The first songs on Mock Media's LP "Mock Media II" have a jagged post punk sound that recalls Wire and Pere Ubu. When I read the introductory to the band, I saw that members were also in Pottery, Crack Cloud, and Painted Fruit ("Fruit Salad" is a gem of a record...apparently the band used to be Painted Fruits and ended up dropping the 's'). What I love about this release is the sharp taken about halfway through the album. Suddenly, Mock Media are a beautiful, soulful, harmonizing folk band.

Mock Media is based in Vernon, British Columbia. This LP was originally issued by Meat Machine, but is now being reissued by Mac's Record Label (Mac DeMarco's label if you didn't know).

The "independent record label group" Tin Angel Records, Meat Machine, and Unheard of Hope, have been putting out some great music lately. Listen to Cistern.

ngl this month has been Rough™: for whatever reason, I've been going back to Thief for something familiar. which is. well. it's definitely not the same as relaxing, I have never felt relaxed playing the original Thief games lmao but it is familiar! I wrote an outline for a longer fan comic set after Deadly Shadows using themes/etc I enjoyed from the 2014 reboot but I got sidetracked reading up on the gnarlier politics involved in the Industrial Revolution. so. we'll see what happens with that!

This Machine has Meat in It, by Bastard Crew.

This game looks like a great option for folks who love settings like SCP, or Control, but with a bigger focus on the daily office life and how it intermingles so well with cosmic horror. I think the way that the game presents corporations as an intelligent entity, a horrible slathering gluttonous thing, is such a good metaphor, really ripe for metaphors about how once capitalism gets big enough, it can create entities that are hard to stop.

The game is also very cleanly laid out! Bright colours, simple graphics that add to the corporate-handout feeling of the game, and some really evocative pieces of art dotted throughout the game.

If you liked Paranoia, and want to combine the panic of trying to hide parts of yourself from a bigger entity with the weird cosmic terror that comes with games like Triangle Agency, you should check out This Machine has Meat in It!

Sewn and stitched by me. I drew the floral designs to custom fit the squares then stitched them into the quilt on my longarm. Semi-pro tip: use whiteboard markers and plexiglass to test out your design ideas before you stitch them in!
