Europa League là gì?

Europa League được biết đến là giải bóng đá thường niên thuộc cấp câu lạc bộ ở khu vực Châu Âu. Giải đấu này được tổ chức Liên đoàn bóng đá châu âu (UEFA) đảm nhiệm tổ chức. Tiêu chí đáp ứng đủ đủ điều kiện tham gia là các đội tại các giải quốc nội cũng như cúp quốc gia.

Europa League là gì

Hiện tại nó đang được xem là giải đấu hạng hai dành cho các câu lạc bộ châu  âu, lớn xếp dưới UEFA Champions League ( thường gọi là cup C1). Do đó Europa League có tên là Cúp C2. Tiền thân của sự kiện này chính là UEFA Cup và được thành lập vào năm 1971. Đến mùa giải 2009/2010 được đổi tên thành UEFA Cup.

Theo đánh giá trong quá khứ, UEFA Cup và Champions League được nhận định là một sự kiện thể thao hấp dẫn. Mặt khác, cúp C2 cũ còn được gọi là Cúp các câu lạc bộ đoạt cúp bóng đá khu vực Châu âu (UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. Nhưng vào năm 1999, giải đấu đã bị hủy bỏ và hợp nhất thành Europa League.

Năm 2009, UEFA tiến hành sáp nhập với Intertoto Cup. Từ đó mở ra một giải đấu bóng đá lớn hơn. Với việc mở rộng vòng bảng và làm thay đổi toàn bộ tiêu chí tham dự đã giúp chúng ta biết đến Cúp C2.

Những sự thật thú vị về giải đấu đỉnh cao Europa League

Người hâm mộ bộ môn túc cầu châu Âu hẳn đã biết rõ về giải đấu này.  Tuy nhiên, đối với fan hâm mộ trong làng bóng đá trên toàn thế giới thì còn rất nhiều điều thú vị về cúp C2 chưa khám phá hết.

Lịch sử Europa League

Ernst Sanmen người đất nước Thụy Sĩ và Sir Stanley Rous người Anh, Ottorino Barassi người Ý sáng lập ra giải đấu này. Đến tháng 4 năm 1995, Intercity Expo Cup chính thức được hành lập và tổ chức tại 10 thành phố châu âu, có sự tham gia của 10 đội.

Sự kiện đầu tiên kéo dài suốt 3 năm từ 1955 đến 1958. Trải qua hơn 10 năm thì bóng đá được đã dần đổi tên thành UEFA Cup. Lúc này cái tên đã trở nên phổ biến hơn.

Năm 1999 đến 2000, giải đấu này chính thức bị đình chỉ. Sau đó được hợp nhất thành Cúp C3 một giải đấu có cùng tên với UEFA Cup. Thời điểm đó, điều kiện tham gia cuộc thi cũng có chút thay đổi cho các đội châu âu tham dự là phải đoạt được chiếc cúp quốc nội.

Giai đoạn năm 2009 đến 2010, số lượng câu lạc bộ tham dự UEFA Cup đã tăng lên là 48. Cuối cùng, sự kiện bóng đá đình đám trên thế giới này đã được đổi tên thành Europa League.

Quy định thể thức thi đấu

Hiện tại thì mỗi liên đoàn trong 55 thành viên UEFA sẽ có đến 3 đại diện, duy nhất có Liechtenstein là có 1 đội tham dự. Tại vòng bảng sẽ bao gồm 48 đội bóng tham gia, trong đó có những đội vượt qua vòng loại và thua ở vòng play-off Champions League.

Quy định thể thức thi đấu

Sau đó 48 đội bóng này sẽ được chia thành 12 bảng, nhất nhì mỗi bảng sẽ được tham dự vòng knock-out. Tại vòng knock-out sẽ có 32 đội, 24 đội nhất nhì các bảng sẽ cùng với 8 đội đứng thứ 3 vòng bảng Champions League bước vào tham dự sự kiện.

Những đội bóng tham dự mùa giải sẽ thi đấu nhiều trận hơn so với Champions League. Cúp C2 thường sẽ bao gồm vòng loại, vòng bảng, vòng 1/16, vòng 1/8, trận tứ kết, bán kết và cuối cùng là chung kết.

Nhạc hiệu trước thi đấu

Cũng giống với giải đấu UEFA Champions League, tại sân vận động trước khi mỗi trận đấu diễn ra sẽ phát lên một bản nhạc hiệu. Từ năm 2009, bản nhạc hiệu của sự kiện này do Yohann Zweig sáng tác.

Europa League. thường phát hành bản nhạc đó trước lễ bốc thăm vòng bảng năm 2009. Đến năm 2015, cuộc thi bóng đá này chính thức thay đổi với phần nhạc nền mới do Michael Kadelbach là nhạc sĩ sáng tác. Hiện tại, thì giải đấu đang sử dụng nhạc nền mới do Massive Music sáng tác.

·         An additional step has just been taken in the vaccine race. It was the American firm Pfizer that finally broke away first, announcing on Monday that its vaccine candidate developed in partnership with the German BioNTech showed a 90% effectiveness against Covid-19. The performance is well above the 50% rate required by global health agencies to achieve epidemic control. No concerns about the safety of the vaccine were raised.

 ·         The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a ceasefire agreement on Monday under the aegis of Russia. He confirmed the Azerbaijani victories after six weeks of conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, a pro-independence region of Azerbaijan populated almost exclusively by Armenians. Several hundred demonstrators invaded the headquarters of the Armenian government to protest against the signing of this agreement. But the Armenians do not intend to leave their houses to Azerbaijan. They decided to burn them.

In the village of Charketar, residents burned down their homes before the arrival of the Azerbaijanis.

·         Human rights lawyer Hanane al-Barassi murdered in Libya. She was shot dead in her car on Tuesday 10 November in the street in Benghazi. She was 46 years old. A media figure in Libya, she gave a voice to women victims of violence on social networks. She also ran a local women’s rights association. The day before her death, she said on social media that she would publish a video exposing the corruption of Saddam Haftar, son of the leader of the Libyan national army, Khalifa Haftar. Amnesty International denounced the assassination.

·         Joan Mir is crowned World Champion at the end of the Grand Prix of Valencia, in the Queen’s category after her seventh place in the GP. At 23, the Spaniard won this title for his second season.

 ·         On Sunday, Lewis Hamilton won his 94th F1 Grand Prix in Turkey and a seventh F1 World Title. He tied Michael Schumacher’s record. However, it wasn’t going well for the British rider who was only 6th on the grid and lacked performance.

Reigning Mister of Filipinas International 2018 Mark Kevin Janda Baloaloa  is raring to win the second Mister International title for the Philippines. During a special send-off press conference last February 5 at Hotel Benilde Maison De La Salle in Singalong, Manila. The tall and handsome gentleman from Catanauan, Quezon is confident to carry the flag of the country in the forth coming 2019 edition of the pageant to be held here in the Philippines on February 24 at One Espanade in Pasay City.

Close to fifty international delegates will be vying for the 13th year of Mister International pageant. Mark Kevin says that with all the support of the Filipinos pageant fans and blessings from God, he can’t ask for more. He is excited and looking forward to show the beauty of the Philippines, its culture and hospitality to the rest of the delegates during the entire competition. PEPPS ( Prime Event Productions Philippines Foundations) has confirmed that Mark Kevin will be wearing an all Filipino made wardrobe with cultural significance. His national costume is based on the country’s moon eating dragon called The Legend of Bakunawa designed by international acclaimed designer Michael Barassi. Bea Bianca will provide his ready to wear clothes while Olan Roque will do his formal wear. Aside from physical training, Mark Kevin also took intensive runway and communication skills training program with Lynn Bentsen Academy. Present during the send-off were the officers of PEPPS led by their President Carlo Morris Galang, Financial Officer Richard Montoya, Aski Pascual, reigning and former Misters of Filipinas title holders (JP Ocat, Ruben Anthony Timbol and Miguel de Guia). Businessman and owner of PR Diamonds Point Realty Mr. Dante Salamat, a consistent supporter of the pageant also gave his best of luck message to Mark Kevin. The event was hosted by JP Annonuevo.

Meanwhile, Hotel Benilde Maison De La Salle will be the official residence of the 13th Mister International. Contract signing between the officials of the hotel and PEPPS  was made during the send-off press conference for Mark Kevin. Resident Manager Juan Paolo Sumera says that they are supporting the pageant because pf its foundation based on inclusion and its continuity on being an entitiy of diversity. The hotel has a modern minimalist rooms overlooking the entire metropolis of Manila and Makati. Hotel Benilde started to operate way back in 1999.

The candidates of Mister International 2019 will embark on a journey in the north for their preliminary events. They will travel to Ilocos Norte for exciting activities. The local government and tourism office is all set to warmly welcome the international delegates starting on February 18. Reigning Mister International 2018 Seung Hwan lee of Korea will be participating the out of town activities of the contestant.

Overflow crowd expected for Richards’ funeral

LOU RICHARDS always attracted a crowd in life, and he has done it again in death, with hundreds of mourners flocking to Melbourne’s rainy CBD to farewell the football legend.

The much-loved Collingwood and media figure has been honoured with a state funeral service at St Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday.

A who’s who of football, media and government representatives have assembled to pay their respects, including AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, AFL Legend Ron Barassi and greats Kevin Sheedy and Neil Roberts.

The Collingwood contingent is led by president Eddie McGuire and includes coach Nathan Buckley, previous coach Mick Malthouse, past president Allan McAlister and greats Kevin Rose, Peter McKenna and Des Tuddenham, and also in attendance were luminaries such as Victoria Police chief commissioner Graham Ashton, federal Health Minister Greg Hunt, Victoria’s Emergency Services Minister James Merlino and former Victorian Premier John Brumby.

Richards died peacefully on Monday May 8, aged 94, prompting an outpouring of both sadness and celebration for a unique man who lived an extraordinary life.

As expected, Richards’ funeral service was more joyous than sombre.

Richards’ daughter Nicole Morrison gave the gathering an insight into Richards the father: “He loved us, and he spoilt us, he supported us, and most of all, gave us the most wonderful life. There was fun and laughter and never a dull moment.

“He challenged you and nurtured you. He was firm but fair when we were young, and became our best friend once he knew we were ready to make good life choices.”

McGuire said that when he reflected on Richards “and his amazing journey from the Depression-era backstreets of Collingwood to the premiership captain on the MCG, the King of Moomba, and the greatest star in the biggest game in town, the media”, he was reminded of the last stanza of Rudyard Kipling’s poem If, which reads:

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With 60 seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

“And what a man,” McGuire declared. “What a family.”

A feisty rover, Richards followed a long line of family members to represent his beloved Magpies, playing 250 games and kicking 423 goals from 1941-55, and captaining the club to the 1953 premiership.

But it was his ubiquitous presence in the media – on television, radio and in print – that lifted Richards to true superstardom.

Former North Melbourne administrator and friend Ron Joseph alluded to Richards’ healthy ego when he said: “Lou was right. He said his funeral would be bigger than Texas.”

On Richards not being an official Legend in the Australian Football Hall of Fame, Joseph summed up the feelings of many when he asserted: “Lou is a legend. In fact, he is bigger than a legend.”

Former Channel Nine colleague and close friend Tony Jones said: “We as a city, a state and a nation, are all the better for knowing him.”

After the service, Collingwood players and coaches formed a guard of honour outside the cathedral for the motorcade, which passed by the Lou Richards statue at the Holden Centre.

We asked for your favourite memories of Richards, from his 250-game playing career to his time as a Thursday night TV fixture on League Teams, and beyond.

Here are some of your best stories.

I witnessed Lou drinking out of Haydn Bunton’s boot

Lou said that Swan Districts, coached by Haydn Bunton Jnr, couldn’t win the 1961 WAFL Grand Final against massive favourites, Polly Farmer’s East Perth.

He said he would drink milk from Bunton’s boot if the Swans won. The Swans won their first flag and I was at Bassendean Oval on Sunday as an 11-year-old to celebrate and to witness Lou drinking out of Haydn Bunton’s boot.

The day Peter Landy chased him from the commentary box

As 12-year-olds, myself and mates at the Escort Cup matches at VFL Park used to delight in taunting Peter Landy about his ceramic-looking hairpiece.

Lou, overhearing, said: “Ha, it certainly hasn’t moved and we’re in an Arctic gale …”.

Landy then spat the dummy, lurched up from the commentary box and gave chase.

He delivered a reverse stab drop kick onto my chest from 20m

I met Lou as a 13-year-old on entry to the VFL to watch North v South Melbourne in 1977. He took the time to entertain myself and a couple of mates plus deliver a reverse stab drop kick by the heel of his foot sharp onto my chest some 20 metres away.

I’m still amazed by this skillful act 40 years later.

And who can ever forget his entertaining hosting of the Colliwobbles burial at Victoria Park in November 1990?

What a lovable character!

What did they make of Louie the Lip in Saudi Arabia?

I remember the replay of the 1977 drawn Grand Final. As North were warming up there was an onscreen roll of the countries to which it was being beamed over satellite. For some reason, Saudi Arabia made an imprint.

When the camera came to the gigantic Mick Nolan, Lou said: “and have a look at big Mick Nolan, ‘the Galloping Gasometer’. You need a roadmap and a waterbag just to walk around him”.

The whole family just lost it, and I remember us wondering what they made of that comment in Saudi Arabia. Vale, Louie the Lip.

Drinks in the World of Sports dressing room were unforgettable

Together with four other guys, I was one of the World of Sports ‘Beat The Champ’ quiz men in summers between 1964 and 1976.

After the show was over, all involved would adjourn to the dressing room where Gordon, Lou’s barman from the Phoenix Hotel, was charged with ensuring nobody’s beer glass was ever empty.

Talking with those sporting legends was unforgettable. Fantastic memories.

A coiner of nicknames

[I loved] his nicknames for players. ‘The Macedonian Marvel’ for Peter Daicos. ‘Lethal’ Leigh Matthews. ‘The Flying Doormat’ for Bruce Doull, ‘the Galloping Gasometer’ for Mick Nolan, ‘the Flying Dutchman’ for Paul Van De Haar … and the list goes on.

I was too young to see him play, but he was a great commentator who brought fun and a light heartedness to the sport.

Dusting Collins St on his hands and knees

I will always remember Lou as one of the greats in our game. He was the real kiss of death.

I remember he once said, if the Magpies lose this game I will dust Collins Street with a feather duster. And he did, on hands and knees.

Rowing Billy Goggin across the Barwon

Besides World of Sport on Sundays, and League Teams, Lou was the voice of footy for me in the 1970s and ’80s.

I can still remember him rowing Geelong coach Billy Goggin across the Barwon River.

Piggybacking ‘the Galloping Gasometer’

My favourite memory of Lou? Piggybacking Mick ‘the Galloping Gasometer’ Nolan on the steps of the North Melbourne Town Hall after a bet with Jack Dyer.

My first reaction on hearing of his passing? Like I felt when John Lennon died. A large chunk of my youth has now been taken away.

Rest in peace, Lou. Hate Collingwood but always admired you and what you stood for.
