#ThrillerLiveCloses #ApprovedByMJon2009
“Right now our world has been turned upside down, with a pandemic that is changing our way of life. It is affecting us all, financially, emotionally and socially. For me it has resulted in THRILLER LIVE closing prematurely (and permanently) in the West End, as all theatres around the country have been shut, in the public’s best interest. Myself and the rest of the team totally understand and respect that we must all practice social distancing, working together to beat this virus. But yesterday was a very sad day as I joined the cast, crew and other creatives at the Lyric Theatre for one last time. We wanted to come together to say goodbye to each other at the theatre that had become our home for the past 11-years. Ironically we were just two more performances away from becoming the 11th longest ever running show in the West End. Still to be 12th, and the longest ever running show at the Lyric Theatre is an incredible achievement. Another thing the coronavirus has shown us is that we never know what is around the corner and we shouldn’t take what we have for granted. Through hard times, we get to see what matters most and what we really need to value.
One of our cast members said that leaving the Lyric Theatre was like losing a loving partner. And that is partly true, in that sometimes you don’t appreciate what you have until it is gone. But I am sure that each and every one of the Thriller Live cast and crew will go on to great new ventures, just as previous associates have. It’s been an INCREDIBLE journey which has formed great friendships, partnerships and even relationships with babies to boot! For me it seems that things have gone full circle. For it was 30 years ago today (20th March 1990) when I first met the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and he inspired me to see a world of endless possibilities. He showed me humility, kindness and a laughter like I’d never heard before.
We were at Record One Studios where he was free and at his creative best, producing the ‘Dangerous’ album. Watching a genius at work, who since the age of 5 had been perfecting his craft to become the world’s greatest ever entertainer was a true privilege. And then came an invitation to lunch at Neverland. That was the most memorable weekend ever. I’d never seen a landscape and home so beautiful. A place where Michael could dream peacefully, and one could lose themselves in magical abandonment. Which I did playing on the arcades, riding on the funfair and watching movies in the theatre. Just before I left, as I walked out the oak door, Michael said come back anytime. And I did, at least once a year - return to Neverland, as did many lucky fans, and various charitable organisations that Michael opened his doors for, because he loved to give, help and see others happy. That was the Michael Jackson I knew - a humble, innocent soul, who also happened to be one of the greatest artists of all time. There are many, many other stories that I have shared over the years, and fans and friends will know. Each one of them still as colourful in my mind now as it was when I first lived them. I thank Michael for those memories, and even though he is gone, it has never felt like a goodbye.
From all of us at “Thriller Live”, we want to Thank everyone who came to see the Show in the West End. We are Grateful that we could keep Michael’s Legacy and Music alive through the production and cá look forward to continuing touring the world in years to come. Now here follows a long, long list of thanks to just a few of the many people who made the show possible in the West End. There has been literally hundreds of people involved on and off the stage, so apologies that I can’t list everyone, but each of you are just as important in making this show a special part of West End history ! Producers Paul Walden & Derek Nicol, Mark Strange – General Manager, Ginette Sinnott – Head of Marketing, and everyone else at Flying Music (past and present) – thank you for believing in the show and all you have done to make it a worldwide success.
•Gary Lloyd our amazing Director & Choreographer. I could write a book about his character and talent, so please go read his own ! John Maher our meticulous Musical Director extraordinaire. • Every single band member past and present including Damien Cooper, Oliver Latka, Ryan Alex Farmery, Adam Kovacs and Mike Bradley - the greatest compliment you can pay these guys, is that some audience members still ask if the show is ‘live’. Yes! Applause when screen goes back and our musicians are revealed ! • Yasmin Yazdi, Jo Dyce, Rose Wild and Aisling Duffy – our fierce Resident Directors and Assistant Choreographers whom over the years have put hundreds of cast members through their paces. • Sharon Speirs and Caroline Stroud, our two long running and outstanding Company Managers over the past 11-years. And thank you to others who stepped in. • Nigel Catmur – Lighting Designer, Chris Whybrow – Sound Designer, Jonathan Park – Set Designer, Rob Jones and Catherine Teatum – Costume Designers – thank you for making this show look and sound so great ! • Our hard-working crew – Dawn Harvey, Paul Bond, Glenn Jenkins, Sophie Kemp, Kelvin White, Bill Dimeo, Matthew Giles, Alice Johson, Sara Markwick, Gemma Tucker, Melissa Cooke, Karli Can Heerden, Inca Jaackson, Rosie Woods and Jo Conlon – thank you for being there every day and making the show possible. • Not forgetting dozens of former crew members from Becky Potts and Jessica Plews to Craig and Kate Garratt and many, many more. • A big shout out to Haydon Eshun and John Moabi, our longest running West End cast members. These two guys are stage legends, whose performances did Michael proud every single night. • Respect to Kevin Wilson PR for keeping our name up in lights and doing it always with the utmost enthusiasm. • Thank you to Debbie O'Brien Casting – the talent we have seen over the years has been incredible including Zoe Birkett, Hayley Evetts, Maria Lawson, Samantha Johnson Carter, Cleopatra Madonna, Britt Quentin, Alex Buchanan, Jerome Singer, Trenyce Cobbins, David Jordan, MiG Ayesa and so many more outstanding vocalists ! • We have also been blessed with hundreds of amazing dancers since 2006 and through to the end of this West End run. They, with the singers and musicians are the life blood of the show, which relies, not on massive production, but pure heart and soul to deliver the energy, authenticity and chemistry that was part of Michael Jackson. • Thank you Nica Burns at Nimax for giving us a home for 11-years, and all the staff at the Lyric Theatre for looking after us, and over 2 million audience members throughout the years. • Massive appreciation to Kerys Nathan, our original Director & Choreographer from 2006-2008. You’ll always be a part of the show. • Thank you to every single cast member from the original West End cast featuring Ben Forster, Roger Wright, Denise Pearson, Ricko Baird, Kieran Alleyne, Layton Williams (OFFICIAL), Sterling Williams, Lewis Davies, Kamilah Beckles, Christabelle Field, Elliot James, Earl Perkins, Emily Rumbles, Dannielle Rothman, Sean Williams, Ashton Russell, Ross Sands and Jordan Darrell, to our last with – Wayne Anthony-Cole, Vivienne Ekwulugo, David Julien, Miles Anthony, Florivaldo Mossi, Lauren Gore, Filippo Coffano, Leslie Garcia Brown, Deavion Brown, David Devyne, Mitchell Eley, Ike Fallon, Eliza Hart, Gabriela Hernandez, Amelia-Annie Layng, Arnold Mabhena, Rishard-Kyro Nelson, Oskarina O'Sullivan , Shola B Riley, Triple Calz, Cannon Hay, Isaiah Mason, Ishaan Raithatha and Messiah Unusudimi. • To everyone on our suspended touring production, and all those before which has seen us visit over 34 different countries, thank you, thank you and thank you again. We will see each other hopefully soon as we continue this journey. Until then stay safe, and don't eat too many pies, there is only one costume budget. •Apologies too many not named above, some whom I greatly admire and some whom I am proud to now call friends, you are all in my thoughts.
Lastly, and most importantly – thank you to MICHAEL JACKSON ! “THRILLER LIVE” is your Music, your Artistry and your Magic ! Thank you for your Inspiration , Love and Humanity . 🙏🏼
Dreams do come true — Adrian Grant .

MUSIC IS PART OF MY DNA
In this edition of WAALM Tribune, we introduce you to Alexis Gerred, a singer/stage performer of excellence from London, UK.
WT: What made you enter the world of music, how everything started?
AG: I've always been a huge music fan - I had to be. My parents lived and breathed the music of Queen and Rod Stewart. However, due to peer pressure at school, I never expressed an interest in performing. Not even to myself. I hadn't even sung into a hairbrush as I was just too shy and afraid to be mocked. Then one night I was taken to see the musical ‘We Will Rock You’ in London, where a guy called Mig Ayesa looked and sounded so freaking cool singing the music of my Dad's Hero's as he played the lead role with such confidence. That was it... I wanted to do the same.
WT: What is music and singing to you?
AG: It's just apart of my DNA, my day-to-day makeup I feel more comfortable performing than anything else. It's an expression of emotion for me. Whatever mood I'm feeling... singing will release the tension and performing will drag me back up from the lowest of lows.
WT: Who are your musical influencers?
AG: I really appreciate singers that have powerful and immediately recognisable voices. Obviously, Freddie Mercury and Rod Stewart fall into that category. However, I'm also a huge fan of Steven Tyler, Bryan Adams, Michael Jackson, Paul Rogers... there are so many, but they all come under the same bracket of irreplaceable.
In the last few years a band called ‘The Struts’ have steamrolled over my musical taste. They really capture all the essences of my musical hero's and wrap them up in one band.
WT: You have recently recorded a single, titled: 'Roads Ahead', your first international collaboration with the famous Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about this project - how did you connect with the song, and how did it relate to you and your life?
AG: I instantly had a connection with ‘Roads Ahead’, not just with the great melody and the energetic groove of the song, but with the lyrics as well. Singing it actually acted as a sort of therapy for me... “take the good memories, leave the rest behind, no worries” – and look to the future with hope and excitement. It's an important message, and I'm extremely grateful to have been trusted with this Mosi Dorbayani's song. 'Roads Ahead' is schaduled for Nov. 5th and I can't wait to share it with the world.
youtube
WT: Artistically, where would you like to see yourself in five year's time?
AG: I try not to worry about what the future holds as I'm too occupied with what's happening now. I tend to live somewhat chaotically with many irons in the fire but as long as I'm still performing and singing, I'll be happy and grateful. I'm currently writing another album ready for release in 2022 and if I can continue creating music that people enjoy, then that's what I shall do.
WT: For those who wish to follow your activities and career, what's in the pipeline and what are your official pages?
AG: The main platform I use to communicate and promote is Instagram and you can find me at @alexisgerred. However, if you’re looking for my music, then my Spotify artist page is for you to follow:

Air Supply’s All Out of Love is Now A Musical
We’ll all grown up hearing the songs of Air Supply being played on the radio or on television shows, but Filipinos can now experience their timeless music in a totally different way as All Out Of Love: The Musical happens at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila this October.
The musical held its world premiere in Manila on October 18, 2018 and is on a limited run only until the end of the month. Filipino-Australian singer MiG Ayesa and Rachel Alejandro have given life to their on-stage characters Jamie Crimson and Rayne so we could all hear our favorite Air Supply songs interpreted into an all-original story. I was invited by Resorts World Manila to attend the Gala performance last October 20 and I was excited to be back at this integrated resort which I have always considered a second home.
Welcoming me back at the Newport Performing Arts Theater were Resorts World Manila’s Kristine Mae Bernardo and Archie Nicasio. While Air Supply ruled the airwaves during the ‘80s, today’s generation of Filipino audiences are still familiar with their songs. “All Out of Love” was even used in big movie blockbusters such as Deadpool 2 (2018) and The Perks of Being a Wallfower (2012), as well as in numerous TV shows.
I just love my SVIP seats so I could really watch the action and see every glorious detail and emotion from the actors and singers. Watching a musical is really different from just watching a concert or a movie because you can really see and feel how they deliver their lines. All Out Of Love: The Musical comes with an all-Filipino cast which is a testament to the musical skills and talents of the Filipinos.
The cast is led by MiG Ayesa, Rachel Alejandro, Tanya Manalang, Raymund Concepcion, and Jamie Wilson. Integrating all the right elements for All Out Of Love: The Musical results in a feel-good Rom-com story that Filipino audiences can truly appreciate. Jamie Crimson is the world’s biggest solo artist and he’s about to launch his newest album and start on a world tour, but he is about to throw it all away over a broken heart. His producer’s daughter, Stacie, is not about to let this happen so they go on a whirlwind adventure one fateful night in New York City to search for his lost love.
Filipino record artist, performer, host, and entrepreneur Rachel Alejandro gives her own charming and sexy performance as Rayne, who manages to go toe to toe with MiG Ayesa’s soulful renditions of these Air Supply classics. All of the band’s greatest hits are featured in the musical, so big fans will surely be delighted.
And as to why the musical’s world premiere was held in the Philippines, Musical Management Asia Pacific producers Naomi Toohey and Dale Harrison said they chose the country because of how Filipinos love Air Supply. This is quite obvious given how the band continues to perform concerts in the country almost every year. The Philippines is definitely the right jump-off point for global performances. Russell Hitchcock from Air Supply also said recently that he couldn’t imagine it starting anywhere else.
The entire story is a combination of love, comedy, and playful adventure all blending beautifully into one harmonious musical, held together by the timeless classics from Air Supply. The songs themselves are given a little bit of a modern edge, despite the storyline happening in the 80s, but everyone will definitely remember the good ol’ days when problems can be easily solved with a little song and dance number.
With its funny kilig and hugot moments, the musical is poised to be a smash hit success. Tickets to All Out Of Love: The Musical are available at the RWM Box Office and TicketWorld outlets. Visit www.rwmanila.com or download the RWM Mobile App for the complete show schedules. The musical runs only until October 28 so this is your last chance to watch it here in Manila!

LIFE ON MARS de David Bowie
Life On Mars?de David Bowie, est une chanson de l'album Hunky Dory sorti en 1971. Ce titre rencontra un tel succès qu'il sortira également en single en 1973 (single dont la face B est un titre repris par Nirvana lors de leur unplugged « The Man Who Sold The World »).

POSTPONED: Gone Too Soon - The Gents
POSTPONED: Gone Too Soon (From left to right: John Tsenoli, Connell Cruise, MiG Ayesa and Kurt Herman)
Executive Producer, Collett Dawson writes: Gone Too Soon – The Gents, paying tribute to the music icons we’ve lost before our time, scheduled for May at The Lyric Theatre, has been postponed.
After very careful consideration, I, Collett Dawson, as the Executive Producer of Gone Too Soon – The Gents, scheduled to be on stage at The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City from 4-6 May 2017, have needed to make the tough decision to postpone the show.
Over the past weeks, a number of logistic challenges have arisen and as we move ever closer to show time, rather than compromise on the quality of the show, I have made the difficult decision that it would be best to postpone the show for the time being.
This decision was not made lightly as this show is a labour of love for me, for many reasons.
Quality is so important in all The CoLab Network projects and shows, therefore I am postponing the show, and “taking a breath” to re-assess.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank every person who welcomed the concept of this show into their hearts, for the fabulous support received thus far, and I will endeavour to let you know the minute new dates have been confirmed.
Computicket will be in contact with all those who have already purchased tickets to arrange a full refund.
While this is something I never wanted to do as a producer, I do believe it’s the right path to take and that it’s in the best interest of the show I wish to stage.
Thank you for your understanding. And please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused as a result of this cancellation.
Sincerely,
Collett Dawson Owner – The CoLab Network Executive Producer – Gone Too Soon
POSTPONED: Gone Too Soon – The Gents was originally published on Artsvark

Added to this his countless lead roles on the West End and Broadway and other international stages including amongst many others, We Will Rock You, Rock of Ages, Thriller Live, Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story, RENT, The Bridges of Madison Country, The Music of Queen : The Rock and Symphonic Spectacular and Tenors of Rock, makes him the ideal headliner for Gone Too Soon.
He has a close affinity with South Africa, last being here ten years ago when he joined the South African cast for rehearsals of the International Tour of We Will Rock You, and has long since had a desire for returning to perform here. Says Ayesa; “I am beyond thrilled to be heading back to South Africa to perform in South Africa for the first time. Ever since I started rehearsals with the super talented cast of the International Tour of WE WILL ROCK YOU in Joburg in 2007, I swore to myself I would come back.”
He continues; “To have been able to come back to perform at Collett’s 25th Anniversary Show was a double celebration. I fulfill my promise of my return and also got the chance to celebrate the achievements of the sweetest person in showbiz, my beloved Collett Dawson. I cannot wait to share the stage in May with these incredible South African talents and to explore a little more of your spectacular country!”
MiG Ayesa will be joined on stage by the equally talented local voices of singer/songwriter, Connell Cruise, now based in New York but also returning to Johannesburg to perform in Gone Too Soon – The Gentswhile also releasing his brand new album, as well as Kurt Herman, instantly recognisable as a member of 101, winners of Coca Cola Popstars and more recently as one of the country’s foremost record producers. Continuing The CoLab Network’s commitment to showcase young talent wherever possible, Gone To Soon – The Gents will be introducing the smooth soulful sounds of 18-year old John Tsenoli, a Born To Perform prodigy who makes his professional theatre debut.
With the vibrant arrangements by the world-class creative team Bluberry Entertainment of Kurt Herman and Tima Reece and along with a dynamic live band led by Music Director Llewellyn George, audiences will thrill to instantly recognisable hits including Show Must Go On, Man in the Mirror, Hallelujah, What’s Going On, Unchained Melody, Mercy Mercy Me, Everything She Wants and many more.
Gone Too Soon – The Gents is the ultimate concert experience, honouring a selection of the many men who’ve made an indelible mark on the local and international music industry.
While the show pays homage to these music icons who have left us too soon, the focus will be strongly on the uplifting atmosphere of inspiration that they continue to live on through their music, the memories they still evoke in all of us, as well as the impact that so many of them have made on the industry and world as a whole.
Executive Producer, Collett Dawson of The CoLab Network states “With the company now celebrating 4 years of producing in South Africa and along with this being a tandem celebration of my 25 years in the entertainment industry, I wanted to extend my footprint further in the industry by fulfilling a new vision of bringing out a selection of phenomenal international artists that I have worked with previously, in a variety of shows to join and collaborate with our local talent. Through technology, the world is now so small that I feel it’s a wonderful next step to bring these collaborations together to not only provide a top-notch show here in South Africa and to give the local audiences an opportunity to enjoy their talents, but also to open doors for future collaborations for our local artists internationally through these shows.”
Dawson explains the reason for MiG Ayesa being the first of these international headliners; “I first met MiG in Hong Kong when I visited the South African cast of We Will Rock You there in 2008. He not only blew me away with his exceptional talent, but also the interaction he had with the South African performers and how much they were able to glean from his international stage experience. We have stayed in close contact since then, and was truly humbled at how quickly he came on board when I explained my vision of the cross-continent collaborations and my concept for Gone Too Soon. Already seeing the chemistry between MiG, Connell, Kurt and John as well as the Creative Team during the time in studio preparing for my 25th Anniversary Celebrations has proven to me that I’m totally on the right track, with the guys already talking about possible future collaborations after this show."
Dawson continues; "He has already also committed to giving back to the South African community by attending a rehearsal at National School of The Arts on Saturday 25 February and imparted some valuable words of wisdom to the young performers. When he returns to Johannesburg for the show in May he has also committed to giving a workshop to young industry hopefuls giving them first hand experiences of life in the industry and most especially, on the West End and on Broadway. I am thrilled and honoured to have him on board and hope that it’s the first of many return visits by him to South Africa.”
