He had softly knocked on your door, and you could hear it, despite the shouts and hollers of the mercs down the hall. It was late during game night, and most of the mercs were enjoying their last drinks of the night.
You had heard the knock, but your voice wouldn't come out- your body didn't allow it. It also didn't entirely comprehend the knock- sure, you had heard it, but it was simply another noise among so many others. Every individual voice from down the hall, the buzz of electricity running through your lights, the wind crashing against the building, the insanely loud ringing sound that usually only came when it was all too quiet- you could hear it all; as if your senses were heightened. Hyper-aware, if you will. Your eyes were dazed, despite your brain being so focused on many different things. You could feel every texture surrounding you- the difference between the texture of your hoodie versus your shorts, against the texture of your bedsheets. Even your hair's texture was ticklish and heavily unwelcome.
The door began to open.
Wait- had he said something else? Not that you would would have noticed- with all the other noises drowning it out.
But you still didn't have the energy to move anything but your eyes towards Medibot when he rushed over to you, worried. You felt semi-detached from your body, despite being so in tune with everything surrounding it. You felt so heavy at the same time, it was difficult to raise your head or even lift a finger. You felt tied down to it, as if you were one of Medic's experiments in his lab- being strapped down to be tested on.
The whirring of Medibot's fans was another sound that was added to the mountain of others, but it was more comforting than the rest. Sure, it was simply white noise, but it was one that your brain got accustomed to associating with comfort.
He tried to talk to you, but only a few words managed to not sound like a blur. You weren't able to answer him with your voice, but you could manage to barely lift you hand enough to sign 'yes' or 'no' if needed.
He was in a fit of panic and was unsure of what was going on- until you made the sign for 'overwhelmed'. Now, that couldn't just be it- he knew that from experience.
You were overstimulated.
Now that's something familiar that he knows how to work with, from personal experience. He quickly goes to shut off the main blinding light to your room, opting to turn on a small yellow-tinted lamp off to the corner of the room instead.
He had asked if you were alright with physical contact to which you once again signed 'yes'. He knew not to suddenly hug you- but gently grazing his cold, metallic hand over your arm helped ground you. After a minute without any words exchanged, he remembers something that may help- or at least, he knows it helps him.
He promises that he'll be back in just a moment, and asks for permission to leave, before swiftly opening and shutting your door to block out as much sound as possible while he was gone.
He soon returned with a weighted blanket that he carefully draped over you, as much as you were comfortable with.
Once he tucked you in, he spoke, as gently and quietly as his voice box would allow;
[[It is late, and your human body needs sleep.]]
There was care and worry in his voice. He recognized your expression immediately- you lightly sighed and looked away.
He knows.
He really does. He's been in the same position countless times. He knows it's difficult for you to fall asleep, and it didn't feel like it was something you could control right now. It was out of your grasp. But he'd be there until you did, and he promised that. He'd get you anything you needed- even if you were unable to tell him. He'd brought a glass of water to your lips, and had even managed to bring you a small portion of your comfort food to eat a half-hour later. You may not have eaten much, but the familiar taste and texture was comforting.
Another ten minutes, and he too was beginning to get fed up with how loud the mercs were. But he wasn't in a position to tell them what to do,... right? You never would have thought he'd have the guts to stand up to the flesh version of himself, but you had been proven wrong when he excused himself after once again checking to make sure you'd be alright on your own.
He most likely pulled Medic to the side and explained some things- you can't guess exactly what happened, but you heard engineer's muffled voice above everyone for a moment, then it was much quieter. You could hear Soldier's voice get loud only for a second before two others quickly cut him off, and it ended there.
Medibot came back to you as promised, and once again began to trace shapes over your arms to help keep you grounded.
Eventually, another hour later, he finally heard soft snores come from you. The mercs had gone to bed a while ago- there was a good chance that one or two of them were still cleaning up.
He brought the blanket up and tucked you in again before doing a once-over. You appeared to be right conked out, and he was sure to check your pulse as well- he was still a medic, after all. Only once he was completely sure that you were safe and comfortable did he allow himself to relax.

You awoke to find your hand holding his thumb. You followed it up his arm, to his face, and as soon as he saw you awake, he seemed to light up with excitement. He had calmed himself before speaking so as to not startle you, in case your mood hadn't improved. Before he could though, you cut him off.
"Mornin' sweetheart."
Your voice was hoarse- you could definitely go for a glass of water. So, you slowly stretched a bit and sat up to do so.
With that alone- seeing you move comfortably and speak had already drowned out all of Medibot's worries from the night before.
[[GOOD MORNING !! JOYFUL !!]
Hearing his tone indicator made you smile genuinely, wondering why he had any reason to be so- oh.
That's right.
You had forgotten about last night.
Your face dropped slightly as you recalled how you felt- overstimulated and distanced from reality.
Then you took a look around, only to see the remains of your comfort food, along with the weighted blanket slightly falling from the bed.
You could only look at Medibot with appreciation, beckoning him to come closer to you. He let himself sit a good distance away from you on the edge of the bed- but he wasn't expecting to get pulled into a comforting embrace.
His hands hovered above your back, still surprised at the sudden affection. It managed to slightly fluster him when you began to gently sway a bit- surely he didn't deserve all this, right? He just did what he knew to do best. You'd helped him through overstimulation plenty of times before- he felt he owed you this much at the very least.
"Thank you, Medi. You have no idea how much you helped me, nor how much I appreciate you."
If he was capable of it, he's sure he would have teared up. It's rare that he's told he's appreciated; he was built to help, so it's seemingly expected. Honestly, he finds that he's never helping enough. His job when he was created was to hurt and eliminate people- and he had failed at that. Luckily so- but he still feels like he's not offering his full potential.
Shaking his head as if to dismiss his thoughts, he's once again focused on your hold.
[[YES !! OF COURSE !!I AM GLAD TO HELP MY FAVORITE PERSON!!]]
He sees you stiffen up for a moment, a look of confusion grazing your features. He's about to verbally reciprocate your confusion, but you beat him to it, with a tilt of your head;
"Favorite person?"
He didn't sense any negativity from the comment- actually, there seemed to be amusement, but he couldn't help but worry if he had said something wrong. It's just how he was conditioned to think- any minor mistakes and... it's best not to discuss. He reluctantly replied;
[[YES !!... IS THAT BAD ?]]
Maybe it was an odd thing to blatantly exclaim who and who wasn't his favorite? He still wasn't sure on human customs, after all.
"Nono!" with a frantic wave of your hands, you assure him that it's nothing wrong, "I just- didn't think I meant that much to you, is all,"
You let out a soft, embarrassed chuckle as the idea that you're his favorite person- it means a lot more to you than he might think. Not to mention- he still doesn't fully understand some emotions- but that's something you can figure out later.
[[OH !! YES !! BY FAR!! ]]
His eyes appeared to light up and he began to flap his hands in excitement- he's glad that you're now aware of his favoritism. He sort of assumed that you knew, but you also don't know much about his life outside of the base.
[[YOU CARED FOR ME LOTS !! NOT MANY PAY ATTENTION TO ME !! ]]
As happy as he sounded, along with the happy stimming- his words hurt. He's such a kind soul, and he's really been taken for granted. You were never able to put it into perspective up until now- even then, you haven't lived his life, so who's to say?
He tilts his head after noticing how your expression slightly fell, and you seemed to be distracted by something. Worry once again crowded his mind as he panicked on what to say.
You quickly noticed the absence of movement from his hands and realise what was going on with a quick glance at his expression.
You calmly grabbed one of his larger hands with both of yours, and offered him a kind smile. It did reassure him, thankfully. The excitement in the room fizzled out, which turned to warmth.
"Medi?"
Your voice was softer now, and he could tell what you were about to say was important. He nods with curiosity.
"From now on, we take care of each other, alright? I care about you lots too, and you mean so much to me- we need to back each other up in tough times. So I'll be there for you, and you'll be there for me."
You absentmindedly ran your thumb over the back of his hand while talking. After a moment of silence, you added on;
"...Does that sound okay?"
It took him a moment to buffer- of course he'd do anything for you! But... someone taking care of him? That's not really something that had ever crossed his mind before. Being cared for feels so alien to him, he feels unworthy of it.
[[ARE YOU CERTAIN ? I AM GLAD TO BE TAKING CARE OF YOU, BUT I AM ALRIGHT !! UNCERTAIN !! ]]
Your heart aches at the idea that he doesn't think he deserves help- but you're here to help him now. You're here for each other.
'Medi- everyone does, and I'm more than happy to simply be around you, no matter if you're feeling positive or negative.'
His eyes dart around as he tries to comprehend all of your words. You notice his uneasiness. You slowly get up from the bed and make your way over to the door, reaching out a friendly hand towards Medibot.
"Let's just start small, alright? Wanna come with me to make breakfast? I've got lots of quarters if you'd like?"
It takes him a moment to think, but he eventually pipes up from his seat to cradle your hand in his.
[[... SURE !! THAT WOULD BE APPRECAITED !! ]]
