i said id make a tierlist of fairy tail men based on how much of a smug motherfucker i think they are, and so guess what a bitch did

and ill put my thoughts under the cut bc i can(theres a lot of them fyi)

Fairy Tail is a series with an abundance of cocky bastards, smug motherfuckers, and annoying little shits(usually said w/ love). So I made the tiers accordingly:

Radiates cockiness constantly: self-explanatory. they're so smug you can like smell it on them. Jackassery off the charts(affectionate)

ofc Gajeel would be at the top of the list. you hear that man go "geehee" one time and its abundantly clear he's a smug motherfucker through and through. the people he's nicest to are Levy and Pantherlily, and he will still razz them all the time for shits and giggles. it doesnt matter if he's an enemy or an ally, Gajeel Redfox stays a jackass, and i love that for him.

Sting, has gotten less cocky over time. probs bc he got his ass beat so bad it was on the news. Before that tho, he was so cocky. he changed the vibe of sabertooth, bc everyone else was stonefaced. but post-smackdown he's gotten to be more goofy and cheerful(even if he is still brash & kind of a dick at times). I think its also bc he's guild master, and didn't want to be jiemma so he aimed for the opposite. plus lots of other guild masters have very goofy and/or jovial exteriors, and he's emulating that.

Dragon slayer tier: i said they were getting their own tier. i meant it.

natsu... is natsu, and he could fit in the top tier. But to me he radiates more goofiness than cockiness. like yes, he's a cocky little shit on the regular, but usually when natsu is being smug or bragging, its on behalf of others. ex: bragging about lucy's win over bixlow, cackling at how shocked everyone was over erza demolishing pandemonium, taunting the twin dragons in their fight less bc it was personal to him, but for his guild, etc.

Cobra/Erik: listen to him, basically every time he speaks you hear it. he's insufferable and he knows it. and its def bc of the hearing everything bit, bc its an "i know something you definitely don't" kind of smug.

Acnologia: i really have no thoughts about him, but like hes def smug about being a big bad evil guy. ok

Laxus was kinda like Sting in that he became less of a cocky asshole over the span of the show, partially bc he lost some teen angst and gained some perspective, but he's definitely still got the swagger of a guy who knows he can kick most anyone's ass in a moment's notice.

Rogue could probably be lower ngl. like he and wendy are the reasons i know that dragon slaying doesnt mean being over-confident. and like he also was in the his-ass-got-beat-so-bad-its-on-the-news thing but he is still generally pretty confident in his abilities, but hes not being over the top about it. i think he just lets sting take the lead there.

PLEASE beat his ass: these are the dudes that are so cocky that i find it grating. Jackassery off the charts(derogatory). altrnative titles: im beating you up, stfu tier, and DIE. DIE. DIE IN A PLANE CRASH

Zancrow is poster boy of this tier. hate his ass. i can't describe the face i make when i hear his laugh. the only good things he did were tell Meredy the truth about Ultear, then die horribly.

Bacchus: I do find his cockiness grating, but bc of the particular type of cockiness. because he's so misogynistic about it. like yeah, you won a drinking game, but that doesn't mean you can steal her bra off her back while she's passed out. yes, this guy agreed on a wager, but saying "if i win i get to sleep with both of your sisters at once"? ... ew.

bixlow is the one i mean this the least for. i was very happy to see Lucy whoop his ass, but post-fantasia, he's just kinda annoying, and i had to put him somewhere. he's like my detox so this tier doesnt make me punch something.

Mest on the other hand i want dead. like there's the obvious shit, but also he reads like a cop to me bc of all the shit he fully believes he can get away with, despite it being wildly corrupt. i hope your death is painful you scum

Taurus... what gives you the confidence to be saying that shit all the fucking time. also cockiness thats mixed with misogyny

It kinda depends tbh: basically these guys are fairly cocky, but it doesn't feel like the default. it should probs be like "vast majority of the time or something" idk.

Gray: i feel like im gonna get asked why he wasnt higher. listen hes definitely a smug jackass, im not saying he isnt, but it feels like he flips a switch to make that happen, otherwise he's just quietly brooding.

Zeref's curse probably plays a lot into how cocky he is, bc like when hes unintentionally emitting death blasts, theres nothing in the way of being smug, but like when we see him not caring about life, he's very sassy.

Lyon is in the same boat as gray tbh, but hes a bit more goofy id say. he's got more of a penchant for wanting to annoy his pseudo-brother than being a jackass, but when he atarts out, oh my lord, he's insufferable and pretentious so like he can vary.

Scorpio definitely had that one time he wasnt all "wicked" rock n roll and shit at least. i dunno we shouldve seen more of him outside of quick attacks and being aquarius' bf

Jet was wayyyyyyy cockier before tenrou. but even then he was seen as dependent on levy, and ofc he'd lose that type of stuff after the timeskip.

Prect/Hades: like he was mostly stoic and whatnot during ft zero, but then became a cocky asshole by going mad over like magic power and whatnot does put you into the yeah youre an ass sometimes tier

Capricorn: the guy means well, but like for deffos pretentious and a bit of a dick about it i thinks

Pretty boy smug(TM): this is kinda like the dragon slayer tier, but instead of smugness because of power, its bc of being attractive(this is functionally the middle tier fyi)

Loke: honestly he's got both kinds of smugness let's be real here. But given how he's very much a play boy(a renowned one in fact) and thats the main thing we know about him for a hot while, that's where the focus ends up. its all part of his flirtations at this point

Yuri: so he was actually supposed to be in the tier above pretty boy but then i was like "actually, this kinda checks and is pretty funny ngl." so yeah he's in pretty boy tier now.

pieces: i dunno man its just the vibes. we dont see enough of him in this form for me to get a real grasp on him.

the 3 blue pegasus motherfuckers(i aint listing them seperately): where the hell else would they go. its literally their whole thing

Self-assured ig: the first tier in they arent smug/cocky actually. i said fairy tail was full of cocky men. these guy's self confidence is either around or even below their general skill level

Pantherlily: the poster boy(cat?) for this. like Lily is a very confident guy, but he's got the skill to back that up as well as not trying to bite off more than he can chew. i wish we got to see more of him(totes not bc he's my favorite exceed and im biased)

Warrod: tbh he kinda seems to have less confidence than is probably merited for his power, but also hes usually so calm and nonchalant(or seemingly senile) that its really hard to tell that for sure

Cancer: listen the dude knows what hes good at, and that cutting hair, and given that lucy never summons him to ask about cutting anything else, i feel like that's a part of their contract or something.

droy: i dunno about droy. it feels like he was a generally normal guy but then he became the butt of a bunch of fat jokes and all of that makes it harder to read his character as a result. he seems normal

Alzack seems to have gotten more confident over time. i feel like its partially because how tied he is with Bisca, and while it feels like a detractor in earlier parts of the the series, after they get married, it seems like he's far more comfortable in the role of being her husband, and also being the best dad he can be for asuka. and like we stan a supportive husband and loving dad.

reedus.... hes normal ig. he paints and hes very proud of his abilities there. we really stop seeing him around like the grand magic games arc so eh?

sagittarius is in the same boat as cancer really. thats why theyre in the same tier

Catholic guilt tier: oh baby lets go its my favorite!!! this is where its like i dont think this is humility, i think this is some confidence issues or self-deprication

Jellal: god how could i have a catholic guilt tier and not put jellal in it? he reeks of that shit. and like sure, he was pretty cocky when he was evil and occasionally will have some general swagger when it comes to his fights, but that is so vastly outweighed by his severe self-worth issues and his constant desire to repent for his sins(you see where im getting the catholic guilt?). seeing him being cocky post-tower of heaven usually feels wrong and ooc, he's too much of a sad wet cat

Simon also kinda feels like he suffered from catholic guilt, but to a lesser degree. he also just had this vibe of consistently undervaluing himself, esp in comparison to the people around him(particularly with erza. hell esp with erza. he barely felt himself worthy of telling her he was in love with her ever)

freed may not radiate catholic guilt but he definitely doesnt radiate confidence in my eyes unless its confidence in Laxus. honestly hes lowkey catholic about laxus(specifically in reference to the one time he went on a job with Wendy and asked a laxus in the sky for advice?)

Mystogan may not be our main dimension's jellal, but he is still jellal, as seen by how he tries to take the fall constantly for reverse anima stuff.

Elfman: i feel like i may catch some heat for this, but like come on. i feel like his "oh im so manly all the time and im obessed with being a man" thing, is often a front, like hes trying to put on a brave facade for his sisters' sake. idk maybe its bc ive been watching the tartaros arc that i put him here but eh whatever

anybody else think about how tales of symphonia inspired in stars and time? i think about it. i love the tales of series sm guys...

given isat and symphonias connection, i wanted to make some sprite edits of the cast!! and a fake skit!! they look SO GOOD IN THE TALES STYLE AAAH this was rly fun set to do :D

i'd like to say off the bat, i got these sprites from tales-of-asteria-rips which were all ripped by Suyooo, as stated in the blogs description [thumbs up]

so first off is siffrin! i picked Iria from tales of innocence mostly because i liked the post, it felt very reminiscent of siffrin's menu art, plus i could easily edit the hand into a scissors sign. also i just liked how petite iria is lmao

mirabelle!! and meredy!! i didn't have to search for a potential base for mira for very long, i just kinda immediately went 'oh yeah meredy is perfect for her. round eyes, same demeanor, perfect.' i liked this meredy in particular because she could be making a paper hand sign and i could adjust the fist to hold her rapier! in hindsight, i shoulda made her rapier longer but eh. i'll live with it :)

next is isabeau! as stahn! ...to be perfectly honest, isabeau gave me the most trouble! again! history repeats itself from the color hc set i did!! i had a tough time finding a good base for isabeau given that he has a very square head but Big Oval eyes but hes also buff!! and i refused to trim him down!! i considered eizen and just photoshopping someone elses head on, but my friend howl dropped this stahn and it was too perfect to pass up. i tried to square-ify stahns head and round his eyes some, i also made the arms a little more buff too eheh.

in the end, my efforts to make him Wide were for naught. those darn sleeves covered him up... ah well......

Odile!!! as jade. this isn't surprising to anyone whos played abyss and isat. same character. heaven smiles upon odile for her good deeds (thats cant possibly be true). i don't have anything else to say, it was just too good to pass up and works scarily well.

last but not least, bonnie and genis. [scratches head] i did bonnie last and realized i didn't actually use any symphonia characters despite the ties between the two games. friend howl linked this genis and it was a perfect fit. just reposition the arms a bit, slap seles' hat down, draw over it, and there we go!

i think bonnie might just be my favorite of the set- they fit into the tales style SO well.

and before anyone asks "wheres loop" "wheres the king" "wheres euphrasie" i forgot about them. i probably wont get to them either. sorry :P

they mourned Gray together (even though neither could fully accept he was most likely dead), spoke about their guilt (Ultear told Lyon about what she did on Tenrou, and her involvement in Galuna) and got to know one another

When Lyon found out Fairy Tail was back he dropped everything and booked the next train to magnolia

He tried to get in contact with her on the way there, but communication was always tricky with her job

After Ultear was like, reinstated (or whatever the word is) she dragged them both to a bunch random events and restaurants and just a lot of places

Gray pulls the ‘poor sweet little brother’ and ‘and here I thought you were a good older [brother/sister]’ card on them at every denial they give him

it works every time

Gray lets Ultear, Jellal, and Meredy crash/hide at his place if they want, it allowed him to get to know them, and for them to have a safe haven

Gray told Erza after a couple months of this going on and she started suspiciously visiting Grays house more often

We involved all the SE characters, so I sketched the ones that appeared in the story(it's a roleplay). Tegan got the hardest role in the story, so he's a little unhappy xd and thieves uniforms for the girls lol

I really like Tadashi with grey hair, although appearance of it was due to immense stress in the roleplay. Suffering for beauty oops……

Anna-Maria and Meridie are not blood sisters, but they are sisters in spirit and designation and all that. Meredi's father died and Anna-Maria's father took her in, and they're thieves together, they do things together so <3

And just Axl's letter that we designed for ‘authenticity.’ My friend is a great writer, so her Axel is amazing. It's all headcanons and stuff, so don't take anything for granted.

Chapter five | Caramade Franks

Despite the slight rough start at her new job, Juvia's first week went rather well. Together with Cana and Meredy, their team decided not to plan any special activities for the first four weeks, as both the children and staff had just returned from their summer vacation. They would prioritise everyone to settle down and get to know each other. Juvia had to learn names, which wasn't her strongest suit, but to her surprise, she managed to learn all sixteen children's names. She felt pretty proud of herself.

There was one thing she definitely wasn't proud of. A certain somebody had been running through her mind like an adrenaline filled hamster on a wheel.

Juvia had seen Gray every day that week–in the morning at drop off or in the afternoon for pick up. Though the way he was acting was strange. The last time they spoke was on Tuesday, when he thanked her for helping Aster with his nightmare. The only words exchanged between the two were 'Good morning' or 'Bye'. Juvia felt like he was avoiding her and she didn't like that one bit. She wondered if she had said or done something to make him distance himself from her?

Haven't you done enough?

She visibly shook her head to bury the bad thought. Though it was the truth, and she was more than aware of it, that was the last thing she wanted to think about right now.

Juvia found herself standing in line, about to order something she had longed for–Caramade Franks.

She and her roommate had thought of what to eat for dinner. With neither of them having the energy to cook on a Friday evening, they decided take out was the answer. For him it didn't matter what it was, he ate basically everything anyway so Juvia got to decide for them and well, there she was.

"Four Caramade Franks, please." She said to the cashier when it was her turn to order.

"Since when did you eat that many?" A man asked her, or rather commented. It caught Juvia by surprise because she knew exactly who it was.

"Hello to you too, Gray." She turned to look at the raven-haired man, raising her eyebrows. To be honest, she was nervous to see him, but she had to conceal it. "Oh, hi Aster." She greeted the little boy with a smile when she noticed him slightly hiding behind his dad.

"H-hi." Aster stuttered. He was shy and most likely confused seeing her at another place than at daycare.

''I see you kept our tradition.'' Gray said, he seemed happy.

No. No she had not.

Six years. That's how long her favourite food was non-existent, but that was not because she didn't want to have it. The more she went without Caramade Franks, the more she craved it. She had to refrain herself from doing so every time, even if it was extremely difficult. She was determined to move on from him, so she tried every imaginable way to avoid thinking about him and all their shared memories.

The good memories.

''Actually, it's been a while.'' Juvia admitted, her eyes shifting anywhere except into his eyes. She hated the fact that it was true. She felt guilty. That tradition–their tradition, had meant a lot to both of them, and although Gray didn't mention it, Juvia knew he was disappointed with her answer. ''I see that you did, though.''

''Yeah, we eat Caramade Franks every Friday,'' He answered before looking happily down to Aster. "Ain't that right buddy?"

''Yeah! I love it so much, and daddy does too!" Aster exclaimed, his face litting up at the thought of the delight. It seemed his shyness had disappeared into nothing. ''Juvia too?"

"I do. It's my favourite." She couldn't help but smile at him.

After receiving her order, the three walked towards the exit. Juvia stopped in her tracks once she saw the current weather conditions. The once vivid blue painted sky accompanied with the sun beaming had now shifted to an overcast grey and the clouds had began to weep.

''Damn it." Juvia cursed under her breath. She had initially thought to take an umbrella with her, but chose not to because of the warm weather that existed just mere seconds ago. Not to mention she wasn't dressed appropriately for the weather, wearing only a t-shirt, jean shorts and sneakers. Luckily, she lived somewhat close, so she would simply have to make a run for it and hope her dinner remained edible.

''What are you doing?'' Gray asked in confusion. He carried Aster in his arms.

''Trying to protect my food.'' She replied, as she tried different ways to achieve her goal.

"Juvia it's pouring, I'll drive you home.''

"It's fine, I live close by."

''It wasn't a question.''

Before Juvia could voice another protest, Gray grasped her free hand and led her towards his car.

Maybe the rain wasn't such a bad thing since he didn't notice the sudden crimson red displaying across her cheeks.

Juvia was lucky the drive to her apartment was only a few minutes long. The car was filled with silence apart from Aster incoherently mumbling the lyrics to In Summer while playing with his Olaf plushie.

''Aster, I'm going to follow Juvia to the front door and then I'll be back, okay?'' Gray informed his toddler after parking the car outside Juvia's apartment building.

''Okay daddy!''

Juvia was going to protest again, that she was more than capable of walking ten metres, but she knew he couldn't care less. When he says something, he is going to do it. Still stubborn as she remembered him to be.

''Bye Juvia!"

''Bye Aster, try not to tease daddy too much over the weekend." Aster let out an adorable giggle while Gray rolled his eyes, the corners of his mouth slightly tugging upwards in a soft smile.

Gray and Juvia ran to the front door, the canopy protecting them from getting soaked.

''Thanks for the ride."

''Of course, there was no way I would have let you walk home in this weather. The Caramade Franks would have been all cold and soggy."

''Aw, and here I thought you were thinking of me, aren't you sweet?'' With a playful remark, they both burst into laughter. How could it still feel so natural to be around him, even after what felt like an eternity?

''Wait, before you go, I've been meaning to ask you,'' He briefly paused before resuming, ''Can I have your phone number?''

Wait what?

"Of course." She answered, fishing her phone out of her back pocket and handing it to him.

Juvia hesitated at first, thinking about the reason why she even had a different phone number to begin with. Then again, maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't be a bad idea. Unsure if it was appropriate, given she was Aster's teacher, but to be fair, she knew Gray before Aster was even born.

"So… that doesn't happen to be the reason you've been avoiding me, does it?" She blurted out, her fingers rapidly typing his phone digits.

"W-what! N-No!" He stuttered and diverted his eyes from hers. Gray had never been a good liar. "I'm asking because I tried contacting you, but couldn't reach you. I thought maybe you had changed to a new number. Besides, I remember you've never been fond of social media."

"Oh yeah… my old phone broke so I had to get both a new phone and a new number."

Lies.

Juvia despised lying, especially to Gray, but she wasn't ready to tell him the truth. She knew she had to tell him everything at some point, he deserved to know, but now was definitely not the time.

"There." Juvia handed Gray his phone back.

"Thanks. Now, you're not actually going to eat all that by yourself, right?''

"Oh no, I'm splitting it with my friend, Gajeel. We're roommates.''

''Oh…I see." He murmured, a lingering hint of disappointment in his voice, leaving Juvia with the feeling that he wasn't pleased with her answer.

"Well, I should get back to the car, can't keep the little man starving or the socials will come for my ass. Take care, Juvia."

''Will you let me know when you two arrive home?"

He nodded, then hurried back to his car and drove off.

Juvia had only made it outside of her apartment door when she heard her phone go off.

Oh, that was fast.

Good, I'm glad you both made it home safe! - Juvia 18:09

Texting Gray reminded Juvia of a certain someone.

"Gajeel, I got Caramade Franks!" She called out the moment she entered their shared apartment and went to put the bags of food on the kitchen counter.

''Who the hell was that?'' Her roommate emerged from the balcony with his arms crossed.

Some people, well, most people, would be very intimidated by Gajeel, just based on his appearance. He was tall, muscular, with long black hair, and covered with tattoos and piercings. Juvia tells herself to never judge a book by its cover. She knew the real Gajeel; tough as metal on the outside and soft like a teddy bear on the inside. However, that didn't mean he wouldn't beat the shit out of people. That was only if they said or did something to piss him off; then it was game over for them.

When she moved to Oak town, Juvia found herself without anyone until she met Gajeel. He became her first and only friend there and despite not being blood-related at all, he was like a brother to her. He was the person she could confide in about anything and everything. It didn't matter how trivial, humorous or serious the matter was – he always listened and supported her, unwaveringly. Wherever it was a silly joke or a heartfelt concern, Gajeel was there for her, ready to stand by her side no matter the circumstance.

''Huh?''

''The guy you were talking with at the front door just now."

Shit.

''It's him, isn't it? Gray.''

Gray was not exactly an unfamiliar name for Gajeel. He was familiar with who Juvia's old friend was and her history with him. She never intended to bring him up, but it just happened. Juvia and Gajeel lived together in Oak time during university, and one night she had woken up from a nightmare, in panic, with tears streaming down her face. Gajeel was woken up by her cries and hurried to her room to comfort her. That dream had been about Gray, and from that night on Gajeel knew every detail about Gray and his life. He knew his hobbies, his likes and dislikes and even about his stripping habit which he thought was ludicrous.

To say Gajeel didn't like Gray would be an understatement. He harboured a strong dislike for him, despite never having met him. However, based on what he had heard from Juvia, his dislike for Gray was firmly rooted.

Also, this meant Gajeel knew the truth.

Juvia stopped bringing his name up after a while and for Gajeel, the reason was obvious but nonetheless he didn't question her but he never forgot.

"I'll kill him."

"Gajeel!"

Not only was Gajeel super protective over his sister but he was also a stubborn bastard so calming him down to prevent him from hunting down Gray and murder him was challenging, but eventually Juvia managed to soothe him. During dinner she told him the events of the week; Meeting Gray, discovering he has now a father and avoiding him would not only be unprofessional but impossible, given that his child was in the same daycare group where she worked. Moreover, she didn't want to be mean and hurt his feelings as they rekindled their friendship – or so she really hoped.

Now all Juvia wanted to do was crawl into bed and sleep. It had been a long week, leaving her thoroughly drained.

As Juvia prepared for bed, she knew there was one thing she needed to do first and that was to send someone special a message. She reached for her phone, tapping out a brief but heartfelt message in hopes of reuniting with that person very soon.

Due to the late hour, Juvia didn't expect a reply until the following morning but she was surprised when her phone buzzed after only a few seconds. Checking her screen, she realised it wasn't the expected response.

Gray: Goodnight Juvia. See you on monday 23:15

You're not. *cracks knuckles* I absolutely LOATHE Juvia with a immense passion, she isn't even a character to hate. Just a cheap tired old replica of "Obsessive annoying ass female character with zero depth is attracted to handsome male character for reasons? Unknown". She's not funny, she's not entertaining, she's not plot relevant and really was my biggest issue with Fairy Tail outside the obvious annoying fake out deaths and plot armor deus ex machina moments. I can give those a pace for the tone Fairy Tail has set but Juvia? Oh boy is she an obnoxious painful "character" to suffer. She's the equlevant of what Spongebob is to Squidward for Gray. Endless Torture Porn that waste the audience time. The only reason JuviUGH is popular is because she's hot. That's it. If you hold someone at gunpoint and ask them to name more reasons WHY they like Juvia or make a logical explanation for why Gruvia is a healthy non-codependent relationship. Their taking the bullet to the head. Lord knows I will.

Juvia stans only defense for Juvia's stalker ass tendencies is "It's just a gag" similar to Sakura's stans justification why her abusing Naruto or simping for Sasuke "is a muh gag". I missed the part where that was okay or funny. Idgaf if it's a gag, I hate it. I hate Juvia's entire existence. She's a random character they cherry picked from a evil guild who had "lust at first sight" for Gray. She had no legitimate reason outside his looks to love him, that isn't okay or healthy. This character made my blood boil and heart seethe in pain every time I saw her pop up because you know what you were getting. Another annoying fucking painful moment of her reminding us she loves Gray like we got the first 150 times in 4 episodes. Did we need anymore? Ofc not! She never has a character arc, she has no relationships with other characters, they never properly flesh out any potential dynamics like the one with Meredy & Lucy & Gajeel because they are all flushed down the drown the moment they press the hard reset the moment Juvai shows an ounce of growth.

They can't help themselves hitting that "character reset" to boomerang any progress of her character regressing and demoting it back to "Generic Gray love interest with no other characteristics or depth of quality" sounds familar? She's just a more violatile Karin with extra screentime. These characters do nothing but be cheap fanservice for fangirls with low self-esteem and personal insecurities that have insane infatuations with men that could not give one single fuck. Juvia honestly should have died at the final series(honestly someone fucking should have-cough Makarov). That would have at least made it worth it and validated her "love" for Gray. She's willing to die for him to set him free of her cahins that hold him back. PERFECT Metaphor, it was right there yet the writer just could not find any pair of balls to kill any characters attached to these overrated ships. The main popular ships are all terrible even Gajevy but Gruvia will forever go down as the most appalling mainstream fictional ship in the anime world OAT! Hands down because of how long you have to be exposed to it, how much it just suffocates you and you drown in it's mediocrity. I can't stand it because it gaslights me, it gaslights the audience and eventually Gray into thinking it's a relationship that should go somewhere.

I would love to do a disection on Gray but I don't wanna trouble you with another paragraph and taking any more of your time away. To keep it short,sweet and simple: JU-GRUVIA absolutely ruined Gray's character beyond repair. Gray's agency, his existence, his screentime, story and depth are all sacrificed in favor of Juvia's pointless romance that never actually goes somewhere because the writers of these eh shounen anime never consider tapping into any possible romance until the tail end of the series(which I always thought was fucking stupid). I seriously fucking hate Juvia for ruining my goat, my boi, my normal icy glorious king and stripping away what could've been the greatest character in Fairy Tail for me(that title went to his dad and Zancrow🤷🏻‍♂️). If you take Juvia away from the story, it feels 50 times better and most of the problems go away along with her. The best question any Fairy Tail can ask themselves is did we need shipping to carry the show? No we didn't. We didn't need pointless romances in a comedy shounen that is too damn safe,predictable and comfortable. The better ships aren't even popular or mentioned often because of toxic ship stans that gaslighted closeted rarepair stans into the shadow realm. IFYKYK. Gray is my biggest what if. What if he was treated by a writer that actually gaf about him in the middle and later part of the story. Gray OWNED early Fairy Tail. Pre-Juvia!Gray is the best character in all of Fairy Tail and I'll die on that hill.

lol so i just made a post (wrote in the reblogs of the post) that if they're of age and biologically unrelated, it's shippable BUT i still have preferred family-coded relationships so let's get into it (under the cut cuz it got longer than I thought it would)

Natsu Gray and Erza are to me kinda a gray zone (haha no pun intended). They can be THE siblings ever, but also I kinda like gratsu as a ship. Erza has always felt like a big sister to them both, so I personally don't get the appeal of shipping her with either of them, but those who do - good for you! they got to know each other late enough in their lives for it to not feel so incesty. Erza being an older sister is just how i interpret her affection to them.

Agreed on Laxus being Natsu's and Erza's big brother. In general I feel like Laxus took on the big brother role very early, being basically the only one with biological family in the guild in his age - I think he was the type of kid who wanted to protect those who had been through bad things. So even when Erza grew strong and distant and when Natsu started looking at him as a rival, he carried on with his big brother affection. I could make an entire post about this, but just gonna add that his emo phase was SO on brand for the big bro image.

HEAVY on Wendy and the dragon slayers. It just totally goes without saying. And I think that since Wendy's younger than most of the people in the guild, apart from Asuka and Romeo, it makes sense for them to go found family on her and just treat her like a sister. It simplifies the age gap in their friendship - i'm saying this from experience btw, it really is easier to have a strong friendly bond with a younger person if you see them as your sibling, bc it makes it easier to understand why they might not understand the depth of things. Like, with friends around your age you kinda value their maturnity and can use them as intellegent ballplanks - they challenge you. A younger person won't have as much experience or knowledge on most things, so when you're friends with a kid (or preteen) you take on the role of teaching them things. And the way a sibling teaches things is just so different than how a parent would, because there's still a sense of equality in it. "I'm older and wiser but I don't have complete authority over you." (i'm a younger sister with a neighbour who sees me as her bigger sister, so i've thought a lot about this lol)

Gray and Lyon - brothers. Ultear however? She's kinda like an estranged step sister at best. There is a special bond between her and the two, but considering that they got to know each other at a grown age, it makes their relationship a novelty of sorts, especially considering how much all of them idolise Ur.

Ultear is ABSOLUTELY Meredy's mom. step mom or the mom who stepped up!!!

And yeah oracion seis AND crime sorcerie are extreme cases of family. (jellal is a random uncle but he's family alright!)

Him and Erza have a very certain degree of connection where they often communicate with each other without even speaking, and when it comes to his feelings he's more likely to talk to Erza about it than anyone else. While on missions together the two have had casual flings.

He's largely unable to grow body or facial hair, he's kind of mad about it.

Sex isn't something that's really... Big to him? It's something largely casual for him. Romance on the other hand is something he struggles with and is a big deal.

He and Loke have been fucking for years but swearing it's no homo as a bit and no one's really sure if they're actually kidding or not anymore. When Juvia found out she was so utterly confused and distraught she had to sit down. Erza explained the situation to her and she calmed down.

i think meredy was the most sane. getting timed out over asking a question, presumably in a non-combative way, is crazy. (but chale nuked the msgs, so we’ll never know ig.) the domi thing is weird. sofia’s crash out was nutty, but i can appreciate that it was (initially) kept to a ticket. not communicating with staff as the owner is crazy (ignoring dms, punishment w/o consultation, pulling a fast one on rules). i think everyone needs to learn that no one should have to permanently baby-proof their language just so you don’t feel attacked (chaotic…). it’s Normal to not always be like “^_^ haiii best friend!!!<3you’re doing great sweetie!” kage seems like a doodoobug. i love how meaningless this all is

“Yeah,” Natsu breathed beside her. When he turned his head to look at her, Lucy found herself leaning in, ready to hang on whatever undeniably sweet thing he was going to say. 

His smile was charming and his voice meant no harm, “which helps a lot! Especially when you got friends like Gildarts or Meredy who always come when you need them most. Even that Brandish girl! I don’t know what Granny was gettin so worked up about, over my magic building up or whatever, but having people like her around is always good!” 

And…that was that.

Natsu Harem: Fairy GET! 11/14

Now we're getting to the oneechan's. (人◕ω◕) I saved these for last because they should be obvious.... But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We'll deal with them one at at time, like all the rest~

The first spotlight goes to Ultear Milkovich~ \(人◕ω◕)/

When did they meet?

Officially, Natsu met Ultear on that S-Class Quest to dispel the curse of Galuna Island. (人◕ω◕) At the time, Natsu didn't know it was her. She pulled off her disguise so well that for the longest time, the Dragon Slayer actually believed she was an old man named Zalty~.... Isn't that just cute? (人◕ω◕)

After battling Natsu for a bit, toying around with him.... Ultear wound up with a little trophy with the swelled cheek there, as can be seen. (人◕ω◕) It was delayed, and Ultear-chan was rather miffed about it... But the Dragon Slayer apparently got one good hit in. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)

Ultear would go on to watch Natsu's progress in the Tower of Heaven incident, as well as report about Oracion Seis making their move to Hades.

Natsu and Ultear would more formally meet on Tenrou Island. ... Where Natsu would assume she was a guy crossdressing as a girl. And get her name mixed up with "Ultimate Milk Sandwich." (人◕ω◕) Now why would he ever think that~...?

Their more proper meeting goes about as well as the first. Natsu tries engaging her in battle, but Ultear is more focused on tracking down and capturing Zeref for Grimoire Heart's goal of the Grand Magic World. ... Or, well. more specifically her desire to go back to a time when she didn't hate her mother. To save her mother from death. (人◕ω◕)

It's honestly very interesting that Ultear and Natsu's fates are intertwined so inextricably. While she did get handed to the Dark Guilds on a silver platter at a young age, her mom would go on to seal away and eventually kill one of Zeref's demons. And Ultear wanted Zeref for her goals. Zeref, who is in fact Zeref Dragneel. It doesn't go as planned, of course. Zeref becomes cross at Grimoire Heart summoning Acnologia to the island; and he'd go on to kill Hades with the Curse of Ankhseram. Moreover, Gray helped Ultear get her head on straight... Although frankly, most of the "work" was done when they ended up in the ocean, where Ultear heard stray memories of her mother; and she rightfully deduced it was the remnants of her mother that melted and became one with the sea.

Regardless, Ultear came to see the error of her ways. She would go on to help restore the Tenrou Tree to help give Fairy Tail back their magic, and then she'd slip away with Meredy... who found out the truth about her childhood home's destruction. Ultear tries taking responsibility for that by killing herself... But Meredy forgives her, wanting Ultear to live.

Ultear and Meredy wouldn't get to see Fairy Tail again until seven years later...

When did they get closer?

As mentioned in the Meredy post... Crime Sorciere approaches the Fairy Tail mages preparing for the Grand Magic Games, hoping to get their help in tracking down a presence similar to Zeref to deal with it. Ultear juices them up with Second Origin... And, well... (人◕ω◕);;;

... Natsu still thinks she's Zalty crossdressing. (人◕ω◕);;; A pity this gag fades away after... But I suppose we can take that to mean Ultear proves to Natsu, leaving no room for doubt, that she is a bonafide woman... (人◕ω◕);;;;;;; What? Don't you remember the hot, raunchy episode where they screwed like monkeys? No...? Aw, well. (人◕ω◕)

Jokes aside... Ultear is more aware of Natsu's true feelings towards Jellal. Especially with how Erza suffers, clinging to the past like she does. Natsu's frustrated, but keeps quiet to keep Erza... "happy". Ultear nudges Meredy into noticing Natsu's depression, figuring Ultear's Maguilty Sense is the best tool for anyone empathizing with Natsu. Ultear herself keeps a polite distance, prioritizing her sister's happiness over her own; Meredy needs friends, considering she's forced into travelling around with Crime Sorciere as a "criminal" since they busted Jellal out of jail so they can all atone.

... It's really too bad for the Time Witch that Natsu never got the memo to leave things be. (人◕ω◕) He picks up on the fact that Meredy was "directed" to him, and more or less deduces Ultear was responsible. They have a private conversation while Meredy plays around with Juvia for a bit - a talk that ends up with Ultear confiding in Natsu that she feels guilty about possessing Jellal as children, and causing so much pain and hardship for all the slaves... Erza included in that.

Natsu doesn't let Ultear drown in her guilt. Jellal was never just a puppet with no free will... He doesn't get a free pass for everything he did, constructing that Tower on the backs of all his "friends" and fellow slaves. Even Natsu could see that Jellal was in control of himself. The most that Ultear's spell did was nudge him into his darker emotions... Which were there already. Jellal was a child, and he was a slave like all of them. A harsh environment like that can stir some very dark, vengeful emotions. All her spell did was "add more fuel to the fire". Jellal was a lost soul trapped in his own darkness, and Natsu tried getting the guy to wake up during the Tower of Heaven conflict... But seeing him now, Jellal's so down on himself. He's not making a real effort to atone like Ultear and Meredy; he's going though the motions, and they're dragging him around just because they need the extra firepower.

Ultear doesn't dispute Natsu's observations. Crime Sorciere always felt like her brainchild, not Jellal's. She tried making him the leader to let him feel like he was making progress in his atonement... And to deal with her own lingering sense of guilt that she didn't "deserve" to lead the group after all she did... But honestly, it's like Natsu said. This isn't helping Jellal. Getting defeated and freed from Ultear's spell just... shut him down. Ultear doesn't know how to get through to him, and Natsu says there's nothing wrong with that. The fact they tried, gave Jellal these opportunities, Ultear and Meredy aren't obligated to do all the work in "bringing him back". Jellal has to make the effort himself and seize onto this second chance at life with both hands, and until he does Natsu won't get over his resentment toward the man. He won't pity Jellal like Erza does; Gajeel and Laxus made harsh mistakes too, and they've been atoning all this time. Jellal has to accept responsibility for his actions, and just move forward on his own two feet. No one should have to push him along.

After Natsu unloads all of his pent-up frustrations on her, Ultear can appreciate his position. He is being tough on Jellal... But it's what they deserve, after falling so low. Natsu's kinder to her and Meredy because he can see they're truly contrite and making an effort. Jellal's just... given up. This gives Ultear plenty to think about, how to proceed with Jellal from now on. She accepts that she should take on the mantle of Crime Sorciere's leader, and be a little tougher on Jellal, herself. if she doesn't... they probably won't go much of anywhere. And Ultear would rather not drown in guilt again... That's no way to live.

This talk gives her much more insightfulness into Natsu. He's not a complete fight-happy idiot. There's stuff Natsu takes very seriously, and his friends are at the top of that list. He spares Erza's feelings out of compassion... But he privately feels very strongly about the person hurting Erza by keeping her rooted in the past. Natsu's very fascinating to Ultear, and like Meredy she'll keep an eye on him from here on out~...

As the Grand Magic Games go on, Ultear lightens up somewhat. Messing with Jellal while he's on Fairy Tail Team B, on the verge of exposing himself all because he wants to impress Erza. (人◕ω◕) Ultear will have none of that.

While we're talking about differences from the canon, though... (人◕ω◕) Leading up to the Games, Warrod negotiated with the King, the Council, and Makarov to give his "little sprouts" a second chance, now that he's had seven years to reform Oracion Seis, Rusty Rose, and Azuma. (人◕ω◕) It doesn't go quite as planned... The King's initially against letting criminals participate in the Games. But when Raven Tail breaks the rules, well... It opens up an opportunity for Warrod to give his proposal a shot. If his "guild" of Hydra Roots manages to make a comeback and win the games, they can be pardoned and allowed to go free. ... If they lose - more specifically, if Fairy Tail performs better than them... Then they will join Fairy Tail. ... And still be pardoned. (人◕ω◕) The Council isn't exactly happy about Warrod's shenanigans... But if they doubt one of the Four Gods of Ishgar, that would reflect bad on them in the eyes of the public. ... So they grudgingly allow it.

I bring this up because Fairy Tail still wins the games. Obviously. (人◕ω◕) And Warrod being the playful guy he is... He ropes Crime Sorciere into his "guild". Both during the games and the dragon invasion. Lahar is against this, since Crime Sorciere has been running loose all this time... But Mest grudgingly helps Warrod "convince" Lahar to allow it. Wiping his memories a bit. The memories pertaining to Crime Sorciere. (人◕ω◕);;; ... Just a bit.

I was debating to go this route for a while. So prior posts might not exactly reflect this change in canon... Not precisely. However, I don't see the need to save Crime Sorciere's pardoning until the end of the series. It's mere circumstance that they're left as "criminals" on the run, and there's just no point to keeping up the charade. If Fairy Tail and their allies work together frequently with Crime Sorciere without complaint, the powers-that-be can just deal. (人◕ω◕)

Ultear and Natsu have that talk during the dragon invasion, keeping Ultear from casting Last Ages. I won't expand on this point too much since I already talked about it in Meredy's post, but Natsu's pretty much nipped all of Ultear's "problems" in the bud. Simon's alive, Natsu's convinced her that Jellal's actions are his own, and now he's given her the strength to carry on during a dangerous event of fighting dragons~... It shouldn't come as a surprise when it's all over, and the King pardons the members of Hydra Roots and they go on to join Fairy Tail... Well. Ultear is more than happy to grow closer to Natsu. (人◕ω◕) There's nothing holding her back anymore.

... And really, since I already had Meredy making frequent trips to Magnolia over the next few years anyway, might as well go all the way. Oracion Seis (minus Brain), Rusty Rose, Azuma, Ultear, and Meredy all join Fairy Tail. I should have specified in Tenrou arc, but Azuma survived. I have this habit of keeping awesome characters alive for atonement. (人◕ω◕) Nooo regrets~....

When did friendship turn to something more?

I'll skim over Tartaros and Alvarez arcs. It should be pretty obvious Ultear and the other former Balam Alliance members helped bring down Tartaros... and the survivors of Tartaros went on to fight Zeref's armies in Alvarez, independently. Gotta love these buildups over time with reformed villains coming together to fight against stronger foes. (人◕ω◕) ... Or maybe that's just me.

Ultear and Meredy joining Fairy Tail... Gravitating to Natsu... Of course there's opposition to these endeavors. (人◕ω◕);;; Ultear's such a troublemaker. All these... "games", flirting with Natsu and "leading him along". ... Certain parties feel like she is, anyway. It's all but impossible to hate Meredy because of how bubbly and cheerful she is. ... But Ultear. Ooh, boy, Ultear. Cana, Kagura, even Juvia is a bit... territorial around the Time Witch. And Sayla butts heads with her, when she comes around... And bossy Brandish... (人◕ω◕);;; Ultear has a fair amount of competition.

Yet Ultear is... grateful to Natsu. She really is. (人◕ω◕) It's no surprise that she and Meredy join Team Natsu on jobs... The team is rather large by now. Natsu, Erza, Gray, Lucy, Simon, Wendy, Juvia, Kagura, and now these two. (人◕ω◕) Jellal turns down the opportunity, and really it's for the best. There's already enough... tension. All orbiting around Natsu for some bizarre reason. (人◕ω◕) Doesn't help the Strauss Siblings struck during the guild's disbandment and were with him for a year. (人◕ω◕);;;

But Ultear delights in Natsu's pranking nature, as much as his serious side. (人◕ω◕) They're just playing around with friends, like Gray and Lucy. ... And Erza. What's wrong with that? (人◕ω◕);;;;;;; I confess, however, that Ultear gravitating to Natsu is what snapped Erza out of her funk, regarding Dingleberry. Erza realizes that somewhere along the way... Natsu became very popular. And seeing the woman that sprang Jellal from prison, seeing Natsu get along with that woman so well.... It makes Erza very jealous. She was one of the first to eye Natsu, and it hurts to see she's wasted all this time, and now she can't have the Dragon Slayer to herself. (人◕ω◕);;; Erza and Ultear get along about as well as cats and dogs. ... Please don't throw Mira into that mix. (人◕ω◕);;;;;;;;

I suppose to get back to the question: Natsu and Ultear become an item shortly after Alvarez arc. That's when most of the relationships become established anyway... But Natsu and Ultear...? Hmm. They both have serious sides to them. Both have goofy sides. And it just felt nice to resonate with one another. In part, Ultear wanted to see the look on Gray's face when she got together with Natsu.... But the Dragon Slayer wasn't a means to an end. She cares deeply for him, and it's very much reciprocated. (人◕ω◕)

6 and 26 have already been answered here and here, but I also can answer them with another fandom, as I mostly talked about Black Clover.

6 - Has a fandom made me ship a couple I previously hated? For Black Clover, it was mostly Asta x Mimosa for very specific reasons, but I can't really tell for another fandom. Maybe Rogue x Minerva from Fairy Tail. I didn't liked this at first (also because I shipped Rogue more with Yukino and Minerva more with Sting blame some French fanfics for that one), but now I kinda like it? Still not my favorite ship for both Rogue and Minerva, but I really don't mind it. Same could be said for Lyon x Meredy. Again this ship is not my favorite one for the two of them, but I don't mind it at all and to be fair, they do look good together. And since Nozel x Vanessa, I like the silver haired and pink haired dynamic^^'

18 - Does not shipping something 'popular' mean that you're in denial and/or biased? No, not at all! Shipping is for fun, not for liking the most canon or most popular couples in a series. Those who pretend that you can only ship canon ships and popular ships always gave the impression of being close minded. There is nothing wrong with shipping canon and popular couples, just as there is nothing wrong by shipping rare pairings and crack ships. In fact, it can coexist easily. The problem is not that you don't like a popular or canon ship. The problem is always if you're saying to others that they're wrong to love ship XY or ship HZ just because it's not popular or canon, if you're insulting others about ships (a lot of us met a certain someone like that -_-), to sum up, if you're toxic about ships towards other people. That is the problem, not not shipping something 'popular'.

26 - Most shippable character? If we're staying with Fairy Tail, I'll say it's definitely Lucy. I've seen a lot ships including her (not liking all of them, but respecting all of them). Laxus is also pretty shippable, it seems.

Chapter 544: You're the King

Acnologia's rampage continues even with Fairy Sphere encasing him, leading to Meredy saving the day by linking all of the Mages continent's power to help reinforce the Defense Magic. Natsu, with the combined power of the other six Dragon Slayers, defeats the spiritual form of Acnologia which in turn disintegrates his physical form, leading to Ishgar's victory and their future secured.

As the ravines of time opened, Natsu and the other dragon slayers fell from the sky.

What a comedic way to end.

And Natsu fell toward his family.

Not Erza, Gray, or other FT members but with Lucy and Happy.

He falls in the most fashionable manner. Pinning down or mounting Lucy as he always does.

And says he is home 🩷💛
