MerMay 2024 - Day 2: Hula

I know it's the 17th, but I wanted to draw for MerMay so they are not going to be in order and I'll probably only be drawing ones that click with me the most.

Anyhoo, here's day 2!

I based this mermaid of a betta fish. I was looking up what fish create bubbles and found out betta create bubble nests which I thought was adorable.

I drew this as a belated Mother’s Day gift, but it’s also for MerMay month because mermaid.

Here is Atargatis, or at least my depiction of her in a really old story of mine. According to the internet, she is the following:

Atargatis is said to be the mermaid who was the original inspiration for all mermaid stories. She was an Assyrian Goddess. She was said to be the goddess of the moon, fertility and water and was worshipped 3000-4000 years ago in ancient Assyria and later all over the Mediterranean.

I gave her a different body type compared to most characters I’ve designed in the past. Hers is curvier and thicker, which is appropriate to her mother goddess status.

This was finished in two days, starting from 5 PM to 8 AM. I was pretty exhausted by the time I was done. I’m glad I managed to make it in time for MerMay and caught up to Mother’s Day even though it was belated. I had fun designing her tail. Someday I’ll make a full body rendition of her with her tail in complete display.

MERMAY CHALLENGE 2023 IS OVER !

Very happy to have been able to redo this challenge and especially to have done it until the end! Really every day was a progression in my drawing level, well I always want to improve but I'm just very happy with the drawings I produced, although I still can't find my drawing style. Now I can move on to other projects, I can't wait to show you my future creations!

MerMay 2024 - Day 7: Dalí

Day 7!

His mustache looks like a prawn's little do-dads. Tried to make it similar to his photo portrait but in my MerMay style. I thought this was funny ^^

My contribution to MerMay Month. This one’s a really old OC of mine from 2015-2016. His name is Keoki Hoku and he’s the successor of the goddess Atargatis, who faded in time after humans no longer had faith and worshiped her. He lives in Hawaii with his two best friends, Keawe and Anuhea. Both aid him on his quest to retrace the steps of his predecessor and take on her mantle. Or it goes something like that, at least. I’m still figuring out the plot.

His tail shape is a lunate, which is present in fast moving fish IRL, like tuna, marlins, and swordfish. I think it’s a funny coincidence because Atargatis is also a goddess of the moon. Keoki’s tail is crescent-shaped, and his surname means “night of the full moon”. I dropped off moon stuff without realizing it until recently lmao

Drawing him was fun. I might add him to my future “merch” at RedBubble when I completely set up everything.
