Eurovision Fact #453:
In 2014, children aged 10-15 were allowed to participate in Junior Eurovision. This rule would hypothetically allow 15-year-olds to take part in Junior Eurovision one year, then Eurovision in the next.
However, this was only ever done by Anita Simoncini, who participated for San Marino in Junior Eurovision in 2014 as a member of The Peppermints, then represented the nation in Eurovision the following year as part of a duo with Michele Perniola.
She placed 15th in Junior Eurovision and unfortunately did not qualify for the Grand Final in Eurovision, placing 16th in her semi-final.

Mostra Collettiva Internazionale / LiberaMente “Is Contemporary Art a Prison?

Eurovision 2010s: 230 - 226
230. Valentina Monetta & Jimmie Wilson - “Spirit of the night” San Marino 2017
youtube
[2017 Review here]
“Watching Valentina and Jimmie grind in front of millions is like walking into your parents having sex on the kitchen counter” -- me during my 2017 rewatch
All of Valentina Monetta’s other entries are safely tucked away into the Green Zone, but I cannot extend the same courtesy to “Spirit in the night”. Like, we’ve already had an amazing triple act, so why do we even need this if it’s not going to contribute to that? I love Valentina and I love Siegel’s trashpulp as much as any person with bad taste does, (I could definitely *like* SotN if I was feeling generous), but this time it’s a no for me. 🤗

229. Michele Pergniola & Anita Simoncini - “Chain of lights” San Marino 2015
youtube
No.

228. TWIN TWIN - “Moustache” France 2014
youtube
As you can see, we are wrapping up the mehzone and before we do that, we need to get rid of everything that is “almost” good, but not quite good enough. :-)
TWIN TWIN are a good example of this: they have everything at their disposal for some hilarious trainwrecktitude and... don’t entirely deliver on the hilarious part lol. I mean, I think the entry is well-staged? The camera effects are good
but in terms of delivering the comedy it aims for, it falls just short for me. I think the real damn’ing mistake is that “Moustache” tries too hard to come off as cool when, you know, it’s always been a joke entry. Remember that for future contests, would-be entrants. Always capitalize on what you are and not on what you could be.

227. Anggun - “Echo (You and I)” France 2012
youtube
Anggun is a paragon of homosexuality many bitches would only dream to become. Like, literally being carried around by hot shirtless gymnasts <3 QUEEN OF THE GAYS JONIDA MALIQI DEAD IN A MOTHERFUCKING DITCH. However... it is the very the staging we need to address because what on earth. The gymnasts, the ribbons, the boxes, the salto’s... do we really need all of this?? And well, the answer is “no” because “Echo” is a great song and you can barely pay attention to it due to all the semi-nude Circus shit going on.
Overall, I only get one positive thing out of Anggun: You see, she is the first real notable case (at least since I started my critical analyzing of ESC entries), of destroying your song via needless overstaging and ever since I have evoked her name whenever another (non-Azeri) contestant comes along who also suffers from the overstaging disease that I now christen as ‘Anggun Syndrome’.

226. Mei Finegold - “Same heart” Israel 2014
youtube
YEP, even ‘Same Heart’ doesn’t escape my scrutiny!! I mean, I loved the song in studio, as I’m sure nearly all of us did. “Same heart” is, to use the present-day terminology, a “banger”.
However, the ESC performance of “Same Heart” just... didn’t live up to the hype. I think the problem is more or less two-fold: firstly, Mei’s vocal technique is one of slooooowly drawwwwling ouuuut wooooooords in that contralto voice of hers, which isn’t a great idea when your song is uptempo and bouncy. Secondly, death by wideshot.
She just looked lost and not found on the stage. Mei really could’ve been one of the all-time best; however, she wasn’t, so where do I rank her? In the mehzone, where she belongs. 😈

@trinklied I have been thinking about this and here are my conclusions:
It's for San Marino - they're the smallest nation competing which always grants them underdog status. They're also great in the media/meme game. We love them and we want them to succeed. San Marino getting a famous American rapper to be in their Eurovision entry is W I L D. How did that even happen? It seems unbelievable but it's true
I say above he's a famous rapper, which is accurate, but he's not a Recognizable International Superstar. Check this post to understand what I mean
He's only a guest singer. He's not credited as the artist, only Senhit is. She's still the one taking the lead.
He's in Eurovision as a competitor not as a special guest, which puts him on the same level as Uku Suviste and Destiny. He's just one in 40+ artists participating this year. Yes, he missed the first rehearsals and events, he's a busy man, but he had his 3 minutes on stage like everyone else, he had to anxiously wait for the results in the green room like everyone else, he did the press conference like everyone else. He qualified, he's earned his place in the show tonight
Special guests like Timberlake and Madonna were given minutes of air time for being worldwide stars. That's not what we want in Eurovision! Why are these Americans taking the stage and the attention? Give us the superstars of the hosting country! Give us a medley of older winners and participants (but dear lord anyone else than Måns!).
So, tldr: famous Americans taking center stage in interval acts? As Michele Perniola once said, "no." Famous Americans featuring in the sanmarinese eurovision entry? I don't know how the hell that happened but sure! I hope he has fun!
#mr rida does eurovision#(a better eurovision film)#(which is something I've always said)#(will ferrell should just have played a clueless american getting roped in into Eurovision)

Ermal is basically the voice of reason of Amici
hiiiiiii. :) can you tell us non italians about this show: amici. we can't really watch it. what;s it about, what;s ermal like in it? thnaks.
well, i’ve only ever watched like 3, maybe 4 episodes and only bc of ermal, who is one of the judges. It’s basically a talent show in which two teams made up of both singers and dancers compete against each other except it doesnt really matter cause only one person wins in the end.
It’s a mess and no one really understands what’s going on 100% of the time but it’s trashy and dramatic and it’s all im here for lol
#NO#the description is on point#that's it#the only thing I would add is the fact that Amici is meant to be a school of performing arts#there are the professors and lessons#also Emma Marrone (Italy 2014) and Michele Perniola (San Marino 2015) are Amici Alumni
