Jasper jump scare!
Tumblr media
Special shout out to Jasper who was the only CEC character that didn’t terrify me as a kid.
I can’t see Jasper singing a synth/electro pop song, but at the same time..that would be amazing.
Anyways, shout out to all the Owl City/Mid-Summer Station album fans out there! The vibes are unrivaled (I know Ocean Eyes is good but no one talks about the midsummer station album!)

Ghost coming back with a second ask to say what a trip 2017-2019 MCR tumblr was. Everyone was calling Frank a “stinky Italian rat” and then Gerard was a “adorable precious bean too good for this world”. Mikey was just “…” and then Ray was boiled down to being “the hair”.
I still have my old ass Pinterest board from that era with like 200+ things on it
- 👻
jesus that sounds like a nightmare. occasionally, i’ll see old posts from mcr tumblr and they’re so embarrassing that i’ve gotta laugh. but i was also embarrassing back then, so i’m in no place to judge.
also i love that you still have the pinterest board. i have mine from 2012 and i swear the first 100 pins are adam young. i was a little obsessed.

sometimes i think about that owl city dude and wonder how he was able to produce 4, arguably 5, flawless albums, both lyrically and melodically and at least 3 of them production-wise as well, and then one day suddenly decide that nah, catchy diverse songs mixing clever puns, playful imagery and poignant lyrics that are both relatable and dreamy is NOT what we're going for anymore. from now on we go with the same synth-melody endlessly rehashed in all the songs, as well as extremely tired lyrical clichés and rambly songs that sound like they were improvised given a random topic, like how you sing about making pancakes while making pancakes

...how...
how did i not know this song
its from midsummer station??? i know that entire album except bombshell blonde somehow??!?
anyways you are absolutely correct about it being an aventurine song XD
also i love that i keep discovering these owl city gems that somehow slipped through my radar XD XD
XD
Tbf it’s one of his songs that doesn’t really sound like an Owl City song, despite the lyrics being absolute witty fire XD
It’s one that took me a while to get to as well so no worries XD

Do you have a favorite music genre? Any favorite songs? I'd love to know! :D
I honestly don't think I have a favorite music genre. XD I just like songs. Most often they're songs for whatever fandom I'm in. (So I've listened to a lot of Sonic songs specifically recently.) Or stuff I just randomly come across.
But one artist I really like is Owl City! That's my go-to right now if I'm not listening to Sonic. :D Here's a few of my favorite Owl City songs:
Vanilla Twilight
Bird With A Broken Wing
Wolf Bite
Beautiful Times
This Isn't The End
Pretty much everything on the Midsummer Station album

RE: all things brought and beautiful, how does it feel having immaculate taste. I saw him in concert during that era and it ruled.
it's THEEEEE owl city album to me like don't get me wrong i love ocean eyes and maybe i'm dreaming quite a lot. i was even a midsummer station girlie for a while; i think we all were. but atbab was the first owl city album that felt like mine. i was so ridiculously obsessed with so many songs on it for SO many years and i still have not stopped thinking about "plant life" ever.

lmao fucking rip to me, i saw that owl city is gonna be touring near me (first band i ever wanted to see in concert) and finally went to listen to the new album out of curiosity, and unfortunately adam check please is i think the first of his songs that i've ever actively loathed. i've always known he was white and privileged and more than a little irritatingly christian, despite, like. loving the vast majority of his music. but what the fuck is this capitalist corporate bullshit sludge. it's not even catchy, it fucking sucks.
and then in sharp contrast under the circus lights feels like the first true return to form for him--a song that is making me Feel Things from him in a way that i haven't since fucking pre mobile orchestra??? (cinematic was like...alright, i guess, like it was. fine. it was fine. and i liked mobile orchestra and it's hugely nostalgic for me, but none of it Felt Like Owl City except bird with a broken wing) and now like out of nowhere this feels like something that could've come off of the midsummer station or all things bright and beautiful?? WHAT IS GOING ON

for the music ask: 5, 12 and 20
5: A song that needs to be played LOUD.
Scrolled through some playlists and came up with Didn't Have Time To Think by Math the Band, which was one of my main numbers for Anaemia May and deserves to be Yelled Along To. (Or played really loudly in your headphones and mouthed along to, if it's late at night and you're walking around in the dark.)
12: A song from your preteen years.
Oh man, what was I listening to when I was 12...I'll give you a (set of) classic(s) off of Owl City's album The Midsummer Station, the first album I ever downloaded by and for myself, which has phenomenal affective power among my kin unit, for better or worse: Metropolis, Dementia, or I'm Coming After You, which is exceptionally silly (affectionate) and never fails to crack me up.
20: A song that has many meanings to you.
Hm. this IS hard. There are a lot of songs I can interpret in different ways, of which all tend to coalesce into one Overarching Meaning - off the top of my head, is Cecilia and her Selfhood by Villagers about the patriarchy? Is it about nationalism? Jealousy? Violence? It is about all of these things, to me. Which is kind of the point, I think.
In terms of "songs which have various different meanings, formulated by you over time, and not just in the sense of indeterminacy" I'm tempted to go for something old, like Carried Away by Passion Pit. My first musical device was a tiny iPod my grandparents got for me, which Dad put all the music he was into on for me to listen to, except all the metadata corrupted or the mechanism by which to access it broke, so I never had any clue what I was listening to, just vibes. Carried Away was my favourite song on that iPod and I would always shuffle through to find it whenever I dug it up, so it has a sort of episodic history generated out of the various disconnected encounters I had with it through my preteen and teen years. Then I stumbled upon Take a Walk on YouTube, by the same band and way more famous, and found my way to Carried Away from there, so I know what it's called now. Also what the lyrics actually are, so I can have a scholarly interpretation of it as well, existing alongside stuff like "my relationship with my Dad" and "various returns to This Specific Song". Passion Pit are still one of my favourite bands.
