What's Here Wednesday: Face Changing Pumpkin
Tumblr media
This expressive pumpkin can seem charming one moment, and then turn fiendishly spooky in the next! You can check it out from the TMC for some fun frights in your classroom, along with a book straight from the TMC Easy's pumpkin patch. 🎃
Sixteen Runaway Pumpkins by Diane Ochiltree
Albert's Halloween by Leslie Tryon
Pumpkins! by Jacqueline Farmer
Pumpkin Town! by Katie McKy

I don't see enough people mourning over the slow death of physical media. And I don't just mean TV shows, video games, or movies--which don't even get me started about how we don't really 'own' anything anymore. It includes notes, journals, and letters to one another...so much of our history is lost when we lose a password, a website goes down, a file/hardware is corrupted, or a platform disappears. History that doesn't seem important until you no longer have access to it. Physical media does a lot for memory recall. How many memories will we lose because we don't have something tangible to tie it back to? Something to hold in our hands and stir up those memories we thought were once lost? Sometimes I wonder what the difference between burning a book and losing access to physical media is when someone can pull the plug and remove your access so easily.

Top Ten(ish) Tuesday: TMC Easy #2
Tumblr media
The #2 most checked out picture book from TMC Easy last year was... We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom! This book has come up on both the lists (for the TMC in general AND TMC Easy), and it's been popular since it arrived... and with good reason! It's definitely worth sharing in the classroom, for its themes, as well as its award-winning illustrations. There are a lot of great ideas out there for lessons you can teach from it.

There are certain songs, and books, and films that are like points of high ground in the memory. Like they are even larger than your own experiences. They never go away.

oh I'd give anything to go back to the time I first read the pjo and hoo books :( the sense of mystery, juvenility and excitement can never be brought back again...
also I want to experience the immediate love I had for jason grace within a few chapters into hoo again, bc that felt like a once in a life time experience, battling with everyone and being quite literally one of the 'loser' people who said 'i love jason grace' lol good times

I never understand why we remember certain moments from our childhood so clearly and specifically, moments that weren't even important to remember. Like why would my brain decide to remember what a class mate said about the sky on a random tuesday, or how my mom's hair looked one morning in 2013????
