The Sweden-themed days continue with this kick-ass piece of Schweinerock by Free Fall, the new outfit of former Soundtrack of Our Lives gitarrero Mattias Bärjed. On board with him are Kim Fransson, Ludwig Dahlberg (International Noise Conspiracy) and Jan Martens (Jan Martens Frustration). Hell yes, I love rock'n'roll (or should I say röck'n'röll;-)!

Refused Bring Terrific New Music to Brooklyn Steel on Saturday Night
“Influential Swedish hardcore band Refused became one of the most important punk bands of the ’90s, playing punishing music that was as smart and committed as it was muscular,” says AllMusic. “Purposefully rebellious, Refused took their revolutionary political views seriously, and while the clean lines and precision of their performances helped them win an audience much larger than most punk acts of the time, they did so while presenting a thoroughly uncompromised message.” The positive-hardcore band released three highly influential LPs—1994’s This Just Might Be … the Truth (stream it here), 1996’s Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent (stream it here) and 1998’s The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombination in 12 Bursts (stream it here)—before calling it quits after The Shape of Punk’s release.
But as we’ve learned before: It’s hard to keep a good band down, and so what began as rumors turned into a full-fledged reunion in 2012 with original members Dennis Lyxzén (vocals) and David Sandström (drums) alongside Kristofer Steen (guitar), Magnus Flagge (bass) and Mattias Bärjed (guitar). It was unclear what would happen following the tour’s conclusion, but then a fourth studio album, Freedom (stream it here), arrived in 2015. “Freedom marks their first chance to show us if the future turned out like they’d hoped. The album makes a rousing case that yes, Refused are still as relevant in 2015 as they were in the ’90s, and no, they don’t particularly care if you think so or not.” says Consequence of Sound. “All of this is more fun than a politically charged hardcore album has any right to be.”
Refused returned this past autumn with their fifth full-length, War Music (stream it here), which arrived to flat-out rave reviews. “A microcosm of everything brilliant about punk,” offers NME. “The Swedish band’s latest album often sounds like the most fun anyone has had with electric guitars in years. It might be the best thing they’ve ever done.” Their North American tour rolls into NYC for a headlining show at Brooklyn Steel on Saturday night. L.A. EBM duo Youth Code and Chicago metal-hardcore outfit Raicetraitor open.
