bye bye bye - e.m.
y2k eddie munson x girly reader
opposites attract masterlist
warnings: gareth is a dickhead, hope y’all like some cheesy fluff, eddie is a complete dork but we love him for it.
a/n: this is a repost of my first y2k eddie fic, with some much needed edits and additions. i will be working on editing and posting the rest of this series soon. i hope you enjoy 💕
word count: 1.5k
Today really hadn’t gone how you’d planned.
You had been hanging out with Eddie and his band mates, something you’d done quite often. Only this time you made the mistake of wearing your *NSYNC tour shirt.
It wasn’t a secret that you and Eddie had polar opposite tastes, it was apparent by just looking at you. You were all pink, bubblegum and boy bands. And your boyfriend was a leather clad, heavy metal enthusiast.
Despite these differences, you fit so well together.
And as they say— opposites attract.
But one of his friends was always more standoffish towards you because of it. While you were always nice to Gareth, he seemed annoyed anytime Eddie brought you around. But today that annoyance had seemingly reached its peak.
And all over a stupid t-shirt.
Eddie had gone to get you both a drink, leaving you in the living room with the three other males. They were discussing the newest Linkin Park album. Which oddly enough, was a band you actually enjoyed outside your normal realm of music.
You perked up at the mention of the album, as it had been the only thing Eddie had been playing since it was released. Feeling eager to see what they also thought of it.
“Oh come on man, you can't say Meteora is better than Hybrid Theory,” Jeff scoffs, shaking his head in response to Gareth’s admission as Eddie leaves the room.
The male rolls his eyes before tossing a piece of popcorn at Jeff’s head, “See that’s where you’re wrong dude, have you tried listening to the albums back to back?”
You take this as an opportunity to add in your two cents, trying to include yourself in the conversation despite your nerves.
“Well, personally I think both albums are great in their own—”
You are interrupted with a loud snort as Gareth rudely cuts you off, glancing down at your shirt before meeting your eyes.
“Why would we care about your opinion of it? All you listen to is boy band trash pop,” he sneers, rolling his eyes as he turns back to his friends.
It felt like someone had punched you in the gut, any other words became lodged in your throat. Jeff and Grant throw apologetic glances your way, but continue on with the conversation as if nothing had happened.
Eddie returns shortly after, completely oblivious to what had just transpired. He plops down next to you on the sofa and passes you a can of coke. Due to your solemn appearance, he knew something was wrong. He just didn’t know what.
A frown tugs at the corner of his mouth as he wraps an arm around your waist, tucking you into his side.
“Hey, you okay?” He asks softly, replying with a shrug of your shoulders.
You let your eyes fall to the open can of soda clutched in your fist. You didn’t want to talk about it, especially not in front of them. The last thing you wanted was to cause a scene, or to give Gareth the satisfaction of seeing you cry.
So you sat quietly through the next half hour, letting Eddie enjoy the time with his friends.
But he couldn’t seem to let it go, far too focused on what had caused this sudden shift in your mood. So he ended the hangout early, claiming to be too tired from work. But all of you knew the real reason, guilt filled your chest as he walked you out to his van.
They must think you’re a buzzkill too.
The questions started the moment the door shut behind him, badgering you the entire way back to your house. You easily dodged his line of questioning, claiming to be tired. But Eddie wasn’t having any of that, he could see right through you. He always could.
“Baby, come on. Talk to me please,” he pleaded as he followed you up the stairs to your bedroom.
You continued to ignore him as you sat on the bed with a sigh. You felt embarrassed, knowing such a silly comment shouldn’t bother you as much as it did. All you wanted was for his friends to like you, but it was made abundantly clear that they didn’t.
All because you favored pop music? It all felt so trivial, like they weren’t even willing to give you a real chance. It hurt your feelings more than you cared to admit.
But Eddie being the sweet, doting boyfriend that he was— wasn’t giving up that easily.
“Just tell me what happened, sweetheart.” He says, kneeling in front of you, palms resting on either side of your thighs.
“It’s stupid,” you mutter, avoiding his curious gaze.
“Nothing that upset you this much is stupid,” he counters as you let out a groan, dramatically falling back onto the mattress and covering your face.
You hear his exasperated sigh, feeling the weight of his chest against yours as he leans over you. Eddie carefully removes your hands from your face, looking down at you expectantly.
“Your friends don’t like me,” you utter softly.
He frowns, confusion settling on his features.
“Why do you say that?”
You sigh, rolling your eyes which causes his frown to deepen.
“Well, just look at me…” you trail off, gesturing to yourself. “And look at you.”
It’s his turn to sigh now, taking your hands as he guides you back into a sitting position. Eddie cups your cheeks in between his palms, leaning forward to press a kiss to your forehead.
“I know what you’re insinuating, but I promise that’s the furthest thing from the truth.” He reassures you, his dark eyes utterly sincere.
And as much as you want to believe him, there’s still a small part of you that wonders if maybe they are right. Maybe you’re too different. He must be able to read the apprehension lingering on your features, as one of determination crosses over his.
“I don’t know what they said to make you think that,” he pauses to press a kiss to the tip of your nose. “But I won’t hesitate to kick some ass, sweetheart.”
Despite the teasing lithe in his voice you know he’s serious, quickly shaking your head. The last thing you’d want is to cause more beef with his friends.
“It’s fine, Eds, I’m just too sensitive.” You give him a quick peck on the lips, “Let’s just drop it, yeah?”
You pull away to scoot further up the mattress, patting the spot beside you. But he shakes his head, remaining on the floor for a moment. His eyes dart contemplatively around the room, stopping on the shelf that held your extension CD collection.
A Cheshire-like grin tugs at his lips as he moves towards it, balancing on the balls of his feet. Your brows knit together in confusion as his ringed fingers graze over the plastic spines, stopping once he finds what he was looking for. Eddie pops the disc out of its case and into the clunky boombox before pressing play.
The beginning chords of Bye Bye Bye fill the once quiet space of your bedroom. Your boyfriend quickly jumps to his feet, spinning around to face you. He plants his feet on the carpet, head falling forward as his hands raise up in a marionette style.
Your eyes widen in realization as you crawl back towards the edge of your bed, suddenly intrigued. Eddie shoots a wink your way once he meets your gaze, beginning to sing along. His voice stood out amongst the others, the raspy quality brought a new edge to the track.
But he didn’t stop there.
You watched in amazement as he nailed all the choreography from the music video. You had no idea when he found the time to study all the moves. Between classes, work, hellfire and band practice he barely had time to think.
But knowing he took the time to do this, specifically for you— made your stomach flutter.
You can’t stop the smile from lighting up your features, giggling as your boyfriend continues to serenade you.
“I don’t want to be your fool, in this game for two…”
Eddie drops to his knees at your feet again, coaxing you onto the floor with him. He presses feather light kisses all over your face, the sensation causes you to giggle more. As hurt as you had been, the male always knew how to make you forget your problems.
At least for a little while.
“That’s my girl,” he mumbled, grinning down at you.
He’s a little out of breath from his impromptu dance routine, bangs lightly sticking to his forehead.
“You’re an absolute dork, Ed,” you giggle, ruffling his curls in a playful manner.
But the way he’s looking at you has your heart racing. His head dips, capturing your lips in a gentle kiss as the song comes to an end.
“Now, admit it,” he chuckles against your mouth, nudging his nose with yours. “I’m a much better dancer than that Dustin Timberlake.”
You laugh loudly, fondly shaking your head at him.
“It’s Justin, baby…”

Hi, I love your art so much 😭💕 it's really lovely in that it gives the characters human qualities and it makes it way more realistic, it's like a refresher from idealistic portrayals of these characters (which I don't have a problem with at all but you get my point) I just love how human and real you make them seem and also your style is so so cute you have my heart pls marry me
Anyways
I was wondering what you think the wammy boys' relationship with music is? Like do you think they can sing, play instruments etc. Sorry if u already did something like this and I just frogot
HHH THANK YOU, I APPRECIATE YOU SO MUCH 💛💛💛😭
I can‘t imagine anyone of them playing an instrument or being good at singing. Near probably has no particular interest in music in general, so there's not much to tell about him. Matt and Mello are both terrible singers but that doesn‘t stop them from bawling songs at the top of their voices. I think they often sing in the car together to whatever is in the radio.
I also headcanon Mello and Matt listening to Linkin Park a lot. Meteora and Hybrid theory were running for weeks at a time at their place as background music for a while. And listen - they were 100% at a one of their concerts once.
At March 4th 2008, Linkin Park was on their "Minutes to Midnight World Tour“ and playing in Los Angeles at the staples center. Rather spontaneously, they decided to sneak their way in (of course, you don‘t really believe they do anything the legal way, do you...) while the concert was already at full swing but got caught. Out of spite, they spent the rest of the evening at a nearby KFC when they see the band walk in and Matt completely loses his shit. He even goes up to them and asks for an autograph and he comes back with his vest (THE VEST, the nasty one, you know which one) full of names and goes "I‘m never gonna wash this ever again!“ and Mello shouts through the whole diner "OH COME ON NOW REALLY?!“

Disc 3 of the Great CD Roadtrip is Linkin Park's Meteora! The one where I try to take stock of what CDs are even in this car by playing one for every tank of gas, instead of playing the same CD for 7 months straight.
I've been playing it since late August, and it's been the perfect accompaniment to doing things like drive to the airport at 2:30AM, or drive back from the airport after a redeye and the chemical enhancement of a singular green tea caffeine mint.
I was late to music--or music as a thing that wasn't my parents'. I missed the boat on the Spice Girls and Hanson and Avril Lavigne because I was not a cool kid. My introduction to music was via the radio on the school bus and the new girl from Texas in my seventh grade PE class, who burned me Green Day's full discography (her obsession) and both of Linkin Park's albums at the time. I fell in love with them.
Linkin Park puts on a fantastic concert--I had the pleasure of seeing them live twice. And I remember where I was when I read news of Chester Bennington's death--prepping to participate in a study on MCity, which is the University of Michigan's weird/cute/amazing little fake town driving circuit. I saw Mike Shinoda's solo tour in Detroit, too, and it will probably always be the most meaningful concert I've ever been to.
Anyway, it happens that last week, Linkin Park announced an end to their hiatus, a new album, and a new co-lead singer. Last Friday I was in the midst of listening to their announcement/concert recording and paused the video after "Numb" to drive to work. I get in my car and what starts playing on my CD? "Numb" again!! This was both exciting and embarrassing.
I got gas tonight, so I had to change to a new CD, but I wasn't ready to stop playing this one at all. I let myself have it for five more miles, from the gas station home. Until we meet again, Meteora. <3

Q and A interview with Will Ramos in Metal Hammer Magazine. Transcript under the cut.
ARE LORNA SHORE BRINGING DEATHCORE BACK?
Lorna Shore's growler-in-chief, Will Ramos, answers your questions on goblin screams, dream collabs and singing with a camera down his throat
SINCE WILL RAMOS joined Lorna Shore in 2021, the US deathcore band have been on a mission that's seen them leapfrog to the forefront of their scene. Will's mind-boggling vocal abilities have turbocharged them, and Hammer crowned last year's sprawling symphonic fourth record, Pain Remains, "the most essential deathcore album of the decade". Last summer, Will sang with a camera down his throat so we could all see what the hell was going on in there, but now, in his biggest challenge yet, he takes on your questions...
What's your favourite type of scream to do? - N4turalbornkll, Twitter
"They're called 'tunnel screams, like if you're going through a tunnel. But I like calling them 'goblin screams'. It's like two different tones going on at the same time. It sounds really cool."
What bands got you into metal? - Ben Ryan, Facebook
"Linkin Park was definitely one of them. Meteora... freaking Hybrid Theory! I listen to albums from my childhood all the time - I still love them and they still hold up; Bullet For My Valentine, Lamb Of God, AFI... I had a couple of friends that listened to metal that I used to play videogames with, and one of the bands they played me was AFI. One song, Affliction, was just straight-up screaming the entire song. I was like, This. Is. Crazy?' Then my friend said, 'Dude, here's a bunch of bands that you should check out?' It was Lamb Of God, Whitechapel, Linkin Park."
How long do you think you'll be able to maintain your iconic screaming voice? Ten years? Thirty? Forever - Nettels_, Twitter
"I haven't fallen off yet. I don't know. Hopefully forever, but every day I make a joke, I'm like, This is the one. This is going to be the last one, this is it!"
What other genres do you love? - Jordan Bonvicino, Facebook
"I don't listen to a lot of metal so much anymore. I was looking at my Spotify Wrapped from last year... It was ap, psychedelic rock, indie music, and metal was fourth. I love bands like [Japanese singer-songwriter] Joji. I love Mac Miller. I love Drake. And I love sad music, so stuff like (post-hardcore artist] Bilmuri. They're metal, but they're also very sing-y. And I like that because now that I've been doing so much screaming in my life, I want to get better at something that's not screaming - so, singing. That's the next tier for me right now."
Are Lorna Shore bringing deathcore back? - Ed Burns, email
“I don't know if we're 'bringing it back'. We're doing really good for ourselves, and I love that people are hopping onto the train. That's incredible. Ilove that it's inspiring other people to even do more metal music. I just do what I do and I can't think about what I'm doing. I still can't look at myself in the mirror and be like, 'That's one of the big guys."
Hammer: Who were 'the big guys' to you?
“The ones that inspired me were late Suicide Silence vocalist] Mitch Lucker, Phil Bozeman (Whitechapell and Trevor Strnad (late Black Dahlia Murder vocalist]."
Do you avoid certain foods before singing, and if so, which ones? - Matt Doherty, Facebook
"I'd say eat light foods - if you eat something crazy heavy, you're going to feel very tired. I have maybe a slice of pizza, but you won't see me eating five or six slices. Ilove ramen and ramen is something that I'd have all the time when I'm on tour just because it's spicy, so it clears your nasal passages and it's soup, so it's good for your stomach."
What's your favourite Lorna Shore breakdown? - Undeado8, Twitter
"I think it would be Hollow Sentence off Immortal (2020 album, featuring ex-vocalist C] McCreery]. If we're talking about the newer stuff, Sun//Eater is definitely my favourite breakdown. It's the hardest song in the set. We have a sample of a katana [samurai sword] coming out and slicing something open. This specific sound is the unsheathing of the sword. It's halfway in, where the breakdown gets even heavier, so I just imagine a moshpit of people with inflatable swords killing each other."
Would you ever re-record Immortal? - Corey Hunter, Facebook
"I have, and I'm doing it for myself. I made a Patreon, and I told myself, I'm going to start redoing all of the old Lorna Shore albums."
Hammer: Would the band ever re-release the older albums with you on vocals?
"As a band we wouldn't - we want to have forward momentum. Art is always going to get better as long as you don't go back and start fixing things. We're like, 'What's the next thing? I'll put out Immortal on my own, but that's it."
What is your favourite song on Pain Remains? - Alex Chiczewski, Facebook
"Pain Remains I: Dancing Like Flames. It's the saddest one. I told you, Ilove sad music! You get to a point where you listen to breakdowns so many times, you become a little numb to them. For me, the only thing that holds me onto music after the breakdowns, is how do I feel about it? It's not about the melody or the breakdown. It's hearing the lyrics and I feel what this person is feeling and that it feels real. That's why I love Pain Remains I - it's the most genuine."
What is your best advice for dealing with crippling depression? - Zare Ralf Karadzin, Facebook
"Distract myself. Everyone alwavs sees me as Labradoodle Will. That's great, but I'm just like everybody out there and everybody gets sad sometimes. I dealt with depression a lot when I was a little kid, and if there's anything that's helped me, it was trying to distract myself with things Ilike to do, whether it be screaming or my little RC (remote control] cars, or playing Minecraft. Take everything day by day... conquer this day. Then you know tomorrow is another day, and you beat that day. Eventually you start putting yourself in the cycle where you'll have more good days than you have bad days."
What bands would you like to collab with in the future? - Notabumbleb88, Twitter
"Id love to collaborate with Sleep Token. They're my favourite freaking band right now. They are so incredibly good; Vessel and I have very similar singing ranges, too. Also, I Declare War, because they're just so incredibly heavy... In Flames... and Ilove Oceano - their vocalist Adam Warren is so good."
Hammer: What do you think a Sleep Token/Lorna Shore collab would sound like?
"It’d be insane. I don't know if our fans would love it, but I would. Let's go!"
What does it mean to you to be the Latino/Hispanic representation of deathcore and heavy music in general? - Shaun Fontanez, Facebook
“It's incredibly stressful. I don't speak Spanish, so a lot of Hispanic people will come up to me just like, 'Yo, dude, I'm so happy that you're here; you're Hispanic, I'm Hispanic!' I'm like, 'Thanks, man, appreciate that. I'm going to tell you right now I don't speak Spanish' and see that shock on their face. I do wish to speak more Spanish. I am a bad Puerto Rican... Or maybe I am the perfect Puerto Rican, because if you know anything about Puerto Ricans, half of them also don't speak Spanish. So, shout out to Puerto Rico."
How does it feel to have such a sudden and rapid growth in notoriety? - Christopher Andrew Ryan, Facebook
"It has been very big. Honestly, it's an incredible thing to see. We're very happy that we're all able to live off the art that we're putting out, not a lot of people can sav that. We're so caught up in the race, though, we're focused on what's next so that we can stay up here. If we fall off, you can only get to this point once, and then you lose it. We're trying to ride it for as long as we can."
How difficult was it singing with a camera down your throat? - Andy Pierce, email
"I didn't think it was going to sound good at all because I was so numb and mucus-y. When you’re doing vocals, you don't want mucus because it gets in the way and you can't even feel anything down there. It's almost like if you sang out loud and you just covered your ears, and you couldn't hear what you're putting out. That's what it felt like! Hopefully it'll be better next time (now I know what to expect!)”

The god of dreams. Chapter 2
Pairing: Morpheus x FemaleReader
Rating: PG
Words: 3200~
I was thinking all evening and morning about Morpheus. Is he going to appear? I am actually more concerned about this that about my vocation. But he made my day more interesting and exciting. He just made my day. I made a sandwich and took my breakfast to the terrace of my cabin. And in five minutes Morpheus appeared.
“I was just thinking about you”, I smiled. “Only good thoughts, I hope”, he smirked, sitting in front of me. “Yes, I was thinking when you show up”, I smiled. “And what are you going to show me”. “I thought, you came here to be alone”, he admitted. “To be alone with people I know”, I sighed. “But you’re…an exception. I want to see you and to talk to you”. “Glad to hear”, he smiled. “I still don’t understand how did you find me?” I asked. “As I said, I know my ways”, he smirked. “I have a tour to another beach”, I changed the subject. “Do you want to go with me?”
“I don’t like the beach”, Morpheus said. “Please?” I smiled charmingly. “You came to see me”. “Alright, but I don’t do sunbathing”, he nodded. “Deal”, I smiled. “I think we still have time for coffee. We can try to drink coffee in the nearest café. What do you think?” “We can try”, the man agreed. I finished my breakfast. And we took a walk to the café. “I will take you to breakfast tomorrow”, he said. “Perhaps”.
“So you are going to come tomorrow”, I smiled. “I’m happy to hear it”. “I didn’t decide yet”, he smirked. “I just noticed that you eat a sandwich and I need to show you a proper breakfast”. “How thoughtful of you”, I admitted. “But I would be glad if you join me tomorrow for breakfast. Or show me the new place”. “Then I will join you”, he said and opened a door for me. What a gentleman. “Thank you”, I whispered and touched his hand slightly. No one would believe me if I tell them how handsome, caring, and mysterious a man I met. Suddenly Morpheus steps forward.
“Two cups of coffee, please”, he said. “I feel like we are on the date”, I admitted. “Is that a bad thing?” he looked at me? “No”, I smiled. “Just… I don’t used to it”. “Shame”, he remarked. I blushed at his remark, and he noticed it and frowned. “Shame on these men who don’t court you properly”, he explained. “It's just a cup of coffee. The least I can do”. “It’s very sweet”, I replied with a smile. “Thank you”. “Your sincerity is worth a proper courting”, he admitted. “I would like to do it”. “Do you want to court me?” I whispered.
He suddenly blushed and it looked so cute. Does he really want to court me? He sounds like he came from another century. “Perhaps”, he said. “You don’t like the idea?” “You don’t want to come today and then suddenly you want to court me”, I smiled. “It’s surprising, but I don’t mind”.
He smirked. I didn’t plan to find romance in Greece, but this man finds me anyway. I don’t know what he feels to me but I was glad for his company. “This coffee isn’t bad”, I said, drinking my morning dose of caffeine. “Yours was better, but this will do”. “Good”, he smiled again. “Are you ready to go?” “Yes”, I said. “Thank you for making my company”. “It’s my pleasure”, he took my hand and we went to the cabin to pick up some stuff. “What do you like to visit most here?” “I have been everywhere”, he said. “But perhaps the mountains”. “Oh?” I smiled.
“It’s a quiet place and lonely”, he said. Then he thought about something. “I suppose you will visit the Meteora in a few days. Can I go with you?” “Of course”, I smiled. “I will be happy to go there with you”. “You are too kind”, Morpheus smiled. “You are not afraid to go to the lonely place with an almost unknown man”. “Well, you are not completely unknown already, aren’t you?” I said. “And you have plenty of opportunities to do something with and you didn’t”. “Yes, and I have a desire to…”, he bites his lip. “What?” I smiled. “To protect you”, he finished. “It’s foolish”. “It’s not foolish at all”, I smiled. “I find it sweet”.
“I don’t usually have such kind of feelings”, Morpheus replied. “My siblings may tell that I’m cold and insufferable”. “Maybe you are not cold”, I said. “Maybe, you are just protective of your heart and your feelings. They can sting”. “Indeed”, he smiled. “We can go to the guide now”, I smiled back and took him to the boat.
The guide wasn’t surprised at all to see him, and I suppose it was okay to take Morpheus with me. And we sit very close to each other. It was hard to hide my attraction to him. He was ethereal beautiful and charming. “So why Greece?” he asked. “I like mythology and the sea”, I smiled. “So Greece”. “I didn’t see you studying mythology here”, he noticed. “Well, you can teach me”, I smiled. “As a man with the name of the god of dreams”. “Do you want to listen to a story about ancient times?” he smirked. “Perhaps”, I said.
And then he started a story about gods, love, betrayal, and murder. His was so deep and beautiful, it almost lullabies me to sleep. “Are you okay?” he asked. “Yes, I just…liked listening to your voice”, I smiled. “And did you hear a story?” he asked. “Of course”, I replied. “I felt it echoing in my entire body. You have a talent for storytelling, you know”. “Yes”, he smirked. “I flattered to have your stories just for myself”, I whispered. “And told by such a handsome and charming man”.
He definitely blushed. Perhaps, he doesn’t used to hear compliments. Which is kind of strange. Can he be shy? “Are you going to tell me more stories?” I asked. “Perhaps, later”, he smiled. “We're almost there”.
There were a lot of tourists, but the water was crystal clear. And the sand was clean. Aphytos beach they called it. “Come on, I will find the lonely place”, Morpheus said. “Is it too crowdie for you?” I smiled. “Actually yes”, he nodded. “Too many peoples, and their dreams and daydreaming. That is why I avoided crowdie places”.
His words confused me, but I decided to ask him later what that mean. And let him take me to the nearest rocks, there were fewer people. And then he takes somewhere a black towel and covers the sand. And looked at me. “You don’t want me sitting on the sand while you will be standing, don’t you?” I asked. “I don’t want to sit”, he said. “And technically you won’t be sitting on the sand”. “Technically I won’t be sitting without you”, I smirked. “So sit, please, and give me five minutes, okay?” “What are you doing?” he asked when I hid behind the rocks.
I changed my outfit to a swimming suit. And return to Morpheus. He was sitting on the towel. And when he looked at me, his eyes get dark as the night sky. “What are you doing?” he asked in a husky voice. “I’m going to swim”, I smirked. “Do you want to join me?” “No”, he said. “I will watch you”. “Okay”, I said and went to the sea.
The water was warm and I felt happy. And I felt warm from burning Morpheus’ eyes. I don’t what get into me, but I wished he wanted me. I wish to know what his red lips taste like. It was insane, I only knew him for a few days. I was swimming for ten or fifteen minutes and returned to the man. He was still sitting on the towel but with closed eyes. His eyelashes were so long and beautiful. And then he opened his eyes like he felt my presence.
“You are back”, he admitted. “Yes, were you dreaming?” I asked. “Did I wake you up?” “In some sense”, Morpheus said. “And no, you didn’t wake me”. And then he noticed my wet water body and his eyes get dark. And I shamelessly sat near him. For some reason, I felt safe with him. “Are you done with swimming?” his voice now sounds like purring. “Not quite”, I smiled. “I like swimming. You are bored, aren’t you?” “No, I’m fine”, he said. “Let’s go with me”, I smiled.
“No, it’s a bad idea”, he said. “Are you afraid that you don’t have a swimming suit with you?” I asked. “No, I just don’t swim anywhere”, he rejected. “Please?” I took his hand. “Just a little bit”. “Very well”, he sighed. “Go to the water. I will join you in a minute”.
I smiled happily and went to the sea, and when I turned around, he was already in a swimming suit. His entire body was naked, except trousers. Pale skin, I could see every muscle in his body. His skin was almost transparent. His waist was silly thin. He was unearthly beautiful and I couldn’t turn my gaze away. “You’re staring”, he smirked. It felt like revenge for my earlier actions. “Can’t help it”, I said. “Can’t take my eyes off such a handsome man”. Or there it was again. A blush. A blush suits him. “You don’t use compliments, aren’t you?” I smiled.
“No”, he said. It was fun watching him just standing there, while I’m swimming. And I felt now the strong desire to touch him. “Do you want to join me for swimming?” I asked. “No, I don’t do swimming”, he replied. “Why?” I asked. “I just don’t”, he pursed his lips.
I swim closely to him, while he was watching me with a faint smile. “Are you trying to lure me under the water as a siren?” he asked. “Perhaps”, I answered. I dare to touch his white skin. It was soft as silk. He didn’t say anything, just looking at me. “Let’s go”, he suddenly took my hand and brought me out of the water. And I let him as I was enchanted. I wanted to touch him again. “I would eat some ice cream”, I said. “I know a place”, he said and then disappeared behind the rocks to dress up. “Do you want me to show it?” “Yes”, I smiled.
How can I trust it to take me everywhere? He can be dangerous. But somehow I trust him. He didn’t do anything bad to me. I dressed up after him and let him take me somewhere out of this place. We found a café and there were a lot of people too. “Are we going to eat ice cream somewhere?” I asked. “If you want to”, he replied. “Which one do you prefer?” “Your choice”, I smiled. “Surprise me”.
He smirked and went inside the café. I waited for him outside. And after quite some time, he went out with blue and brown ice cream. “Wow”, I said. “And you?” “What about me?” he asked. “Don’t you want ice cream too?” I smiled. “No, I will enjoy watching you”, he said. I blushed again and took the ice cream. I was curious about what he took for me. “Chocolate”, I tasted it and looked into the eyes of the man. “And blueberry. Quite an interesting combination. Are you sure you don’t want to taste it?”
He suddenly made a step closer to me and then pressed his lips to mine. It was like lightning and everything I have dreamt about. “Yes”, he said finally. “It did taste good”. I felt as if my brain stop working. The touch of his warm soft lips still lingers on mine. And I looked at him. Then I ate more ice cream and kissed him too. “Then you need to taste more”, I whispered. “You played a dangerous game”, he whispered back. “Oh?” I smirked. “And what are you to do with it?” “I can take you somewhere private”, Morpheus replied. “But you knew me only for two days. I didn’t want to…”
“To what? “ I asked. “I don’t want you to fall in love with me”, he sighed. “Not when we can take different ways when your vocation will be over”. “Why?” I asked. “You don’t want to break my heart?” “And my own too”, he replied. “Deal, I won’t fall in love with you”, I said. He smiled with relief. But in his eyes, I saw sadness. “Your ice cream is melting down”, he noticed. “Don’t you want to help me?” I smiled.
And he seductively bites my desert. God, this man made it incredibly hard not to fall in love with him. He raised my desire. “What?” he asked and looked at me. “You are staring again”. “Why did you spend time with me, if you don’t want to fall in love?” I asked. “I thought it can be a good idea to distract myself”, he said. “And…” “And what?” I smiled. “I liked you”, Morpheus replied seriously. “You saw me. You stopped to talk to me. You weren’t scary by my demeanor”.
“Something in your words tells me that people weren’t good for you”, I said. “I have so much fun these days. I didn’t regret meeting you”. “It just ended badly”, he sighed. “Are you ready to return to the beach”? “I'm actually ready to find real food and some interesting places here”, I smiled. “And I want you to drink wine with me”. “I can’t say no to this”, he smirked. So we found an incredibly expensive place. But Morpheus insisted to pay for dinner.
“You will spoil me”, I smiled. “Someone should too, as one my friend said”, he replied. “It’s nothing from me. But it will make you smile”. “You are so sweet”, I admitted. “No”, he smirked. “I’m not”. “You are saying this, but I saw another picture”, I said. “I just…think that you are scared by prices and wanted to pay this for you”, he shrugged. “It’s nothing special”. “Oh no, you are wrong”, I smiled. “You are kind. Not everyone can do this for me so effortlessly. Thank you!” He blushed again. And picked the table for us. “I started to think that you’re doing this on purpose”, he admitted. “What?” I asked, taking the menu. “Making me blush”, he said. “Oh?” I smirked. “I should confess: blush suits you”. “Impossible woman”, he sighed. “You like it, admit it”, I said.
“I like it”, he confessed. “What are you going to order”. “I want something with seafood», I replied. “Mussels, shrimps, and white wine. And maybe, a dessert? Or it’s too much?” “No, as you wish”, he agreed. He ordered only a glass of wine for himself though. I was thinking that sometimes when you don’t want to fall in love, it happens anyway. And with a man like Morpheus, it would be easy. But if he has some bad experience with relationships, it would be understandable that he doesn’t want a new one. Especially the one that can end in heartache for both of us. But why do I feel like I know him for eternity?
“So, when you were planning to go here, did you also plan for romance?” he asked. “Where?” I smirked. “On the beach with you?” “You are truly impossible”, he groaned and then smiled. “No, when you were coming to Greece, of course?” “I didn’t think about it really”, I said. “I just need time away from everything”. “So was I”, he nodded. “So I understand this need”. “Really?” I asked surprised. “Yes”, the man sighed. “My life was difficult lately. And even…traumatized. My sister told me to change place to look at everything from a different perspective”. “This was wise advice”, I smiled. “But I’m sorry that life was shit for you lately. Do you want to talk about it?”
“Not really”, he said. “But I heard that you talk to someone, it can make it easier for you”, I replied. “Honesty for honesty”, he suggested. “Okay”, I sighed. “I have a difficult relationship with my family. And my boyfriend left me for the younger girl”. “Wow”, Morpheus remarked. “It’s sad”. “Yes, your turn”, I whispered. “I mourned the death of my son and couldn’t bear the weight of my responsibilities, pain, and grief. It’s almost consumed me”. “The death of your son?” I asked, “Shit! I’m so sorry! I don’t have a clue”. “You couldn’t know about that”, his voice was emotionless. “And it was a long time ago”.
If it was a long time ago, his son should be young. Maybe, he lost him not long after his birth. And is he married? “It’s terrible”, I noticed. “I shouldn’t ask”. “I can’t blame you for wanting to know more about me”, he said. “But I don’t want to put my burden on your shoulders too”. “I asked for it”, I said and touched his hand. “Your pain must be strong. But you shouldn’t be alone with her”. He took my fingers in his hand and smiled gently. This gentle smile suits him. And I felt my heart flipped in the chest. “You are too kind”, he admitted. “No, you are just too harsh to yourself”, I smiled. “I was always alone”, Morpheus said. “My parents or my siblings don’t understand me. That is why I grew to deal with my pain alone”. “But you shouldn’t”, I said. “You just need to find someone to talk to”. “Thank you for your kind words”, he smiled.
We almost forgot about the time when we should return to the boat. Time with Morpheus flew very quickly. We didn’t swim a lot, but I didn’t regret this. I still have time to swim. We came back in silence. “Don’t you want another walk to town?” he asked when we return to Athens. “Why not?” I smiled and let him take me somewhere. “When will you have the tour to Acropolis?” he asked. “Soon”, I supposed. “Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow”. “And to Meteora?” he asked again. “Tomorrow either”, I shrugged. “Why?” “I want to accompany you if you don’t mind”, he replied. “Of course, I don’t mind”, I said. “You know it, right?” “Perhaps”, he asked.
And then he kissed my hand, making me blush. His lips were warm and I felt like we were left alone in this town. “I should be scared, because you take me somewhere private, where no one can see us”. I whispered. “But I don’t”. “I’m happy to know that I earned your trust”, he said. “I won’t hurt you, I can promise you that. Do you believe me?” “I do”, I smiled. We were wandering around till twilight. And then Morpheus said, that I need dinner and to rest. So he bought me dinner and took me to the cabins. It was a wonderful day. And I didn’t want it to end.
“Don’t you want to come inside?” I suggested when he brought me to the cabin. “Not tonight”, he smiled. “You need to rest”. “Promise me, I will see you tomorrow”, I said. “Of course”, he smiled. “Meteora and Acropolis”. Then he took a step forward and his lips briefly touched mine. It made my blood boil. But then he smirked and disappeared in the night.

May as well do version two of the musical challenge that @lets-dance-to-joy-division kindly tagged me on. Last night I did five (six really) fairly new to me songs that could evolve into obsessions (pretty sure I'm well on the way with at least three of them). Tonight it's going to be five acts that I've been playing a lot as of late, so I'm kindof obsessed with the band if not necessarily a single song. Again, I don't like to tag people on these things, but if you want to play, you really don't need my permission or anyone else's; just do it.
Five musical acts that Kitty's listening to a lot lately:
Aesthetic Perfection
This will come as no surprise to anyone who has payed attention to my musical posts. I have been absolutely obsessed with Aesthetic Perfection for a good year anyway, and this song has probably been my most obsessively played. I damn near died when I got to be within I can smell your sweat distance of Daniel Graves twice on their recent North American tour. His music has evolved over the years from harsher, angrier stuff with a more electro-industrial edge to what he now calls industrial pop. He does lots of interesting things musically and in his videos. He has the freedom to do so as he told his label to piss off some years ago and he's forging his way independently. He's very fan friendly, and having met him in Baltimore last October, he seems like a nice guy who'd be fun to talk to at length.
Papa Roach
Wait, what? This is nowhere near that synthy dark dancey stuff I posted before. Yep. I didn't like Papa Roach when I heard their first big single, Last Resort, back in the day and I still didn't like it about a year and a half ago when a good friend said that he liked PRoach. But for the last year or so I have LOVED much of their music, including Last Resort. I do actually like rock, but the thing with these guys as opposed to the cock rock and glam rock I grew up with is that Jacoby Shaddix writes and sings about emotions and feelings, not just sex, drugs, and rock and roll. And his lyrics are very catchy and singable in the privacy of my own car. The songs are musically interesting with good use of bass and drumplay that is often more complex than a simple beat. They've also added some synth and electronic elements in their more recent work. It was hard to pick just one song for them, I love so much of their work now. Papa Roach was my big band obsession before Aesthetic Perfection.
Linkin Park
Yes, another rock group, but to me they've always been so much more interesting than that. Mixing rap and singing, two vocalists, Joe Hahn's turntable work, and again with the personal, deeply emotional songs. Their first album Hybrid Theory might be my all-time favorite album, and if not, it's definitely in the top fucking three. Back in the day, at work we called Linkin Park our "angry music." I left them behind for awhile after their second effort Meteora but started to get back into them when I discovered Burn It Down in the mid-2010s (definitely my biggest LP obsession song). It wrecked me when Chester Bennington took his own life. If anyone bothers to throw a funeral for me when I die, I humbly request that two Linkin Park songs be played--One More Light (still cannot make it through that song without choking up) and Leave Out All the Rest.
Ashbury Heights
The first three obsession acts were obvious to me, the last two not so much, but going by my Last.fm stats, Ashbury Heights is my fourth most listened to act in the last year and a half or so. I had never heard of this Swedish duo until they came up for me on Last.fm. Their sound is varied and they've had at least three female singers during their run (I believe they are currently back with their original). I don't like everything, I tend to prefer their older stuff, but what I do like is fun, basically synthpop like this song Spiders. My most obsessive song though has been Spectres from the Black Moss, a catchy tune about a person with mental health issues and an unsupportive partner. The repeated use of the line "no sympathy" is the musical equivalent of fuck you and it is glorious.
God Module
God Module is a bit of a surprise for fifth place as I've only really started listening to more than a couple songs of theirs relatively recently. Their song Plastic was one of the ones I was considering for the final slot on last night's obsession list (and it definitely will become an obsession as I listen to it more). Again with them I don't love everything, but what I do love has a very different and interesting sound with a good beat and something funky going on with the synths. Something stompy I could dance to at the club. Lunacy was definitely an obsession song for me and inspired one of my mixes. Looking forward to digging in to more of their work.
Josie Pace
Bonus artist! I have to add Josie Pace as while my online stats don't reflect an obsession, I listen to her CD a lot in my car. She was one of the openers on Aesthetic Perfection's fall tour. I had never heard of her before and was impressed enough to buy the CD at the show (not typical for me). I swear she is better live than on the recordings. She brings such energy to her performances. Her best stuff isn't even on the CD. The song I wanted to put here hasn't been released yet. Also check out her cover of Pure Morning. She is also extremely sweet and is very happy to talk to you, give autographs, and do selfies. I hope she gets some new music out soon! (Oh and @lets-dance-to-joy-division, she's from the Detroit area.)

Bruce was a storyteller. He had stories about growing up with his sister in New Jersey, his almost fifty-year career, and his kids: Brie, Jessica, Evan, and Sam. The band listened to him talk about dodging the Vietnam draft as a teenager. He hated the war and wasn’t going to go. They could listen to him for hours because he was so fascinating. He was also a proud father. Sam wanted to be a firefighter, Jess wanted to be a showjumper and Evan was interested in music.
Brie? What was she up to? She had an audition for a modeling agency. How did that go? It went well, even though she didn’t know what the hell she was doing. They laughed. She was waiting to hear back from them. Patti asked if she wanted to do modeling. She shrugged. Not really but a job was a job. It was also something to do during the day.
“What are you going to do after you get your inheritance?”
“I have no idea. Maybe go somewhere nice. I’ll take Mike with me. We can go to Jamaica or something.”
Inheritance? Yeah, she was going to inherit a million and a half dollars from her parents when she turned twenty-five. The stipulations were that she didn’t become a spoiled brat, and didn’t get pregnant while in high school – she had no idea where the hell that came from. They laughed. She also had to graduate high school, which she did. Bruce told her to get a job. If her parents cut her off, she should let him know so he could deal with them.
Dinner was delicious! She made a honey glazed ham with a French potato salad, a lemon parmesan salad, and beer or soda. Both Rob and Brad confirmed that both salads were vegan-friendly before she put them out. Since they and Chester didn’t drink alcohol, she bought a twelve-pack of soda while Patti bought the beer, since she was underage. The guys were satisfied and full!
Joe complimented her. They should make her the band’s chef. That could be her job. They laughed. Was anything French? Yes, the potato salad was French. Did she make a lot of French dishes? Not if it was just her. If she had people over, then she tried to make at least one thing that was French. She thought of making a Parisian chicken salad, but she thought that would be too much meat for the vegans. Rob thanked her for thinking of them.
After dinner, they got a tour of her apartment. They then sat down in the living room with their drinks. She had a great view of downtown Los Angeles! Her bookshelf had different CDs. The guys were interested in seeing what artists and bands she was listening to. She had Bruce Springsteen, the Spice Girls, Britney Spears, Rita Wilson, the Backstreet Boys, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, Patti Scialfa, and Linkin Park.
It was quite the collection. Patti remembered when she and Jessica used to dance around to the Spice Girls when they were younger. Joe noticed she had their first four albums. He pointed that out. Oh, yeah. She did. Hybrid Theory, Meteora, Reanimation, and Minutes to Midnight. Phoenix told her she should get the new album. She was going to do that, especially since Taylor Swift just came out with a new album that she wanted to get.
“I see where your priorities lie”, Rob joked.
They laughed. Patti and Bruce could see how well they treated their little girl. She had six guys with six unique personalities looking out for her as if she were their little sister. Mike also seemed like a respectable guy. He was a lot older than her, which they didn’t know if they liked. But they could have a private conversation about that later. At least he didn’t have tattoos.
After the other guys left, they sat down with Brie. No, they weren’t officially dating. They had gone on a couple of dates but he wasn’t officially her boyfriend. They were headed towards that. Has he been married? No. Does he have any kids? No. How old was he? He was thirty-three years old. Did she understand why they didn’t feel comfortable with their age difference? Yeah, but she didn’t see a problem with it.
Patti pointed out that there was an age difference between her and Bruce, five years but it was different because they were both adults. They wanted her to find a guy who was closer to her age, or at least in his twenties.
The next afternoon, she found Mike at the studio. He asked her what was wrong. It was Bruce and Patti. He guessed that they liked him but they thought he was too old for her. Yeah. What did she think? She didn’t care because she liked him. He treated her well every time they were together. The band was also like her family and she didn’t want to lose that.
He liked her, too. After some discussion, they decided not to go through with a relationship. When she got home, she started crying to herself because she thought he would be the one. He was heartbroken as well. Why did he do it? He didn’t know. It was probably because he was scared of Bruce. He was intimidating, just like a father waiting on the front porch for his daughter to return home from a date with a loaded shotgun next to him.
She respected him as a father. He and Patti were the only parents she had. Mike had to tell the boys the news that next morning. They were devastated for them. Why didn’t Bruce like him? He and his wife thought he was too old and it was inappropriate. Phoenix expressed sympathy. Thanks. He didn’t want to talk about it anymore. Okay.
Bruce had Brie record a demo because he and Patti knew she could sing. They went to a recording studio where they met with a producer. She introduced herself. He went through what was going to happen. Did she have a song she had written or picked out? Yeah, it was Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. He had her go to the piano. Once everything was set up, he pointed at her to start. Bruce sat quietly, though he watched with pride as she sang.
Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder, even children get older
And I'm getting older too
The producer played it back. He then turned around and looked at Bruce. Are you kidding me! He nodded. Yeah, she could sing! She just needed to believe that herself. Before they left, they got a copy of the song. He wished her luck. Thank you.
They took the demo to the band, where they were taking a much needed snack break. What’s going on? She had a surprise for them. Could she use the laptop? Brad told her to go for it. They were curious about what she was doing as she took out a CD and popped it in to the CD tray. They gathered around and then listened to the song and the person singing it.
“First off, what’s the song”, Brad asked after it was over.
“Landslide by Fleetwood Mac”, she answered.
“Second, that’s you singing? Who’s playing the piano?”
“That’s me. I’m playing and singing.”
“It was all her”, Bruce said proudly.
She had a great voice! Was she looking for a recording label? She was thinking about going into county music. Maybe county rock, like Lynyrd Skynyrd. What was the song she just did? That was folk rock. It was similar to country rock. She liked country and rock music, so she wanted to mix them together.
Brad was the A&R guy, so he offered her a contract. The guys told her to do it! Okay. They laughed. They would need to have an attorney go over the contract with her, so he would call her to set up a date to do that. That would be great! How was she doing? She was going to go home and take a ten hour nap. Maybe she would stop by and get another bottle of sparkling grape juice and try not to drink it while driving home. They laughed.
