Writing Notes: Poison Ivy & Poison Oak
Poison ivy and poison oak - plants that cause an allergic skin reaction in most people who are exposed to them.
Poison Ivy - generally thought of as a climbing vine, can also grow as a shrub or bush.
It has leaves that are elliptical in shape and grow in groups of 3 on a stem.
Common in the US, except in the southwest, Alaska, and Hawaii.
Poison Oak - grows as a shrub
Has leaves that are shaped like oak leaves and grow in groups of 3 to a stem.
Common in the US, especially on the west coast from Mexico to Canada.
Symptoms
The symptoms for poison ivy and poison oak are the same.
Usually the first symptoms to appear are: itchiness and
swelling in the areas of contact.
The itchy rash that follows is made up of small pimple-like bumps (sometimes referred to as papules), as well as
blisters that later break open, ooze, and crust over.
In most cases, the condition goes away in 2 weeks.
Not everyone is sensitive to poison ivy and poison oak.
However, 9 out of 10 people who come in contact with either of the plants will have an allergic reaction to some degree.
All parts of the plants are poisonous and the amount of time it takes for an allergic reaction to develop varies from person to person.
The extent and severity of the reaction depends on the length of exposure, type of contact, and how sensitive the person is to the plants.
If a person is going to have an allergic reaction, it will usually occur within one or two days of exposure. However, some people have a reaction within an hour, whereas others don’t experience a reaction until 5 days after the exposure.
Causes
The substance that causes the allergic reaction is the same for both plants. It is an oily resin called urushiol.
It only takes a small amount of the resin to cause a reaction.
The resin can be transferred to the skin by directly touching the plant or indirectly by coming in contact with something that has touched the plant, such as tools, animals, or clothing. Although animals are rarely affected, they can carry the resin on their fur and transfer it to humans.
According to the experts at the University of Maryland Medical Center, the ‘‘chemical [resin] can remain active for more than a year.’’
Treatment
Anyone who comes in contact with either plant should wash the exposed area with soap and water immediately.
Taking a bath immediately after contact is not recommended, because that could spread the resin to other areas of the body.
All clothing, including shoes and shoelaces, should be removed carefully and either washed separately or discarded.
For minor cases, hydrocortisone cream and Calamine lotion can provide relief until the symptoms disappear.
Over-the-counter Benadryl capsules help with the itching.
Some people find oatmeal or baking soda baths to be soothing as well.
Oral steroids, such as prednisone, are available for more serious cases, especially those affecting the face, eyes, mouth, or genitals.
If signs of infection develop, such as pus and a fever, patients should contact their doctors.
Patients should consult their physicians before they use any ointments that contain benzocaine or zirconium, because they can cause an allergic reaction that worsens the condition.
Antihistamine ointments are not recommended for the same reason. The experts at the Alabama Cooperative Extension System caution that ‘‘some people have severe allergic reactions to these plants and can have swelling in the throat, breathing problems, weakness, dizziness, and bluish lips.’’
Emergency medical care should be sought if any serious reactions occur.
Prevention
The best prevention is know what the plants look like and to avoid them.
A common saying should be kept in mind: Leaves of three, let them be.
People who plan to be in an area where poison ivy and poison oak might be found should wear protective clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
Eradication of the plants should be handled with care.
As stated by the experts at the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, ‘‘burning can be dangerous and is not recommended for disposal or as a control measure, because the toxic oil from the plant can be carried in the smoke.’’
Instead they recommend spraying the plants with glyphosate, which is commonly known as the brands Roundup or Kleenup.

OK OK
This is an overview of a Creep AU I have
@sp00kywrites thank u for asking me about it :)
Creepypasta Mafia (?) AU
Ok so overall idea
The world is divided into 2 smaller worlds that kinda co-exist. These worlds are the human world and the monster world. They aren’t on 2 separate plains if reality but more or less one is invisible to the other, if that makes sense
Some monsters interact with humans and some humans interact with monsters, but it’s normally all about business. Relationships are often looked down upon.
Slender owns a massive company that was given to him through the family (the other slender brothers do have stuff going on). It’s one of the largest companies in the world and has monopolies and shit. His mansion is in Alabama (where marble hornets took place) but he has warehouses and ports throughout the country.
Most of the creeps can be hired to do certain stuff. Like Jeff is a trained assassin, BEN is really good at stealing and getting info, Jack often is consulted for medical stuff, etc (I think a cool idea would be LJ owning a huge circus and being mega rich). Most of them have bases in certain areas, but they all have ventured into Slender Woods at some point.
I have 2 OC’s for this AU. One is a demon and the other is a shadow person. Lola, a shadow person, is an assassin. Not to big and they don’t charge much, but their name is known I guess. Lyssa is a demon who owns what’s called the ‘New Orleans Port’ (it’s basically just a massive port and makes her a shit load of money).
That’s all for now, but if you want a certain character in more detail lmk

it's officially november 2024. I can't believe ive been on HRT for 10 years. I want to feel accomplished, but I don't.
Im just kind of sad about things. I had to do so much stupid shit that I never wanted to do and jump through so many hoops and wait for so long and hurt myself a whole lot and pretend to be someone else at appointments just to get these meds, and I still have to do it all the time. It just blows. Sometimes, they don't even bother giving me the correct dosages. They laugh and cut the dose, or they just don't send the refill into the pharmacy for a week. "An error." One time, I called the insurance company refill hotline in desperation. The guy that answered the first time was in Alabama and he just said my meds were too dangerous to refill and hung up. The second guy was in Minnesota, and he said similar but tried to justify himself. Apparently, there was a serious risk of cervical cancer. I told him i didn't have a cervix to get cancer in because I have a penis and that I felt ill without my meds, but he told me we still couldn't rule out the risk. Whatever. I will spend my whole day's wages on price-gauged meds online. I don't care. I will order more if I have to. I will take them without blood tests if you don't put in my lab orders. I will lie to you and stop taking my meds the night before my test if I know you are just going to say my estrogen levels are "dangerously high" every time I go in. I'll shut my mouth if you're just going to tell me I know nothing about this treatment I've been doing with and without medical supervision every day for 10 years. I don't care. Why do I have to do this shit?
I lost all my before-times friends because I was a total asshole and didnt care about anything, and then the rest left for other reasons. They either didn't like my lifestyle or just drifted away because I had to move 100 miles away to even get a realistic chance to transition. Everybody but my wife leaves. I love her so much. Even other trans people leave. They get caught up in their own problems and ghost me, or i get caught up in mine and ghost them. Some of them aren't alive anymore or probably aren't alive anymore. Nobody cares how you felt about them or how much you trusted them, though. To them, they're just names on a screen. They never understand how it feels, for some reason. It's weird having to socialize online out of necessity and then having the value of those relationships diminished by people who reject you categorically. I feel like those relationships were often realer, anyways. She couldnt make eye contact with you, but she was in our chat talking about wanting to die and boys she wished gave her the time of day. Yeah, i mostly called her a fake name. We all have a bunch of them. I still liked her a lot better than you, and she knew way more about me than my parents.
Whatever. I'm tired. Goodnight and happy Halloween and November
It's been 10 years and now I have woman sadness instead of twink sadness. Maybe I can schedule a surgery consult by the end of the year
Whatever

Are you still ttc? Or did you stop/consider other options? And if so, what kind of advice do you have to someone struggling to conceive?
We are not TTC at this time, I’m on Phexxi birth control because I can’t take hormonal birth control. We can’t afford another pregnancy/child at the moment.
We are considering IUI in the future possibly, because all of the funds we had saved up for IVF have gone to my medical care in the past year. I also don’t know what the future of IVF looks like in the US after the Alabama ruling.
Obligatory I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROVIDER just someone who has been TTC for a long time
I have a few pieces of advice:
Surround yourself with people going through similar journeys. If you need LGBT specific groups, FB is a good place to start. TTC and struggling is such an emotional thing to go through and it’s one of the most difficult things my spouse and I have dealt with. You’re not alone.
Try not to schedule sex if you’re conceiving this way. We tried the SMEP method for a while and it added a lot of unnecessary pressure and stress on my spouse.
Make sure whoever is involved in the conception has had at least had basic fertility screening. The gestational prospective parent should have a fertility panel like FSH, TSH, estrogen, androgens, etc tested. If the other parent or a sperm donor is contributing sperm/semen, you can get inexpensive tests that analyze sperm count at the pharmacy. However they can’t tell you the health and motility of the sperm. OBGYNs and MFMs offer pre-conception counseling that usually includes testing.
I’ve heard a lot of people have success with at-home insemination kits, but do your research! There are also cups that work like menstrual cups that can keep sperm near the cervix, and I actually like those a lot.
If you’re like me with PCOS, prescription metformin has really helped regulate my cycle. I also took myo-inositol while I was TTC. ANECDOTALLY I have developed a large cyst on my ovary since stopping inositol.
If you’re under 35 and have been trying for over a year, the recommendation is to schedule an OBGYN visit. If you’re 35-40, 6 months is the recommendation, and over 40 consult right away.
Clue has been a really great tracker app that I’ve used for years. They have TTC and typical menstruation modes, and a pregnancy mode. Their servers are outside the US and cannot be affected by US subpoena requests. They are gender neutral and very accurate in their ovulation predictions, even with my irregular cycle. They’ve tracked me through TTC, miscarriages and my stillbirth.

State-by-State: What are your abortion rights in 2024?
In June 2022, the United States Supreme Court made the morally bankrupt decision to overturn the landmark 1973 case Roe v. Wade, which had previously ruled that the choice of whether to end or continue a pregnancy belonged to the individual rather than the government, federally protecting the right to abortion.
Now, with the responsibility of protecting the right to reproductive freedom left to the states, it can be hard to keep track of the constantly changing laws and regulations. Choosing the Right Car Accident Lawyer in Birmingham: A Complete Guide
Car accidents can upend lives, leaving victims to face physical injuries, emotional distress, and financial hardships. Navigating the aftermath of a car accident often requires legal expertise, especially when dealing with insurance companies and seeking fair compensation. For residents in Birmingham, finding the right legal representation is crucial.
This guide outlines the essential steps and considerations in choosing the best car accident lawyer Birmingham has to offer.
Why Hiring a Car Accident Lawyer in Birmingham Is Crucial
Car accidents often involve legal and financial complexities. A skilled car accident lawyer in Birmingham understands state laws, insurance regulations, and the nuances of personal injury claims. Their role goes beyond filing paperwork; they advocate for victims’ rights, build strong cases, and help secure compensation for medical bills, lost wages, property damage, and emotional suffering.
Key Qualities to Look for in a Car Accident Lawyer
When choosing a car accident lawyer Birmingham, there are several qualities to prioritize:
1. Experience in Personal Injury Law
An experienced lawyer specializing in personal injury law, particularly car accident cases, can provide invaluable expertise. Look for attorneys with a proven track record of handling cases similar to yours.
2. Knowledge of Alabama Laws
Alabama follows contributory negligence rules, which can make securing compensation challenging if the victim is found even slightly at fault. A knowledgeable lawyer can help navigate these rules effectively.
3. Strong Communication Skills
A good lawyer communicates clearly, keeping clients informed about the progress of their case and explaining complex legal terms in an understandable way.
4. Reputation and Client Reviews
Client testimonials and reviews provide insight into an attorney’s professionalism, success rate, and dedication to client satisfaction.
5. Contingency Fee Arrangement
Most reputable car accident lawyers operate on a contingency fee basis, meaning clients pay only if the case is won. This arrangement reduces financial stress for victims.
Steps to Find the Best Car Accident Lawyer in Birmingham
1. Start with Research
Begin your search by exploring local attorneys who specialize in car accident cases. Online directories, legal review platforms, and recommendations from friends and family are excellent starting points.
2. Verify Credentials
Ensure the lawyer is licensed to practice in Alabama and has relevant experience in personal injury and car accident cases. Certifications, awards, and professional memberships are indicators of expertise.
3. Schedule Consultations
Most car accident lawyers offer free initial consultations. Use this opportunity to discuss your case, evaluate their approach, and determine if they are a good fit for your needs.
4. Ask the Right Questions
During consultations, ask questions such as:
How many car accident cases have you handled?
What is your success rate?
How will you communicate updates on my case?
What are the expected timelines for resolution?
5. Evaluate Their Resources
A well-established car accident lawyer Birmingham will have access to resources such as accident reconstruction experts, medical professionals, and investigators. These resources strengthen your case.
6. Review Fee Structures
Understand the lawyer’s fee structure and ensure it aligns with your budget. A clear agreement on fees avoids misunderstandings later.
How a Car Accident Lawyer Builds Your Case
1. Gathering Evidence
A Birmingham car accident lawyer collects and preserves evidence, including:
Police reports and medical records
Photos and videos from the accident scene
Witness testimonies
Expert analyses, such as accident reconstructions
2. Calculating Damages
Attorneys calculate the full extent of damages, including:
Medical expenses (current and future)
Lost income due to inability to work
Pain and suffering
Property damage
3. Handling Insurance Companies
Insurance companies often prioritize minimizing payouts. A lawyer handles all communication, ensuring victims don’t accept lowball settlement offers and protecting their interests throughout the process.
4. Negotiating Settlements
Most car accident cases are resolved through settlements. An experienced lawyer negotiates aggressively to secure fair compensation.
5. Representing Clients in Court
If a settlement cannot be reached, the case may go to trial. A skilled car accident lawyer Birmingham presents evidence, argues the case, and advocates for maximum compensation in court.
Common Challenges in Car Accident Cases
Car accident cases often involve unique challenges, including:
1. Contributory Negligence
Alabama’s strict contributory negligence law means victims found even 1% at fault may be barred from recovering damages. A skilled lawyer combats these claims to protect clients’ rights.
2. Dealing with Uninsured Drivers
If the at-fault driver lacks insurance, pursuing compensation can be complicated. A lawyer explores options such as uninsured motorist coverage to secure compensation.
3. Long-Term Injuries
Serious accidents can result in long-term injuries requiring ongoing medical care. An attorney ensures these future costs are included in the claim.
Benefits of Hiring a Local Birmingham Car Accident Lawyer
Choosing a local lawyer offers several advantages:
Familiarity with Local Laws: They understand state-specific laws and court systems.
Knowledge of Local Resources: Access to local experts, medical professionals, and investigators strengthens your case.
Personalized Service: Local attorneys often provide a more personalized and accessible experience.
Avoiding Common Mistakes After a Car Accident
Victims should take the following steps to protect their rights and strengthen their case:
Seek Medical Attention: Prompt medical care not only ensures health but also provides critical documentation for the case.
Report the Accident: File a police report to establish an official record.
Avoid Discussing Fault: Refrain from admitting fault, even casually, as it can be used against you.
Document Everything: Keep records of medical bills, repair costs, and lost wages.
Consult an Attorney Early: Engage a car accident lawyer Birmingham as soon as possible to avoid missing deadlines and making costly mistakes.
How a Car Accident Lawyer Maximizes Compensation
A qualified lawyer works tirelessly to maximize compensation by:
Thoroughly investigating the accident
Documenting all damages comprehensively
Negotiating aggressively with insurance companies
Taking the case to trial if necessary
With their expertise, victims can focus on recovery while their attorney handles the complexities of the legal process.
Conclusion
Navigating the aftermath of a car accident is a daunting experience, but the right car accident lawyer Birmingham can make all the difference. By providing legal expertise, negotiating with insurers, and advocating for maximum compensation, they ensure victims receive the support and resources they need to move forward.
Choosing the right attorney requires careful research, clear communication, and a focus on experience and expertise. With a skilled advocate by your side, you can confidently pursue justice and rebuild your life after a car accident.

Legal Options For When I get Hit By A Car and They Drive Off
waiting for law enforcement. In Alabama, leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense, punishable by fines, license suspension, and even imprisonment. Unfortunately, hit-and-run cases remain common across the state, particularly in densely populated areas like Birmingham and Mobile.
Nearly 700,000 hit-and-run crashes occur annually in the United States, a troubling statistic that reflects the frequency of these incidents. You can learn more about these cases and their impact from AAA’s hit-and-run data.
Common Reasons Drivers Flee the Scene
While leaving the scene of an accident is illegal, drivers often flee for the following reasons:
Driving Without Insurance: Alabama has one of the highest rates of uninsured drivers in the country, which contributes significantly to hit-and-run cases. Explore how Alabama handles uninsured drivers to understand the legal challenges (Insurance Information Institute).
Driving Under the Influence (DUI): Intoxicated drivers may flee to avoid DUI charges.
Fear of Consequences: Drivers with expired licenses, outstanding warrants, or other legal issues may panic and leave the scene.
Emotional Responses: Some drivers flee out of fear or shock, not fully realizing the consequences of their actions.
Steps to Take After a Hit-and-Run Accident
If you’ve been involved in a hit-and-run accident, follow these steps to protect yourself and strengthen your case:
1. Prioritize Safety
Move to a safe location and assess injuries. Call for medical assistance if needed.
2. Report the Incident to Law Enforcement
A police report is critical for documenting the hit-and-run and may aid in identifying the driver. Provide details about the fleeing vehicle, such as its make, model, color, and any part of its license plate.
3. Gather Evidence
Take photos of the accident scene, your vehicle’s damage, and any visible injuries. Look for traffic cameras or nearby businesses that may have captured footage. Witness statements can also be crucial.
4. Notify Your Insurance Company
If you have uninsured motorist (UM) coverage, you can file a claim for damages related to the hit-and-run. This includes medical expenses, lost wages, and property damage.
5. Consult an Attorney
A hit-and-run case can be legally complex. An experienced attorney can help you navigate insurance claims, pursue compensation, and hold the responsible party accountable if they are identified.
Your Legal Options After a Hit-and-Run
Even if the at-fault driver is not found, you may still have recourse:
1. Uninsured Motorist Coverage
Alabama law requires insurance companies to offer uninsured motorist (UM) coverage, which can compensate you for medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering. Check out how uninsured motorist coverage works in Alabama to better understand your rights (Alabama Insurance Department).
2. Identifying the Driver
If law enforcement locates the at-fault driver, you can file a personal injury claim to recover damages for:
Medical costs.
Property damage.
Lost wages.
Pain and suffering.
Punitive damages may also be available in cases of gross negligence, such as a DUI-related hit-and-run.
Challenges in Hit-and-Run Cases
Hit-and-run cases can be challenging due to:
Difficulty Identifying the Driver: Without clear evidence, tracking down the driver can be difficult.
Insurance Limitations: Even with UM coverage, insurance companies may try to minimize your payout.
Contributory Negligence Rule: Alabama’s strict contributory negligence laws mean that if you’re found even 1% at fault, you may not be able to recover damages.
These hurdles make it essential to have an experienced attorney advocating for you.
How Morris Haynes Can Help
At Morris Haynes Attorneys at Law, we are dedicated to helping hit-and-run victims recover the compensation they deserve. Here’s how we can support you:
1. Investigating the Accident
Our team works closely with law enforcement, gathers evidence, and reviews surveillance footage to identify the responsible driver.
2. Negotiating with Insurance Companies
We handle all communications with your insurance provider to ensure you receive fair compensation under your UM coverage.
3. Pursuing Legal Action

Understanding Medicare Advantage Plans: What You Need to Know
Medicare Advantage Plans have become a popular choice for millions of Americans seeking comprehensive healthcare coverage. These plans, offered by private insurers, provide an alternative to Original Medicare, often including additional benefits such as vision, dental, and prescription drug coverage. However, for individuals in regions like Medicare Alabama, Medicare Houston, and Medicare Phoenix, it’s essential to understand the factors that make a Medicare Advantage Plan suitable for your needs.
What Are Medicare Advantage Plans?
Medicare Advantage, also known as Medicare Part C, combines Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance) into a single plan. Many of these plans also offer Part D, which covers prescription drugs. While Medicare Advantage Plans often come with lower premiums than Original Medicare, they have their own costs and limitations that vary by location.
Why Location Matters in Medicare Advantage
The benefits, costs, and network of Medicare Advantage Plans can differ significantly depending on where you live. For example:
In Medicare Alabama, rural residents may face limited plan options or networks compared to urban areas.
In Medicare Houston, the competitive market ensures a wider variety of plans with enhanced benefits, but you’ll need to consider which doctors and hospitals are in-network.
In Medicare Phoenix, retirees often enjoy plans with additional perks, such as fitness programs or transportation for medical appointments.
Key Considerations for Choosing a Plan
When selecting a Medicare Advantage Plan, keep these factors in mind:
Provider NetworksMedicare Advantage Plans typically require you to use doctors, hospitals, and other providers within their network. For instance, in Houston, you’ll find many plans with robust networks of specialists and primary care physicians. In Phoenix or Alabama, the network might be smaller, making it important to confirm that your preferred providers are covered.
Out-of-Pocket CostsWhile premiums may be low—or even zero—you’ll still be responsible for other expenses, such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. Ensure the plan’s annual out-of-pocket maximum is affordable for you.
Additional BenefitsMany Medicare Advantage Plans offer extra benefits like dental, vision, and hearing coverage. Some plans in Medicare Phoenix and Medicare Alabama also include wellness programs or telehealth services, which can be valuable for seniors.
Prescription Drug CoverageIf you take medications regularly, check whether your prescriptions are included in the plan’s formulary and how much they’ll cost.
The Importance of Comparing Plans
Given the variety of options available in Alabama, Houston, and Phoenix, it’s crucial to compare plans based on your unique healthcare needs and budget. Use Medicare’s Plan Finder tool or consult with a licensed Medicare advisor to get personalized recommendations.
Final Thoughts
Medicare Advantage Plans can provide excellent value, but they’re not one-size-fits-all. Residents in Medicare Alabama, Medicare Houston, and Medicare Phoenix should carefully review their options to ensure they choose a plan that fits their healthcare needs and financial situation.
Take the time to research, compare plans, and understand the benefits each one offers. By doing so, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing you’ve made the best choice for your health and future.
