A comprehensive Introduction to Fiber Optic Adaptor
The fiber optic adapter plays a crucial role in the fiber optic system. It provides a great solution to meet the growing demand for small form factors and high-density fiber optic connectivity. This article will give an in-depth introduction to fiber optic adapters.
What is Fiber Optic Adaptor?
A fiber optic adapter (also called a fiber optic coupler) is a small device to connect fiber optic cables or fiber optic connectors together. By linking two connectors precisely, fiber optic adapters allow the light sources to be transmitted at most and lower the loss as much as possible.
Fiber Optic Adaptor Types
The common types of fiber optic adapters are LC, SC, FC, ST, E2000, MTP/MPO, and bare fiber adapters.
LC Adapter
LC adapter is used for the connection of LC patch cables or LC connectors. LC adapter types are LC to LC, LC to FC, LC to SC, LC to ST, LC to MU, etc. All these adapters can be available in simplex, duplex, quad, single-mode (SM), multi-mode (MM), UPC, APC, and PC with plastic housing, zirconia sleeve, and optional bronze sleeve.
SC Adapter
SC adapter is used for the connection of SC patch cables or SC connectors. SC adapter types include SM, MM, zirconia sleeve, bronze sleeve, simplex, duplex, female-to-female SC, and hybrid SC adapters. Typical, SC adapters are with plastic housing and metal housing. Most of these adapters come with ceramic sleeves and bronze sleeve SC adapters which are generally MM types.
FC Adapter
FC adapter is used for the connection of FC patch cables or FC connectors. FC adapters include square type, single D type, and double D types, in SM and MM versions. All these adapters are with metal housing and ceramic sleeves. The FC square adapter is available in standard body styles with nickel-plated brass or nickel-plated zinc housing. FC round adapters have a D or double D Flange version and feature nickel-plated brass housing for corrosion resistance.
ST Adapter
ST adapter is used for the connection of ST patch cables or ST connectors. ST adapter types are simplex, duplex, SM, MM, metal, and plastic adapters. Most ST adapters are simplex with zirconia sleeves, and optional bronze sleeve adapters are available for MM.
E2000 Adapter
E2000 adapter is used for the connection of E2000 patch cables or E2000 connectors. E2000 adapters are SM and MM, which are in UPC and APC polish types. The E2000 adapters are with zirconia sleeves and in simplex style.
MTP/MPO adapter
MTP/MPO adapter has two types key-up to key-down and key-up to key-up. It provides the connection between cable to cable or cable to equipment in the MTP/MPO style. It works for any MTP Connector from 4 fiber to 72 fiber.
Bare Fiber Adapter
A bare fiber adapter is used as the medium to link the bare fiber optic cable to fiber optic equipment. It has bare fiber inside on one side; the other side of the adapter is a fiber connector that can plug into the equipment.
Features and Benefits
Fiber optic adapters provide high reliability, high stability, high return loss, high precision alignment, low insertion loss, good interchangeability, reproducibility, ease to use, and low cost.
Applications
Fiber optic adapter is used in communication equipment rooms, FTTH, local area networks (LAN), metro area networks (MAN), data centers, fiber optic communication systems, fiber optic access networks, telecommunications, testing equipment, CATV , etc.
Conclusion
A fiber optic adapter is used to join two fiber optic connectors with precise positioning by the ceramic or bronze sleeve to achieve low insertion loss, high return loss, and high reliability. Sun Telecom provides a wide variety of Fiber optic adapters. Contact us if you have any needs.

Are 100G Optical Transceivers Outdated?
1. Introduction of optical transceiver
Optical module is a device for converting optical and electrical signals in optical communication system. Its basic structure includes: laser (TOSA) + driver circuit, detector (ROSA) + receiver circuit, multiplexer (MUX), demultiplexer (DEMUX), interface, auxiliary circuit and housing, etc. According to the application of different scenarios, different kinds of optical modules are derived. The specific scenarios are: inside data center, data center interconnection, metro network, core network, 5G Fronthaul, etc. Further classification can be obtained by elements such as package form, transmission rate, single-mode and multi-mode, plugging mode, operating temperature, and whether digital diagnostics are available.
Structure diagram of 100G optical module
Driven by technology upgrade, cost reduction and other factors, optical modules continue to be "high-speed, miniaturized and integrated". QSFP (Four Channel SFP Interface) series is increasingly popular in the market because of its high-speed, high-density, hot-pluggable and other characteristics. It is the main packaging form of data communication optical module. For 100G optical modules, CFP vs QSFP28, SR/LR mainly adopts QSFP28 package, while ER mostly adopts CFP4 package.
2. The standards of optical transceiver
The transmission distance of optical module is divided into short range (2km and below), medium range (2 - 40km), and long range (40km and above); at present, the short and medium range occupies the main market share in data communication optical module. There are two key standard organizations for optical modules, IEEE and MSA (Multi Source Agreement), which complement and learn from each other. The standards beginning with 100G are proposed by IEEE802.3. The following are the naming rules:
As shown in the figure, for example, in the name of 100GBASE-LR4, “LR” means long rage, i.e. 10Km, and “4” means four channels, i.e. 4*25G, combined together as a 100G optical module that can transmit 10Km. Since the introduction of 100G networks, IEEE, the Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) industry consortium and other organizations have developed several standards for 100G optical modules. Taking 100G optical modules as an example, IEEE has defined standards such as 100GBASE-SR4, 100GBASE-LR4, 100GBASE-SR10, etc. Multi-Source Protocol (MSA) has 100G PSM4, 100G QSFP28 ER4, 100G CLR4, 100G SWDM4, etc. Among the many standards, the PSM4 and CWDM4 standards developed by the Multi-Source Protocol (MSA) industry group are more suitable for the mainstream 100G QSFP28 optical modules in the market today.
3. IDC market and 100G optical module demand
Like a raging fire in the past few years, the concept of Internet + , Big Data and Cloud Computing has been booming. The IDC business revenue has been increasing continuously. At present, the optical module market is developing rapidly, and 100G optical modules applied in data centers are in short supply. 100G SR4 and 100G LR4 are the most commonly used 100G interface specifications defined by IEEE. However, for the internal interconnection scenario of large data centers, the distance supported by 100G SR4 is too short to meet all interconnection requirements, and the cost of 100G LR4 is too high. MSA has brought medium distance interconnection solutions to the market. PSM4 and CWDM4 are the products of this revolution.
DCN Connectivity Evolution example of large Internet company
CWDM4 vs. LR4
The 100G CWDM4 standard is designed for data center deployment of 2km 100G links, and the 100G CWDM4 optical module interface conforms to the duplex single-mode 2km 100G optical interface specification and can reach a transmission distance of 2km. 100G QSFP28 series optical modules are currently the most widely used in data centers. The 100GBASE LR4 capability fully covers CWDM4, but in the 2km transmission scenario, the CWDM4 solution is lower cost and more competitive. LR4 and CWDM4 are similar in principle in that they both multiplex four parallel 25G channels onto a single 100G fiber link via the optical device MUX as well as DEMUX. However, there are several differences between the two:
·LR4 uses more expensive optical MUX/DEMUX devices;
·LR4 uses a more expensive laser and consumes more power;
·LR4 requires an additional TEC (semiconductor thermoelectric cooler).
Based on the above three points, the optical module cost of 100G BASE LR4 standard is higher, so the 100G CWDM4 standard proposed by MSA is a good supplement to the gap caused by the high cost of 100G BASE LR4 within 2km.
PSM4 vs. CWDM4
In addition to CWDM4, PSM4 is also a medium distance transmission solution, so what are the advantages and disadvantages of PSM4 compared to CWDM4? The 100G PSM4 optical module is a single-mode parallel four-channel optical module, mainly suitable for 500m applications. The 100G PSM4 specification defines a point-to-point 100 Gbps link with eight single-mode fibers (four transmit and four receive), with each channel transmitting at 25 Gbps. Four identical wavelength and independent channels are used in each signal direction. Therefore, these two types of transceivers typically communicate over an 8-fiber MTP/MPO single-mode patch cable, and the QSFP28 PSM4 transmission distance is a maximum of 500m.
4. Summary
With the rapid development of data communication and telecommunication transmission technology, the information capacity of optical network increases sharply. The optical module with high bandwidth is a research and production hotspot in the field of optical communication. QSFP28 100G modules are not enough for meeting the current requirements. At present, China is in the historical opportunity period from 100G to 400G optical network. The advent of 5G era will bring tens of millions of optical modules. The optical module market will have a market share of more than 30 billion in the next few years.
At present, the application of data center is in the period of rapid development of 100G optical module. In 2010, 100G optical communication technology standard has been adopted in ITU-T (ITU), IEEE and OIF. The three standards organizations have successively stipulated 100G technical standards for 100G line side, user side and interworking. Subsequently, with the wide attention and promotion of global operators, all links of the industrial chain (optical modules, optical transmission equipment, router equipment and test instruments) have rapidly promoted the commercialization process of 100G.

Hello am I late for trick-or-treat?
Not at all my friend! You and Pingu can both have a clip from a WIP I have temporarily called ‘Childhood Yiga Link AU’ where Link is raised in the Yiga clan… until he finds the master sword, and everything falls apart. Below the cut :D
Link steadied his breathing, thanking all three goddesses that his clothes promoted stealth.
If he had known what the sword was, he never would have touched it.
He hadn’t expected his clan to be so upset. Yes, he was the ancient hero, but he was still their Link. Now Master Kogha himself hated him. Him specifically! He had always wanted Master Kogha to know about him. He hadn’t wanted this.
Link wished he wasn’t the ancient hero reincarnated. He had been raised to hate him, to strive to prevent his reincarnation no matter the cost. He was proud to be part of the Yiga Clan, and they were proud to have him. And now to know that not only had they failed their task, but they had raised said ancient hero!
When he had discovered he was that Link, he had felt sick. He threw up banana-filled vomit onto the floor of the hideout and swore he would never thwart Calamity Ganon, no matter what propaganda the royal family tried to feed him. He was loyal, and he would always stay true to his family and beliefs.
But the clan clearly didn’t believe him. That was the most devastating part. He had been part of the Yiga clan since they found him as a toddler. They had fed him and clothed him, kept him safe, comforted him when he had nightmares about the evil princess. And now they were out to get him.
He took a deep breath, silently. He knew the hideout like the back of his hand—the hand on which the triangle had appeared that morning.

Se cumple la profecía de INnovando Pte. 2: Rouge lips, big hair, pretty shoes and I was done!
‘Preparing Humanity For Accelerating Technological Change’
Si eres curioso y no la has leído, léela aquí.
Truth be told, I’m scared.
MTP = Massive, transformative, purpose.
That’s all, folks!
INnovando Pte. 3 Día 3 5 de abril, tercer y último día de OPENMIND 2017. Deborah Birx: Social Distancing Guidelines to Continue ‘Through the Summer’
While many Americans are hopeful things will go back to normal by summertime, one leading health expert is not so sure the nation will be out of the woods by then.
Dr. Deborah Birx, leading health expert and member of the coronavirus task force, believes social distancing guidelines will be with the nation through the summer.
“Social distancing will be with us through the summer to really ensure that we protect one another as we move through these phases,” Birx said.
Watch her comments below:
WATCH: Vice President Mike Pence said COVID-19 will be largely “behind us” by Memorial Day. #MTP #IfItsSunday Dr. Birx: “Social distancing will be with us through the summer to really ensure that we protect one another.” pic.twitter.com/PvxDMXtMwG
— Meet the Press (@MeetThePress) April 26, 2020
NBC’s Chuck Todd asked Birx if Vice President Mike Pence’s belief “by Memorial Day weekend we will largely have the coronavirus pandemic behind us” is realistic.
She explained he was most likely basing his assertion on the models and data tracking every single outbreak of the coronavirus in the United States separately.
Birx pointed to places including Louisiana, Houston, and Detroit, as examples of how they have reached their peaks and have since come down.
She noted these examples give health experts hope when looking at Boston, Chicago, and the New York metro area.
New York has become the epicenter of the coronavirus. As of Sunday afternoon, the state is reporting over 282,000 coronavirus cases and more than 16,000 deaths.
As health experts continue to search for a treatment for the coronavirus, Birx recently defended President Donald Trump’s remarks on using disinfectant injections as a potential solution, as IJR previously reported.
“When he gets new information, he likes to talk that through out loud and really have that dialogue,” Birx said.
She added, “And so that’s what dialogue he was having. I think he just saw the information at the time, immediately before the press conference, and he was still digesting that information.”
As of Sunday afternoon, the United States has more than 941,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and over 54,000 deaths, according to reports.

Fauci told CNN's Jake Tapper that he's never seen an outbreak match the worst-case scenario of its models, and he believes that remains unlikely for the coronavirus, as well. Nevertheless, he thinks it's possible the U.S. could be looking at somewhere between 100,000 and 200,000 deaths. > Dr. Anthony Fauci says there could potentially be between 100,000 to 200,000 deaths related to the coronavirus and millions of cases. "I just don't think that we really need to make a projection when it's such a moving target, that you could so easily be wrong," he adds.
