This post is for anyone interested in forensic science.
Forensic science is separated into what I call The three B’s Blood, Bodied and Bones. I’ll lay out the pros and cons for each option and things that will make each one easier.
Blood: easier if you like physics and math.
Pros: Learning liquid physics, easier to keep a consistent work schedule, smells the least bad
Cons: if you don’t like math it will suck, getting comments about Dexter EVERY TIME you say your job, sometime really mentally taxing.
Bodies: easier if you have an interest in medicine and surgery and if you have a strong stomach around guts
Pros: Learning some things that can apply in first aid situations, learning how to identify COD (kinda cool), medical examiner pays really well
Cons: Sometimes smells the worst, hardest on people emotionally, requires really steady hands, usually less consistent work schedule.
Bones: easier if you are comfortable with various temperatures, like puzzles, have a strong gut for rotting stuff and are fine with bugs
Pros: least emotionally taxing, you aren’t working for law enforcement, you get to travel, you get to solve puzzles, you get to discover historical sites with skeletons.
Cons: sometimes the body isn’t fully decomposed and it stinks, a LOT of bugs, never home, grave robbing jokes.
They are all good options it’s just depends on what you like

I've been on a forensic pathology elective the past few weeks, and I'm coming to the strange realization that sometimes it's easier to meet the patient when they're already dead. Once they're dead, it's over. They can't get hurt again. I found it far more stressful to care for patients who had been shot and survived, where lots of things can still go off the rails for them, than to autopsy patients who had been shot and killed.

Also for this year’s Mother’s Day, a little very morbid yet silly Headcanon about Mary Grayson I simply cannot stop repeating no matter how hard I try lol;
While her mother’s side of the family were trapeze acrobats, her father’s side composed of people with a bit more…morbid professions; mainly medical examiners (medically trained personal who check over the recently deceased to find a cause of suspicious passing), funeral directors, morticians or in the case of own father, a dentist. Mary actually has training on how to be a medical examiner courtesy of her grandfather despite her officially taking her mother’s side of family business as an acrobat. Though, on one tour in England during a stroll through London, John and Mary passed by a museum for the morbid which was once a mortuary. Said museum sold gag cardboard ID tags that are meant to be placed on the bare toes of the recently deceased as souvenirs. So Mary and John bought them and joking if Mary is sleeping in for the morning, John would put on these tags on her toe, after all there is the phrase ‘being dead asleep’.
To build on this, there are occasions of when Dick was sleeping in and Mary happens passing by him on a lazy day , he too would have one of these tags placed on his big toe. More often than not, these tags would even be filled out by John and Mary up to even the causes of ‘death’, most of common of them being “Tickling Induced Cardiac Arrest”. It doesn’t take too much to know what tired out the one wearing that toe tag into that deep death like sleep.
In a world where Mary Grayson had lived after that fateful performance and was raising Dick as a single mother, especially as he grew up, Mary would scale back that practice big time and she’d never get the finish filling out every one of those tags in her collection as quickly, maybe having plenty of blank ones to the present day.
So basically yeah, Mary Grayson has family who dealt with the dead and even as an acrobat, that part of her lineage never truly left her.

The fingerprinting of a decomposed corpse sometimes requires the medical examiner to remove the dead guy's fingertips and slip them over her own gloved fingertips -- allowing her to take the prints.

What’s your plans for the future? Do you have them or does it, staring ominously at you, makes all your thought evaporate into non existence?
i do have plans for the future, one of my biggest plans is to become a medical examiner, another big plan of mine along with becoming a medical examiner is become a better artist and maybe be able to do commissions and sell prints and stickers if people are interested, so yeah :)))) thanks for the ask!!!

Okay Fellas I might’ve had this silly idea from a long time ago but I feel the time has come to further dwell on it;
I Headcanon that for Mary Grayson (Dick’s birth mom), both sides of her parentage had differing trades that are family affairs. From her mother’s side, they were acrobats and gymnasts to which Mary would eventually take up
It’s her father’s side that is the point of discussion though; while own father himself is a dentist, her own grandparents, uncles, aunts and even cousins from that side are a cavalcade of morticians, grave diggers, casket builders and most of all medical examiners (unlike the more common place coroner, medical examiners are required to have medical training and degrees)
Even though she at the end of the day became an acrobat, Mary still learned lessons and skills of examining the recently deceased from that parentage. Not just with knowledge of actual causes of passing or the standard practices and places for said examination but also what tools and their functions to use. All she needs is an official degree basically at that point. Oh and yes she does indeed watch those real life crime and mystery shows which often deal with the subject matter, most of all Forensic Files
So yeah, Medical Examiner Mary Grayson
If you lovelies have any silly headcanons to build in this idea, please reply and/or Reblog. I am very curious about you guys’ thoughts
