🌊The Water-Bending Sun Warrior☀
Zuko X Reader
Part 1
Tumblr media
Prologue
Tumblr media
The first time you entered the spirit world was when the moon died.
Everything was red for a bit and then you felt a deep ache in your heart before falling into darkness. It was strange at first, being awake but your body asleep. Seeing visions of a giant water-like creature commanding the waves.
Upon awakening, you heard your father speaking to the chief of the tribe.
"Please explain, I don't understand what's going on!", he cried.
"Your child is fine. They will wake soon and come back to the physical realm.", the chief replied.
The next few days were odd, you kept leaving your body, traveling to places you've never seen before. Strange spirits were everywhere and you learned to be extra careful.
You've tried to tell your father about your journeys but he refused to listen or believe it. It confused you how he could trust the word of the chief but not yours.
A few months have passed since then.
Sitting near a small stream of water, you moved your hand back and forth, following the flow. The water following your command.
The first time you made the discovery that you were a water-bender was when you were helping the healers in your village.
You didn't tell anyone but the old man who had helped you out of the spirit world when you fainted on the day of the dead moon.
His home was near the healers as he knew more about chakras and spiritual energies, being able to take care of wounds that would normally take longer to heal due to lingering trauma or evil spirits.
"A water-bender, the same as your mother.", the old man, Xbalanque explained. "You flow with the tide and the moon gives you strength."
"Is that why I lost consciousness that day?", you asked.
"Yes.", he nodded. "You are a little more sensitive to such things since you were born during an eclipse. Thankfully your mother heeded my warning and wore red, so it is not as bad as it could have been."
"Is there any way for me to control it? I feel like this won't be the last time.", you say with some concern.
There is a strong feeling in your gut that this "ability" would not cease.
"Ah, so you've felt it.", Xbalanque chuckles. "Yes, it will continue. And I have just the thing.", he says and stands up.
He walks over towards a shelf and begins to move various things, all trinkets that might be for fun or carry some importance. There were a lot of little things, some hung on the walls and some were bigger and had to be placed on the floor. All of them were colorful.
"Here we are!", the old man says and brings back a box as he walks over to you. "This was something I gave to your father and he gave it to your mother.", he explained and opened the box, taking out a necklace.
The ribbon fabric was like fresh red blood, the stone was obsidian with a carving on the surface that had gold in between to make out the image of a flame with a water drop in the middle.
"I gave him this stone and blessed it with protection.", he said and placed the necklace in your hands. "Your father used it to propose to your mother, as her customs from the North were for the person of interest to be presented with a betrothal necklace."
You stared down at the jewelry in your hand in awe.
There aren't many depictions of your mother, you can't really imagine her with anything at home. This gives you a small glimpse though.
Why is it here? You wondered.
"It was hard on your father when she passed. He gave this back to me with a foul tongue, saying it didn't work.", Xbalanque sighed. "But nothing can stand in the way of fate's plans."
Apá...
"You can keep it. I have no use for it and I feel like your mother would have wanted you to take it.", he says. "Obsidian is used to contact ancestors, so you can always have a guide when you travel."
How convenient.
"Thank you.", you smiled and put the necklace on.
Visits to his house became common for you as you had many questions.
Now, looking at your reflection in the water, you still wore the necklace.
You haven't traveled recently but you have paid more visits to Xbalanque's residence, having more questions about the obsidian stone and its properties. His response was for you to meditate with it.
So that's what your plans were for today.
Maybe things will get more interesting after doing so.

Wow, it's been a long while. I was stuck thinking about what to write for this part. This fic will update slowly.

Racist White People love saying "Native Americans are just Asians" to invalidate native peoples' long history in the land before European settlers came. Some cannot comprehend that ethnicity is more than just phenotype and DNA but even if you want to base it off of that alone, there are many tribes who have distinct features and do not look East Asian. Native American shows up as it's own category on DNA tests. Accept that Native American cultures, languages, lifestyles and history are uniquely different from those of East Asians and stop repeating this narrative that we are the same so you can feel better about the genocide of over 90% of the indigenous population.

Xolotl and Quetzalcoatl!
The “Twins” from the Aztec Mythos and two cosmic creatures who play a role in my AU! Specifically Xolotl who became what is now The Axolotl in the AU. After an unfortunate circumstance where he had to take the place of his late brother, his role swapping from a creature of Chaos to a creature of peace and control, can you take a guess who took the Chaos role soon enough after an opening came up?

Of Contracts Between Gods and Men
On the Aeorian Kinsey-Deicide scale I’m a solid 5 (near exclusively god-preserving) which may seem surprising to my many dear associates who want those fundamental truths of existence wrecked. Without digging in any further, let’s do some quick religious history review on the question: Do you owe anything to the gods and do they owe anything to you?
The answer is not as universal as many raised in the nigh inescapable miasma of Christian theology may think! Reciprocal (or even unilateral) responsibility in religion comes and goes across history and geography. The Norse Aesir, for example, created humans but don’t owe them nada and only rarely bothered messing with them. The Greek pantheon are significantly more touchy on the subject of their pride but a person could manage offering no prayers or sacrifices as long as they didn’t promise any prayers or sacrifices. Probably. Compare this to Mayan theology, wherein both gods and humans have significant co-responsibility in maintaining balance; with ritual and sacrifice key to the continued safety of the polity. Divine-mortal relationships can be classified as nondirectional, unidirectional, or bidirectional with various advantages and disadvantages to each model. Gods come in lots of shapes and the demands they make aren’t universal!
A phrase that will often come up in any divinity studies is “covenant”. Originally a translation of the Hebrew berith or Greek diatheke, and also present in Islam, the Bahai’i faith, and possibly historical Phoenician religious practices, covenant theology has metastasized in Christian scholarship to the point it was genuinely hard to research this piece while dodging blogs by guys named Richard. But, broadly, it’s the idea of making an explicit deal with power(s) greater than yourself where you both have sides of the bargain to uphold.
Contract law is not the solution to every problem on earth or in fiction, but when the issue is a large disparity in power and mutual fears of future adverse behavior…. to quote Kate Bush “I’d make a deal with (the) god(s).”
Vitally, compared to other bidirectional pacts in world religion, Exandria has some advantages. For one thing, they have a godeater they’re right now helping to suppress. As long as the gods remain behind the divine gate they need mortal champions to effect their will—but that only holds true as long as the Divine Gate stays up. And unfortunately the problem with a fence someone else has erected is that you don’t know if they’ve kept a key.
If I was mortality’s lawyer? I’d ask for a second layer to that divine hamsterball I’d ask for anything left of the godkilling spark to be kept by the temples of Vasselheim—if they can’t be trusted with it no one can. And I’d promise cooperation from people of a certain degree of civic responsibility, not coerced or threatened out, whole hearted. But terms and conditions may vary.
Anyway, I guess the thesis is that it’s a terrible sin to destroy something you can’t comprehend with no idea of what the outcome will be (and a lot of you don’t seem to get the inconceivable joy of having/knowing/being a god, even just in fiction) but you can bring any monstrosity to the negotiating table. Don’t kill your gods, unionize against them.

*skips in, full of whimsy*
@drsmer and I have been bouncing ideas around for a Spider's Web With Strings Attached reverse AU where Mikey and Raph get trapped in the Nexus instead
I haven't had this much fun since I killed Donnie XD
*skips away cackling*
NO BECAUSE THE WAY IVE HAD THIS SKETCH LYING AROUND ON MY IPAD EVER SINCE YOU DROPPED WHAT BIG MAMA WOULDVE CALLED THEM IF SHE GOT SUNSET DUO INSTEAD
Tumblr media
I SILENTLY WENT THROUGH A WHAT IF MONTHS AGO
Theorizing what would change. What would be similar. Would the villains stay the same? Would there be an equivalent to viper? Who would break first and who would die and why would it be mikey
Potential conflict between the sunset duo in this scenario? Mainly with raph trying to always protect Mikey. And Mikey getting upset that raph is constantly taking hits for him. We got big and little bro dynamic instead of the twins and that would be interesting to see. Rise did address this with raph learning to trust his family BUT I can see this explored further ESPECIALLY with mikey
Unfortunately, you'd have to REAAAAALLLYYYYY find a way to convince me that Donnie and Leo would struggle to find and get them out. No offense to sunset duo, but I think the disaster twins would have a much easier time rescuing them once they knew where they were simply bc of their powers and abilities. Portals are so op. And then Donnie has his tech. Perfect for finding and retrieving. Would the whole maze plan even be needed? Hmm
Oh man and just the disaster twins trying to find them. I never see that??? We never get a raph and Mikey go missing and the two trying to find them are the disaster twins??? Equally as interesting. OHOHOHO these two falling apart and taking it out on each other would be SO MESSY.

I feel like i'd enjoy a book that's written in the style of percy jackson or one of rick riordan's other books, but whose purpose is to be a basic guidebook to all the old mythologies. Because i know it would take forever for rick riordan or anyone else to write books or publish books about every different mythology, but we could at least get a guidebook or something. That would be really fun for me to read. It'd also be the easiest way for me to learn about these old mythologies.
We could cover all the big ones, and probably some of the small ones. The book could cover aztec mythology, celtic mythology, mayan mythology, japanese mythology, polynesian mythology, etc. And maybe we could even get into the more obscure ones like Inuit mythology, Etruscan mythology, Armenian mythology, Yoruba mythology, Hittite mythology, etc. There's so many different mythologies out there, and they need more coverage. How am I supposed to know the gods of france vs the gods of korea? With a book to guide me, i could finally know.

While I think it’s very cool and important to interact with witches with different cultures, I also would love to know some witches that share the same culture as me. Unfortunately I haven’t come across any so far, though I am new on Tumblr. It’s a bit difficult to find some in person where I live, and the few times I do, they’re catholic witches. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s just not what interests me. I’m particularly interested in witches who are more invested in the Mexica and Maya pantheons/mythologies. If any of you are out there, I’d love to check out your blog!
(Also, sorry that this isn’t in Spanish, I’m not fluent and am still learning it. I understand more than I can speak 🤧)
