On this day, Team Sonic Racing saw a worldwide release 5 years ago on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, courtesy of Sega and Sumo Digital (the developers of both Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed).

Features:

A team-based Adventure Mode with 3-player co-op (on the same predetermined team), track-specific challenges, and tutorials

15 playable characters such as: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Chao, Big, Blaze, Silver, Vector, Shadow, Rouge, E-123 Omega, Dr. Eggman, Metal Sonic, and Zavok

i kinda want to know what do you consider new phannies? i’m not really asking for myself i got into them in 2015 so i think i qualify as not new but i personally think of like 2019ish or later as new even though that’s like 4 years now 😭

there's layers of old but i think anyone who got here from 2019 onward will forever be a new phannie to me! i'm forever delighted by the fact that people are still discovering them but you simply have to have experienced the closeted era to truly count as an old timer and there's nothing that can change that!

i do think there's levels of fandom-age, too. like, original phillies who were around before dan & people who were around before the halloween leak of the vday vid in 2012, that's true phandom olds to me. there's a difference between the aftermath/radio show era, when i showed up, & the tatinof era once they'd settled in to the closet, but having been around in any regard at any of those points makes you some level of old timer.

the endpoint/turning point towards coming out was them moving out of the first london apartment & dan rebranding, so like, spring 2017 through the gaming channel hiatus is an era where like? if you showed up then you're not a newbie, you've been around the block, but it also doesn't qualify you as fandom old bc the horrors were mostly over by then.

none of that is coming from a place of pretentiousness or judgement either! just being honest that nobody escaped the trenches of the past unscathed.

DMC5 (the entire franchise actually) is one of my all-time favorite games ever.

Took no damage for the first time on Dante Must Die and I’m proud of myself. You could tell I was on fight or flight mode 😂

Devil May Cry 5 | Friday, 03.08.24

On this day, @official-capcom (Capcom) released the original Devil May Cry 5 video game 5 years ago worldwide on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

And, as of right now, it is currently the best-selling installment in the series at almost 10 million copies sold worldwide.

Watching a friend play through Sonic Frontiers who's never played a Sonic game before and I'm genuinely happy that he, an FPS and action game nut, is really enjoying the game. Yes, it isn't perfect, but it's still a very fun experience. We're riffing to each other about how this game stacks up, and talking about the story beats every so often.

And then we get to That Part on Exposition Island.

So, after you deactivate the final tower on That Island, you get a cutscene where Sonic Fucking Dies. Actually. The music stops. He's Gone. One loading screen later and now he's back by The Power Of Friendship™ and he moves on like nothing ever happened. This is, by far, the biggest disappointment of the game's story, maybe even the game. They could have gone so much harder there. Tails says he's stuck between realities, so a portion of the game/the last island could have been him fighting like hell to break through it. Said friend added they should have made it like the fake-out ending in Control (2019), which Fuck. Yes. they should have. (Play Control (2019), by the way)

Now, I get it, it was most likely Sega saying You Can't Do That, with second likely they didn't have enough dev time to do anything with it. Just seeing other tumblr users brainstorm their own alternative How It Should Have Happened stories makes me yearn for how this could have been handled differently in the game. (getting Infinite flashbacks now are we, Levi?)

Yes, Sonic and Tails are my Autism Creatures, but let me tell you I want to see them go through deep emotional moments as well! It fills my soul. Throw them in the pear wiggler.
