Day 25: The Great Fairy Tera, and Princess Zelda
Dawn comes too soon to Woodland Stable, after my late night yesterday.
I speak to the few people at the stable. Molo is wondering whether to take the new road to Goron City or the dangerous old road from Foothill Stable. He'll sleep on it - so I won't wait for him. Maypin is ready to head out with their wagon. But I do want to deal with the Great Fairy before I head towards the City. Ashe says to watch out for Gorons with strange rocks. The younger Gorons have stopped work and started playing tricks instead. I guess I'll watch out for that?
Kish wants a photo of a Goron in the hot springs north of Goron City for the stable wall. Noted.
Right, time to get on. I hitch Pumpkin to the musical troupe's cart to pull them up to the Great Fairy so that the violinist, Violynne, can play for her.
Tumblr media
Tera emerges at the sound of Violynne's beautiful music.
Tumblr media
Tera says the world isn't as Princess Zelda described to her - she warned her of Gloom and said the world would soon be lost to monsters. I mean… it's a little pessimistic. It's unlike her. But then Tera admits she couldn't see the figure's face. Maybe it wasn't Zelda after all.
Tumblr media
Penn puts it together clearer than I'd like. Looks like Princess Zelda, but isn't Princess Zelda. Is that possible? Is Zelda here at all? Has anyone seen the real Princess, or am I chasing a ghost? A horse-scaring, doom-warning, cold-faced ghost…
I don't know what to do with that. Penn is still speaking. He pays me and leaves.
Violynne and Mastro plan to get the band back together - I knew they were the Stable Trotters! - and coax the other Great Fairies out of hiding. Tera tells me where her three sisters are and I mark them on my map.
It's first thing in the morning but I feel shattered. I glide down the hill in the sudden rainstorm to the shrine. Then back down to the stable, pick up Pumpkin, and charge up the hill towards Death Mountain in the storm.
A rock falls and I remember that Gerudo treasure hunter. I use Zelda's recall ability to ride it back up, curious. It lands at a small sky island. From here, I can see the glowing eyes of a Goron statue roughly where the City should be - but it's not Daruk. No beard. Surely they didn't replace him? This must just be a new one. Would they carve such a thing for Yunobo, after he aided in the defeat of the Calamity Ganon?
I drop back down to Pumpkin. I could probably make it to Goron City faster on my own, but what's the rush? It would be nice to have company.
And if I had just glided off, I would have missed Addison.
I stop to read a sign on the road. YunoboCo hiring! Sounds like Yunobo is doing well for himself, then.
I scramble across to the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower while I'm vaguely nearby, but Sawson says the door is jammed and the top of the tower has come off. I wonder if I can figure this out… Just as I'm wondering if I have enough stamina to climb the tower, a rock falls nearby! That'll do - I ride it up and glide down to the top of the tower. Scan the horizon without the benefit of the launch, then pop down inside to activate it.

I spotted a man pulling a horse-drawn cart, so I spoke to him and Maypin told me about the Horse Goddess that was supposed to be up by East Akkala Stable and made horses stronger. Cool! I then spotted a woman hitting an ore deposit trying to break it. Parcy said she was trying to get to the gems that were inside, she thought I looked like she couldn’t do it and challenged me. She said that if I could break open the ore deposit in one hit, the gems inside were mine. Side Quest – One-Hit Wonder! Seems simple enough.

Yes, I bet a donkey would have just as much trouble as a horse would in those desert sands. Horses just don’t do those kinds of things, like sand and fiery hot places

Sick
(this is kind of a silly Breath of the Wild oneshot inspired by... well. Anyway it’s rated G with a content warning only for sickness.) "Somebody go and get my pack," Beedle panted, shifting the dead weight across his shoulders. "It's at the bottom of the hill."
Up close and without his signature salesman's smile, Beedle was a lot more intimidating, face roughened by sandstorms and freezing winds, the muscles in his arms and shoulders built up by hauling his wares up and down every road between Gerudo and Akkala. Currently, he was hauling something else: a body. Sesami knew those boots, and the shaggy golden hair, even dangling upside-down, was immediately recognizable.
"Hey," Sesami said. "It's that guy."
"He's my best--" Beedle grunted, shifting again as he headed into the stable, "--customer, and I need to make sure he gets into a real bed. Go back and get my stuff, there's fifty rupees in it for you. I have to stay here."
Sesami glanced down the road, then up at the sky, making a face. "I dunno. It's kind of dark."
"I've got it." Maypin was getting out of his bed, feeling around for his hat. "Bottom of the hill, you said?"
"Yeah. I had to dump it, I can't carry it and him at the same time. Use your bed?"
"Go ahead." Maypin was already out the door, hopping on one foot as he pulled his shoes on.
Sesami had crept forward, craning his neck to see over Beedle's shoulder. "... Is he dead?"
"Not yet. I found him face down in the middle of the road. He's, uh, he's been pretty sick." Beedle's nose wrinkled as he tugged the green hood from around the young man's neck. "Can you go and get a bucket of water and a rag, or is it too dark for that too?"
"Oh. Ugh." Sesami took several steps back. "Yuck. I'll-- I'll go get something to clean him up."
"Wait a minute, wait a *minute,* you're not letting him roll around in that bed with his boots on, are you?" The stablemaster had come around the counter. "Do you know how hard it is to get that red dirt out of the sheets?"
"If you don't like the boots, help me get them off," Beedle said. "And put this... this thing with the eyeball on it somewhere safe. I think it's expensive."
The stablemaster had stopped short a few feet from the bed. "He smells," he said, "like vomit."
"It's mostly on his clothes. Here's his other belt. Now let's get these off-- ah, he's burning up. Where did that idiot go with the water bucket?"
"Is it poison?" The stablemaster drew his hands back uncertainly. "If he's going to make the horses or any of my customers sick..."
"I've got lye soap as soon as Maypin gets back with my things. As long as you wash your hands, you should be fine."
Beedle unlaced the man's shirt partway and then dragged it off, eliciting a weak groan of protest. Sesami came shuffling back in with a sloshing bucket of water and let it thud to the ground beside the bed. Beedle and the stablemaster had gone rather quiet; Sesami looked down at the man laying in the bed and said, "...That's a lot of scars."
"Yeah, well." Beedle cleared his throat. "He runs around with a sword strapped to his back all the time, doesn't he? He's a fighter. Fighters get scars. Give me that rag. And take this," he picked up the man's pouch, which was dripping with some sort of sticky wet substance, "and burn it. We're going to have to wash the rest of the stuff I pulled out of there."
The stablemaster watched Sesami go, then said, "You seem to know what you're doing. Do you know what's wrong with him?"
"It comes from eating raw poultry," Beedle said, using the rag to clean around the young man's mouth and chin. "Something grows on it, little invisible bugs I guess. That's how it was explained to me, anyway. Suddenly you start sweating and shivering and gagging, and usually when you're done puking all over yourself you're too weak to get up. They call it Rito Fever."
"Who eats raw poultry?"
"Nobody, unless they're desperate and they've got nothing to cook on." Beedle looked up. "Here comes Maypin. Go on and get one of those blue lizards out of my pack, and the bottle with the tooth in it. We can have this guy back on his feet in no time, and he can go back to bringing me all kinds of goodies and buying up all my stock."
"I didn't want to bring this up, but..." The stablemaster shifted uncomfortably. "...That bed is forty rupees for the night."
"This kid keeps your roads safe!"
"Well. Okay. Thirty."
