En una cita como la que está teniendo lugar estos días en Nueva York no podía faltar una firma de la talla de Mercedes para presentarnos las últimas novedades, centradas esta vez en el segmento de los SUV. Y es que junto al eléctrico de edición limitada, el EQC Edition 1886, se han presentado las versiones más prestacionales del renovado GLC, es decir, aquellas que llevan el sello AMG.

Siguiendo los pasos de las variantes estándar del SUV alemán, los Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 2019 se han mostrado al público por primera vez luciendo una imagen muy agresiva que se adentra en los cambios ya introducidos en la última actualización realizada por la firma de la estrella. De esta forma, estas nuevas versiones de alto rendimiento presentan un kit de carrocería específico, unas llantas de mayor tamaño (de 21 pulgadas opcionales) y las características cuatro salidas de escape trapezoidales. En el interior ocurre algo similar, con volante y asientos deportivos exclusivos, detalles en aluminio y el sistema de infoentretenimiento MBUX, así como una tapicería actualizada.

Pero lo realmente importante se esconde bajo el capó y es que el corazón que se oculta en el vano motor del SUV alemán es un bloque V8 biturbo de 4.0 litros que produce 476 caballos y un par máximo de 650 Nm. Este propulsor va asociado a una caja de cambios automática de nueve velocidades y un sistema de tracción a las cuatro ruedas AMG Performance 4MATIC +, unos elementos que le permiten acelerar hasta los 100 km/h en 4 segundos y alcanzar una velocidad máxima limitada de 250 km/h.

El Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S es capaz de acelerar de 0 a 100 km/h en 3,8 segundos.

Las emociones fuertes no terminan aquí, pues la marca alemana también ha llevado a Nueva York la variante que va acompañada de la letra ‘S’, lo que supone que el V8 turboalimentado aumente su potencia hasta los 510 caballos y el par máximo a los 700 Nm, ofreciendo unos registros mejorados con respecto a la otra variante AMG. En concreto, el GLC 63 S es capaz de alcanzar los 100 km/h desde parado en apenas 3,8 segundos y su velocidad punta se incrementa hasta los 280 km/h. La transmisión y el sistema de tracción son idénticos a los mencionados en el caso anterior.

Otros detalles a destacar de estas variantes firmadas por AMG son la presencia de un diferencial de bloqueo electrónico, un nuevo modo de conducción “Slippery” y el sistema AMG Dynamics, el cual afecta sobre la distribución del par, la intervención de las ayudas electrónicas y el diferencial, entre otras cosas, con cuatro programas diferentes: Basic, Advanced, Pro y Master (solo en el S). Además, las prestaciones son calcadas tanto en la versión de carrocería estándar como en el coupé.

Updated Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S revealed as fastest SUV to lap the Nurburgring Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its facelifted GLC 63 and GLC 63 Coupé at the 2019 New York motor show and proclaimed the former to be the fastest SUV to have ever lapped the 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordscheife. The performance SUVs have received a series of subtle changes, most of which are focused on the exterior styling and upgrades to its interior. New features include redesigned LED headlights and tail-lights and new trapezoidal twin tailpipes. Customers can now also specify new 21in alloy wheels and Graphite Grey Magno matt paint.   The most significant upgrades are found inside, however. Included is a revised instrument binnacle and Mercedes' new MBUX operating system with touchscreen, touchpad, voice and (optional) gesture control. There’s also a new AMG steering wheel that features touchpads within its horizontal spokes and offers additional upholstery options. Power for the SUVs continues to be provided by AMG’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre petrol V8. Its output remains unchanged, so the standard cars make 469bhp and 442lb ft and the S versions 503bhp and 516lb ft. As standard, drive is channelled through AMG’s nine-speed Speedshift MCT dual-clutch automatic gearbox and fully variable 4Matic+ four-wheel drive system. As an upgrade, all models now come as standard with an additional 'slippery' driving mode for damp or wet conditions as well as an electronically controlled locking differential.
