Political Stress and Hostility Can Be Reduced Through Mindfulness
According to the American Psychological Association (APA), nearly 80% of U.S. adults say the countryā€™s future is a significant source of stress. Mindfulness can reduce political stress and hostility, promoting resilience in civic participation.
When I taught U.S. Government and Politics in an Arizona public school, I saw students struggle with the realities of American political stress. Many of their intense anxieties likely stemmed from their parentsā€™ influence. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), nearly 80% of U.S. adults say the countryā€™s future is a significant source of stress. In 2024, the APA reportedā€¦

Mindfulness: A Promising Safeguard for Floundering Teenage Mental Health
Teenage mental health is a growing concern worldwide.Ā As a teacherĀ in Arizona public schools, I saw firsthand how anxiety and depression affect students.
One moment stands out. Last year, a student in my government class asked to use the bathroom. He never came back. Hours later, he was found at a Home Depot, overwhelmed by thoughts of self-harm. He had left school to cope with his emotions.
This was a terrifying moment for me as a teacher, but itā€™s not uncommon. Teen mental health is a complex issue with no one-size-fits-all solution. However, mindfulness offers a promising way to help teens reduce anxiety and depression.

Job searching and career building can feel like stepping into a false vacuum.
We often look to the past, trying to piece together a story about our value from what weā€™ve accomplished. At the same time, we strain to shape the future, trying to will it into something that feels secure, successful, or fulfilling.
But hereā€™s the thing:
šŸŒ«ļø The past is gone, and the future is unpredictable. šŸ“„ Resumes, interviews, and even curated profiles on social media can never fully capture the essence of who we are or the real impact weā€™ve made.
So what can we do?
āœØ Shift your focus to building authentic relationships. Seek connection, not just credentials. ā¤ļø Remember: Your value isnā€™t tied to your past accomplishments or future goals. Your worth lies in how you show up right now.
We only get one life, and itā€™s happening moment by moment. Donā€™t let the chase for a perfect career rob you of living fully or loving yourself as you are today.
šŸ’” How are you balancing career goals with living in the present moment?

How To Stop Procrastinating: It's Not About Technology
Figuring out how to stop procrastinating can feel like scaling a mountainā€”especially when weā€™re overwhelmed. Mindfulness can help tame the anxious, avoidant mind. If you find yourself constantly putting things off, here are tools to help you get started.
Figuring out how to stop procrastinating can feel like scaling a mountainā€”especially when weā€™re overwhelmed. I know the struggle. As an undergraduate in humanities and biblical studies, I had many late nights. Campus libraries would close, leaving me hunting for a quiet place to write. Snack spots shut down, and Iā€™d end up typing softly in dim dorm rooms to avoid waking roommates. On top of myā€¦

Inner Peace Comes When You Focus Your Senses Now
Our natural tendency is to either suppress our feelings or react to others. But neither response offers real inner peace. Next time you feel the pull to react or suppress, shift to the present moment.
Last week, I found myself caught between two loved ones in an ugly argument. Have you ever joined a conversation, only to realize too late that it was spiraling out of control? That was my situation. I sat down at a party, hoping to join in, only to discover the conversation had soured before I arrived. My safeguarded inner peace was now compromised. Both family members are dear to me. I feltā€¦

What if everything you seek is already inside you?
You donā€™t need to fix anything.
You are whole.
You donā€™t need to accomplish anything.
You are precious.
You donā€™t need to become anything.
You are becoming.
You donā€™t need to know anything.
You are knowing.
You donā€™t need to trust anything.
You are safe.
You donā€™t need to enjoy anything.
You are joyful.
You donā€™t need to fight anything.
You are strong.
You donā€™t need to pacify anything.
You are peace.
To seek these things is to lose them. Theyā€™re already part of your being.
What are you seeking that you already have?

Feeling overwhelmed? Take a mindful moment right now.
Stop whatever youā€™re doing and focus on something in your surroundings. Notice as much as you can without overthinkingā€”just absorb it. Do this for 2 minutes.
How do you feel? Share your experiencešŸ‘‡

Three Simple Steps to Vaporize Fear and Unlock Your Heart
At the end of the iconic HBO series The Sopranos, the eponymous lead, Tony, dies off-screen in an instant. The scene just cuts to black. When this moment aired live, phone calls flooded cable companies. Enraged viewers believed a service outage ruined the finale of their favorite show. In reality, there was no outage at all. The directors made a choice to end with a sudden cut to black. Itā€¦

Mindfulness Restores Insight and Love from Your Inner Child
Children have fewer solidified judgments about the world. They often respond with more compassion, sensitivity, and interest than adults. Restoring that open and clear mind is a central aim of mindfulness practice.
Think back to when you were a small child. Do you remember how much you absorbed without overthinking? The world felt rich, vibrant, and dynamic without mental or emotional commentary. Children have fewer solidified judgments about the world. They often respond with more compassion, sensitivity, and interest than adults. Restoring that open and clear mind is a central aim of mindfulnessā€¦

Next Time You Wash Dishes Might Be Your Last Chance
Life's smallest tasks can often become sources of monotony and boredom. Washing dishes, doing laundry, preparing meals, and walking the dog may seem trivial. When you feel resistance to these dull routines, try this: stay in the moment.

The ā€œHearā€ and Now: How to Listen for Presence
Getting lost in thought clouds the peace and wonder of the present moment. One way to return to presence is by listening to the sounds around you. Knowing what to listen for can help you practice this skill.
Note: For those of us who can hear, listening is a valuable tool for presence. For those with hearing differences, try focusing on other senses, like sight or touch. At any moment, countless things happen all around us. People, animals, and even inanimate objects are always in motion. The world is a vibrant, ever-changing place. Yet, itā€™s easy to lose track of whatā€™s happening due to constantā€¦

Mindful Gaming: Overcome Distraction and Reclaim Your Imagination
Distractions can be frustrating, but they are part of the human experience. Awareness of the moment can make gaming more fulfilling. Here are some practices to help you stay present while you play.
Itā€™s been a stressful week. You change into comfortable clothes, grab a snack, and settle in with a drink. The lights of your game system flicker to life. You finally have some rare time for yourself, and youā€™re ready to enjoy it. But after a while, restlessness sets in. Your mind starts to wander back to parts of the day. For example, while your party members in Baldurā€™s Gate 3 banter, aā€¦
