Gah. I need a new muse.  Why????? *shakes fist* 

well we’re only about 3k into this idea since late afternoon. 

Tagging whoever wants to play along.  I’m also very open to any suggestions for a title. 

Title: Untitled H50 McDanno Fixit Fic

Fandom: Hawaii 5-0

Pairing: McDanno, past Danny/Melissa, Steve/Cathrine, Danny/Rachel

Other tags/warnings: First draft. This idea has bitten me hard and I have yet to dislodge the muse. Might need rabies shot after this. Fix-it fic for end of season 5 of H50. Will have canon mentions of paternity issues with Charlie. 

Having to keep his hands to himself was torture the entire drive home, the stitched leather of the steering wheel pressing into his skin as a reminder to not move his hands from their positions at ten and two o’clock respectively.  Grace was out like a light in the backseat, dwarfed by Danny’s suit jacket that was getting rumpled.  Danny had the window down, shirtsleeves pushed up to show enough skin that made Steve want to swallow his tongue. 

He’d never found wrists so scandalous before but he wanted to wrap his fingers around Danny’s and pin him in place so he could do unspeakable things to him but he wouldn’t because Grace was in the back seat. 

Danny said nothing when he took the turn towards his own house instead of towards Danny’s condo. He’d just reached over and placed his hand on Steve’s knee, the touch burning hot despite the layer of cloth between their skin.  Each little squeeze of Danny’s fingers as they stroked the inner thigh just above the knee seemed directly wired to Steve’s groin, his cock twitching within it’s confines. 

They were really doing this.  Danny was going home with him—with Grace. 

Steve really wasn’t sure what the rules of engagement here were but he was willing to follow Danny’s lead.  

Parking in his usual spot, he trailed after Danny who had picked Grace up like she was nothing despite the fact that she was getting too old to be easily carried. Grace simply curled into her father, never waking and instinctively trusting her Danno. 

Climbing the two steps of his front porch, he fumbled slightly unlocking the door and allowing Danny to go first before locking the door behind them.  Danny had gone straight up the stairs to Mary’s room.  Grace had stayed there before and she’d be comfortable there. 

It was also the room furthest from Steve’s own.  

Left alone for the moment, he retreated to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water but he make himself drink it. 

He should.  He’d drunk enough champagne earlier that he was slightly dehydrated but all he could think of was that Danny was upstairs putting Grace to bed. 

Danny would be back down the stairs any moment and then Steve would need to figure out what to do. 

Danny had kissed him. 

There’d been that moment—that implication that he wasn’t just going to crash on Steve’s couch for the night—but Steve did not want to overstep here. 

He could be misreading Danny’s intentions. 

God he hoped he wasn’t.

The only warning he had of Danny’s presence was the touch at his hip before Danny pressed himself against Steve’s back, taking the glass from him and drinking from it. 

“Hey,” Steve tried to protest but it came out a little to breathy. 

Danny smiled around the rim of the glass, eyes glinting with mischief. 

“… I was drinking that.”  Steve’s mouth was drier than the Afghan desert. 

“Were you?” Danny arched one eyebrow tauntingly, tipping the almost empty glass away in a salute. 

Steve liberated the glass, throwing back the remaining water in a single swallow. His eyes never left Danny’s the entire time, trying to not flinch first in this game they were now seemingly playing.

When You Are Salty Some Cracky Fix-It is What the Doctor Ordered (pg, no warnings except for fluff and bitterness towards certain showrunners)

Danny woke up with a start, every cell in his body propelling him out of that dreadful dream. Strong and steady arms on his shoulders anchored him to reality.

- Danny, Danny! It's alright. It was just a dream, albeit a bad one from the looks of you.

Danny was still shaking.

- It was horrible! I was hurt! And you! You left me, you jerk!

He weakly punches Steve in the arm, not enough to hurt, just enough to make a point.

- Are you seriously mad at me for something I did...in your dream?

- Maybe?

- It would help me defend myself if I knew what I was accused of...

Danny signs and recalls all the chilling details of his nightmare to his husband, who has the good sense to look properly horrified.

- This is the last time I let you eat junkfood before bed, that's the only explanation for this nonsense. Me? Eloping from the island with Catherine? Like Kono did to Adam three years ago? Our lives are not some soap opera written by heterosexist writers.

- You have a point, I just .... - Danny breathes out, - it's hard to shake something that felt so real and so awful. I was so alone.

Steve takes both of Danny's hands in his and kisses his knuckles reverently.

- Sunshine, you know I would never leave you, right? Wild horses couldn't drag me away. The only way I'm leaving Hawai'i is with you by my side.

Danny smiles as he wipes at a stray tear that's escaped.

- I trust you, and I'm so glad this is the reality we live in, I would hate to be in a universe where we were forced to waste so much time.

Steve pulls Danny close, their foreheads touching, hearts and thoughts synchronizing in a perfect rhythm.

- I will come back to you in any universe, even if I had to cross dimensions. After I personally kick the ass of the hack of a writer that came up with such a bullshit ending. Deal?

- Deal.

They seal it with a lingering kiss before settling comfortably into well deserved rest. Celebrating their 5th marriage anniversary was a tiresome affair, after all. Exhausted but feeling blessed they drift away knowing in their reality they didn't waste a moment. Going with the gay thing from the start was the best decision of their lives.

Danny’s arm slips over the back of the chair next to his. Steve hasn’t returned yet, but that doesn’t mean Danny can’t invade his space. “So that’s the terrible stuff he’s been telling you behind my back, huh? That I have interesting opinions and my kids are brilliant?”

2. No more guessing who (Looking back now, it was always you)

“Yeah.” Danny rubs his leg. “But it’s not finished.”

It looks pretty finished to Steve. “What’s missing?”

“How are you doing?”

Danny, lounging in one of the Adirondack chairs on the lawn like a lizard on a rock, lowers his sunglasses down his nose. “In what sense?”

“What brings you to the Aloha State?” Danny asks. He seems to be done with his phone, stowing it away somewhere in the bag between his feet. “I bet it isn’t the pizza.”

Hutch turns to look at Starsky, so Starsky gets first right of answer. “Holiday,” he offers.

“Research and work,” Starsky reminds him, wryly.

5. Across the water, across the deep blue ocean (Under the open sky, oh my) 

Danny taps Steve’s chest, for reasons that are so unclear they might as well not exist. There are no cards there, so perhaps he’s just showing off the fact that his ring does, in fact, match Steve’s. “What did you think was happening when I moved from the couch to Steve’s bed?”

6. Big picture feelings

He’s quiet and frowning for a moment that seems eternal, because this is where he’d need to give some kind of impassioned denial if it isn’t true or she’s misunderstood or he at least still wants to continue what they’ve been doing. She’s rooting for him to come up with something good. “I’m sorry,” he says instead.

7. I’m dumb she’s a lesbian (I thought I had found the one)

Danny seems speechless for a second. His coffee hand finally stills. “Right,” he decides then. “Okay. I can see how that might be a problem.” He gives Steve an askance look, which doesn’t feel entirely fair, because he hasn’t even done anything.

8. Hit it, man

“I have to admit to some curiosity,” he says, and Danny thinks shit and has to keep his hand still to not go for the fake glasses again or the real gun strapped to his ankle. High class hitmen aren’t twitchy. Dr. Vos continues, “Neither of you took the other’s last name?”

9. Out of the rain, into the frying pan

“No,” Eric says. “I’d rather be a coward and live, if it’s all the same to you.”

“Good choice,” Danny says. Positive reinforcement, and all that jazz. “Never been more proud.”

They settle back into the Camaro quietly, a heavy burden hanging over their heads. “She asked us to be gay,” Danny recaps, still with a buzzing in his ears that's slowly getting to his head. “For tourism.”

I've mostly written for 9-1-1, though I started off with Shameless (6 fics) and I have written some for Teen Wolf (5 fics). There's one 9-1-1 crossover with Schitt's Creek.

Do you respond to comments?

Always, even if it takes me months. I actually just caught up again (there's still a bunch to go, but right now the oldest is 17 days ago instead of 250 days...). It's just a rule I have for myself, and even with the backlog I've kept it up so far, so I'm not going to stop doing it now.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I'm not a big fan of angsty endings, I generally try to at least make it a hopeful ending or, in the case of the college au, use an epilogue to fix things.

But I guess sunny skies & summer highs qualifies as an angsty ending simply because of the cliffhanger (and yes, there is still going to be a continuation, I'm working on it 🙈).

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Choosing one out of 160 is really hard, but I think tell me, will you stay or will you run away is definitely one that deserves a mention here, because it already has a happy ending and then the epilogue just makes it even better 🥰

Do you get hate on fics?

Not commented on the fic itself, no. I've had some people talk shit about my fics on twitter, though, and not even vaguely but calling me by (user)name.

Do you write smut?

Is grass green? Yeah, I write smut 🤭 Thanks to two times kinktober, I have 95 explicit fics, by far the most used rating for my fics.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

My head over feet Buddie valentine's two-parter got posted as one chapter in Wattpad work with over 30 fics once. Filed a DMCA and Wattpad took it down within two hours.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Two of my fics have been translated into Russian afaik, one on ao3 and one on Ficbook

Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

Nope. It may be a nice challenge for the future? Not sure who I'd do it with.

All time favourite ship?

Gotta go for Buddie on that one, lol. Especially if you look at my writing history. But I often tend to hyperfixate on one ship at a time (current reading obsession is McDanno)

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Buck's POV of if love is art then you might be my masterpiece. I really want to, but at this point it's been two years since the original so I don't know if it'd be worth it either. (I know not everyone was happy about how I ended it, but I doubt any of them are still waiting for more). Writing a different POV of the same fic takes an amount of planning that my brain just really struggles with. And I could pick up where the last chapter (before the epilogue) picks up, but I think that way there would be some crucial information about Buck missing.

What are your writing strengths?

I've been told quite a lot of times that I am good at keeping characters, well, in character, even when putting them in partial or complete AU's. Of course, what is in character or not is subjective, but I do always challenge myself to work as much of the canon backstory and personality into who they are in the AU as possible.

And I like to think I'm pretty good at writing smut.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm terrible at pacing, which multiple of my long fics prove. It'll be drawn out first and then suddenly rushing. And being ESL I do struggle with things like sentence structure and grammar pretty regularly still.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

As long as there is some kind of translation provided somewhere I like it, but I'm not so quick to use it myself. Not beyond a few Spanish words here and there (generally pet names between Eddie and his family we've seen on the show or the occasional curse word when I feel it fits better than an English one, but I usually need to employ help from Spanish-speaking friends for those).

First fandom you wrote in?

Shameless! I binged that right before I started 9-1-1 and combined with the creative writing minor I was doing, it was actually what got me back into writing in general and what made me write my first ever fic.

Favorite fic you've written?

My in your arms i feel safe-series (which I always lovingly refer to as the ace kink fic) is definitely one of my favorites simply because of how personal it is to me and for the reason behind me writing it in the first place.

Other strong contenders are i would've loved you forever (it's never enough but i wanted it to be) and i'm begging you, come home to me (Teen Wolf, Thiam)

Thank you, babe @stephmcx because of your great fic rec list I noticed this amazing Fic Rec Day! I'm not often on Tumblr anymore scrolling and discovering interesting things and I miss the interaction with other fandom folks. And here you are, posting a great fic rec list of the most epic OTP ever: Steve and Danny.

I have my McDanno 'go-to' fics I love dearly but for this list I put together a different number of McDanno stories from my bookmarks. I hope some of you haven't read them already. Maybe there's a chance you find an unknown great McDanno story. All of my recommanded stories always act like a large safety net of love I let myself fall into when I need those special, unique, and most magic McDanno vibes.

So I thought about how to best answer this one because you are right, chances are Danny had a new dream/vision. And yeah, the way they played it out and Danny fully realising that Steve will come for him and him hearing Steve's frantic shouts would've influenced him while going under.

Now I really want to write it. But brainstorming and soundboarding first because I wrote a few "fix it" stories already and this would def be a fix it 😁

What fandoms do you write for?

At the moment, it's still mostly H50 and some Ted Lasso.

Generally, the fandoms that make me want to write for them are the ones where I feel that there's still much left untold by canon. Be it character backstories that are just hinted at or be it the chemistry between two characters that makes me ship them, when I can't stop thinking about them it's usually me starting to write stories about them in my mind already.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

A Beautiful Thing (H50)

Oi! Tartt! Boot Room now! (Ted Lasso)

A Sense of Belonging (H50)

A hui hou nō (H50)

Together (we make a family) (H50)

Funnily enough, the first two fics are basically the same premise, just different fandoms: an outsider POV catching a private moment between the main characters and watching a kiss that wasn't meant for their eyes.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Not as consistently as I want. Sometimes it's the bare lack of time, often times it's that I don't know what to say even though getting a new comment makes me ridiculously happy. Please know I love and appreciate every single comment I have ever received on my works!

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I'm a sucker for happy endings and I hate unresolved endings so I usually don't write them. I tend to end my stories on a hopeful note at the very least so I'm not sure it qualifies as an angsty ending, but Runaway is closest I think. It's one of the rare cases where I wrote the ending in between and before the middle part of the story.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I say it's my H50 finale fix-it, A hui hou nō.

Do you get hate on fics?

Thankfully not.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Occasionally. I try to make it not just porn but include the emotions as well; I aim to capture the intimacy of the moment.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Nope. Not my thing.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes. Here We Go Again was translated into Russian for Fandom Kombat last year: Ну вот, опять

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nothing that's officially published. But bouncing ideas back and forth in the comments or via dm is lots of fun and has added up to fic length regularly (especially with Katya; we haven't done that in a long while, @teruel-a-witch!).

What's your all-time favorite ship?

I think McDanno has ruined me for all other ships.

What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I have a WIP that's a few years old where Danny and Steve help with the Spring Cleaning at Charlie's kindergarten. They are mistaken as a couple by the teachers and the other parents alike, no thanks to Charlie calling them both "Dad". It's one of the fics where I have written the first part (and I like how it turned out) and then I just stopped without leaving a clue for myself how it's supposed to resolve. I know I once had an idea for it, but no matter how many times I open the document I can't remember what it was.

What are your writing strengths?

I think I can write short stories well that are precise and that can pack a punch. I'm told I write emotions well but I'm not always sure I agree. :)

What are your writing weaknesses?

I often find it hard to write dialogue. It has gotten easier over the years but I still find it hard, especially since I'm not a native English speaker.

Also, generally, writing in a foreign language can be challenging. There are some cultural things (informal speech, behaviors, acronyms, insults, unwritten rules etc.) that are hard to research. I'd love to write more about Steve's military background for example, but I don't think I know enough about life in the US military to do that in a believable way.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Not a big fan. I mean, if it's subtle or if, for example a character uses one or a few words from their native language regularly, that can be meaningful and add to their characterization. But if it's whole sentences or dialogues in another language it tends to pull me out of the reading flow.

What I have really come to hate is written dialects. There are some Ted Lasso fics I refuse to read because they tried to write down Jamie's Mancunian accent. As funny as it is hearing it on the show, it's just annoying to read.

First fandom you wrote for?

Uh, Harry Potter maybe? Or RPF for the German band Die Ärzte? I did write some original stuff. The first fic I published was definitely Football RPF.

Favorite fic you've ever written?

I can't really chose a favorite one. There are many stories I feel proud of and there are others that mean a lot on a personal level. I'm gonna pick Me Ke Aloha pretty much at random and I might chose a different fic if you ask me again tomorrow. :)

Most of the time. There have been sporadic tines when I haven't but I try to be consistent. It can be a little harder to respond to comments on older fic, but I read and appreciate every one .

Hmm. All my fc have happy endings. I feel like that's the big payoff. There are a few that end on happy notes after a ton of angst.

The Hoku was a very dark post apocalyptic fic. H50/McDanno

bro·ken Buddie/ 9-1-1 ends on healing, happy note, but it was a pretty big angst fest.

I have no idea :-P

I used to get some pretty serious unwarranted critique in other fandoms, but not the current one.

I do. Not a ton, but if the story calls for it, I follow the Muse.

A Daredevil, The Punisher, Jessica Jones crossover with The Predator.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I don’t have any WIPs except the current one. I have an idea that I have outlined and have talked about in the past. My epic Sci-Fi of doom. But the Mafia AU which took me a long time to write and I don't have the motivation to write anything that will take me months again.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Immersing the reader in the scene. Writing detail in a concise matter. Research. Action scenes. Gritter topics that don’t get glossed over.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I have a mild form of dyslexia which means I write weird sentence structure and a ton of homophones that my amazing beta fixes :)

It also takes me a long time to write, but I'm also in my 40's and I'm don't have a lot of writing time. Which is also the reason it takes me a while to read longer stories.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Very, very sparingly and if only, it makes an impact in the scene.

Mana’olana, Chapter 5

Knocking another chapter off my to-do list for April. It’s not looking like I’ll get the only other task done since i have work-related social plans this evening but never say never….

Fic summary:

Mana’olana: to hope, to have faith. 

Finding out he’s Charlie’s father sets in motion a series of changes for Danny. Some for the better, some not. But once the first domino falls it sets off a cascade and it’s not only Danny and Charlie that are effected. As the extended ohana gathers for Kono’s and Adam’s wedding, Danny finds that maybe not everything is lost.

Chapter summary: Danny has a rough night and then the team catches a case right before Kono’s big day.

I took 3 melatonin last night and fell asleep reading McDanno and watching Magic Mike XXL and so as I was falling o was thinking about a recent gay romcom…it’s either called Bros or Bromance I think????

But anyway, Danny befriends a young hot gay guy who looks like the poster child of what Abrocombi and finch(I was never thin enough or rich enough to shop there so idk how to spell it) would look like but he’s a total sweet heart! And his gaydar is very spot on! Plus after a single day he knows this is a friendship that’s worth it. He helps Danny return to being true to himself. He’s known he’s not straight for a long time but after he married Rachel a lot of the less understanding people in his life thought he “finally chose a side” or “god it out of his system” and that took a toll for the whole time he was married. Dating after that was hard bc the divorce left him angry and bitter and he wanted to focus on being the dad Grace deserved.

And also the man he wanted he wasn’t sure he could get. Steve was everything he could hope for but nothing ever happened…No matter how much he made it obvious. And any time he wanted to be bold himself something happened. And he wasn’t immune to being human and wanting to fix Grace’s family for her sake but that’s really why he even looked at Rachel that kind of way when her marriage to Stan seem to weaken…

It’s an accumulated to having to be content with the strong family he’s built on the island bc of Steve…that’d have to be good enough.

That’s the story he tells the group of hot young gay guys as he’s dragged out to a gay club on one of his free nights. He also protects the group from both a creeper in the club and a homophobe in the streets.

In thanks they buy him drinks and listen to him go on and on and on about Steve.

Of course they begin to plot. But after Danny’s tired they all go back to his place and they put in Top Gun and make points of how gay the navy is (I’ve yet to watch either top gun movie but I’ve been lead believe it is v gay)

But anyway, in romcom fashion (and I’m not one for romcoms…The situations to make it work carry a lot of embarrassment and it gives me second hand embarrassment and I just can’t, but fic is different) Steve arrives at Danny’s…unannounced, with a key, to find Danny sleeping nestled between a lot of hot, young, ripped guys who are in different states of dress and are all very comfortable.

That’s all I got for now. I’ve been chasing inspiration all month and it’s been trying…so I’m glad of any ideas.

He does the only thing he think of in the moment and kisses Danny. Puts every last bit of emotion from the last 10 years into the kiss that may very well blow up in his face but if it’s the only way to get Danny to quit ranting then it’s perfect.

Jack Dalton wasn’t known for his patience and being back in Texas was great and all but he missed his found family.

Glancing up at Danny standing at the stove taking out his birthday brownies, Wheeler feels a little warm and fuzzy and really blessed that he’s gotten so stupidly lucky to be in love with this beautiful sassy man. “Thank you baby boy and now that the brownies are out of the oven how about you come over here and let the birthday boy have his special kiss.”

9. Maybe Second Chances (Seth Rollins x reader)

He looks angry but then again when doesn’t Rollins look pissed at the world? The answer is never and I really shouldn’t be laughing since I know it’s only liable to piss him off more. But I live to rile Sethie up and he knows it and still falls for it every single time.

10. Breakfast in bed and maybe a little more (like forever) (Zowens)

“Whip cream? Oooohhh you wanna play huh babe,” Kevin teases from behind him and it takes everything in Sami not to laugh.

“It’s not for that but I’m definitely willing to add that to our plans for later if you’re game,” Sami answers putting the finishing touches on their plates of french toast and fresh fruit.
