THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL'S MASTER LIST: DRUGSTORE BEAUTY ITEMS

Hey ladies!!

So as you know - I'm a podcast FREAK these days. The latest downloads have been from Tim Ferris, Aubrey Marcus, and Julie Soloman of 'The Influencer Podcast". (Highly recommend that you start listening to at least one of these a day for some daily motivation). 

BUT. The OG podcaster who got me into swapping the radio for podcasts was The Skinny Confidential, Him and Her podcast. If you guys haven't checked out her podcast yet, you NEED to start listening asap. You'll be overwhelmed with the amount of tips that Lauryn and her husband have to offer on everything from business and relationships to health, wellness and fitness. 

And obviously check out her blog, The Skinny Confidential, if you feel like getting into a black hole of completely usable and USEFUL health, beauty and wellness tips. 

One of the last podcasts that Lauryn did was a MASSIVE breakdown of her FAVORITE make up, skin care, food, business, and productivity products and let me tell youuu, you're going to want to listen to it like 4 times haha. 

As I was listening to it I wanted to pause it like every 20 seconds so that I could go purchase whatever she was talking about on amazon...and then realized that I haven't been working enough to afford everything lol (and I work a lot......eye roll..)

SO. What I decided to do was go back and listen to it for a second time and pull out all of the products that she mentioned were available to buy at your local DRUGSTORE. There were actually A LOT of products on there that were cheap that you could purchase on amazon but I wanted to keep this post specific to the beauty items that she suggests getting from the drugstore.

This way you can go in and get allll the things, in one spot. 

Okay - let's get into it. (Look for each product the next time you're at a drugstore or simply click on each picture to purchase online!)

1. FAKE LASHES - ARDELLE WHISPIES #113

Lauryn suggests obvi working with these to see if they fit your eye shape. She says curl, apply primer, apply mascara, apply lashes, and then apply mascara again. (I think). Clearly I need to step up my game since I'm a curl and apply kinda girl but hey, I'll get there. 

2. MASCARA PRIMER - LOREAL WHITE PRIMER

Apply this before your mascara to really get the most out of your lashes. You'll kinda look like a bug at first with white eyelashes haha but once that black mascara slips on your going to be looking gawwwwgeous. 

3. MASCARA - LOREAL BLACKEST BLACK CURVED BRUSH

Okay - YES YES YES. I have personally been using Loreal's Voluminous Mascara ever since I was even allowed to wear mascara. Instagram always made me feel like I should be trying Chanel or Dior Mascara but let's be real, I've tried those mascara's before because my friends would end up buying them, and they are seriously NO BUENO compared to this. 

This mascara NEEDS to be your go to. You can find it basically anywhere, it's a great price and it works SO WELL. And I totally agree with Lauryn that you should get the curved brush as opposed to the straight one but do what you like. 

4. MAYBELLINE GREAT LASH CLEAR MASCARA

PLOT TWIST - she suggests using this for your brows! This is funny because when I was like 10 and wanted to start wearing make up, this was the only thing that my mom would let me wear.... But anyways ! Use this on your brows to BRUSH UP! I get like straight anxiety when I wake up in the morning and find all my eyebrow hairs brushed down sooo don't let that happen to you in the middle of the day. 

Get this, do your brows, then brush them UP to keep them lookin fierce. 

5. BABYLIPS COVERGIRL (BLUE OR PINK TUBE)

I've never used this personally, but she says it's fantastic and now I'm probably going to get it next time I spot it haha. Great for a nude, plump look. 

6. BURTS BEES GRAPEFRUIT FLAVOR

Simply because it gives you the perfect red tint, and tastes BOMB. 

7. DRY BRUSH 

So I actually did a post on this like over a year ago because I also LOOOVE dry brushing. It's such a great way to detox and it helps to drain your lymphatic system...it can also help with cellulite which I tell you in this post, I used to have plenty of...

8. BLACK HEAD REMOVER 

Okay so i've never used one of these personally but I was stoked to hear in the SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL'S MASTER LIST that you can get one at a drugstore and that she's down with it! (Make sure you rinse it after each use to avoid keeping nasty bacteria on there). This one is called DAY LOGIC SKIN CARE TOOL.

Hii my beauties 💋  !!

The most awaited beauty event of Maputo and Mozambique happened this past weekend, where it gathered all Mozambican beauty junkies, national and international makeup artists, beauty related services providers and a lots more.

I was honored to be invited by the lovely Candice (The Makeup Company) to be a part of this epicness. I, myself, got to chat with so many creators, exhibitors and people that love my work, so it was definitely an especial and unique experience for me.

And here is a little video that I created, with bits of the event that I captured.

Now let me explain in details what presentations and exhibitions took place, this was a two day even with the following SCHEDULE:

Day 1 27.September.2019, 14h-19h

Day 2 29.September.2019, 09h-18h

·         Introductory words by the infamous Mozambique Stylist, Taibo Bacar;

·         Masterclass by The Makeup Company (Candice);

·         Drag Performance;

·         Exhibitions viewing.

  ·         DMK Skincare Presentation by Innova Skincare;

·         Beauty Blogger Presentation;

·         Drag makeup tutorial;

·         Dr. Matheo presentation;

·         Kohl Makeup Academy presentation;

·         Local Makeup Artists Competition;

·         Prosthetic Makeup demonstration;

·         Mish Lee Presentation.

  With every Trade Show, this one also had GOODIE BAGS, and we got them on the first day, the day of the Masterclass, it had:

A Lip Gloss by Inglot;

A Blush by Boticário;

And lots of Coupons for every single exhibitor that was present there (WHICH IS SO COOL! I CANNOT WAIT TO TRY OUT ALL THOSE SERVICES).

  I have to acknowledge what The Makeup Company (TMC) did here, this was a major thing to pull off, and I applaud her for that, gathering all beauty community was definitely not an easy task, believe me, and it was an EXPERIENCE that the ones who participated know how special and important it was, just like Taibo Bacar said ‘we will be honored  to say that we were in the 1st ever TMC Trade Show’, it was a monumental moment in the Mozambican beauty community, for sure.

Now, because it was the first event of this nature, I will not talk about numbers, it was the first one so it was expected that people would be skeptical and would want to sit it out just to understand what it is about.

    With this event she managed to bring international makeup artists, brands, influencers and even drag queens (which I am kinda obsessed with), I learned a lot from each and every one of them, and I think that everyone that was present at this event also did.

Overall I would say that this was a very important and necessary event for the Mozambican beauty community, and this is not a bias review, I just want to show the bigger picture and help everyone understand how important this event was and is to pave its path for the beauty community in Mozambique.

I absolutely loved this Trade Show and with this post I would like to thank Candice in behalf of the beauty community for making this happen for us, and I cannot wait for the second edition!

My Top 5 Easy Makeup/Skincare Picks for an Everyday Routine (+1 Miss!) 

1) Mario Badescu Facial Spray W/ Aloe Cucumber and Green Tea $7 for 4oz @ Ulta

So I bought this product not much more than a week ago and I have already used quite a bit of it up! Which I rarely go through products this quickly, so you know it’s a good one! It has an extremely refreshing mist, which’s scent I much prefer to the Rosewater scent (also by Mario Badescu) with me not being as much of a fan of rose scents. It can be used alone, underneath or on top of makeup, though I have been largely using it as a midday (or any time of the day) pick-me-up spray. It is not marketed as a makeup extending spray but it is great to prep skin for a nice boost pre-makeup, and leaves a great finish, and at $7, I think we have a winner!

2) Soap and Glory Archery 2-in-1 Crayon Gel in Taupe $12-14 @ Target and Ulta

You know those days you are in a great rush but you still want to look presentable and put together? This product is great for that. With great ease and convenience, the Archery Brow Crayon Gel has a twist-up thick angular brow pencil on one end that is easy to whip brows up into shape without depositing too much color, and is easily buildable. The gel I’ll admit I don’t use quite as much of, as it can dry very stiff and tacky, but it will do in a pinch. And since I changed my hair from a very dark brown to a balayage blonde the shade in Taupe has been perfect for me. Soap and Glory is once again available at Target and recently now at Ulta, making it more affordable and accessible than ever, so you can save some change and also go get some points!

3) Shiseido Lash Curler $20 @ Sephora and Ulta

As someone who has very straight and short Asian lashes, I know that finding the right lash curler that will hold your curl can be both important and nearly impossible to find. I bought this lash curler from Ulta a few months back when they had one of their 20% off coupons going around and it is one of the best purchases I’ve made. Enough pumps in the right direction and you’ll have curled lashes for the rest of the day, with even the most stubborn lashes.

4. The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2% $9.80+shipping @ theordinary.com

The Ordinary has been getting a ton of hype lately for being an innovative new skincare brand, bringing top-quality skincare ingredients at record low prices. quality skincare ingredients at record low prices. They’ve done this by packaging a few proven ingredients in order to aid skin simply and effectively. Their Advanced Retinoid 2% is an anti-aging Retinol serum (which, for those new to the world of geeky beauty, is one of the only ingredients proven to prevent the signs of aging through regenerative cell turnover. It is recommended to use an SPF while using any products with Retinol due to increased sensitivity.)

5. L’oreal Butterfly Sculpt Waterproof Mascara in  Blackest Black $7.99-8.99 @ Drugstores and Ulta

This mascara is one I grew to like more with time. It gave good definition while still looking natural and gave good length and separation. While it was slightly clumpy it grew better as it dried out. I really grew to appreciate this mascara when I tried the next mascara.

MISS w/ Mini-review of Essence I Love Extreme Volume Waterproof Mascara $4.99 @ Ulta

This mascara gave hardly a moderate amount of volume and was not waterproof in my experience. The oversize wand made application difficult, which smeared largely on the lower and upper lashline during application, and the mascara that translated was more grey-tinged than black. I really had to try to make this mascara work, and found that the formula made my lashes droop and did not hold a curl, unlike other mascaras that claim to have a waterproof formula. If you are looking for something similar I would suggest the Maybelline Full and Soft mascara, which is at a similar price point but has a smaller barrel wand. I have tried that in the past and gives a good effect with full, fluffy lashes.
