How to do Office 365 tenant to tenant migration?
Office 365 tenant-to-tenant migration is vital when organizations undergo significant changes such as mergers or acquisitions. This guide will help you with the right approach to migrating your data, user accounts, and system dependencies from one Office 365 tenant to another. We will help you understand the planning, use of third-party tools, and steps for a smooth transition. We will also provide stepwise guidance with thestepwiseOffice 365 migration tool. Be with us to quickly become a pro in Office 365 tenant-to-tenant migration. Office 365 tenant to tenant migration Cross-tenant migrations are primarily used in mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures that call for strategic migration depending upon a given scenario. Migration Patterns One-Time Migration: All data on the source tenant is migrated to the target tenant in a single operation. Phased Migration: Data migration takes place in stages for a controlled transition. Split Flow/Tenant Move: Users and data are split into different target tenants. Pre-Migration Considerations - Domain Preparation: License Adequacy: You must make sure that there are enough licenses for all the migrating users within the target tenant. Administrative Accounts: Create specific admin accounts in the source and target tenants. Target Tenant Mailboxes: Create the user mailboxes, room/resource mailboxes, and distribution groups for the target tenant before migration. Optional: Active Directory Consolidation: Consolidate the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) if needed, then do manual or synchronized domain syncing. - Domain Verification: Start target domain verification within the Microsoft 365 admin centre. Add the source domain and set up the TXT records in the target tenant's DNS. Check the domain exclusivity; a domain must not be simultaneously associated with multiple tenants. It takes up to 3 days for successful verification. - Migration Scheduling: Generate a user mailbox list for migration and create a corresponding CSV mapping file. Identify the lowest TTL (Time to Live) value of the primary email domain's MX record. Disable directory sync on the source tenant to prevent unintended AD DS changes. - Migration Stage: Stop Inbound Mail Flow: The incoming emails with the source tenant must be blocked by changing the MX record to an unreachable value or using a third-party service. Source Tenant Preparation: Remove the primary email domain from all objects within the source tenant before mailbox migration. Reset the default email address for all objects to their initial Microsoft 365 addresses. Deactivate Lync licenses in the source tenant using the Lync Admin Portal. Reset default email addresses for distribution lists, rooms, and resources to their initial domain. Remove secondary email addresses from all tenant objects. Employ the Windows PowerShell command Get-MsolUser -DomainName xyz.com to identify objects referencing the primary email address. - Target Tenant Preparation: Verify the source tenant within the target domain (approximately one hour after source tenant preparation). Configure the auto-discovery CNAME record. Configure a new domain for AD FS within the target tenant if using AD FS. Activate new user accounts in the target domain and assign appropriate licenses. Set the source domain as the primary email address for new users using Windows PowerShell. Determine the method for communicating passwords to end-users. With active user mailboxes, update mail routing by pointing the MX record to the new Office 365 email address. - Post-Migration Validation: Conduct thorough testing of mail flow within and external to the target tenant. Now is the right time to start the final migration process. This Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migration process needs high technical expertise, as the PowerShell script is the sole manual approach. It is time-consuming and needs top expertise, but you can still follow the PowerShell scripts from Microsoft at your convenience. A professional tool must be used for better migration control and quicker processes. We have developed the Kernel Office 365 migration tool to make your work easier. This tool is a valuable asset that helps with tenant-to-tenant migration with no hassle. Use advanced filters and save migration reports for further assistance. Now, let us get to the workings of this tool for Office 365 tenant-to-tenant migration. Access the tool and tap on Add Source to add your first tenant account. Enter the Microsoft 365 account details and choose List all mailboxes using the above credentials. Tap on the Get User mailboxes option. Choose the specific mailboxes now and tap on Add. After adding the source account, add the destination account. Fill in all the details and add the destination account. Map the mailboxes to each other and tap on Set Filter and Migrate. Choose the type of destination (Mailbox, Public Folder, or Archive Mailbox) and tap on Migrate. You will see the Filter Selection window. Apply the required filters and tap on I am OK Start Migration. Migration will begin now. The time taken for the migration process depends on the amount of data. After the migration, you can save the migration report in the CSV format. Conclusion For Office 365 tenant-to-tenant migration, this guide has provided relevant insights with step-wise guidance. As discussed, the only possible manual approach is to use PowerShell scripts. But, having some tech expertise for a successful migration would be best. We advise you to use the Kernel Office 365 Migration tool to avoid the hassle of such complexity. It has an easy-to-use interface, and simple yet effective features make your tenant-to-tenant migration an easy endeavor. For more insights on the tool, take the free trial today. OneLake: Simplifying Your Data Lake with Microsoft Fabric
Microsoft OneLake or Azure OneLake
Azure will first investigate the barriers that keep people from finding, obtaining, and using data to innovate and improve decision-making. Azure will also demonstrate the potential of Microsoft Fabric’s one, SaaS, multi-cloud data lake, OneLake, which is intended to link to any data inside the company and provide access to it for all users in a well-organised, user-friendly hub. Your data teams can manage your data, promote high-quality data to promote utilisation, and control access using the OneLake data hub. The data elements that users have access to are simple to locate, examine, and use, whether they are found within data tools like Fabric or even inside programs like Teams and Excel.
OneLake
What is Microsoft OneLake?
The basis upon which all Fabric services are constructed is the data lake. OneLake is another name for Microsoft Fabric Lake. It is a feature of the Fabric service that gives all organisational data operating in the experiences a single, accessible area to be stored.
On ADLS Gen2, OneLake is constructed. It offers a tenant-wide data storage and a unified SaaS experience for both professional and amateur developers. OneLake SaaS streamlines the user experience by removing the requirement for users to comprehend any infrastructure concepts, like regions, resource groups, Azure Resource Manager, RBAC (Role-Based Access Control), or redundancy. Furthermore, the user does not even need to have an Azure account to utilize it.
Individual developers provide and setup their own segregated storage accounts, creating the ubiquitous and disorderly data silos that exist today. OneLake solves this problem. Rather, OneLake offers all developers a single, unified storage solution where policy and security settings are enforced consistently and centrally, and data sharing and discovery are simple.
In addition to making your data available to people who want it, you must provide them with strong analytics tools that enable them to grow in tandem with the demands of the company. Here’s where Microsoft Fabric really excels. Data teams may use Fabric to use a single product with a unified architecture and experience that offers all the features needed for analysts to pull insights out of data and deliver them to the business customer.
With the necessary tools, data scientists, data engineers, data analysts, business users, and data stewards may all feel perfectly at home in the analytics process. Because the experience is provided as a Software as a Service (SaaS) platform, customers may sign up in a matter of seconds and get substantial commercial value in a matter of minutes. Everything is immediately integrated and optimised.
Getting insights into the hands of everyone in your business is the next stage, especially with your data centralised and your data teams equipped to find insights more quickly than before. She’ll demonstrate how you can integrate reports and insights from Power BI with third-party programs like Salesforce and the SAP as well as your own products like Dynamics 365, Microsoft 365, and Power Platform.
Azure Fabric
Data migration, data science, real-time analytics, and business intelligence are all covered by Microsoft Fabric, an all-in-one analytics solution for businesses. The company provides data lake, engineering, and integration services in one location. You don’t have to combine various services from various providers while using Fabric. Alternatively, you may take advantage of a fully integrated, comprehensive, user-friendly solution that streamlines your analytics requirements.
Microsoft Fabric is an implementation of data mesh architecture that helps businesses and people to transform massive and complicated data stores into useful workloads and analytics.
It takes more than just putting technological features into place to promote adoption and foster a data culture. Technology may help an organization have the most effect, but creating a positive data culture requires taking a variety of factors into account, including people, procedures, and technology.
The appropriate instruments have always ignited change, from the development of steam power to the introduction of smartphones, which have placed the world’s information at people’s fingertips. And now they are beginning to see the possibilities of the next major change: the AI age. They are seeing this influence, along with other leaders, on people, whole teams, and every industry. It is one of the most exciting transformations of the generation. Everything from voice analytics and content creation to corporate chat for improved knowledge mining and data analysis for more insights and data accessibility.
Consider PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), a longtime developer in technology and a leader in the professional services industry. PwC is using generative AI to gather, process, and evaluate data more quickly in order to better serve its staff and provide clients better audit experiences.
Use Fabric to connect your data
PwC is not by itself. Businesses are using AI more and more to change their data cultures in order to get better business results. Building this culture traditionally calls for the following essential components:
Logically arranging your data into a mesh to facilitate users’ ability to find, use, and improve the best accessible data.
Building a smooth analytics engine that can satisfy the company’s need for real-time insight discovery.
Incorporating such insights into the daily apps that your employees use to enable data-driven decision-making.
While these stages remain essential, you can now use generative AI to speed up the process of creating a data-rich culture by increasing your data teams’ productivity and increasing everyone’s access to analytics tools. Microsoft can assist you at every stage of this process, as she explains in her webinar, Infusing AI into your Data Culture: A Guide for Data Leaders.

The all-you-need-to-know guide on cloud migration and its benefits
The cloud is where the future is. Cloud adoption means different things to different people. Cloud adoption offers multiple benefits.
The cloud is where the future is. An increasing number of organizations are migrating to the cloud as it offers better operational flexibility and cost-efficiency. The pandemic has ushered in an era of accelerated movement towards the cloud. A rapidly changing landscape demands an infrastructure that can grow along with changing demands.
Cloud adoption offers multiple benefits. But the journey can be fraught with obstacles as it has a pervasive influence across various areas. There are many moving parts and decision points that organizations will have to navigate before moving to cloud technology. Let’s have a quick look at what the cloud means.
Peering into the cloud
Cloud adoption means different things to different people. No two needs and journeys are similar. That is the advantage and power of the cloud. But the downside is it raises a lot of questions.
What is SaaS? Is moving your entire platform to the cloud a viable option? What are the different types of clouds? As a company with extensive experience in the cloud computing and cloud transformation space, we’ll try to throw some light into the world of cloud technology.
Infrastructure As A Service (IaaS)
IaaS is a complete computing stack that includes servers, operating software, data storage, and instant computing infrastructure deployed in the cloud and managed over the internet.
Software As A Service (SaaS)
The SaaS model is the quickest growing market segment. Software is centrally hosted and maintained. Users can subscribe to the software and utilize it on-demand. It eliminates the need for huge storage space and specialized teams to maintain/upgrade the software.
In the context of cloud ERP, the ERP solution is hosted in the cloud and users gain anytime access to business-critical information. It has the advantage of having significantly lesser upfront costs and being highly scalable.
The top 10 benefits of using a cloud ERP solution
The subscription-based payment model lowers TCO and upfront costs.
IT security and upgrades are taken care of by the vendor eliminating the need for in-house IT support.
Application software licensing costs are cut back on.
Ability to scale up or down based on storage and computing requirements.
Enhanced data security and availability.
Disaster recovery management programs by the vendor offer complete data backup.
Valuable to SMBs as it offers advanced functionality at a much lesser investment.
Ability to expand geographically as software isn’t stored or maintained locally.
Reduced end-user training costs.
Higher computing power and extended functionality.
The answer to the question of whether cloud ERP is the right investment to make for fast-growth organizations is a resounding ‘Yes’. There are several types of cloud ERP available.
Types of cloud ERP software
Multi-tenant SaaS– A single version of an ERP solution is centrally available to multiple organizations. However, strictly authenticated access is available to data. The data of one organization isn’t accessible to the others.
Single-tenant SaaS- Organizations that prefer a single ERP solution and its infrastructure to be exclusively available to them opt for a private instance. A custom-built ERP instance is available on a private server.
Public cloud- A public cloud is owned by the service provider. Multiple companies can utilize the cloud computing services provided. Data is private and isn’t shared or accessible across organizations.
Private cloud- A cloud computing service that is available privately and exclusively for a single organization.
Microsoft Dynamics 365- The top player in cloud ERP solutions for a reason
What’s the difference between top players and the also-rans? It is the difference between software that facilitates a better way of working and a solution that repeatedly gets in the way of progress. A startlingly large number of companies accrue higher costs after moving to the cloud. The reason behind it is choosing the wrong software.
Dynamics 365 is a strong ERP solution from the trusted Microsoft stable. As a multi-tenant public cloud service, it offers great cost savings and a smooth user experience. Users can be assured that their data is stored in hyper-scale, enterprise-grade data centers. It combines the power of a full-fledged ERP software and a feature-rich CRM.
