“De León. Ye live." '"Sadly." '"How?" he hissed. '"God didn't want me. And the devil was afraid to open the door.”
HE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOK CHARACTERS EVER!
Gabriel De Leon ; character created by Jay Kristoff.
I feel like the EOTV (Empire of the Vampire) series is criminally underrated so I thought I would share a sim based on one of the most badass, hilarious and excellent characters in the series! I hope you like him!
Any sharing is much appreciated ❤️
Feel free to check out my other bookish sims too!!!
REPOSTS ARE OKAY JUST CREDIT ME @violet-the-simmer. Thank you :)

Just thinking about themes of maturation and growing up in Nevernight.
The book starts with a sex scene. It also starts with a murder. Extremely contrasted as separate (yet mirrored) events that solidify the resolve for Mia to leave any lingering innocence behind. She's lost her maidenhood, and her thighs and hands are smeared with blood. She proudly proclaims she is a woman.
And yet.
Every time she is struck with dehumanization, the book reminds us she is a girl.
Every time they are purposefully traumatized by their teachers for a "lesson" they are children.
Even though every classmate has killed a person and harvested their teeth for entrance to a school for assassins... the narrative asks us to remember they are children.
Every time they are hurt, they are children. Every time they need to make a decision and remove their empathy, they are adults. The teachers say this. The students say this.
But the narrator doesn't. And Mia, at times, also doesn't. She chooses to have "childish empathy" for those around her, even if it means she isn't growing up.
It's subtle. It's all in phrasing. But I think it's so beautiful to have a book about revenge also ask us what proves someone is "adult enough."

No, you can't change my mind.
If she was a man, people would hate her 😅 there would be complaints about the love triangle and no one would condone her...

Hey kids, I'm reading Nevernight for the first time, LOVING IT, and these are some of my first impressions for chapters 1-5:
I absolutely love the way shes described, fr said "She's lowk emo, short, and ugly as hell but she's a pistol"
"If her face was a puzzle, most would put it back in the box unfinished." Is on the same page she's getting roasted but yk it's such a line that I feel speaks to me to how a lot of people feel about themselves, idk I think it slaps
"Not a beauty that lovers would die for, armies would march for, heroes might slay a God or daemon for. All in contrast to what you've been told by your poets, I'm sure. But she wasn't without her charm, gentlefriends. And all your poets are full of shit." - pg 9 literally what I'm saying "She look kinda odd but she's got personality I prommy"
In all complete honesty I like how particularly with how the book started with a sex scene right off the bat, it is made perfectly clear that SHE IS NOT DELICATE, PRETTY, OR POETICALLY ATTRACTIVE. Which is such an odd thing to appreciate but I'm just so tired of seeing so many books where fem protagonists are the subtly borderline MPDG mix of delicate sexy innocent and badass Mary Sue. Thank you so much Kristoff good move, keep it up, I really am glad that was written in because I feel like despite the fact we see sex and losing virginity as a parallel to death and killing for the first time (gorgeous gorgeous right up my alley) people will still manage to find a way to sexualize and idealize the mc because of its presence (despite the fact that it was literally so fucking painfully obvious, Pettit Mort and everything, but yk we Live In A Society).
"Its truth to say in all save solitude- and in some sad cases, even then- you can always count on the company of fools." -pg 18
Literally these footnotes give me life "You're a pretty thing*" "*A poet this one, and no mistake*" -pg 19
Tric is so babygirl from the moment I met him I think I decided I love him he's just so babygirl so so babygirl I love him must be protected at all costs
"A burst of profanity so colorful you could fling it into the air and call it a rainbow" -pg 48. In this house we forever stan characters that cuss like sailors, if it's not R just because of the language then I don't want it
The whole Cunt vs Cock dialogue just makes me love Mia so so so much like yes girl you're so right I agree with everything. And you are so Cunty!!! Cunt it up in here girl!! I don't blame Tric for falling head over heels at all me too! Too cunt to not fall!

just finished reading the first book of The Nevernight Chronicle and WTF????? How exactly I was not informed of the freaking masterpiece this book is???? I’ve already ordered the other two and if everything goes to plan, by the end of next week I’ll finish them also so i can properly crush all over Mia Corvere, because she deserves it all
Also, Jay Kristoff gifted us with the truer quote ever wrote in human history: "Too many books. Too few centuries". ISN'T IT THE FUCKING TRUTH

MIA CORVERE, a girl with a story to tell
First of all, ohmygod I absolutely love her.
Second, I’ve only made it through Nevernight so far, but I have to say this is one of the best written vengeance stories I have ever read.
Third, I was very, very anxious about trying to capture her badassery, beauty and sensual, crooked bangs. I hope I’ve done right by you, Jay.
...meow...
Iron or glass? they'd ask. She was neither. She was steel.
Part II
Part III

Reading the first Nevernight book, in a single chapter I went from cheering that my lesbian/bi otp kissed for the second time (and insulting the protagonist badly for still thinking about the guy she basically dumped) to being in a constant state of "what the fuck is going on".
I got my otp, but at what cost.

Is there anyone on this platform with whom I can talk about the Nevernight series? Or are y'all silenced under the dictatorship of cancel culture?

He swallowed thick, “Are you accursed?”
“I am a daughter of the dark the between the stars,” she replied. “I am the thought that wakes the bastards of the world sweating in the night. I am the vengeance of every orphaned daughter, every murdered mother, every bastard son.” She leaned forward and looked the man in the eye.
“I am the war you cannot win.”
