Thank Goodness it's Thursday Part 9 - Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
In today's review, I find that a new body of evidence is needed to vanquish the imortal killer. As I attempt a positive review of the 1993 finale Jason Goes To Hell #KaneHodder #JohnDLeMay #StevenWilliams #AllisonSmith #ErinGray #StevenCulp
Even with success on your hands, you can’t keep doing the same thing interminably. After seven films worth of infamous masked slasher antics, the authorities and Jason had to up their game, but as proven countless times before, death isn’t the end. In 1993, he tried some tricks from his contemporary, Freddy, for his supposedly final outing. In Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday. Possession is…

2024 Golden Globe Awards | Los Angeles, CA | January 7, 2024
Gucci gown
Let it be known my Roman Empire is painted a shade of aurora borealis green.
I’m biased. I love it. You’re buckling up for a rave. But everyone knew that, right?
I want it on record that no one should be surprised when they see this lewk on the TSS Favourite Outfits of 2024 list. And that I’ll devise some maniacal strategy to make it make sense to include in every annual list from here to eternity.
Let's get the obvious out of the way in that this shade of green could easily be interpreted as very snakelike and thus a nod to reputation and its forthcoming re-recorded version. I'd even happily apply it to the teal-y and springlike green of debut if we want to go debutation on this.
But if we are to talk about Gucci we have to talk about the precipice the house is upon right now. As it relates to Taylor, I suspect her dress (specific shade TBD - Chartreuse? Apple? Pear? Some other adjacent fruit that’s a feast for my eyes?) is a preview of Fall 2024 and a clear indicator of the path the new creative director Sabato De Sarno’s will take the brand in. Which is to say, muting the eccentricity of Alessandro Michele’s era of Gucci that brought the brand to a new level of renown in favour of something cleaner and sexier. Nicole Phelps for Vogue already noted that De Sarno’s first collection for Gucci — Spring 2024’s Ancora, meaning ‘again’ in English and released in September — evokes a Gucci when Tom Ford was once at the helm, praising De Sarno’s approach to “the upfront sex appeal of those ’60s-by-way-of-the-’90s shapes, and straight riffs on Ford hits” while “establish[ing De Sarno’s] essentials, focusing on cut and proportion, and repeating shapes for emphasis.”
Indeed, Taylor’s gown is directly reminiscent of a Fall 2004 look from Ford’s Gucci - all green sparkles and sexy disco energy. This makes sense when we consider De Sarno’s history and homeworking when he decided to take the creative director post. He told WWD, “Gucci to me equals luxury … the first fashion piece I ever owned was a Gucci jacket by Tom Ford. I still remember I traveled to Rome to buy it with my friend … luxury was really not part of our world. Television was the only way to see fashion for me back then.” He added, “My ambition is to build an aesthetic message with an edited collection that is mindful of Gucci’s heritage and close to my own aesthetics.”
When we consider my personal history with Taylor and Gucci, I don’t have to look very far to immediately picture one of my all time favourite Taylor looks — the 2014 Grammys when she wore a sparkling Gucci Première column gown which is not too dissimilar to this one. What can I say, I’m consistent. The shape, the perfect kiss-the-floor hemming, and obviously the divine colour that really pops on Taylor will have me swooning for a long time.
At the end of it all, what I come back to is De Sarno’s sentimentality to naming his first collection: Ancora. Again. He told WWD, “Ancora is a word that you use when your desire is not over yet … I want to fall in love with fashion all over again — ancora.” In the same interview he said, “I like words a lot, they have weight and a precise meaning, they convey emotions, so I like artists who use words.”
It dawns on me that Taylor’s light is shining at its brightest now as she highlights, celebrates, and - indeed - falls in love with all the versions of herself she has ever been. Revisiting her eras past again. And again. In every re-record. In every step she takes on stage. In every cutting line she writes in ruminating and revisiting the experiences of her life and translating them into song. She’s flitting, flirting, memorializing all her past selves in celebration of their summation of her current self. And that’s what this ‘era of eras’ has been.
So if this is De Sarno’s Gucci I say welcome. Ancora.

EYES OF LAURA MARS (1978) – Episode 232 – Decades of Horror 1970s
‘I remembered that I was sneakin’ out the back door of the bar. So I said to myself, man, I said,”What the *fuck* are you doin’, man? Sneakin’ out the back door, runnin’ away, man, from what? I mean, you didn’t do nothin’. Nobody can prove that you did nothin’ because you did not do nothin’.”’ As usual, he had an elaborate alibi. Join your faithful Grue Crew – Doc Rotten, Bill Mulligan, Chad Hunt, and Jeff Mohr, along with guest Dirk Rogers – as they discuss Eyes of Laura Mars (1978), … a movie with a script co-written by John Carpenter?

John Carpenter wrote a script and it became Eyes of Laura Mars (1978). However, there was so little similarity between the finished product and his original script that Carpenter had little more to do with the film. Even so, Faye Dunaway, Tommy Lee Jones, Rene Auberjonois, Brad Dourif, and Raul Julia add credence to the movie along with Irvin Kershner’s direction and some very Giallo-like touches. Where will the Grue-Crew, joined by Dirk Rogers, come down amid the muddled aspects of Eyes of Laura Mars? You’ll just have to check it out to find out. Incidentally, did you notice Brad Dourif was in the film?
At the time of this writing, Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) is available to stream from Tubi and multiple PPV sources. It is available on physical media as a Blu-ray formatted disc from Kino Lorber Studio Classics and from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1970s is part of the Decades of Horror two-week rotation with The Classic Era and the 1980s. In two weeks, the next episode, chosen by Bill, will be Black Noon (1971), a TV movie, horror western starring Roy Thinnes, Lynn Loring, Yvette Mimeaux, Ray Milland, and Henry Silva. Mr. Mulligan tells us it’s pretty good.

Group Two Round Two
Character info from submissions under the cut
Sam Abrams (Headcanon) Sam is a neurosurgeon and a minor character in Chicago Med. He has a very dead pan delivery when he talks, and can come off as almost brash or rude to people or patients that don't know him very well. Despite that, he has a soft spot for kids and pediatric patients. He has a daughter, Lucy, and a wife Michelle. It's mentioned in the show that Michelle's not Lucy's mother. Headcanon: I imagined Sam was an active member as child and young adult, but now he's not, but he still holds the beliefs he was raised with. When the time for his mission came, Sam was kinda starting to crack. He had a rough time during it, struggling with his belief the church. But, he stayed faithful and diligent. He got married, had his daughter, became a neurosurgeon, and continued putting on a facade of being okay with everything. When he eventually got divorced, Sam stopped going to church completely. Though he's inactive, he still holds the basic beliefs of the church, but he only ever talks about it with his wife.
Elder Jared Phelps (Canon) A recently returned missionary, who, since returning has been the complete Butt Monkey of all who knew him. His family moved without telling him, he lost his job and his girl, and to add insult to injury, got thrown in jail for a crime he didn't commit. Life kicks him while he's still down. He just returned from his mission. Frankly it's a miracle he's still a member after the day he's had.
#I hope the person who submitted sam doesn't mind but I cut down the description a bit#I would love to hear you talk more about your headcanon though!! please add propaganda to the post and stuff#mormon tournament#poll#sam abrams#headcanon#elder jared phelps#canon

Watch the stream here
Subscribe to the kickstarter here
Subscribe to the Maestro Media page pre-launch to get an exclusive Gizmo standee
Kickstarter and board game info:
-'Strange Nightmares' is currently a 2-4 player game, but developers at Maestro Media are working on possibly making a single player route
- Base pledge for the kickstarter is $40 (those who subscribe within the first 48 hours will receive a free 2" dark glitter pony figure)
-Game is still in development. There may be expansions to the game which add additional stories and game aspects, depending on how successful the kickstarter is.
- 3 stories in the game at launch, each with multiple endings. Steve has written about 30 storylines, and they are currently working on implementing story number 4.
- The digital version of the board game will be available
- Game takes 45 minutes to an hour to play
-About a 60/40 win to loss ratio, stories get progressively more difficult.
- Game and merch will feature both art from the original video game and fanart
- There will be social media challenges following the kickstarter launch 'please don't break the law doing these challenges... (or don't get caught!)'
- Travis is not in the board game (but he may get a vinyl figure, which will be available through the kickstarter)
-'Strange Boxes' are SF themed loot crates/ puzzles that will be sent out quarterly. They will contain t-shirts and other merch featuring art from various artists, as well as mystery puzzles to solve. You can purchase single boxes, subscribe to receive them as they're released, or purchase all of them and receive them all at once after they've all been released.
- Will there be sheet music in the Strange Boxes? 'No... I never learned music theory... I don't write anything down, its all in my head. I just play what feels good.'
-There will be Kenneth merch
Misc. SF lore and questions for Steve:
- Will Sal return in physical form (in SF2)? 'Depends on your definition of 'physical'.'
- Is Larry a hot dog or hamburger guy? 'He likes both, he just smooshes them together and eats them at the same time.'
- If the characters had voices, is there anyone who you can name? '...I have a particular voice in my head for Sal, I cant think of anyone who sounds like him... Ash sounds like Michelle Trachtenberg or Sarah Michelle Gellar... Larrys voice is like Keaneu Reeves from Bill and Ted but a little less doofy.'
- Steve has not watched the (Featherfall Studios) fan dub, but will watch it eventually
- What happened to Bob (Todds fish)? 'No comment... hes fine, don't worry'
- Are Sal and Larry devious enough to run from the police? 'Probably, it depends on what they did.'
- ' The friends tried to start a band together but it didn't go far... Sal plays guitar, Todd plays keyboard, Ash sings and plays base, Larry plays drums... they didn't play well but they loved it. Played 90s vibe grungy rock. Larry would have definitely been screaming. I didn't come up with a band name... they probably had a big list and kept switching the name.'
- 'Janice's favorite color is yellow.'
- Philip was not one of the people being sacrificed my the cult in ch 5
- Did Sal recognize pastor Phelps as the same person who shot his mom? 'Sort of. He thought it might be the same person, but he wasn't sure.'
- Did Travis ever end up hanging out with Sal? 'Sal tried... They didn't end up hanging out... Travis' feelings were conflicted on becoming friends... he is so stubborn. '
- Have you read any SF fanfiction? 'I haven't... I didn't want it to influence any story decisions.'
- Sal and Travis or Sal and Ash? 'No comments on ships.'
- Why was SF set in the 90s? 'That's when I grew up... a main inspiration was 90s cartoons, so it's set in that time.'
- Was Travis made in a test tube or does he have a mom? 'He has a mom.... I don't wanna give too much away.'
- Do you watch SF cosplay tiktoks? 'Sometimes. If people tag me in stuff I usually watch them... sometimes I search the tags.'
- Are Lisa and Janice friends? 'Of course they're friends!'
- Did Sal ever introduce Soda to Megan? 'No. He wouldn't want to freak Soda out... especially because Chug is freaked out by her. He wouldn't want to go against Chugs wishes. If Soda would have gotten older, maybe he would have.'
- What happened to the art book? 'We had a publisher, but we lost it. We have a new one that's interested... still trying to get it published.'

Ngl at first i was wondering why bad bunny and kendall were doing that gucci campaign and i was lowkey upset cause i‘m sorry harry has more pull, why change him our for them. But then i googled bad bunny net worth: 88 million and harry is 120. So i get it now, h doesn‘t need it anymore and with alessandro being gone, he doesn‘t need to be a supportive friend
The first Gucci collection by Sabato De Sarno is much more conservative than Alessandro's collections, and that's not Harry's vibe.
GUCCI SPRING 2024 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION
BY NICOLE PHELPS
September 22, 2023
Sabato De Sarno’s Gucci debut was planned for the streets of Brera, near the arts university and the students that make the neighborhood such a lively, vibrant part of Milan. A rainy forecast forced a late-breaking venue change—a hard decision but the right one: the skies opened up half an hour before showtime. It meant we were back at the company headquarters on the edge of town where Alessandro Michele held his Gucci shows, but in every other way that counts, this was a clean break from the brand’s recent past.
When Kering named De Sarno for the job in January, he was an unknown quantity, with the remit of “reinforcing the house’s fashion authority while capitalizing on its rich heritage,” said the press release announcing his appointment. His predecessor had left in November, after a seven-year run that had reversed the fortunes of the Italian heritage label and changed the look of fashion, but ended amid reports of flattening sales and falling share prices.
De Sarno was plucked from the design studio at Valentino, where he rose from knitwear designer to Pierpaolo Piccioli’s closest collaborator over the course of 14 years. His former boss was in the audience today, alongside the likes of Julia Roberts, Jodie Comer, Ryan Gosling, and Paul Mescal. Mark Ronson, who produced the show soundtrack, attended with his wife Grace Gummer. Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner were both in the crowd, though not together. There was no Jared Leto.
The eccentricity that was central to Gucci’s former era was entirely absent. Instead, De Sarno set out to establish his essentials, focusing on cut and proportion, and repeating shapes for emphasis. The first look was a peak-lapeled coat in a dry charcoal wool, its only embellishment a striped grosgrain ribbon on the inside of the back vent, worn over a simple white tank and black short-shorts with a GG buckle belt.
