at the age of three, the hernandez-martinez family relocated from their little home in monterrey, mexico to the big city of los angeles, california. the family wasn’t well-off by any means, living in a run-down apartment barely getting by. her mother, rosana, became the owner of mi vida bar which didn’t earn them enough income as they hoped. her father, alejandro, picked up landscaping on top of helping out with the new family business.

lucia was the youngest of two. the most spoiled child and notably the favorite, which caused a rift in the relationship with her sister, valeria. her formative years were spent enrolled in dance recitals and beauty pageants. with her love of putting on a show, her mother always believed she’d be a shining star. this slowly began the battle of basing her self-worth solely on her appearance.

tw dv; despite the toll these activities had on her mental health, she was grateful for the little moments she was able to escape from the chaos of her household. said chaos only halted when a neighbor from their apartment complex phoned the police during a heated brawl. her father was arrested at the scene and then kept after findings of multiple other criminal offenses. all contact was severed with her father after the incident. end of dv

dynamics soon changed in the hernandez-martinez residence. valeria later felt the need to take on the caretaker role, eventually picking up a job to help their mother with rent. however, lucia always lived in her own carefree little bubble, believing her social status meant more than lending a hand. in fact, her egocentric personality made her both loved and hated by many. she squeezed her way into the popular clique in high school. often, she’d skip classes to smoke or shop with the money she had stolen from her mother. education wasn’t her forte, made evident by her below-average grades. her mother began to instill the belief in lucia that she’d never amount to anything. telling her that she’d have to find a rich partner if she wanted to make it successful in life.

due to the girl’s nasty habit of stealing, her mother sent her on her way after graduation. somehow she was able to convince valeria to help her on her feet. in typical lucia fashion, she burned that bridge by racking up thousands in credit card debt under her sister’s name. once again, she’d been sent off to fend for herself, becoming somewhat of a drifter. she’d connect with people only to use them for their money and a place to stay. she’d bleed them dry, then rinse and repeat. lucia wasn’t necessarily proud of her behavior, but she’d pin the blame on her mother. she couldn’t stomach being at fault for her own actions.

her last ex-boyfriend, juniper, caught wind of her schemes fairly early in their only three-month-long relationship. yet again, she’d racked up thousands in credit card debt under someone else’s name. after his findings, he threatened to sue her unless she paid him back in full. to avoid the consequences of her actions, she took what little money she had left and fled across the country to sunny shores, florida.

♡ ━━ OTHER TIDBITS

believes herself to be an incredibly spiritual person. although she does not practice a certain religion, she has a belief in the universe and cosmic energies. typically, whenever she is undergoing a crisis, she prefers to find a local tarot card reader. if she feels her luck is particularly bad she reaches out to curanderos for spiritual cleansings.

she’s only worked one real job before making her move to florida. she was a bartender for almost two months at her mother’s bar. after showing up late numerous times or choosing not to show up to her shifts at all, she was promptly fired.

is super into fitness. she has a daily routine that consists of drinking a green juice, which is followed by her morning run. she also loves working out at the gym, even taking yoga classes whenever she can.

she is unsure of her stance on love. she loves the idea of committing to someone, but it also terrifies her. with no sense of who she truly is, she often morphs herself into whoever the person she's infatuated with wants her to be.

DUCKIE JONES, born as 'Noelle Duckstein', is a wonder of sorts. She's not a humble girl, and one of her favourite activities is looking at her own reflection. But she's not ashamed of it. She loved attention bring on her, she loved being loved. Noelle loved sparkly dresses that neckline's maybe just a bit too low down, always carried around a compact mirror and you would never catch her dead leaving the house without a full face of makeup; even if it was just to answer the door to a delivery. This all most likely stemmed from the fact her mother had put her into this lifestyle at a young age, her own mother being a burlesque performer and pageant queen. Noelle was born to a Mexican woman, Daphne, who grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and whitewashed herself as she grew to gain more opportunities. Noelle never really learnt about her culture. Noelle's dad was a rich man, some fancy lawyer who was an (in)famous criminal defense lawyer but ended up mysteriously dying leaving all his inheritance to Daphne and their only child. He was an all American man, who was born and bred in Brooklyn. Growing up, Noelle's mother entered her into beauty pageants presumably trying to push her daughter into her footsteps.

JUST BEFORE HER FATHER PASSED, the Ducksteins moved from Brooklyn to Miami. It was a rushed move but they ended up in a nice house. Noelle was not even a teenager when her dad passed, being a daddy's girl this death upset her deeply. Noelle and her mother never really got along, and she always had a feeling that Daphne was somewhat jealous of her daughter. There were a handful of heavy arguments but there would never be a conversation that went by that didn't have sly catty remarks made towards one another. As Noelle grew older and went up school years, she became more and more popular due to, not only her looks, but her natural ability to make people want to be her. She did have a handful of people who disliked her, mostly due to her romantic altercations, but she paid no mind to them. Noelle was a cheerleader in her high school, and loved performing and making up routines.

IT CAME AS NO SURPRISE WHEN NOELLE FOLLOWED HER IN MOTHER'S FOOTSTEPS. Her mother originally wanted her to just be married off to some rich man, and Noelle wasn't really opposed to the idea. But she was opposed to the idea that the 'rich man' was a guy who's personality and lifestyle was as dry as a slice of bread. She lived for rushes of adrenaline. Noelle became a popular performer at the 'Babylon Club' being a dancer and occasional singer. She quickly became a local's favourite. Her mother didn't exactly disapprove of Noelle's lifestyle, as it would be hypocritical, but she did believe Noelle could do better than being "some dancer in some club". But Noelle didn't care, she loved her job. But she did always want more. So what happens when the 'more' she was looking for stumbles into the club with a scar across his face?

Spanish-language Univision is becoming more MAGA-friendly despite Donald Trump's histrionic talk of vermin, concentration camps, and how immigrants are "poisoning the blood of our country".

The famous Trump Univision interview by Enrique Acevedo has some interesting backstory.

During the hour-long interview, Acevedo allowed the former president — who as recently as 2020 called Univision “a leftist propaganda machine” — to openly pander to Latinos' “entrepreneurial” spirit, and to threaten his political opponents by insinuating he would weaponize the Department of Justice against them if he is re-elected. This interview adds to concerns that the Spanish-language news giant – which in 2016 cut business ties with Trump and his Miss USA beauty pageant after his racist remarks against Mexicans – is shifting its stance on the former president. The Washington Post reported that “Trump is treating Univision and its new corporate owners like long-lost friends. He hosted a trio of its executives at Mar-a-Lago last week during an hour-long Univision interview that was notable for its gracious tone.” The report also indicated that TelevisaUnivision Mexico co-CEO Bernardo Gomez Martinez, who has a “long working relationship” with Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, was responsible for facilitating the sit-down.

Yep, you may have thought Jared had moved on from his working relationship with El Douché but he's still pulling strings for Trump.

[I]n the days that followed Trump’s interview with Acevedo, some network pundits made the case that Trump has “softened” on immigration in an effort “to repair his relationship” with Latinos – flying in the face of the network’s own reporting about his explicitly stated policies and stance on the issue. In the days that followed Trump’s interview, Univision regional and national prime-time shows like Al Punto California, Noticiero Univision, and Linea de Fuego have hosted numerous conservative pundits, including former personalities from Americano Media — the Trump-aligned Spanish-language network that ran out of money earlier this year — to defend the former president and argue that he is aiming for “a change in strategy” on Latinos and immigration.

Either those Univision pundits are living in an alternative reality or word came down from the patrón to go easy on El Douché.

Of course Univision's blatant pandering to a virulent racist and hatemonger is not going unchallenged.

The nation’s largest Spanish-language media company, Univision, faced growing backlash Friday for its handling of a recent interview with former president Donald Trump, as major Latino advocacy groups delivered a letter of protest to the network’s executives and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus prepared to request a meeting with the network. Actor and comedian John Leguizamo, who recently took a turn as host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” also posted a video on Instagram on Thursday night calling for a boycott of the network until it stopped its rejection of Biden ads, some of which were canceled just before the Trump interview aired. “I am asking all my brothers and sisters who are actors, artists, politicians, activists to not go on Univision,” he said in a message in English and Spanish. [ ... ] Joaquin Blaya, a former president of Univision who created its signature news show in the late 1980s, told The Washington Post in an interview this week that he worried the network had moved away from its founding mission. [ ... ] The Mexican media company Grupo Televisa, which has long had a close relationship with political power brokers in that country, recently merged with the owners of Univision to take joint control of the company. “This was Mexican-style news coverage, a repudiation of the concept of separation of business and news,” Blaya said of the Trump interview. “What I saw there was batting practice, someone dropping balls for him to hit out of the park. I think it was an embarrassment.”

What Trump tells MAGA-friendly interviewers from Univision is not what he is telling everybody else. And that interview was heavily edited to make him seem less unpalatable to the audience.

This is the same Trump who called Mexicans "drug dealers", "criminals", and "rapists" and never apologized for his insults nor took them back.

The View conducted a good journalistic dissection of the way the Univision interview took place.

born and raised in anaheim hills . your typical orange county girl with a love for the beach , afternoons spent at the mall , and working the word " like " into nearly every sentence that came out of her mouth . her father , cesar , moved to southern california as a teenager to live with his grandparents after his parents had a run with the mexican government . it was quite the life style change for him but he was a quick learner . by his mid - twenties cesar had one of the most high - end " around the world " restaurants in the country , the aristocrat . it wasn't long before he'd meet his wife , georgia , a journalist looking to do a story on his business . by the time the story was finished the two were engaged , the type to believe the mantra -- when you know , you know . once the happy couple welcomed there daughter into the world , the aristocrat had already become an international sensation with restaurants in over twenty different countries spanning all six inhabitable continents . to say drea grew up with a golden spoon , would be an understatement .

at an early age her mom put her in beauty pageants , anything that brought attention to her golden child , whether it be modelling , cheerleading , or pageants . although the later was what drea was drawn to , she had a knack for it . the catty behavior behind the scenes , the fake smiles and fooling the world into believing outer beauty reflected inner beauty : it was sick and twisted , but she got a rush from it all . highschool was unsurprisingly a breeze for her , top of the class at her all - girl private school , was it because she deserved the academic accolades or because she did more than just batting her lashes at unsuspecting teachers , that was something she'd take to the grave . come time for college applications she stayed true to herself and her high - standards only applying to the most prestigious schools . when early acceptance came from stanford ( vocally her top choice ) , she didn't wait to see what other schools would accept her and committed to their fall semester of that year . while at stanford she took on cheerleading , a way to get closer to the football players , she was shameless & also joined the model un , for no other reason but the fact it would look good for pageants .

graduating in 2011 , she truthfully wasn't sure what she wanted to do with her degree . the world her oyster , she decided not to tie herself down with a career just yet . instead traveling the world for the next year , until she found herself in australia for an extended period of time , being brought under the wing of a real estate mogul who got her started in the industry . with his help she closed some of the most lucrative deals a young agent could only dream of .

a few months into returning back to the states , her mother informed her she'd put in for her to go on abc's the bachelor . a point of contention for them , as drea had no interest in displaying an facet of her love life for the public while all her mother cared about was getting more eyes on her daughter . it was some sort of sick affinity to live vicariously through her daughter and it would soon become a catalyst to the downfall of their relationship . despite her lack of interest in the show or the man at the forefront , when producers offered her a spot on the cast , she took it . she may not have liked it but andrea alcantara was her mother's daughter through and through . quickly becoming a favorite on the show both by the audience and by the man of the hour . anyone who knew her personally knew she wasn't being herself on the show , portraying herself as a sweet california girl , despite being anything but that . she had a deep rooted competitive nature to her , she simply was not wired to lose anything . inevitably the bachelor proposes to her and in a shocking twist of events , she says no . they date for a months following the show before she seemingly leaves him in th dust popping up on tabloids with a partner at her side .

drea's miss universe run started in 2014 when she won miss california , followed by winning miss america the next year . the facade of the perfect woman on full display for the world to see . although her fellow contestants saw through the mask , verbally and emotionally abused by the california native their was never any proof and so it all was spun on tabloids in drea's favor as a group of catty women with a bad dose of jealously . once the 2016 miss universe crown was placed on her head all the years of pageants seemed worth it , she was happy to fulfill her duties for the next year and leave beauty pageants behind her . her mother not so fond of that idea , berating her to go on to miss world or miss international . this is around the time she cut ties with mother ( on really interacting with her during family functions ) .

in early 2018 the brokerage she worked for was approached by netflix , the producers seeing the opportunity to showcase the vivacious and cutthroat personalities some of the top selling real estate agents around . filming started soon after and when season one of selling sunset came out an entirely new light had been shed on her . called out by the public for being fake and cruel after years of portraying herself as something entirely different to the public . after a few seasons the outrage seemed to die down , after all , she was good tv and better yet damn good at her job . the top selling agent in the firm for the last four seasons . she's currently in talks with the heads of the firm and producers of the show to take over the international branch of the firm and potentially get her own spin - off show .

known professionally as Laura Harring, is an American actress and beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss USA 1985 and later began acting in television and film. She is best known for her dual roles as Rita and Camilla Rhodes in the 2001 movie Mulholland Drive. She is also known for her roles in other movies, including The Forbidden Dance (1990), John Q (2002), Willard (2003), The Punisher (2004), The King (2005), Love in the Time of Cholera (2007), Ghost Son (2007), The Caller (2008), Drool (2009), Sex Ed (2014), and Inside (2016). Harring won Miss El Paso USA, Miss Texas USA, then Miss USA 1985 becoming the first Hispanic woman to do so.
