I told myself I was gonna take it easy today and moooostly I have? But I did bake cookies. And Jillybean kept getting into a pile of neglected kitchen implements I had on a barstool at the island, so after chasing her off of it 20 times, I started sorting the stuff and putting it away or in the sink to clean
Similarly, Jon had to clear everything off the craft table. Because Jill is a monkey goblin child.
I also dragged the mealkit box inside because it was delivered while Jon was sleeping, and just now I put the mealkits away, which meant rearranging the fridge a bit
I also put away the cookies I baked and put away the clean dishes, and I was gonna wash some dishes and feed the cats but I started getting woozy/dizzy so I am taking a break
Maybe I will rest more tomorrow

Spaghetti it is then. Cool. Yeah.
Debating on food.
Flavor-wise? Want to make this Za'Atar-Crusted Grilling Cheese dish. But dear gawd, I don't feel like firing the oven rn or the clean-up...
Slightly more approachable: this one-pot vegan cauliflower and bean soup.
Another option, ramen or something else similarly low energy-demanding.

Clans cat refuse to honor a name you chose for your kits?
It's rare, but I think that's how they'd respond to an especially bad name.
It has to be pretty bad, though. A name with no value, an insulting one, or one totally unbefitting of a Clanmate. You may not dishonor a child who has done nothing wrong.
For the record, if BB!Rainflower so much as suggested the idea of giving a kitten a Dishonor Title, bare minimum Hailstar would have screamed at her. BB!Hailstar is the successor of Volestar, successor of Dark "Queen’s Rights" Star.
But that's pretty severe! Giving your child a pretty bad name (like "Mealkit"/"Woomew"/"Dead mouse child") without ill intention would probably just result in the parent getting talked-to and the Clan corrects to "Mousekit" or something of the sort.

It has been a while since I posted about my mealkit stuff. It is still going well 👍Have a picture of a salad I made today. Has grilled chicken, chopped bacon, eggs, with spinach and tomatoes. Spinach is tossed in a sour cream/ranch mixture. (Also have a Raven pic)

chip and aria!
how did they meet? they met at a frat party freshman year. i don’t think their was initially a lot of interest there, besides aria being really hot, just because they’re both kind of uptight and particular and thought they were smart enough to know that would be a nonstarter. they were polite over red solo cups, but his friend took more of a liking to her, and called dibs in his own weird way. but i do like to think it was early in that chip entered aria’s rolodex of backup guys with generational wealth to potentially seduce if she never found true love.
who is more likely to make huge declarations of love in front of other people? chip doesn’t get drunk a lot and it’s a good thing because otherwise he would be saying a lot of shit no ones ready to hear about his baby.. like aria is too cool to behave like that but chip sure is not.
who developed a crush on the other first? chip and he was gonna kill himself about it. jkjk but he did feel like a piece of shit. like we’ve said i think they got close mostly because she just kept getting ditched by her drunk boyfriend and chip’s the kind of guy to offer rides home and like. i think he and ****** very much had a dynamic of chip covering for him all the time. like he was doing this guy’s schoolwork, he was standing up to their frat standards for his ass, and he kind of just took it upon himself to find those little ways to make up for him being a shitty boyfriend. but anyway i think through trying to be that he actually did just catch feelings. she was still in the slammer there for a second.
who is more protective? i think they both are but chip a little more bc well frankly it's just what she deserves. like in all seriousness i think the nature of their like earliest relationship gave him an understanding of her a lot of people don’t get upfront with aria. not to sound dramatic. but i think that being the case he’s had a front row to the way she protects herself and wants to try to relieve like. any amount of that.
who believes in soulmates? neither of them really, but not in a sad way. they found each other and they made it happen and that’s what matters. why would they give credit to anyone else?
who cooks the dinner, and who washes the dishes? they’re such a mealkit couple omggg. they’ve got that hellofresh subscription on lockkkkk. and w/ that being the case i think they could probably just take turns cooking, since the hard parts are done. they agreed to split doing the dishes too but chip ends up doing them slightly more.
who does most of the driving? chip. if i havent made it clear aria's a princess now.
if they get married, what was the wedding vibe? frankly i think their wedding would be gorgeous. like i cannot lie. i think they both have like a cool aesthetic. hollywood meets kennedys. kardashians meets the polo bear. some gorgeous venue that did some heavy lifting like a vineyard or like a really nice giant house or whatever. kind of minimalist but very classy about it.
how did they decide what to name their child(ren)? i think it was collaborative to an extent, like he was involved in throwing out ideas, but i think on all three kids, aria got to make the final call. like i think it’d be the case even if being pregnant didn’t dial everything about her up to 100, but especially because of that, she got to make executive decisions. and ultimately, she’s got good taste and he trusts her judgment. that carries across a lot of different Arenas of their life. she’s calling the shots babe: she decorated their house, she chooses where they go on vacation, and she got to name their kids. and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

november 2022, purple carrot meal reviews:
penne with pesto and broccolini:
eating straight up roasted broccolini (or any of the brassica oleracea cultivars) not mixed into a larger dish will never be exciting to me, very "well I guess I'll eat these vegetables before I have the good-tasting part," but at least it wasn't just straight up broccoli.
The pesto is fucking delicious. It's made with sage rather than basil, and you put some spinach in there too (which might be typical for pesto but I've never made pesto before.) Taking a bite and discovering that some of it has snuck up into the hollow penne tubes is a wonderful little surprise treat every time.
The pasta was gluten free, I guess, which isn't relevant to me, but also wasn't something I would have noticed if it hadn't been labelled as such, so good job there.
It made me use the food processor, which means I had to clean the food processor, which I don't appreciate from a meal kit. I thought these were supposed to be fast and easy!
Still, extremely tasty, less work than I expected, and I felt very nourished. There's a reason I made this one first. 4/5
"thanksgiving sandwiches"
I don't think there's any way to spend 40 minutes making a sandwich and feel good about it. These are ciabatta rolls on which you put an array of ingredients that will dirty half a dozen dishes in your kitchen. Bowls, a saucepan, a roasting pan, a whisk, the gang's all here. The main "meat" of the sandwich is roasted brussels sprouts, which is not exciting and also incredibly impractical. Putting large solid orbs in your sandwich means the process of eating the sandwich is centered on the effort to prevent those orbs from falling out and rolling away. They had the audacity to expect me to also dip the sandwiches into a gravy mixture, which would be an insane thing to do with any sandwich, but even moreso with one as precarious as this.
The other main ingredient is broccoli slaw, which would stay in the sandwich well enough if the bread were allowed to embrace it, however these huge brussels orbs prevent this, so actually this is a brussels sprout sandwich with a side of broccoli slaw that starts out inside the sandwich.
If you are very very careful, you still can't prevent the entire brussels sprout from ejecting itself from the sandwich and into your mouth the instant you bite, and now you your job is trying to make it through this enormous brussels sprout before you can take another bite of the parts of the food that taste good. My jaw hurts. Possibly I should have roasted the brussels sprouts for longer, but shoving gigantic brussels sprouts into a sandwich was a mistake from the start.
utter foolishness. 2/5
Also unless I'm missing something, both of the above recipes straight up lied about including garlic among the provided ingredients. Luckily I had garlic on hand, but that could have been very annoying.
------
[note from the present: there was a third meal in that kit that I intended to do a silly little review for too but then I never got around to making it. ty to Fen for sending me the free mealkit tho, I was eating really badly around that time and it was really good to eat some stuff that was actually good & nutritious]

i was nearly going to make a whole video essay about this but i couldn't think of how to articulate this properly but does anyone else find it weird when youtubers peddle sponsorships that are like. frozen food. or even mealkits. or that stupid fucking water bottle with scent flavors. just the most useless shit. you can buy groceries and cook, you can just drink water. why are they doing this. they have patreons that give them thousands of dollars a month and they're still taking shitty sponsors like this to pay their $4000 LA apartment rent and buy $1000 microphones for their boring podcast. youtubers are the most unserious people on the planet

cbeen thinking about mealkit services (hello fresh etc). to be un-nuanced for a moment. interesting how when a private company sends out pre-sorted ingredients and recipes, it’s innovation. if the government were to do that it would be rations and orwell-esque or something.
i do like the idea of a government mealprep program to lessen waste. obviously not for most current governments but you know.
i can dream
