelia, the brunette, a fabulous bard who travels the world to tell tales of their exploits and lead random Priory Archivists into Embla’s clutches.
Shaelia may be the bard but Embla is perhaps the greatest storyteller of the bunch, given that her entire self is deliberately rendered in such a way because she thinks it is “cool”  and to hide her extreme fear of strangers and not because she is actually scary or mean in any way.

Naniya
thefreelanceangel asked ✿ : A friend; ≈ : A passing acquaintance; ❤: A love interest; ஐ: A sexual partner; ♠ : An enemy
But Pepper she’s dead!!!!
But she deserved so much better so I’m choosing not to acknowledge that and filling up her tag with things that will make ppl regret her death as much as I do.
Tumblr media
✿ : A friend
Naniya was a friend to most people she met but the most notable was probably Skoryy.
Skoryy and Caoilhain rescued Naniya from Len during a short little DMed plotline I’d done for @phonographzerohash to give her character the desired disfigurement via Courtier. Naniya and her lover Be’lial were created as NPCs for Oriaen to meet along the way and meat shields should the really hodge podged and kind of shittily balanced DnD mechanics I was using the run that dungeon actually conspire to kill Oriaen, they’d take the fall and die instead. lol While I hadn’t initially intended to play Naniya as much of a character, she grew on me with her optimism and, honestly, the tension between her and Oriaen that was caused by her lover’s death. Skoryy was also a large part in my decision to keep Nani as a character because I suppose in Nani I was able to give Skoryy like one depressed trauma victim who actually recovered with his support and encouragement.
RP with Nani and Skoryy was just so incredibly wholesome and while Naniya accepted and grew from Skoryy’s support and kindness it never felt like she was being like...put into a position of lesser power because of it. Skoryy and Naniya’s interactions were invariably uplifting. Even when she was teaching saplings and acting as a wise mentor, Skoryy was there supporting her the entire way without subverting the position she was in as a teacher. It was pretty much the ideal set up between a mentor and a sapling in that it straddled the line of friendship and parentage without overtly being either one. They both grew and learned from one another. Both were allowed to be vulnerable in one another’s presence without ruining the relationship dynamic.
So very often when doing dynamics like that ppl feel like the mentor figure, with their position of authority, has to be like, always strong and never wrong and shit and like nah man. The fun thing about teaching adults is that you can have an actual relationship with and learn from your students as much as they learn from you.
≈ : A passing acquaintance
Nani knew Caoilhain, as well as a majority of the Inflorescence members at least in passing. She met Elidryn once. She also helped the Sandford Cabal very briefly before becoming their test subject during the Maguuma campaign.
the general consensus, ofc, is that ppl generally like Nani. She’s fine and sweet and lives up to the flower she represented (The Daisy or the Sunflower depending on the day and my mood)
❤: A love interest, ஐ: A sexual partner
Naniya’s overarching, defining love interest was, ofc, Be’lial. The man who was trapped in Len’s Maze with her. He died upon arrival, but her relationship with him throughout her formative years informed much of her behavior, personality and tenacity to come.
Nani never forgot Be’lial but she did pursue a few other romantic interests casually throughout play. Off the top of my head I can remember Near Venn (emphasis on casual) and Largo, an old friend of Be’lial’s who had become a drunk in the wake of his death. He lived with Nani for a time as she tried to heal him. Though nothing ever happened in that respect because, well, it would be a betrayal of Be’lial almost,
Naniya had a brief flirtatious tryst with a norn named Miep in the Vigil as well as a date or two with Owaine of the Sandford Cabal before she succumbed to Mordremoth during their experiment. She’s also referenced having lovers in several of her fellow Pale Reavers and was known to openly flirt with Alisette of Cathal.
Naniya spent her life being rather flighty and non-commital when it came to romantic entanglement, so Be’lial being the one and only long term commitment she’d ever had is not out of the ordinary. However it doesn’t negate, in her opinion, her feelings for her more fleeting trysts.
♠ : An enemy
Naniya never really had any specific enemy. She spent most of her life fighting systematic threats (Dragons, Scarlett’s armies, the Court). The closest she ever got was probably Len, who was something of a protege of hers.
To test the shaper concepts that naniya had taught her, Len used her mesmery to form a living maze which she then threw Naniya and Be’lial into, and gradually more saplings and personal enemies thereafter. This is probably the most personal attack Naniya has ever been hit by, but even then Len was doing what she was doing more to test theory than she was to specifically spite the people within her creation.
Naniya, also, never took it to the vendetta levels that Caoilhain always did. She moved on with her life. I’m sure there were people Nani didn’t like or particularly get along with, but I wouldn’t say they were enemies.
