Gold
blue: preferred type of weather? That's a good question - and one that should be on my mind the next time I move. I guess the years I spent in Algarve (southern coast of Portugal) taught me to appreciate a mildly warm weather… and I appreciate it even more now, that I live in a place where you can have temperatures bellow 0 ºC and above 40 ºC.
But, at the same time, I understand how comforting can the rain feel. However, that demands a place where you can enjoy the rain comfortably. Or the cold weather. Or even the snow. And that's exactly what I haven't got.
Answering your question directly: I prefer mild days, but all weather can be poetic, romantic and inspiring in the right context, in the right place and, eventually, with the right people around.
gold: do you wear your socks mismatched? No. My life may be a complete mess, but not my socks.
Thank you so much - and let me wish you a wonderful week:)

Lewis Hamilton: 'Not bad for a boy from a council estate' | Racing News

Lewis Hamilton: 'Not bad for a boy from a council estate' | Racing News
PORTIMAO (Portugal): Lewis Hamilton cemented his position as one of Formula One‘s true greats when the six-time world champion claimed a record 92nd race win on Sunday, another staggering achievement “for a boy from a council house”. His victory at the Algarve International Circuit allowed him to pass the previous best mark set by seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher. The son of a black father and a white mother, who survived a broken home in his youth, Hamilton, 35, grew up on a municipal housing estate where his father Anthony at one time held down three jobs to fund his son’s embryonic racing career in karts.
His journey was unprivileged and without luxury, but it was clear from an early age that he had an outstanding gift for speed and all the gutsy natural instincts of a born racer. In 1995, aged 10, and wearing a jacket and shoes borrowed from his predecessor as British Formula Cadet karting champion, he went to a glittering awards ceremony in London where he met McLaren‘s then-boss Ron Dennis. He asked for an autograph and told him “one day I want to race for you”. Dennis replied: “Phone me in nine years and I’ll sort you a deal.” Bold, determined and individual, he almost won the title in his first record-breaking season as he reeled off nine successive podiums from his debut in Melbourne, rocking the establishment along the way with his speed and his style. On and off the track, he was fast, somewhat mercurial and occasionally tempestuous and this combination led to a fierce rivalry with team-mate and two-time champion Fernando Alonso at McLaren. That was a signal of how tough it was to be for all his future team-mates as Hamilton, who narrowly missed out on the 2007 title, returned to triumph in 2008 with a dramatic last-gasp fifth-place finish in Brazil. He also showed frustration as McLaren failed to deliver the speed to beat Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull, who reeled off four straight title triumphs from 2010 to 2013, by when Hamilton had departed for Mercedes. Escaping the management regime of Dennis and his father, Hamilton found freedom at Mercedes alongside team-mate Nico Rosberg, his teenage karting friend and rival. This enabled Hamilton to express himself with a headline-grabbing trans-Atlantic lifestyle, mixing with musicians and ‘fashionistas’. He showed little love for any duty to obey conventions and, for many observers, gave his sport a welcome injection of freshness and diversity as champion again in 2014 and 2015. Rosberg broke Hamilton’s sequence of supremacy in 2016 and then retired, leaving the Englishman to dominate. His former McLaren team-mate Jenson Button summed up Hamilton’s pure speed when he said: “For me, over one lap, I don’t think there is anyone as quick as Lewis and I don’t think there ever has been.” That speed, which has always been a natural talent, has in recent seasons been allied to a more mature attitude to his job as team leader. Mercedes team chief Toto Wolff once summed up: “He is never satisfied. He never settles. He is never happy with where he is as a racing driver and a human being.” Having achieved so much as his sport’s best-known ambassador, Hamilton’s interest in social issues has emerged more frequently. Last season, he posted his concerns for the environment and revealed a fleeting despair at the state of the world when he used Instagram to declare that the planet was “a messed-up place” and he felt he wanted “to give up”. That commentary, including revelations about his vegan lifestyle, led to him being accused of hypocrisy. “I’m only human,” he said. “Like everyone, we have up and down days. That’s what I’ve been really trying to convey.” This year has seen him press for greater diversity in the paddock, a push sparked by his vocal support for the Black Lives Matter movement. His own career and his quest for self-expression and freedom has shaped his advice for young drivers. “What I can definitely advise any kid that’s out there trying to race is don’t listen to people who tell you that you need a mental coach or you need someone to help control your mind,” he said. “You need to let it run wild and free and discover yourself. It is all about discovery. And only you can do it.” When Hamilton wrapped up his sixth world title in Texas last year, his father Anthony summed up his son’s achievement: “It’s absolutely amazing and not bad for a boy from a Stevenage council house.”

I genuinely believe when it comes to fascist architecture portugal just straight up won the fucking race because yall have no idea how out of our mind we fucking were with these projects, take a moment to smell the fascism with these rejected projects for a monument to Henry the Navigator in Algarve:
Tumblr media
a monument to Sagres, the famous ‘school of sailors’ that never existed
Tumblr media
“dilating the faith and the empire” yes that is the project’s official name. the sun would shine atop that... conical thing or whatever which would create this gloriously fascist effect
Tumblr media
idk what this is celebrating but that shit would be set alight during the night and the dude at the front is Henry the Navigator so you get the gist
Tumblr media
my man Cassiano Branco whipped out his inner vanguardist and straight up did something nobody could fucking understand what it was supposed to be though it’s pretty obvious. it’s the lesser eye-sore of the contenders so far
Tumblr media
in case you forgot we really loved caravels
Tumblr media
in case you forgot again we really love caravels and the cross of christ from our coat of arms. oh hey there’s henry the navigator again
Tumblr media
i
Tumblr media
pp..please.. boys...
Tumblr media
another ramp to launch henry the navigator into fucking space
Tumblr media
well FINALLY somethng that isnt a triangular mess meant to evoke caravels though i dead ass have no idea what that thing is supposed to be. a castle?? the aqueduct??
Tumblr media
contemplate The Obelisk
Tumblr media
what the fuck

Hey Mandelene! As a season world traveller, such as yourself! Can you spare some advice for amateur journeymen? In a few days I'll be travelling from Ontario, Canada to Portugal, with my Family to vacation in The Algarve. It's my first voyage across the pond! Air travel isn't alien to me, like many Canadians, I fly south to the Caribbean but I have never flown off continent as grown adult. Do you have any tips for a Transatlantic Flight ? PS. Hope you have a safe trip back to home to The States!
I'd hardly consider myself a seasoned world traveler, haha, but that's great and I hope you have an amazing time! Travelling with family makes things a lot less stressful so I can't imagine you'll encounter any significant problems.
My biggest tip is to definitely pack light. You always think you're going to need more stuff than you actually end up using. You may also want to buy clothes/souvenirs there so keeping extra room in your suitcase for that is a good idea. It's also so nice to know you are under the weight limit for your bag and don't need to worry about extra fees.
Stay hydrated, give yourself time to recuperate from jetlag (says the person who has no time to recuperate lmao), and most importantly, enjoy your trip! If the flight to Portugal is an overnight flight, definitely try to sleep a little on the plane. Stay aware of the local time at your destination and try to keep yourself awake until it's nighttime there once you arrive so you don't mess up your sleep schedule too much.
Don't stress about little things if there's stuff that gets in the way. Usually, things never go exactly according to plan but that's okay -- just embrace it. 😆
Safe travels and have a blast!
(And thank you! I get on my flight in exactly 14 hours and need to try to stay awake for as long as possible so I can be exhausted on the flight and sleep since I land in LA at like 7:15 AM lol. I had a latté just a little while ago at 7pm. If I don't sleep on the way to LA, I'm going to be really miserable when I get to NY. 😂)

90, 92 & 96
90. Hmm my favorite city... There isn't really one because I don't like cities BUT I'll show you my favorite town, my birthplace Carvoeiro, in Algarve, Portugal. It's a town where downtown is a small plaza in front of a small beach, sided by falésias on both sides, white houses, yellowish brown rock and a green ocean contrast way too well. Let's just say I feel right at home playing Assassins Creed Odyssey.
Here she is, photo from Google:
Tumblr media
And here's one of my own:
Tumblr media
92. I'm not fond of pasta with ONLY cheese. I need a sauce. So I sprinkle only a bit on top.
96. I absolutely install them as soon as possible. My bedroom may be a mess but I'm paranoid with tidying up my computer, updates and folders etc 😂

I’ve been tagged by @portugue and, being so, I it’s time to do this.
about me:
- My name is Miguel. Actually, most people think my name is Fabien, but that is no more than a reference to the tragic hero of Saint-Exupéry's "Night Flight" (”Vol de Nuit” in the original).
- I'm... well, I feel like I'm 86, and I suspect that, very soon, I will be a hundred years old.
- I have a masters in History and Heritage. As some of you know, my thesis about the mysterious Twin Chapels of Tavira required a colossal amount of effort and dedication. It is almost a miracle that the thesis even exists, but it does - and it is finished.
- I am also graduated in Modern and Contemporary History.
- My next academic step is the doctorate. I am already working on the project for a new (possible) thesis.
- Somehow, I know that I will also end up taking an Archaeology degree - probably, another masters degree.
- One of my professors once took me to the first recent excavation of the lost roman town of Balsa, in the Algarve (southern Portugal). My knowledge in that area is not, by any means, huge... but it was absolutely awesome to be there. Seriously. You have no idea - a lost roman port-town. It is impossible to describe the feeling - I was there, where Balsa, one of the two civitas of the Algarve, once stood, and where its remains are still buried (most of them, at least).
- This trip to Balsa was very important for a saga I am working on. And I must work hard on that project as well.
- In the end, I know that Art History and Archaeological are just distractions. My goal is to become a writer.
my hobbies:
- That is how messed up my life became: I have no hobbies as such, other that reading a bit before sleep (or when I happen to be on a queue... and that doesn't happen frequently).
- When I have some time - and when depression doesn't put me down -, I also like to explore interesting places and photograph them (art historians use photography as a working tool).
- I have a soft spot for chapels and hermitages.
- When I need some inspiration, I also like to go for a very long walk on the beach. Sadly, that hasn't been possible for many, many reasons (including this horrid pandemic).
what I like talking about:
- I don't have specific topics, to be honest.
- And no, I am not just focused on History and Archaeology. My rage of interests is A LOT wider than that. History is just an academic subject, but I would have to be extremely narrow-minded to be focused exclusively on that.
- Anyone is always free to drop me a line.
(thank you)

Welcome to the shit show: arriving in Vienna
During our last day in the Algarve, Bridget and I checked out of our bed & breakfast and hung around town and on the beach before our train left for Lisbon at 3pm. We made some friends on the train as our seats were sandwiched between a two talkative groups: a kindergarten field trip and an elementary school’s handball team. We arrived at our Airbnb that evening and immediately set out to make the most of our short time in Lisbon. We took an uber to Miradouro da Graça, a beautiful plaza / lookout near the heart of town.
Tumblr media
We were trying to make the most of our daylight so we power walked from there to the other side of town, seeing as much as we could see along the way. Before we called it a night we stopped by the most iconic pastel de nata place, Pastéis de Belém. Overall review: glad we went, but we had better ones elsewhere.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We woke up bright and early the next morning to catch a flight to Vienna. The plane itself was one of the best ones I’d ever rode on. Good job, TAP Portugal. When things got bumpy, I popped my anxiety medication and immediately felt relief. The trick with anxiety medication for panic attacks and short term release is to take it when you need it, not preemptively. In this situation it was perfect timing because shortly after the drugs kicked in, a crowd of people started congregating a few rows ahead of us, followed shortly by an announcement, “could any doctors on board please step forward.” That’s right, Oma went into cardiac arrest mid-flight! We were too close to Vienna to land the plane anywhere else, so they lifted her body over the seats and carried her unconscious body to an area in first class. When we landed EMS, police and a firetruck were waiting.
I arrived a day late to the program from Portugal which really messed things up more than I anticipated. When I landed, everyone was busy with orientation; the staff was out of the office and my roommates were out of the apartment. The person in charge of my orientation was not answering the phone so Bridget and I waited in the airport and ate a sandwich until someone returned my calls. Once they gave me the okay to go to my apartment, we took the b-e-a-u-tiful train from the airport to city center. Got on another train closer to my apartment and Bridget’s Airbnb, then walked about a mile to my new place!
I had about 10 minutes to freshen up before my RA, another latecomer and I headed off to the welcome dinner at a vineyard outside the city. I was too nauseous and dehydrated from all the traveling to actually eat anything, but I sat and made small talk with some other girls interning in Vienna this summer.
We got some practice using public transport, making our way back to the apartments. I finally met my roommates, all very sweet Midwest girls.
That night, my roommates and I joined up with the boys dorm across the hall and went to hang out by the Danube (that’s something people do there). People bring booze and just sit around in groups and hang out. We found a nice grassy patch of real estate, sat in a circle and listened to this rock band finish their set across the way. It was fun talking to people but also just seeing the nightlife of Austrian twenty-somethings play out. We were in the thick of it. At times like these, the language barrier is the toughest. After a drink or two we got up and walked further down where there were some outward facing bars and lounges, food trucks, people playing music and an overall more lively, but similar scene. We made our way back to the apartments around 10:30 or so, not too late, and had a good night’s rest.

Portugal Day 7!!
This morning, we slept in a little and ate breakfast at the hotel. They cooked us eggs and bacon and some toast! We went and rode the Santa Justa elevator, which we weren’t able to do the other day due to the long line. It took us to the top to catch some great views of Lisbon! Beautiful! After that, we walked around a little more and picked up some lunch to go. We packed up our stuff and left the hostel in Lisbon!
We took a taxi to the bus station and hopped on a bus to Lagos in the Algarve (Southern) region of Portugal. Bus ride was nice and calming. About 4 hours down to the coast. We ate lunch on the bus. We listened to music and I watched some tv that I had downloaded onto my iPad.
When we arrived in Lagos, we checked into our hotel and changed. We immediately set out to walk along allllll of the beaches in Lagos. There are quite a few of them! And they are all at the bottom of giant cliffs. So we hiked all over the place. Up and down the cliffs, up hills to the next beaches. It took us several hours!!! It was worth it though. So many amazing cliff and rock formations. The sun was going down so it was beautiful! By the time we made it to the last point, it was getting really windy and cold. A rainstorm was coming in, so we were not able to see the actual sunset. But it was still beautiful, nevertheless. We then walked a half hour back into town in the dark and found a lovely little restaurant for dinner. And then we walked back to our hotel in the rain!! Just finished taking a nice hot shower.
I’m a little worried about the poor weather forecast for tomorrow, that it may mess with our plans to see some sea caves. But that’s ok! Whatever happens, happens. At least we got some amazing pictures of the beaches today! Can’t wait to share more of them!! Night!

Hank: Mama?
Me: (laying down to quiet my poor nerves) Hum?
Hank: I am sorry to disturb you.
Me: You are never a disturbance, Hank.
Hank: Okay, but it’s time for my present from Vienna, Austria and I thought you’d want to see it.
Me: Oh yes, I do! (getting up gingerly)
Hank: Do you need help?
Me: Nope, but I need my camera. Conference presents are like Christmas presents.
Hank: (waiting to walk with me to the table) When I grow up I want a job where I get to go to conferences like papa.
Me: Conferences mean an endless stream of tote bags and monogramed pens as well as professional development and the interchange of ideas in your field.
Hank: Do writers and artists have conferences?
Me: Certainly.
Pai: It’s time!
Me: Shall I make some tea?
Pai: Let’s open this first. (presenting Hank with a wrapped package) I bought this for Hank in abeautiful chocolate shop in downtown Vienna, Anzinger Confiserie.
Hank: It is big so I think I am going to share it. I don’t know yet, but I think I am. I don’t feel selfish yet.
Me: (giggling) Save the paper. Oh Hank, look at this beautiful paper. When life used to be all goods were wrapped in paper. Everything was a present.
Hank: Yes, I will save it and put it in my special Sarabeth Noodle-Made Book***. The one with pockets where I write my secrets.
Pai: You have so many beautiful journals but that one is my favorite.
Me: Mine, too.
Hank: Mama, help me open this so I don’t rip the paper.
Me: With pleasure. Look how fine the illustrations are.
Hank: Was this shop by your hotel, papa?
Pai: Sort of. There was a wonderful granny working at the shop and she had been to Algarve and Lisbon and she helped me pick out your treat. This is very special and very traditional to Vienna. She was very helpful. I was just going to get you some chocolates but she helped me change my mind.
Hank: OH! Look at the box! I am going to keep this box forever.
Me: Classy.
Hank: (popping the lid) Oh papa!
Me: How lovely.
Hank: I can’t wait. Thank you, papa!
Molly: CAKE! Quero (I want) CAKE!!! CAKE!
Hank: Papa, you cut it I don’t want to mess it up it is so pretty.
Pai: Alright.
Hank: This I have to share with everyone.
Me: Very generous of you, buddy.
Molly: CAKE!
Pai: (slicing) I don’t think you sister would give you another choice.
Molly: CAAAAKKKKEEE! (pointing)
Pai: (doling out slices to everyone leaving himself for last)
Hank: (not waiting and diving in)
Me: (following his lead)
Molly: (shoving practically a whole slice in her mouth)
Pai: (just sitting down to his piece)
Hank: (mouth full) Um…
Me: (mouth full, laughing)
Molly: (spatting out half of the cake from her mouth)
Pai: What?
Me: (genuine belly laughing, unable to answer)
Hank: Um… Well.
Pai: Don’t tell me… (tasting the cake)
Me: (laughing tears into my eyes)
Pai: (throwing down his fork) It’s not fresh.
Hank: It was probably great when it was fresh, but it is dry now.
Me: (reading the box lid) Is Sachertorte German for mediocre? (return to belly laughing)
Pai: I am sorry, Hank. Argh. This is like Fatima all over again.
Hank: What is like Fatima?
Me: When your Grammy Kate and Grandpa Snitch visited Portugal the first time from America we took them to the holy city of Fatima and after visiting we stopped into a shop selling traditional Portuguese cakes. It wasn’t a proper pastelaria (pastry shop), but like a pop-up shop on our way to the car and they had boxes and boxes of seemingly yummy offerings so we over bought because your Pai wanted to give is sogros (In-Laws) a taste of the finer things of Portugal and when we got on the road we dipped into the sweets and everything was stale. They committed the biggest sin in Portugal in the holiest of places: selling stale pastry that should have been thrown away.
Pai: I have never recovered. I was so upset that I had been fooled. Just like now.
Hank: It’s fine, papa. How did you know? You couldn’t know. That granny lied to you and maybe she didn’t know, too.
Me: You got hustled, my love. She was a cake hustler.
Pai: (utterly defeated) Damn it. She was so nice.
Me: Did she up sell you?
Pai: YES!
Me: Yup, you got cake hustled. She needed to move that product. I bet she made her numbers that day.
Hank: The day this cake was made it was great and that is what I am imagining.
Me: Tea? Milk? I think I have cake stuck in my esophagus. (pounding my chest)
Hank: Tea will make this cake great. I love my present, papa, thank you.
Pai: (shaking his head, defeated) She was so nice.
Me: (from the kitchen) She was a cake hustler. You got played.
Molly: No quero cake. (I don’t want cake) Que Nojo (super gross).
Pai: (retrieving her plate before she pitches the cake to the floor) Hey, it’s not that bad, Amália.
Molly: B-yuck.
Me: (returning with the tea box) Kettle is on and who wants milk? (both Molly and Hank’s arms shoot into the air)
Pai: I am so disappointed.
Hank: I’m not. We made a memory and someday when we all visit Vienna we can go to this shop and stand outside and not buy a thing and remember this day.
Me: That is a great idea, Hank.
Pai: I would have preferred if we loved the cake and then had another reason to visit the shop again. Man.
Hank: It’s fine!
Me: (singing on my way back into the kitchen for the kettle and the milk) You can’t always get what you want, but you can try sometimes and you just might find, you get what you neeheed!

Points of Departure by Emily O'Beirne
Read: July 2016
Rating: 5 Stars
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Ylva Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author.
Five young women all of whom, I believe, are 18, are nearing the ends of their high school years. One, who is a friend to them all, and the glue that holds the various parties together, has come up with a plan to travel together. That would be Kit. Kit has roped in Liza, super athlete/runner/lesbian/BFF of Kit; Olivia and Mai (they seem to get lumped together for whatever reason; they hang out in the same social group – Olivia and Mai – they also are deeply into ‘law’ and taking that when they go to ‘uni’); and Tam – Kit’s cousin. All but Tam are from Melbourne Australia, and all attended the same high school. Though Liza has mostly been off on her own training and running so, while she knows all of them, she only is friends with Kit. Tam, obviously, knows Kit, being cousins, and Liza – and is from Tasmania (an island state of Australia; until I looked that up just now, I was thinking Tasmania was a separate country).
Beyond ‘Australian’, the ancestral make-up of Olivia, Tam, and Kit is not given. Liza, beyond being ‘Australian’, is half-Dutch and half-Sri Lanka (known to me as the place Arthur C. Clarke lived before his death; an island off the coast of India). Being half-Dutch and half-Sri Lankan apparently corresponds to being ‘Burgher people’, which is picked up along the way. Mai, another person born in Australia, has a Vietnamese mother and Chinese father.
So that’s the main cast of characters. Four of which have their own point of views in this book (I’ve off and on wished Mai had her point of view as well, because she seems quite interesting; constantly excited; etc. I’m sure if we did have her point of view it’d be filled with self-doubt and angst, because, hey, that’s what everyone else is, but still. I live with the dream that her POV would not be that).
Shortly before the five are to take off on their trip, Kit has to inform them (separately) that she will not be able to go. Because she has, once again, messed up her life. The money she had saved up for the trip is gone. Gone to massive debt brought on by rent money being due, and damages to a statue that has to be covered. So the glue that was holding the group together will not be able to go. Don’t worry, though, her point of view remains. Three of the four going on the trip give the reader their versions of the on-going trip, while Kit gives readers some insight into being a young woman living in Australia.
Right, so – Melbourne and Tasmania are encountered first by the reader – since that’s where the characters are ‘coming from’. Then there’s a stopover in Hong Kong (just the airport). Then off to Portugal (Algarve, Lisbon), Italy (Florence, Trieste, and Venice), Slovenia (Bled, Ljubljana), England (London), and Thailand (Kata, Phuket).
Before starting the trip (weeks, months? I forget now), Liza has informed her parents of two issues 1) she’s a lesbian; 2) she is giving up running competitively (or is thinking of giving it up). Tam is super worried about her father (he’s recovering from cancer); and, somewhat on the spur of the moment, begins a relationship with a nearby young man named Matt – so she’s super distracted by that while on the trip. And Olivia’s super distracted by knowing that she messed up her VCE (whatever that is), the tests people going off to ‘uni’ apparently take to decide their courses of study (at least that’s what I got from context; otherwise I’d think of them as the Australian equivalent of the SAT; except that the SAT does not determine courses of study); and is worried about how her friends (social group; and specifically Mai) will react; plus she’s super duper interested in reestablishing some form of relationship with her ex-best friend and ex-boyfriend Will. Mai? No idea. We do not have her point of view (from things said here or there, she might have some worries about the VCE results as well, perhaps). To a certain extent, without being inside Mai’s head, all we know is that she’s very chatty, excitable, boy crazy, and has a need to constantly party (probably connected to how restrictive her parents are – being on the trip frees her from them).
So, fairly early one the reader learns that they are following along as three supposedly heterosexual women who mostly do not know each other vacation abroad – plus one lesbian with limited social skills. Oh, and not everyone on the trip knows that Liza is a lesbian.
On one level, the book was somewhat difficult to follow along because everyone who has a point of view has reasons to be super depressing and angst filled. And the only one who doesn’t seem to be that way, doesn’t have their point of view expressed directly (though may or may not be as angsty as everyone else). On the other hand, the angst/drama is both reasonable and not overwhelming.
In terms of the trip/vacation/etc – I did get a feeling, a certain sense, of the various locations. Not a very deep sense, but more than just a vague feeling of movement. It’s about on par as a bunch of 18 year olds traveling around (there’s one scene that I can use as an example – Tam and Liza are on a bench in London. The sky, as might be imagined, since it is London, is dreary and it has just finished misting. Both are tired and dealing with issues. They just sit there on the bench looking at stuff directly around them. At one point one mentions to the other that the changing of the guard is about to occur. Neither can get the strength to get up, so they both continue sitting there starring at squirrels and thinking thoughts within their heads).
There’s certain ‘things’ of an Australian nature that I never did learn. Things that may or may not have been explained or explainable from context. Some I just never figured out. Like I have assumptions about the VCE. But there’s an item of clothing that Liza is constantly putting on or taking off that I haven’t a foggiest idea what it could possibly be. And I Googled it. Got nowhere. So, what the bloody hell is a ‘slinget’? Bah, I misspelled the word when I put it in my status updates. It’s a singlet not a slinget. What the hell do I know? I’ve never seen the word before in my life. (I’ve seen people on tv put that on to wrestle, but I didn’t know what the garment’s name was).
Long and short – this was an enjoyable read. Though filled with teenagers with teenager like angst/deep feelings filling them. If I was to deduct any points specifically, it would probably correspond to how Mai lacked her own point of view. In the end I kind of liked her best of all. I’m sad now.

We Force The Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GTE Race Automobile
ORTIMAO, Portugal — All of us want a fact to take a look at every now and then. In early 2015, I had a pass in a pinnacle-spec Subaru rally Automobile and the ultra-crazy, Method 1-inspired Lotus T125 tune Vehicle. Connecting with every turned into difficult notwithstanding vast familiarity with many reason-built race cars through the years, and I walked away with my tail slightly between my legs. While Aston Martin Racing (AMR) invited me to Force its FIA World Endurance Challenge-spec V8 Vantage GTE factory race Vehicle in Portugal, I was venerated and pleased, however a hint frightened.
Examining the front-engine Aston within the garage at Algarve (Portimao) Global Circuit doesn’t oust the butterflies. We’re speakme prototype-levels of engineering and detailing. The aerodynamic additions are widespread, especially the large, new-for-2016 carbon-fiber rear diffuser.
Surveying the cabin continues my awe. First, there’s the extremely aft seating position. Additionally, filling the could-be passenger place are an array of computers and mil-spec wiring. Yes, the competition Car resembles the road-going V8 Vantage, but best on the identical level that I’m like Daniel Craig virtually because of our delivery certificates each country we’re male.
Speakme of 12-cylinder engines, the V8 Vantage GTE race Car doesn’t bring a powerplant with a dozen cylinders. Perhaps the name gave it away? The 4.five-liter V-8 is manufacturing-primarily based but the internals is bespoke, allowing the motor to broaden more or less 550 horsepower in race trim and run in anger for 5,000 kilometers (three, aone hundred miles) before needing a rebuild — very extraordinary foranopposition engine. Sayers tells me that putting off the collection-mandated air restrictors would bump power by approximately 10 percentage. He provides, “There’s no rpm limit [in the rules] however we shift at round 7,500 rpm and redline is near eight,000 rpm. We continuously examine whether or not we must switch to the V-12 [like the lower-spec GT3 race car]. however in phrases of efficiency, mass and packaging, the V-eight makes for a better race engine.”
That race-spec V-eight sounds incredible as factory AMR motive force, Marco Sørensen, warms-up the auto. Sørensen is aware of the Aston properly, as he and co-driver, Nick Thiim, piloted No. ninety five to each the teams’ and drivers’ championships in 2016. Oh, and this actual race Vehicle looking ahead to my a ways-less-skilled butt Also completed on the pinnacle step of the rostrum on the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2014 and gained that 12 months’s FIA WEC championship, both inside the LM GTE-Am category. Sørensen returns the car to the pit container and the crew raises it with the essential air jacks. My flip.
Mountain climbing into the tight cockpit isn’t tough via race Automobile requirements but it’s by no means a spacious surroundings, specifically with each protection nets clipped into region. There’s a plethora of buttons on the rectangular guidance wheel and middle console, but development engineer John Ogden truly tells me not to mess with whatever — simply Pressure the car. No trouble there, John.
Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2
While most people communicate about Ferrari they reflect onconsideration on and speak both the single passenger pure race cars or the two passenger sports activities racing or the two passenger street cars. Very little is ever referred to approximately the four passenger vehicles.
Ferrari determined to build a four passenger Car in order that the organization ought to get into additional markets. However, one of the choices he made turned into that it had to have rather than four doorways. To this point, as a ways as I will inform, the manufacturing unit has by no means produced a 4 door version for the overall client.
The Mission confronted by means of the organisation become to make a four passenger Car on their contemporary seat chassis. In later years they had been faced with the equal problem, and that they got here up with the 308 GT/four, now not a especially famous Car.
In 1960 they solved the trouble with the 250 GTE 2+2. was it a hit? properly approximately 950 of them have been made, which makes it the pinnacle supplier in the 250 series.
The designation of 250 GTE 2+2 because the version variety became based on several factors. First the 250 represented in cubic centimeters the cylinder length of one of the V12 cylinders. The GT turned into for Grand Travelling and the E become from the 508E, a new chassis layout. The 2+2 intended that the front passengers observed a everyday sized area up front, and the +2 supposed that could take a seat in the rear. For this Car the 2 rear seat passengers had good enough however now not spacious room. Many different brands have used The 2+2 designation, but in the general public of instances, the rear region had no leg room. It turned into more of a marketing ploy to satisfy a few government guidelines about the need for large capability vehicles.
The 250 GTE 2+2 turned into rated at 235bhp, barely lower than the standard 250 series Car. It had an uncommon tools box with four speeds and an electric powered overdrive. Disc brakes have been equipped all around. The pinnacle speed turned into listed as 136mph, again lower than other 250 collection models. However, take into account that this precise Vehicle become designed as a road Automobile and no longer a sports racing car. other great factors had been a generous boot to keep luggage, and stepped forward heating and air flow for the passenger’s comfort.
At the same time as an wonderful handling Automobile and a tremendous Touring Vehicle, The 2+2 does not rival the opposite 250’s with regards to the used Automobile marketplace. It has been regular of Ferrari 2+2’s that the unique charges are better than the associate seat versions, they depreciate tons faster and are much less well-known with the aid of collectors. A 1961 model with 34,000 miles changed into currently marketed in England for $134,000. Nonetheless a whole lot of cash for a used Vehicle, but not anything like what different Ferrari collector vehicles would carry.
Dennis Dater has been interested by motors on the grounds that he drove a 1952 MG TD to highschool. He is an professional creator with over 70 articles right here and lots of extra on his diverse net sites. Presently He’s growing two new internet sites which might be designed for performance automobile components.
