It’s weird how willing the FNDM was to accept that Ironwood was a villain.
He was the only one who was honest with the main characters, and universally tried to help them. His biggest crime was trying to rebuild the CCT.
It wasn’t until CRWBY realized that their villain wasn’t villainous that they decided to put him into comically, baby-eating villain territory. He acted in a way that makes zero sense for a general to act, and just flat out shot a fucking preteen boy.
It’s like they, like most people, don’t understand that an antagonist isn’t necessarily a villain. They could have, and 100% should have, had an arc where Super RWBY disabuses him of his “I did what I had to do” mantra.
Instead they had RWBY decide he was spending too much money. On what? An army to protect his country from fairy tale monsters. Because fairy tale monsters literally exist, and Ironwood is basically the only person in the setting trying to actually do something about it.
I swear that the Burgermeister of Meisterburger had a better villain arc.
