How to Access Exclusive Research Archives Online
In the digital age, exclusive research archives have become invaluable resources for academics, professionals, and curious minds alike.
In the digital age, exclusive research archives have become invaluable resources for academics, professionals, and curious minds alike. These archives house a wealth of information, often containing rare and comprehensive collections that are not readily available to the general public. Accessing these archives can seem daunting, but with the right approach, it is entirely feasible. Here’s a…

I will say, there's definitely a possibility that Essek is technically contracted to the Cobalt Soul, but probably not as an archivist. But on the slim chance that he is, I will, on account of the state of real-world archives jobs, be reaching into the narrative to throttle him with my bare hands.
#I've been trying to finish one archives reading for an hour and a half#and ngl. more than any class I've taken thus far it is ROUGH in this one for this reason precisely#love living in a world in which all jobs are becoming scarce#because the only thing anyone is willing to pay for is the ability to scam people out of money#it's fine. we live in a functional society.#anyway#'academics can easily get jobs in their field' actually a statistical error.#nepotism georg. who is on the run from multiple governments but still has a cushy archivist job. is an outlier and shouldnt be counted.#this is a joke lmfao but also. is it. *is it.*#this is why I'm focusing on metadata. cuz I'm good at it and enjoy it and a lot of people fuckin hate it.#cr spoilers

Steddie Recs: Virgin!Eddie, Bottom!Eddie, and Eddie coming in his pants 👍
a little underrehearsed by theamazingbard -
1.6k. A short, sweet fic of Virgin!Eddie. He comes over to Steve’s, determined not to come in his pants this time and they give each other HJs. He also has a line about wanting to count and kiss all of Steve’s freckles.
(The precurser to this is a tumblr ficlet found here.)
hands of loving - by kafkian -
5k. SO HOT. Virgin!Eddie and Steve offering to help out for his first time. This is so fluffy and hot and perfect. Once it gets going, it’s so good. Pretty much everything you want in a fic like this.
don’t start (too late) - by Ark -
6k. A lovely fic about Eddie bottoming for the first time. Ark is the one that got me into this ship (according to my notes when I first bookmarked this) so it makes sense that this made the cut! It’s just pure fluff and smut and I love it to pieces.
"Yeah," Eddie agrees, feeling dizzy. He’s full of Steve’s fingers and there’s starstuff in his blood. "Yes, please, that."
listen closely by Adure -
3k. Three of Eddie’s first times with Steve. (Receiving a BJ, topping, and giving a BJ.)
"Just think about that place you like. The magical one."
"Magical one?"
"Y'know. To Margor."
"Oh, my god. You didn't just call it 'Margor'."
edge of heaven by bdelaney -
2k. YUM. This is a lovely fic of One-Minute-Munson being edged by Steve and it’s fluffy and hot!
fear is fading fast by amiparanoidmuch (must be logged in to view) -
14k. I’m not gonna lie, I skipped to the end of this one just for the porn. I’m sure the rest is very good, but sometimes I’m not in the mood for all the setup and I’m weak!
This is very well-written, in-character, and super sweet. Virgin!Eddie. It’s so hot. And Eddie asking Steve to come on him will always make my brain explode.
"Look at you." He grabs Steve's hips, grinds up into him. "Fuck, if you knew what you did to me, Harrington. If you knew…"
Steve leans forward and grinds against Eddie. There's a brush of hardness against hardness, and God, Eddie isn't going to survive this.
Fics where Eddie comes in his pants 💖:
that backseat afterglow - Adure - Stranger Things (TV 2016) [Archive of Our Own]
4k. This is…real, real hot. Steve gets a flat tire and the boys pick him up on their way when they’re helping Eddie move. There’s nowhere for him to sit except on Eddie’s lap. 👀
Steve feels him shift underneath him and he can't help it, whispers a quick "Fuck." and Eddie grips him a bit tighter. Possibly encouraged by Steve's own confusing reaction, how he's still leaning back against Eddie. Only startles slightly when he feels Eddie's dick flex and Steve didn't know it would feel like that against him and he swallows hard, wants to shift from side to side again.
Roll for Orgasms by Agf.
4k. This is one of my favorite Steddie fics of all time. And there are so many great lines that just get you, and so many sweet and funny moments.
Technically Eddie comes in his pants in this, although there isn’t much detail about that part. Just a fantastic line at the end! And this is definitely more bottom!Steve, but it’s one of my favorite fics ever and I will rec it until the end of time.
“Been a while since you made me come in my pants like a goddamn teenager, Harrington.”
Steve has never knowingly done that, so the implication in Eddie’s words makes him scrub a hand over his face. “Don’t,” he says. “I can’t take any more. My dick is gonna actually fall off if you try and get it up again.”
I wanna feel the heat with somebody by bdelaney -
2.8k. A kind of AU where Eddie is invited to one of Steve’s parties as a drug dealer and Steve gets dared to give him a lap dance.
These Dreams - IntoTheStardust - Stranger Things (TV 2016) [Archive of Our Own]
3.5k. Steve takes Eddie and the kids to San Diego for a con. ~And there was only one bed.~ The guys wake up in a compromising position and decide to do something about it. This technically counts as Eddie coming in his pants.
never been kissed - Chapter 1 - Macellarius - Stranger Things (TV 2016) [Archive of Our Own]
26k. Virgin!Eddie with very confident and experienced Steve, but Steve is also in love and enamored with Eddie, so it’s super cute. Eddie loves that Steve can apparently lift him up, and Steve loves that he’s a virgin. There is thigh-riding and jizzing-in-pants in the first chapter.
The first chapter is really the only one I can really recommend. Steve is already a little over-confident in an OOC way in this and I don’t love the following chapters? Also, for some reason a lot of their dialog is in the same paragraph. Sometimes even the same sentence, which gets very confusing. But I think it happens more in the later chapters and not as much in the first one. Anyway, read the first chapter!
“You- you pick me up while we’re making out and think that’ll help me not cream my pants?” Eddie asks in disbelief, and Steve barks out a laugh.
“Maybe I want to make you cream your pants,” he responds, “that something you’d be into?”
Related tags for future searching (and for the metadata of it all): Virgin Eddie Munson, Bottom Eddie Munson, Premature Ejaculation, Coming Untouched, Coming in Pants.
Thank you all for coming (ha) on this journey with me!

hi! okay! i don't know what the general consensus is on sharing mp3s and stuff, or even the best way to share those on here, but if anyone wants the mp3 (by which i mean zipped folder of the individual tracks, all labelled with metadata and cover art and everything) for moon colony bloodbath, i can hook you up :D
#discovered my passion in life. it is archiving things and then sorting and labeling them in EXCRUCIATING detail#the only reason i didnt put lyrics in the metadata is i couldnt figure out how to do that lmao#but yeah i have that one and if theres something youve been looking for in mp3 drop an ask/dm and i can make it for you!#this is enrichment for me <- autistic#txt#transmissions from lyric#tmg#orig

Scorpius Delecti by Rhonda Krafchin. Wayne Pygram adds a taste of evil to the Farscape experience.
Wayne Pygram deliciously etches Farscape's master villain, Scorpius.
Wayne Pygram likes to tell a story from his first day on set of Farscape playing resident baddie Scorpius. After hours in the makeup chair, the Australian actor emerged onto the soundstage decked out in full costume--a slinky, black, reptilian getup, bombardier-style helmet and full facial prosthetics that turned Pygram's face into a grotesque, grimacing, skeletal head with bad dental work and deep-set eyes. The five-minute camera test was the first glimpse anyone had had of the new character.
"The whole set literally stopped," Pygram recalls. "Everyone put down tools and was looking at me: 'What the hell is that?'" Pygram pauses, relishing the memory. "I felt the power. I had walked into a room and everyone stopped. I automatically felt the seduction. Then I walked up to a friend and started talking to her about her son. How was he? How was it going at school? She had no idea it was me. And the look in her eyes, the fear in her eyes, having this skull talking to her in detail about her son. From that day on, I knew I didn't have to do much. All I have to do is stand there and speak, and people are going to listen because the image is so potent. He's spooky."
Though Scorpius was originally intended only for a four-episode story arc on Farscape, the character just proved too
#farscape#scorpius#starlog#this is a scan from starlog magazine i THINK. i got it from farscaperesource but their magazine scans are all cropped bc theyre just#archiving the images. archive.org claims to have some starlog articles by rhonda but they say the metadata files r busted so i cant find#the full article despite digging around. sad.#maybe i should ask farscape resource if they still have the scans.......#also if you see a transcription error lmk

If I could make any change to Ao3, I would:
Distinguish between "major" and "minor" tags for characters/relationships, so that it's clear when a particular relationship is the whole point of a fic and when a particular relationship is merely incidental to/present in the fic. This would make filtering to find the desired type of fic much easier
Create a separate metadata field for canon-ness, with standardized options for "Canon Compliant" "Canon Divergent," and common Alternate Universes (i.e. "Alternate Universe - Omegaverse," "Alternate Universe - Coffee Shop," "Alternate Universe - Vampires"). Many authors do include this information in their tags, but it's often buried, and because there's not a controlled vocabulary, trying to limit to or exclude based on these factors is hit or miss
#ao3#archive of our own#I'm a librarian and I like elaborate metadata#Ao3 genuinely has one of the best metadata/filtering schemas of any major database#but there are Improvements That I Desire

I'm about to say something super controversial.
Jon, while not technically qualified for archival work, absolutely did have to have SOME experience with things relating to the field. Especially as a researcher with a Master's in English, which is the most common head-canon for his degree.
I am saying this as someone currently in my first year as an undergrad Library and Information Science major. There's no possible way he isn't at least familiar with one or two catalogue systems or any citation styles. It's the basics, ffs.
Of all of them, the only one I wouldn't believe to have any knowledge of what the fuck they were doing would be Martin. All of them, to get their jobs in research, would have to have the same credentials. And assuming Miss Sasha 'lets staple important documents together' James would have certification to be in the archives, is laughable. I guess they just let fucking ANYONE in artifact storage.
Sorry. Like. On one hand, I know within the podcast, he truly doesn't have a damn clue, but on the other hand? It'd be insane to me to say he knew nothing. Even slightly. Even tangentially.
What I'm saying is. Let the man know what collection development is and how to budget for weeding and repairing. Please. Let him have had at least one Information Ethics class. I beg of you.
#tma#the magnus archives#this man knows *quickly googles british citation styles* Harvard Standard#he knows DDC from LCC#he is aware of what metadata is

Gotta love cataloging sometimes
Caption of a postcard from the Mexican Revolution w/ a photo of a dead soldier on it: "that's a real dead body!" Yeah?? It sure is?? Bestie whoever you're showing this to probably lived through the American Civil War and/or is living through World War I I think they believe you
And another one (more dead soldiers): "kisses 🥰🥰 from your pookums!! <3 <3" sent to a woman in fucking Cornwall England
#i get The Reasons why people did that#(photography recently becoming accessible and real-photographic postcards being A New(ish) Thing)#(esp war photography and the concept of being able to actually *show* people around the world EXACTLY what's happening around you)#but like. Geoffrey we could do without the war tourism please and thank you#people are fighting a full-blown revolution. you're in a war zone. stop being Silly Goofy before your Silly Goofy ass gets riddled with lead#these are not the first postcards w/ dead bodies on them nor will they be the last#(items from/about the Mexican Revolution is one of my workplace's biggest collections)#i might be paraphrasing the second one a liiiiitle bit#he didnt say pookums but that was def the vibe#im not. like. angry. mostly just frustrated and a bit nauseous#other highlights (/s) from this batch include a white man posing with child soldiers#and a slur i didn't know existed until i got Bad Vibes from the word and looked it up to make sure#cataloguing#digital collections#libraries#archiving#metadata#jay rambles#my post

Over the past several months, Anna’s Archive has been secretly scraping WorldCat, the world’s largest book metadata database.
WorldCat is run by the non-profit organization OCLC and works with tens of thousands of libraries globally. Its database is proprietary and not freely available but Anna’s Archive managed to bypass the restrictions, to make their own copy freely available.
“Even though OCLC is a non-profit, their business model requires protecting their database. Well, we’re sorry to say, friends at OCLC, we’re giving it all away,” Anna’s Archive notes.
PS: We do want to give a genuine shout-out to the Worldcat team. Even though it was a small tragedy that your data was locked up, you did an amazing job at getting 30,000 libraries on board to share their metadata with you. As with many of our releases, we could not have done it without the decades of hard work you put into building the collections that we now liberate. Truly: thank you.
The meta-search engine says it managed to scrape a staggering three terabytes of metadata. The dataset includes 1.3 billion unique IDs that, after removing duplicates and other noise, equate to 700 million unique records.

Got through putting like 5 of my (apparently 47??!) podfics into a spreadsheet for upload to the audiofic archive today. At least a few were already there, plus some things on mediafire and also one on google drive??? I will have everything in multiple online places eventually but apparently it’s going to take a while. Honestly surprised mediafire continues to function.
Looked back at the last one I posted and it was ITPE. God it has been A Year™️
#podfic#archiving#at least my own copies are pretty well kept#hosting#did any of you already invent a script that scrapes the metadata needed do audio fic archive submission#bc that is what is killing me#but I know podiccers get up to all kinds of stuff

another offence you may not realise is reportable and actionable is that less than kind dni tags. saying you do not want A/B readers to read your A & B fic is fine, telling them to kys is not. Additionally, telling them you will chuck them in a garbage bin for being an A/B shipper is also not fine. Source: I reported a fic with the latter tag (paraphrased) and the next time I saw it, the offending tag was gone.
Reminders for new ao3 users (in no particular order):
- filter your searches like you would on a library website or in an online catalogue
- don’t post placeholders, fic searches, or recommendations as fics. DON’T! It’s against ao3 TOS
- there is no algorithm. ao3 sorts by date posted/updated unless you filter with specific search criteria
- ao3 is a non profit. that means it doesn’t sell ads to make money — it only survives on donations. this is why it can show you so many fics without ever flashing an ad or pop up at you!
- report fics that break TOS when you see them (I.e., placeholder fics, searches) to help other users navigate better
- the tag “dead dove, do not eat” doesn’t equate to gore/awfulness automatically. it is a complementary tag that enhances current tags. E.g., if the fic is tagged “gore” and “dead dove, do not eat” the author really wants you to mind the gore tag
- most fandoms have a variation of “no beta, we die like (x character)” and they all link back to the “No beta” tag
- publishing a new fic sometimes means it won’t show up in the fandom/pairing tag for a few minutes
- subscribers receive update emails at different times, depending on when you update/publish your fic. there’s no good way to predict when an e-mail will be sent — it can be in 30 seconds, or two hours later
- some fics are restricted by authors to those with ao3 accounts only. if you see a blue lock in the upper right corner, that fic is only visible to logged in ao3 users
- you can block commenters now! this didn’t use to be a thing
- updating a fic just to stay at the top of the pairing tag/fandom tag is a dick move. unless you’re legitimately editing or adding chapters, this just annoys readers and fellow authors, and people will skip over your fic
#long post#if you can guess who a/b is in this instance congrats because i'm certain no one will#because i'm squicked by a/b as well but i will be their ally because metadata on the archive should be neutral at best

Abstract
"The article aims to reflect on the Lodovico media library, a digital repository preserving the digitised cultural heritage of the Emilia-Romagna region. The first part covers the project’s history and the challenges encountered during its setup phase, and we also explore the co-creation approach employed in defining the metadata architecture. The discussion extends by outlining the key features of shared metadata, illustrating their application to diverse digital objects within the Lodovico media library. Following a concise examination of the methodology for collecting/creating data and the initial research findings, the article concludes by highlighting the project’s potential in the realm of automatic handwriting recognition processes."
Section 3.1 has a really nice explanation and model for how a metadata architecture for a collection is created, and how flexible Dublin Core can be.
