The Patches of the Coven of Elders 🪡🧵
In addition to my personal obsession with all these badass witches, I also wanted fans like me to be able to rep their favorite witches in an aesthetically cool way, and hence the Witchy Merit Badges were born!
Here are some close-ups:

Fun fact: the middle patch is based on the Hay Necronomicon, a Lovecraftian symbol based on the Elder Sign star

Achievement Unlocked: The "Starring Linda Darnell" Criterion Channel Collection!
Recently my co-protagonist, who is so deeply into movies I call him a ‘film elemental’, decided to indulge in a Criterion Channel subscription. This has proven to be a lot of fun, and we’ve barely scratched the surface of their offerings yet.
The first curated ‘collection’ we took a look at was “Starring Linda Darnell,” because the blurbs and teaser promised us an actress we didn’t know* but whose repertoire included a lot of snark, tempestuous rages, and throwing things at male co-stars. We like all those things! (Men in old movies basically always deserve it.)
Tumblr media
*I had seen Mark of Zorro as a kid and loved it, but hadn’t remembered the name of the lovely young actress.
We rampaged through this collection night by night. Linda Darnell was an AMAZING actress, with incredible range. She’s also so gorgeous she is, in herself, a lighting effect; but that’s not just her inborn beauty but how deftly she uses it. She started (astoundingly young for a leading lady) as an ingenue, but pivoted to rôles for 'bad girls' and more complex, world-weary women. Whatever part she played, she brought it interiority, charisma, and passion. Her delight is infectious; her rueful humor cuts like a knife.
Tumblr media
The collection includes a few movies that are memorable chiefly for Linda Darnell’s part (Fallen Angel); a few that are great movies where her part is limited but stupendously executed (My Darling Clementine, Unfaithfully Yours, the totally underrated Hangover Square); and a few that are great partly because Joseph Mankiewicz deployed the hell out of Linda Darnell’s nuanced talents (No Way Out, A Letter to Three Wives.)
Tumblr media
When we finished Hangover Square (after we’d recovered from how crazy-good it is) we realized we had successfully watched the whole collection. (We were worried it would go away with the new month! But it’s still there, if you’re also film-mad enough to get the Criterion Channel!) “They should give us an achievement for watching the whole collection,” said Ryan. The Criterion Channel does not give achievements.
So I fixed that for them! I thought I was just making this for me and Ryan, but I just discovered that the Criterion Collection/Channel logo is considered too simple to copyright, so I decided to post it here! For any other Criterion Channel watchers who have binged the whole thing (or enthusiasts of old movies who pulled this together on your own), *ding* YOU EARNED AN ACHIEVEMENT!
Tumblr media
To earn this achievement, watch:
The Mark of Zorro (1940)
Star Dust (1940)
Blood and Sand (1941)
Fallen Angel (1945)
Hangover Square (1945)
My Darling Clementine (1946)
Forever Amber (1947)
Unfaithfully Yours (1948)
A Letter to Three Wives (1949)
No Way Out (1950)
I would say "and stan Linda Darnell" but if you watch all these movies, you will not be able to refrain from stanning Linda Darnell.

went to the pub for a drink on my first real day off in over a week and watched the girl behind the bar drop the entire cash drawer on the floor in the middle of the rush and then just stare at it at her feet for like a solid two minutes

The products of trying to recreate what was going on outside the frame during the kiss. (for ENTIRELY SCIENTIFIC purposes)
@actual-changeling altered my whole outlook on life with this post about Aziraphale's left hand (I'd only been looking at his right hand) and I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I painted the rest of the fucking owl (and his bf).

Hello I've been working on my fix it pile! These were done yesterday and today.
During a car ride, I did some hand sewing on the pocket of my blue heathered sweatshirt. Photo below. (Top of pocket, both sides.)
Tumblr media
I tried reattaching a bra band and that ended poorly. I need to retry with pins (criminal error I know).
After this failure, I tied knots in the loose gathering stitches in the hem of these Patterned Pants. I was not about to try replacing them.
Tumblr media
After that I ironed on several backing patches to areas in need of reinforcement. Photos are of said blue sweatshirt and grey utility pants.

I then spent several hours on my Nice Grey Sweatpants, which had fallen victim to Thighs (Crouch Holes). I hemmed the backing patch first, since I was using Real Fabric (previously purchased, I matched the Type rather than color). Then I pinned it in place so that I could go over the holes areas with a buttonhole stitch. (I had much fun reading the sewing machine manual stitch guides.) After that, I removed the pins and used the X embroidery technique, whose name I forget, in a rectangular swirl. Photos of outside and inside below; black thread is the buttonhole stitches, and the light grey thread is the embroidery stitches (looks so beautiful outside, and like a strange and unusual wizard maze on the inside).

I finished the night off with placing the reinforcement stitches on the grey utility pants. Getting the sewing machine to Behave for the belt loops was Hard. The nice looking pocket reinforcement was hand sewn last spring. The iffy looking one goes over the previously placed patch. I love these pants :]

This morning, I decided to start easy and used my embroidery thread to repair ripped seams in my stuffed animals and also to reclose the entirety of the Hot Glue Poptart Pillow. (Photo below left to right: Growler, Acheron, Red Rex, and The Creeper. Poptart in bottom left.)
Tumblr media
For my final repair of the morning, I finished the blue sweatshirt repairs and added a decorative patch! Repair was the stitching for the iron-patched pocket corner. (Can be seen in the patch batch of photos.) Pictured below: Decorative patch, placed on the left breast side, my "Beaver Merit Badge" that my mother got me for my birthday this past year.
