Well since my life and my engagement is falling apart I thought I would share some more Paul, because honestly listening back to the 1-2-1s are the only thing that is keeping me sane at the moment. Also sorry for the whine but the only social media outlet I have without anyone from my immediate circle knowing me is tumblr 😥

I haven’t done one of these in a long while so  here we go.

This is primarily a Doctor Who blog.  I also blog about science fiction, fashion, art, writing and geek stuff.  This is my fun place.   This is an adult blog and contains adult topics, cursing, whinging and fic that contains NSFW stuff.

That’s a good sampling.  I try and tag all pairings so people can filter. I post links to my fic to AO3 where you can read it.  

I try and keep this a friendly and happy place which means rarely do you find politics here and if there are, they are tagged politics.  I block that tag myself.  I reblog a lot of DW fic and a smattering of other fandom fics.  Dimension hopping Rose stuff is posted 10am EST every day.  Sundays are Ecclesundays.  Tuesdays are Tennant Tuesdays.

Spoilery stuff I try and post under a cut as well as tag it.  

This is also a Versailles, Torchwood, B5, Star Wars and Star Trek friendly blog.  I do blog multi eras of DW (Classic and New Who) but primarily RTD era.  

During award season I spam lots of fashion.  I usually put up a warning post. I also spam for Christmas, Valentines and Halloween.

I hope this helps people find what they want and filter what the don’t.  Thanks for following me!

I feel invited to share a thought about Withnail and I. I think it's unfair that REG gets all the credits for acting, and Paul gets all the credit for looks, when... They also have potent qualities in the opposite area? Like, REG is a mighty handsome man, even if Withnail needs a good scrubbing. and Paul's acting is so, so good and asfjhsffjsh. sorry for withnail spam.

First of all: Never apologize for Withnail and I spam! I could talk about W&I for hours.

Anyway. 

One reason why this is such a good film is because everything fits together. Everything compliments everything else, acting performances included. 

The way Richard looks in the film works for the character. He looks like some sort of a delusional vampire who didn’t get the memo that the old days are over. Being all polished and dashing wouldn’t work; not with his lifestyle.

That being said, Richard makes Withnail look so much better in many ways. He is very charming in the role. I mean, obviously he is. But only after reading the script I realized just how charming he was. Script Withnail is just horrible. Richard makes him into something else. 

And idk, I know this doesn’t sound like it’s about the looks, but that plays into it, too. I mean, a role is a role, not a real life. He cleans up nicely, as they say. I know he has many fans who adore him. (I mean, yes, I also know Richard talked about how unflattering he looks in the film, but it’s really not that bad. It’s more that McGann gets all the leading lady visual treatment.)

Now, McGann is good as Marwood. It’s just the type of a role that doesn’t get attention. But let me tell you: for a self-insert character whose main things are “good looks and anxiety”, he is great. He really sells the naivety and paranoia. More than that: he is a perfect foil for Withnail. In many ways, it is a two man act. Now, I don’t know Paul in many roles, but isn’t he known for restrained presence? He has a very calming thing around him (I guess his voice contributes to it a lot). This is completely different to Marwood. So yeah, I do think it was a good performance, but the type of character is simply not the one that attracts attention.

PS- I loved the line “they have potent qualities in the opposite area”.
