I love it when my husband has a bad day.

Don't get me wrong, it's not like I want to see him sad because things didn't go as planned during practice or that teammate of his was more annoying then usual. I just like the way he acts when he comes home to me after a bad day.

Some people shout and get angry. Other people isolate themselves to calm down after those (unavoidable) bad days. But not the man I promissed to love in sickness and health.

When he comes home, he doesn't say anything. He takes off his jacket and shoes as quick as possible and just throws himself at me. He then proceeds to nuzzle his head in my neck, still not saying a word, and, after he found the "perfect" position (which I know he did, cause he sighs and smiles when he does find it), he grabs my hand and puts it in hair, as if it's a silent plea for me to tangle my fingers through his locks and massage his scalp.

We spend hours like this. Just me and him bathing in each other's presence, without anything or anyone else to intervee. Sometimes, he even falls asleep, and I want to gush about how comfortable he is around me and yap about how cute he is while sleeping (even if he drools all over the bed most of the times). And then I concentrate on him and him only: his softened breath, his heart pace starting to slow down and those inconscious sounds he lets out when I caress the right spot.

I love to whisper to him about my day while passing my hand underneath his shirt, noticing the tension leaving his body and feeling each muscle he worked oh so hard to build. One time, I even joked about giving him a massage. He didn't deny it, so I think he wants one. He just doesn't know how to ask (we really need to work on this kind of communication).

I love my husband. And I love the domesticity and good moments his bad days provide: just me and him, showing our love for each other without needing to say anything.

the cold wind nipped at your skin, goosebumps prickled your skin. rain pattered against the patio roof of the restaurant. rubbing your hands against your arms, you miserably try to bring some warmth to yourself. you had wanted to dress up nicely for your anniversary dinner, but the weather had other plans. the excitement of spending time with your lover had been diminished by the absence of said lover, the freezing wind your only companion. your foot tapped in rhythm with the rain against the concrete, the petriocor scent of rain mixing with the fragrance of food from the restaurant. as the seconds stretched on, you blew warm air into your hands, taking the opportunity to check your phone. the screen lit up with a picture the two of you took on your first date, the picture sparking a sense of melancholic cheer in your heart. it was 15 minutes past your planned booking time, yet no messages appeared. you tried to keep a cheerful hope alive in your heart. maybe he had run into traffic. maybe he was held back by some unexpected business matter. but with each passing minute, your hope cowered, drifting further away. what more should you have expected from him? it was the third time in a month he had either cancelled last minute or not shown up at all, only sending you a curt, distant apology over text instead.  blinking back the tears that gathered along your eyeline, you checked your phone for the 5th time in 15 minutes, hoping against hope that he was on his way, ignoring the sinking feeling in your chest. 20 minutes passed. 1 hour. once again, he did not come.  the waiter inside shot you a look of pity through the glass doors. the cold emptiness slowly seeped through your veins, the hope draining from your body. every time he ‘missed’ your date, your heart felt like it was steadily being crushed, cracks forming along the edge. the cracks had been forming over time, the gaps spreading inch by inch with every broken promise, every hasty apology. you had hit your breaking point. with a crisp and loud smash, you heard your heart shatter, the crystalline pieces slipping through your fingers, too scattered and lost to be repairable.  you were tired. tired of waiting for him. tired of forgiving him. you wondered, was it perhaps your fault, for mistaking the cracks as something worth holding onto. maybe you were in the wrong, for waiting, for hoping he would turn around and realise his mistakes.  maybe some people fall in love with the wrong people sometimes.

He wasn't exactly glaring at you when he saw you wearing that red dress. After he watched you descend the stairs, he felt as though his whole world had stopped. It took him some time to compose himself again and fake a devastated expression. His feelings for you were no joke. Whatever goals and principles he had were all thrown out of the window when he noticed you.

Throughout his life, he thought he was a rational man, not caring about sentimental things like friends, family, or love. Nevertheless, this changed when he experienced your smile for the first time. Like a tornado, you changed his perception of life and the world. At that moment, he thanked God for your entrance into his life and prayed for you to remain there. He would make sure you would be with him, happy and healthy, because that was all he desired in life.

a/n: writing out my biggest fears of being rejected by the person i like instead of actually doing it because im a loser and a pussy !! ˙◠˙ (ofc the part about him yearning for reader is my delulus because ofc they wouldn't like me back ૮ ˃̶͈ 𐃷 ˂̶͈ ྀིა

your brain was racing with all the possible, worst-case scenarios. the teacher’s voice droning on in the background. your fingers danced on the table, in rhythm to your restless knee, bouncing underneath. the piercing squeal of the bell rings through the classroom, jerking you out of your thoughts. you stand up quickly, the legs of the chair scraping across the floor, hastily stuffing your books into your backpack and carelessly throwing in your pencils and pens. without a backward glance, you dashed out of the classroom. you peered over the throng of students rushing out of their classrooms and into the hallways. you loitered outside his locker, hoping that he hadn’t yet left. to your relief, you spot him making his way through the sea of people, towards you, where his locker was. taking in a few deep breaths, you work up the courage to ask to speak to him in a more private area. your hands are shaking, the chocolates rattling inside their box. you squeeze your eyes shut, swallowing hard, the flutter in your chest stubbornly refusing to subside. “i…i’ve liked you for a long time,” you managed to stutter out, eyes trained on the floor. the chocolates rustle in their box as you extended them. “i hope… you can accept these.” the room was filled with a heavy, suffocating silence, as his eyes scanned you up and down, alight with amusement. he enjoyed watching you squirm under his gaze, hands tangled in your uniform sweater. he scoffed. a dry laugh broke through the silence. “accepting chocolate from you?” he scorned, mouth twisted in a cruel smirk. “don’t make me laugh. why would i? you think you’re good enough for me?” your heart sank, the warmth in your cheeks replaced by an icy numbness. your eyes flitted around the room, trying to find a route of escape, as you felt pressure building behind your eyes. a quiet “oh” of acceptance fell from your lips. “i…i um, need to go home now, i need to go walk my pet fish.” you stammered out, tripping over yourself to leave the room. you didn’t dare make eye contact with him, lest he see the tears building, threatening to fall. the moment the door shut behind you, his smirk dropped, a deep, aching regret taking place. his arms yearned to pull you into a hug, words of apology threatening to fall from his lips. ‘don’t go,’ he pleaded silently, heart aching to comfort you. his lips parted, as if to speak, but the words died on his tongue. he couldn’t show it, couldn’t let others know of his only weakness, how they would hold it against him. not here, not now. this was the only way to protect you that he could think of. if anyone knew how much he cherished you, they’d use it against him and he would rather carve out his own heart before they hurt you. even if it tore him apart inside, this was the price of keeping you safe.
