It’s so crazy to me how most MedCats decide to become one when they’re young, a kit or a young apprentice. Bc like. They can’t have kits or a mate. And a six year old can’t fully understand what it means to never be allowed to have a lover or children. And once they BECOME a medcat it’s not like they can just stop if they regret their decision. ALSO LIKE in cases of Jayfeather where they were pressured/forced into becoming a medcat that’s just worse. Like it’s just completely out of their control then.

kittypet kestrelflight + antpelt rewrite under cut

kestrel and ant came to windclan after hearing stories of battle and glory, feeling like they would have more purpose there than being stuck at home as kittypets. onestar accepts them into the clan and kestrelpaw finds barkface’s work interesting and decides to become a medicine cat whilst antpaw sticks with becoming a warrior.

however clan life wasn’t kind to either of them. they were scrutanized for their kittypet backgrounds, which drove antpelt to the dark forest to try and prove himself that he is a true warrior and can serve his clan just as well as the others. after kestrelflight failed to save his friend from death, he started to question if he was really happy with his life in the clan. but he’s windclan’s only medicine cat, and he feels a sense of duty in his role. but despite everything, he still longs to go home. sometimes kestrel will pass by the twolegplace to gather catmint, he’ll see other kittypets he knew or maybe he smells scents that bring him back to his kithood and it only makes him even more homesick. maybe once whistlepaw is fully trained can he leave and go home again.

u know what, sure, i've got my issues with feathertail's characterisation in A Shadow In Riverclan (specifically in regards to how they wrote her relationship with sasha) but honestly big up to her for breaking free of the "shallow dead love interest" box she was sitting in fanon-wise before that. im glad that a lot of people's first impression of feathertail is now about her trauma her and trust issues from that book rather than just about crowfeather. not because female characters with romance centric arcs are worth less obviously, but because warrior cats has such a deficit of major female characters that are not heavily associated with romance and/or motherhood that knocking one halfway off the list is, to some extent, a tiny little victory

I think it’d be cool if the medicine cats had like, assistants. Warriors, but with a decent knowledge of identifying herbs. They could preform normal warrior duties, but if needed, look for herbs, and help with more difficult/many patients. Medcat apprentices do most of this, but I think it’d be good to have extra help.

(wcau) due to his patch of territory being on clan borders, house has plenty of neighboring clan enemies (plainsclan territory and his overlap but since he's an ally and codstar's close friend, he's safe to hunt there even in winter when prey is scarcer; hunting on other clan territories is not as easily overlooked)

the deputy of this other (as of yet unnamed) clan has a particular bone to pick with him. ternstorm (tritter, name may change) isn't afraid to harm a free-roaming medicine cat, nor is he worried his torment -- more than is necessary for chasing someone from clan territory -- could end in his demotion as volestar (vogler) doesn't like house either. volestar, however, doesn't sign off on house's death either, as doing so would end in war
