It always goes like this
Could have predicted it
I’m so naive to think you loved me for me
It was almost humiliating how many times you’d been in this position. Heels were abandoned at the door, makeup streaked down your face, and your heart felt too heavy to even make it to your own bedroom.
You threw yourself on your couch, dragging a blanket over yourself and taking your phone out apprehensively. Through your tears, you felt the hesitation of dialing that number.
The number you knew through and through.
You knew it by heart.
‘She doesn’t want to hear from you,’ that little devil whispered into your ear. ‘She’s so sick and tired of you and your bullshit.’
A whimper escaped your lips. You wanted to throw your phone and let it shatter on impact. But you never did.
Instead you clutched it tighter and shoved yourself deeper into the cushions of your couch, the memories of that night resurfacing.
Kissed as I ran off stage
Too old to play this game
Guess you’re still growing up at thirty
You met him on a quiet Sunday morning. You were at your favorite cafe and there he was, approaching you. Calling you beautiful, unlike any other girl you’ve met.
But most of all. He didn’t recognize you.
You detested dating fans. You already got your heart broken there before. You swore off of that.
He showered you with so much affection, you completely missed the signs.
Red flags always seemed normal under your rose-tinted view of the world.
Were you surprised by me
When you took me home?
When the glamour wore off
Reduced to skin and bone
You should have known it was all a lie.
You should have known he was just like all the other
You don’t know how long you sat there, wallowing in self-pity, but the sound of your phone ringing took you out of it for just a moment.
You pulled it away from where it was resting under the couch pillow and your eyes widened at the name.
Elle <3
Once again, you hesitated, your thumb hovering over the green button. You finally picked it up on the third ring.
“Ellie, hi!” You cringed at the way your voice nearly immediately cracked as you tried to feign your usual chipper mood.
“Hey lovely.” Her voice sounded so comforting. Even with just two words, you felt a twinge of warmth attempt to spread through your chest. “You okay?”
You cleared your throat. “Yeah, what makes you ask?”
“You sound like you’ve been crying. And it’s nearly midnight in LA, you aren’t usually this chipper this late unless you’re faking it.”
A sigh escaped you. You never could lie to her.
“You’ve always been so observant.” Your voice dropped the octave now that the facade faded.
“I hope so,” she chuckled lightly. “It’s kind of my job. Do you want to talk about it?”
‘She doesn’t mean it. She’s just being nice.’
“I don’t want to bore you with the details.”
She hummed in disapproval. “You know I always want the details from mi estrella.”
A sad smile slid on your face at the nickname given to you in your childhood; coined after you had gotten the solo in the choir concert.
‘Super star by day, best friend by night,’ 10-year-old Elle had quipped.
You huffed out a small laugh before it all fell away as you recounted your date that night.
“You remember Trevor right? Met him at that coffee shop on Melrose Avenue?”
You heard a pause on her end before she spoke again, her voice softer. “I do.”
“Well…I had a date with him tonight. Fourth one.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah. Oh.”
His lips pressed harshly into yours and his hands skimmed over your body as you struggled to keep up.
“I invited him to see me at a concert. My final one on my tour.”
I can’t even tell
Who you want to know
“Trev,” you had tried to laugh. “Slow down.”
Your words fell upon deaf ears as he kissed down to your jaw and began attacking at your neck.
“I um…I thought it was a good idea to invite him backstage when it was over…talk to him for a bit before I had to go out again.”
Elle listened as your tone got darker and darker, reliving your own fresh memories. She heard every bout of emotion in your voice. The pain that shone through from a broken heart.
He began lifting your skirt. You grew dizzy with nausea the more he continued.
‘This isn’t right,’ a tiny voice screamed at you.
“Trev—Trevor, please stop.”
Your hands found his chest, steadying yourself on it before pushing him away. “I said stop!”
“y/n…” Elle’s voice was a whisper now.
“I-I told him I didn’t want that. That I didn’t think we were there yet. He didn’t really like that…”
I’m a goddess on stage
Human when we’re alone
“What do you mean we’re not there yet,” he scoffed. “I’ve been waiting for basically two months for you to be ready.”
He moved in close again, placing a hand on your waist. “I’m so tired of waiting. I’ve listened to your stories, your music. Hell I even talked to that she-devil of a friend of yours, Bella.”
You couldn’t decide whether or not to feel disgusted or betrayed. “It’s Elle…You mean you didn’t want any of that?”
“I wanted you, baby…isn’t that enough.”
You cried freely now into the phone and Elle listened quietly, her own heart breaking for you.
“You’d be proud of me Ellie,” you sniffed. “I stood my ground. Told him no.”
“Yeah?”
You nodded, regardless if she’d see it or not. “Yeah… He didn’t really like it though. I had to call security to escort him out.”
“Did he put his hands on you,” she asked.
You bit your lip, the line going quiet for just a moment before you spoke again. “Do you think I can visit you? Just for a week or so?”
She frowned at the sudden change in topic.
“Of course you can, lovely.”
That next day moved so painstakingly slow for Elle. It was a paperwork day which meant she got to sit around anxiously as she waited for another call from you.
You had already called twice. Once to tell her you were leaving your apartment, twice to tell her your plane was about to depart from LA.
Hours has passed and now she awaited your call telling her you were at the airport waiting.
“Alright,” Derek quipped, rocking back in his chair. “What’s up with you today?”
Elle looked over at the man, lifting an eyebrow at him. “What do you mean?”
“You’ve been staring at your phone all day,” Spencer claimed, not looking up from his paperwork.
Elle’s attention snapped between the two men before finally settling on Morgan. “So?”
Derek grinned. “So…? You hate the phone Elle, now you look like you’re waiting for it to come to life in front of your eyes.”
The girl scoffed out a laugh, shaking her head.
“You know what I think it it,” Derek continued. “I think you’ve got Mr. Mystery you’re waiting on.”
Her smile halted for just a second at his words. She twirling the pen in between her fingers once then twice. “You’re delusional Morgan.”
Almost right on cue, her phone rang and Derek let out a laugh seeing the usually preserved woman scramble for it.
“Agent Greenaway.”
“So professional,” you mused, a sly grin sliding on your lips.
A smile eased onto her expression as she turned away from Morgan’s prying eyes. “Hola amorcito. ¿Cómo estuvo tu vuelo?”
“It was good, I slept the whole way here.”
“Eso es bueno. Lo necesita.”
“Rude,” you fake gasped. “Are you calling me grouchy?”
“Sabes lo que quise decir y/n.”
Morgan and Reid looked at each other as they listened to Elle’s end of the conversation, completely clueless as to what you were saying.
“Estaré allí en veinte. Estar segura. Te amo.”
Reid furrowed his brows curiously. He might not have been a whiz in Spanish, but he definitely caught those last words.
“Alright boys, you better behave.”
Spencer frowned. “Where are you going?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know.”
The two of you had spent the rest of the day together.
You didn’t want to go out, so she took you straight to your apartment and there you had the time of your life. You two binged movies, played board games, and now you were cooking together.
It was pure bliss and you couldn’t as for more.
“I missed this,” Elle mused.
You sat perched on the counter, your head laid comfortably on the cabinet behind you and you passed ingredients to the cooking woman.
“Cooking,” you asked with a giggle.
She looked over at you with a laugh. “Pass me the oregano would you. And no I don’t mean cooking. I mean being with you. Phone calls don’t feel like enough anymore.”
You twisted your body around as you shuffled through her spice cabinet. “Yeah,” you mused. “Hearing your voice is definitely what keeps me sane though.”
Elle’s heart stuttered at those words. The cooking spoon in her hand slowed it stirring and she looked up at you.
“I can’t find the oregano,” you mumbled, your attention now fully on the cabinet.
“…it’s on the second shelf,” she cleared her throat, pointing up to where it should be.
“I’m looking on the second shelf,” you whined playfully.
“Here,” she moved away from the hot stove and in front of you, leaving over your head to reach it. “It was right…there.”
She didn’t even realize what position she had put herself in until it was much too late. Either one of your thighs laid beside her hips. You looked down at her and you could feel her breath on you. You could smell her addicting perfume that you found yourself missing every time you two were apart.
It was like an invisible magnet between you two, beckoning the both of you closer and closer. So close that you felt her lips brush against yours.
It was like an epiphany to you. Everything clicked in your head.
The pauses over the phone.
The nicknames.
Hiding your phone calls from her team.
But just as the fireworks began to rise, they sizzled out before ever going off.
She pulled away, clearing her throat awkwardly.
‘You’re so delusional,’ that ugly voice hissed to you. ‘She’s seen the real you. The ugly you. Why would she want that?’
You swallowed hard and blinked away your tears. “Elle.”
She didn’t look over to you. Just focused on finishing the meal. “Yeah?”
You released a dying sigh. “Do you…do you think I’m unlovable?”
She had never looked up so fast. You would have thought the spoon burned her from how quickly she dropped it.
“What?”
You felt like the question was a plot for attention, but it wasn’t. It was probably one of the most genuine questions you asked in a long time.
“I- never mind. I’m sorry.”
Elle looked at you as if you grew a second head right in front of her. “y/n,” she moved back to that same position she had just run from. Except this time, her hands fell to your cheeks, caressing them oh-so gently. “How could you ask that question?”
You frowned. “How could I not?” It came out as a whisper. A moment of pure vulnerability. The first of its kind since that phone call last night.
“I’m not that impossibly perfect, beautiful super star they all expect me to be. I’m just…me. No one wants that.”
Elle shook her head, eyes scanning all over your face before finally settling on your eyes once more. “I want that.”
She felt you freeze under her grasp, but she continued on. “Every single failed date and false expectation was never your fault. You are…so incredibly talented, beautiful, and utterly amazing. In more ways than people give you credit for. If all these other people can’t love you the way I do, for you, then they don’t deserve you.”
Your breath stopped in your chest. Stuck. Unable to move in or out. “You love me? Or do you love me?”
You put that emphasis on your final words. There was no other way it could have been interpreted other than
“y/n, I am so utterly in love with you. I have been for a long time.”
Your hands found her wrists where you stabled yourself onto her. A smile broke free from your shocked expression. With a broken laugh, you surged forward, pressing your lips onto her’s in a kiss.
“I love you too.”
Translations:
“hi lovely how was your flight.”
“That’s good, you needed it”
“You know what I mean y/n”
“I’ll be there in twenty. Stay safe. I love you.”
@mackannkees
AN: I can’t believe I wrote that all in one night. It’s officially 3am as of posting, I’m not expecting this to get much attention, this was more self-indulgence if anything. I hope u guys like it tho

LEE STARKEY. THE YOUNGEST DAUGHTER OF "BEATLE" RINGO STARR IS TODAY A FASHION DESIGNER AND HAS OPENED A FASHION BOUTIQUE IN HOLLYWOOD
1991, October 17th - ¡Hola! magazine, Spain
The Yesterday and Today of the protagonists of the news
LEE STARKEY. THE YOUNGEST DAUGHTER OF "BEATLE" RINGO STARR IS TODAY A FASHION DESIGNER AND HAS OPENED A FASHION BOUTIQUE IN HOLLYWOOD
The mythical Hollywood of the big stars looks at Lee Starkey, youngest daughter of Ringo Starr, the ex-member of The Beatles. Lee is now twenty-one years old, but she seems younger (“People look at me" –she explains– "and still think that I’m thirteen”) and she has become owner of a “boutique” in the elegant district of Los Angeles, where she sells bright spangles trousers, daring miniskirts and psychedelic fur tunics like if they were hot pastries. The shop is at the heart of the most fashion district of LA, Melrose Avenue, where famous stars like Madonna, Michelle Pfeiffer and Julia Roberts make their purchases.
“Daddy hasn’t helped me with money”, tells Lee, while she shows us her most favourite clothes designed by herself and her thirty-year-old partner Christian Paris. Lee continues explaining that her father gave her moral support and brought lots of friends to the opening of the boutique, which was last month [sic]. “He’s much exited" – she remarks – "that in the end I’ve found something that I love to do”.
Lee Starkey – that’s Ringo’s real surname – was five years old when her mother, Maureen, and her very famous father divorced in 1975. Both of them married again: her mother with Isaac Tigrett, Hard Rock Cafe founder, and Ringo with the actress Barbara Bach. However, when the youngest daughter of the former Beatle opened her “boutique” in Hollywood both parents attended with her brothers Zak, 25, and Jason, 24 [sic], to wish her luck.
“I’m not an expert of The Beatles”, admits Lee with a smile, adding next: “If I want to know something about them I ask to my father. But I’m a drawer and designer of sixties fashion. Is in those years where I find my inspiration. I’ve tried to bring the vibrations, the colours and the freedom of that style to the nineties”.
In what there is not any doubt is that with their store, Planet Alice, Lee is making a good business, showing that her idea was spot on. Lee, before being devoted to this, tried to introduce herself to the acting world, went to a make-up school and even she wanted to play drums. In the end she met her partner, Christian Paris, a well-known clothes designer of whom she says: “We are very affectionate to each other and this is platonic”. Paris was already owner of a Planet Alice shop in London, namely in Portobello. Also he owns one of the most fashionable discotheques in London, Alice in Wonderland. Now attending to Lee’s wishes, he has opened a new “boutique” in Hollywood.
“We opened it a month ago, but I can already say that Lee's idea has been successful. The sales demonstrate it”, says Christian, happy, after they’ve achieved to sell clothes that worth 1000$ to a group of Latin visitors from Miami, that they were dressed with clothes bought in Planet Alice. “Lee has a lot of energy and wonderful ideas" – he continues – "and when she starts to work, like today, the cash begins to sound”.
Ringo Starr and his first wife, Maureen, parents, like we’ve said before, of three children Zak, Jason and Lee, where divorced sixteen years ago, after having lived a great love story since their adolescence. Maureen was eighteen years old when she married Ringo. She worked then in a hairdresser of Liverpool and after marrying she passed of living in a modest neighbourhood with her family to a luxurious and elegant mansion in Tittenhurst Park, without limitation of expenses. However, those happy years would leave to the fret when Ringo, crawled by a vortex of the fame and the popularity, began to stop worrying of her and began to be related with other women. In the divorce demand that finally she had to outline, Maureen mentioned a model, Nancy Andrews, a young and very pretty dark-haired Californian woman, as the cause of the end of her marriage. This romance, however, didn't have a happy ending and time later the famous Beatles' drummer got married with the actress Barbara Bach, who had been married an Italian producer before. "I had never wanted to get divorced" - said Maureen later -."I adored Richie (it is this way she called to Ringo) and I felt a great affection and respect towards him." When her lawyer told her that to obtain the separation she should say to the judge that she didn't stand to live beside his husband, she cried bitterly and time later recognized: "I shouldn’t never have said that, because it was not true."
The three children of the marriage continued living with their mother, giving them Ringo Starr a generous pension. However, with time, Maureen claimed in the tribunals an increase of it sustaining that, used to the deluxe life that her husband had accustomed them, she had requested little money. "The boys continue living with me" - she said - "and for them I take this step." Each one followed their own road later and, in 1985, Ringo and Maureen became grandparents. Their older son, Zak, then aged nineteen years old and being drummer like his father, had a daughter named Tatia Jayne. Ringo Starr was the first member of the Beatles to become a grandfather. In that occasion Ringo Starr himself, his former-wife, Maureen, and with them their other two children Jason and Lee, they went together to the hospital where the little girl was born. Maureen Kox [sic] - this was her maiden name - married time later the millionaire Isaac Bach [sic] and in 1987 they had a daughter.

jon's home away from home, the sequel since setting up camp in the sunshine state to work on seaquest dsv, jon brandis has ventured from his hotel home in search of amusement. here, jon’s mom, mary, tells bop’s cathee what her son does for florida fun:
cathee: last month, you told us jon would rather play pool than swim in a pool. mary: yeah, there is a billiard parlor that is right around the corner [from our hotel]. but it's not walking distance; he has to drive to it.
cathee: is jon still driving the car the seaquest people loaned him?mary: yeah. a gold toyota camry, brand-new. he has been driving around, getting to know the area. he is finding his way around, which is surprising. it was a brand-new area, so we got maps, and he asked me to write out directions on little 3x5 cards to things like malls and the movie theater, to and from the studio and [the video store]. he carries them in his car, but i knew that once he did it a couple times, he wouldn't need them.
cathee: so i take it that jon the movie buff has been seeing some movies? mary: one of the first things that he did when we got here was go and find the nearest video store so he could sign up and start renting movies! and he found a really nice movie theater complex. he has gone to the movies with me, or he goes with his dad [greg, when he's visiting from los angeles]. i don't know if they've gone to the movies together, but jon has been hanging out with ted raimi and marco sanchez from the show. he has gotten a lot closer with the returning cast members, like roy scheider, don franklin, ted and marco. and, of course, darwin!
cathee: has jon made other friends in florida? mary: yeah, he's met some people in production. there are some young people working in the production office, so he'll go get a coffee and just sit there and talk to them.
cathee: are there any cool coffeehouses nearby? mary: that is one of the things that he misses, that they don't have a lot of. that and the vintage shops. jon really misses [coffeehouses] and venice beach and the shops on] melrose avenue.
cathee: so where does he go instead? mary: he's been to disney world and epcot center and the disney studios. jon has gone to disney world three times already. he does the voice [of mozenrath, the evil wizard] on the aladdin cartoon for disney so, well, they take him around to anything he wants to go on, and he loves it. it is nice that he gets that special treatment and all they ask is that he pose for a couple of pictures. oh, he also hangs out at the hard rock cafe. he has been there several times. it is right on the universal lot. there's also a sea world that jon's been to with one of his friends. he's also been to the new planet hollywood restaurant.
cathee: well, it sounds like there's enough to keep jon entertained! thanks again for all the details, mary.

Elegant And Enchanted Evenings With John Lloyd Young At Cafe Carlyle
John Lloyd Young and Cafe Carlyle have a long, magical history together.
He is part of a storied group of artists and performers who have, and continue, to grace the Carlyle stage - a legendary and quintessential part of classic New York.
And this past week, JLY celebrated that history while bringing it into the future...elegant, creative, prolific...and more enchanting than ever.
That future began with his new musical director, Jacquelyn Schreiber, taking her seat at the piano - preparing as JLY was introduced, with him walking from the bar area to the front, and beginning the set with his classic rendition of “My Prayer”, commanding the stage from the first note.
He then moved into some new material for this Carlyle residency, making each song his own with his brilliant interpretations. Roy Orbison’s “Love Hurts” is a perfect fit for him, rich and emotional. And he told some of his wonderful Little Anthony stories as he took us on a journey with “I’m On The Outside Looking In”, which is one of several songs that continue to play in our minds long after the performance.
JLY has mentioned a few times about how much he loves history, so playing the Carlyle and sharing some of its incredible history with the audience is as enjoyable for him as it is for us. He motions around the room to various sections of the incredible murals by Oscar-winning French artist, Marcel Vertès, pointing out certain characteristics and techniques. Then he talks about the the first person to own an apartment/condo at the Carlyle, Richard Rodgers, while musing about the songs that may have been inspired here. It’s the perfect segue into his beautiful, romantic version of “I Have Dreamed” from The King And I.
He blows us away with Stevie Wonder’s “Knocks Me Off My Feet”, then comes around the room to greet and serenade us with “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me”...which is always a thrill. JLY has a special way of connecting with friends and fans, and new audience members, that puts him in a class by himself. And we of course get to hear one of our favorites, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”, stronger than ever, and complete with audience participation.
Next up is Nat King Cole’s “Let There Be Love”, featuring Jacquelyn’s extraordinary jazz piano skills and JLY’s luxurious baritone. They play off each other well, and the future is bright for this creative partnership.
We head back into Jersey Boys territory - but with a definite jazz influence. After some of JLY’s entertaining stories about making the Jersey Boys movie, he performs a breathtaking “Moody’s Mood For Love” - forget Frankie and Bob for a minute...at this moment, the line “I need to write for this voice” pertains to JLY and JLY alone. Creating anything for his wonderful, versatile vocal instrument is something any writer and/or musician would be honored to do. This is followed up by the always beautiful “My Eyes Adored You”, fresh and new with Jacquelyn on harmony.
JLY explained next that sometimes when he and his fellow Broadway castmates were invited to perform for events, they weren’t given permission to sing the songs from the show - so Ron Melrose, the arranger and musical director for Jersey Boys, came up with a workaround...and one of the songs for this was “I Only Have Eyes For You”, which JLY performed to perfection in this set at Cafe Carlyle.
The next two songs were absolute standouts (even though every song in the set remains in my head at various times throughout the day) because of JLY’s ingenious vocals and interpretation of Jacquelyn’s inventive arrangements. She might be new to being the musical director, but she completely owns it, and her creativity knows no bounds. “The Air That I Breathe” is so touchingly beautiful, and JLY’s voice both soothing and emotional - the perfect adult lullaby. And he takes us on a full journey through “Both Sides Now”, giving even more meaning to Joni Mitchell’s lyrics and giving us more food for thought.
On the final evening of JLY’s residency, former Ambassador to Finland, Robert Pence, and his wife Suzy, were there along with their friends. Ambassador Pence had requested a special song for his friends, which JLY learned especially for this evening. “One In A Million You” was outstanding, and I hope that he performs it again in the future.
JLY finished the evening with “Maybe I’m Amazed”, and I still have a hard time listening to Sir Paul McCartney’s original because I prefer JLY’s even more. Then we were all up on our feet for “Sherry”...I would say going out on a high note, but in reality, the entire set was filled with high notes.
John Lloyd Young and Cafe Carlyle go hand in hand...the perfect fit for past, present, and future. With all of the new material and creative influences, I can’t wait to see what’s next. And I am so glad that we are all along on the journey with him!

Any must have rides to do or places to go when at Disney
*cracks knuckles*
Well since you asked....
For rides, at MK I'd definitely recommend Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain (if you like coasters), Thunder Mountain (if you like coasters), jingle cruise, the people mover, and Pooh bear cause its cute af. For food, 10/10 recommend Casey's Corner, I dream of their hot dogs 😂 if yoh want more of a sit down restaurant, skippers canteen is great! But if you have picky eaters, The Plaza and Tony's are also good choices.
Epcot rides: Spaceship earth, the ratatouille ride (if you don't mind 3D), GoTG coasters (if you like coasters), soarin!, and test track! For food, we could be here all day 😂 epcot has the best food, especially with the world showcase but if you're looking for a sit-down restaurant, I recommend La Hacienda, Rose and Crown, and (if you have picky eaters) The Garden Grille.
Hollywood studios rides: Rise of the Resistance (idc if you're a star wars fan or not, it's AMAZING), rocking Rollercoaster (if you like coasters), tower of terror (if you like drop rides), slinky dog coaster (very mild), and star tours. Bonus! Not TECHNICALLY a ride but the Muppet 3d show is one of my favorite shows so def recommend checking it out. For food, Woody's Lunchbox is great! Gets really crowded though so fair warning. For a sit down, mama Melrose is *chefs kiss* and for picky eaters, the ABC commissary has a plethora of options.
ALSO ! The Fantasmic fireworks show (its amazing and possibly one of my favorite shows) does dinner packages with certain restaurants. Def check it out!
Animal Kingdom Rides: kilamanjaro safari!! Avatar's the flight of passage (if you don't mind 3D), mount everest coaster (if you don't mind cossters), and, though not a ride, the festival of the lion king show is GREAT!! It's for all ages and it's so fun! For food: the yak and Yeti restaurant is a MUST! If you can't get a resi, they also have quick service options outside the restaurant! Also recommend the Tusker House for picky eaters!
Disney springs: food wise, you have a million options but for me, Chef Art Smith's Homecoming is a MUST! Best fried chicken, BBQ pulled pork, AND Mac and cheese ❤️ raglan road is also an excellent choice! As is Enzo's hideaway and the Boathouse! For picky eaters, rainforest Cafe and planet Hollywood are great choices, and if you're more in the mood for something quick, earl's sandwiches, The polite pig, and chicken guy are great options. For me, a Disney trip isn't complete w/out stopping at Ghirardelli's ice cream ❤️
Hope this was helpful!

Things To Do In The Area
Downtown Los Angeles
This is where the hotels in our room blocks are located so these are some great things to do if you don’t want to go far.
For art, you can check out The Broad which is a museum that's free to visit with reservations. Ongoing exhibitions include Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jenny Holzer, Andy Warhol, Barbara Kruger, Roy Lichtenstein, and many more iconic artists.
Grand Central Market is a great place to grab delicious food, as well as get unique jewelry and check out a vintage photo booth. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings they also have a bazaar featuring local makers.
The Last Bookstore is one of the largest independent bookstores in the country, and it's disabled owned. You can browse a large labyrinth of $1 books, find hidden passageways, view art galleries and book sculptures, as well as browse a large collection of vinyl records.
Little Tokyo has lots of options for shopping, eating, and usually spotting some great street fashion. Sunright Tea Studio has great boba, SomiSomi has delicious taiyaki soft serve, and stores like Popkiller, Q Pop, and Kinukuniya are fun shops to stop at.
Precinct DTLA is also a fabulous gay bar downtown that regularly hosts fun parties, drag shows, and events. Check the calendar on their website to see what's going on.
Echo Park
If you want something closer to the venue to explore before the ceremony, check out Echo Park Lake. There's beautiful scenery, animals, a small cafe, picnic tables and some swan peddle boats that you can rent to boat around the lake.
Hollywood
If you're willing to take a short drive of course we recommend checking out Hollywood! We live here so it's where we know the most to do.
La Brea Ave has vintage shopping. We especially recommend Golyester Vintage (which is where Lee got his wedding suit!) as well as The Way We Wore and Recess for browsing some iconic designer and high-end pieces.
If you're into history, we heavily recommend checking out the La Brea Tar Pits while you're in the area. It's a paleontologic excavation site and you can see a variety of fossils and recreations that bring prehistoric animals to life.
Melrose Avenue also has great vintage and modern stores, as well as amazing food. We love eating at Pink's Hot Dogs (a famous LA hot dog stand that's well worth it's long lines), Nomoo (great vegan burgers) and The Village Idiot (fish & chips). Crossroads Trading often has great deals on vintage and Posers LA has punk clothes and accessories, among many other fabulous stores on the street.
West Hollywood also has great gay bars, and gay restaurants, and gay mechanics, and gay dog groomers. You get the gist.

RINGO STARR’S DAUGHTER LEE
1991, November 2nd - HELLO! Magazine
Spotlight on the children of the stars
RINGO STARR’S DAUGHTER LEE
Sixties Fashion – not The Beatles – is what this young tycoon is into
Just look at Ringo Starr’s little girl now!
The ex-Beatle’s daughter, Lee Starkey, now 21 (“People look at me and still think I’m 13”), has become Hollywood’s latest fashion tycoon, selling dazzling sequined hot pants, microscopic mini skirts and psychedelic kaftans like hot-cakes from her very own boutique, slap in the middle of Los Angeles' trendiest district, Melrose Avenue.
“Daddy didn’t help at all with money,” says Lee, giving a delighted spin as she proudly models a selection of her favourite gear, all designed by herself and her partner, Christian Paris, 30.
“Daddy has given me plenty of moral support though – he brought all his friends to our grand opening. Sometimes he just walks in unexpectedly and drags people in off the street to see our clothes!
“He’s thrilled that at last I’ve found something I love to do.”
Lee Starkey was five when her mother Maureen and famous father Ringo divorced in 1975. And although her parents have since remarried (her mother to Hard Rock Cafe founder Isaac Tigrett, and Ringo to actress Barbara Bach) the extended family are all fast friends.
And when their little girl opened her very own boutique in Hollywood, both parents turned up along with brothers Zak, 25, and Jason, 23, to cheer her on.
“I’m by no means an expert on the Beatles,” admits Lee with a pretty smile. “If I want to know something about the Beatles, I simply ask my dad. But what I am drawn to is the fashions of the Sixties. That’s where I get my inspiration. I’ve tried to bring the vibrancy and colour and freedom of those fashions into the Nineties.”
And Lee’s splashily painted shop, dubbed Planet Alice, is doing a roaring trade, proving her ideas have hit the jackpot.
Lee tried acting, make-up school and even the drums before she finally hooked up with partner Christian Paris of whom she says: “We’re very fond of each other, but it’s just platonic.”
Christian already owned a Planet Alice store in London’s Portobello Road, a business he operated along with the London disco Alice in Wonderland.
He still owns his disco, but under Lee’s urging he’s now relocated his clothing boutique to Hollywood.
“We’ve only been open a month, but already I can see Lee’s idea was sound – sales are blistering,” says Christian happily, as he rings up a $1,000 sale to a group of visiting Miami Latinos who were dressed in clothes bought at Planet Alice only the previous day.
“Lee has so much energy, such wonderful ideas. And when she starts modelling like today – the cash register fairly clangs!”

John Lloyd Young At View Arts Center and Cafe Carlyle - Creating Magic For Every Season
John Lloyd Young knows how to bring the magic alive - wherever he performs, and whatever the season.
It's just about the end of summer and the beginning of fall, and JLY wove the two together seamlessly...first with his entertaining summer Unchained Melodies set at View Arts Center in Old Forge, then opening the fall season at Cafe Carlyle in NYC with class and style.
Whenever JLY performs at View, it is in many ways a homecoming for him. He grew up in the Upstate New York and Adirondacks region, and several friends and relatives from the area are in the audience - along with other friends and fans from all over the country. It's always special for all of us to experience the homecoming with him, as he shares special stories with the music, and raises the roof of Gould Hall.
He opened the evening with a powerful "My Prayer", then went right into his lovely, charming version of "I Have Dreamed", showcasing his rich baritone and connection with the audience.
Before the rest of the set, JLY introduced his friend and fellow Brown University theatre alumnus Andrew Hertz accompanying him on the piano...and told a couple of stories of sharing musical theatre knowledge on the university's radio station. The joy that they have collaborating was evident throughout the night.
JLY brought out some of our favorites, like the soulful "Show And Tell", and the passionate "Unchained Melody", which he mentioned always makes his aunt cry whenever he performs it. He came around into the audience for "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" and "Cara Mia", to the delight of everyone in attendance. It always amazes me how well he works his way around the room - especially in a larger venue - to connect with as many people as he can as he spies both new and familiar faces throughout the room.
He performed some Jersey Boys favorites as well - "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", "My Eyes Adored You", "Moody's Mood For Love", and "Big Girls Don't Cry" - while telling stories about the making of the movie. He also included a story about "Big Girls Don't Cry" from his trip to Cuba as part of the arts delegation, which segued well into his stories of singing to and with Smokey Robinson there as he performed a stunning "Ooh Baby Baby".
JLY also performed his beautiful interpretation of "I Only Have Eyes For You", arranged by Ron Melrose for Jersey Boys, and showed his incredible vocal range on "Only The Lonely". I still think he would be the perfect person to play Roy Orbison in a biopic as well.
He completed the evening with everyone on their feet for "Sherry", and everyone talking about what an incredible show it was. For the lady sitting next to me, it was her first time experiencing a JLY performance. She loved every minute, and will be back whenever he performs again at View. It's a musical homecoming that everyone looks forward to every year.
Two days later, JLY opened the fall season in NYC at Cafe Carlyle. He is the perfect choice to open the 2023 Fall Season, as he fits the Carlyle so well with his combination of talent, humor, class, and style.
He included some of the songs from the View set, like "My Prayer", "Show And Tell", "Only The Lonely", and "I Have Dreamed" - which was preceded by the story of how Richard Rodgers was the first person to own an apartment at the Carlyle. He also talked about the history of Cafe Carlyle, including the incredible murals by Academy Award winner Marcel Vertès. You can tell just how much JLY appreciates the rich history of the Carlyle, which makes him the perfect ambassador for them.
He also did most of the Jersey Boys songs from the previous set, complete with audience participation, exciting stories, and that iconic voice that that takes your breath away.
JLY came around the room to all of us for "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me", which really is always a thrill. He also included a few different songs in this set.
One of these was "Nevertheless" - JLY's musical director and pianist for this special night at Cafe Carlyle was Ron Abel, and they did the arrangement of this song that they had done at 54 Below in January. It was truly breathtaking. JLY and Ron also collaborate well together, especially on their arrangement of Nell Carter's "Mean To Me". JLY already blew us away on this song when he debuted it last year, and now it's even more stunning. His vocal range is always out of this world - but this song takes it to an even greater level.
It was so good to hear "Since I Fell For You" in the set again, along with the unreleased Orbison track "Say No More", which is stronger and more emotional than ever.
JLY finished the evening with "Maybe I'm Amazed" (I will always stress how his version surpasses Sir Paul's) and some singing and dancing along to "Sherry", as we all left on a high that still continues long after the performance.
John Lloyd Young is truly a man and performer for all seasons. With a voice like his, you can't help but be moved, inspired, and amazed. I am so glad that we are all on this magical journey with him, and look forward to what the next season and all future seasons bring!
