Lucasfilm have revealed the cast and crew they're putting forward for Emmy consideration, and it's a long list as the creatives behind the third season of The Mandalorian go for gold. Every episode of the third season gets some kind of nod, including submissions for every big-name member of the Mandalorian family; Pedro Pascal, Katee Sackhoff, Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, Rick Famuyiwa and more. This is certainly a comprehensive list, so plenty for the powers that be to think about.

Democrats' favorite green mode of transportation is causing explosions, death Trendynewsbro
Electric bicycles, which environmentalists and Democratic lawmakers have touted for their zero-carbon output, are facing increased criticism over the rising number of tragic incidents involving their batteries.According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), so-called e-bikes are powered by lithium-ion batteries which are prone to fires or explosions. And as e-bikes continue to become more popular — the global e-bike industry is expected to grow nearly 200% to an estimated value of $118.7 billion by 2030, according to Allied Market Research — more cities nationwide are facing rapidly-increasing numbers of battery fires."The majority of lithium-ion battery fires that fire departments across the country are dealing with involve these micromobility devices," Matthew Paiss, a technical advisor in the Battery Materials & Systems group of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, told the NFPA Journal last year. "With something like an electric vehicle fire, you may be able to let it burn on the side of the road," he added. "With these, though, they may be in homes and high-rises, so fire departments have to engage. It’s a problem we need to address."NEW YORK CITY FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE FIVE-ALARM FIRE STARTED BY E-BIKE BATTERY
Several e-bikes and lithium-ion batteries are seen strewn on the street as New York City firefighters fight a nearby fire. (FDNY)While most cities don't officially track e-bike fire and battery fire-related injury data, New York City officials have recently shared such information as part of a campaign to inform residents about the dangers posed by the devices. In 2022, e-bikes were responsible for an estimated 220 fires, up more than 100% year-over-year, and six deaths, according to the New York Fire Department (FDNY). Already this year, there have been 59 fires, more than three dozen injuries and five deaths in New York City as a result of e-bike battery fires.CHINESE TECH COMPANIES ARE EXPLOITING US GREEN ENERGY GOALS, FORMER STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS WARN"These are incredibly dangerous devices if they are unregulated or used improperly," New York City Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said during a public safety in February. "They show an enormous amount of fire when they catch fire — they often present an immediate inability to exit one's room or one's apartment or one's home.""We're going to come at this from every angle of enforcement, but also want to do community outreach and will be in every community working with every stakeholder," she continued. In the most recent example of a catastrophic fire from an e-bike battery, two children were killed Monday in Queens, New York. FDNY Chief of Department John Hodgens said that, while firefighters arrived to the scene quickly, the violent nature of lithium-ion battery-triggered fires makes it harder to quell.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has made addressing e-bike fires a priority of his administration. (Lev Radin/Pacific Press/LightRocket via Getty Images)In another example, an e-bike fire in a Manhattan high-rise building late last year injured at least 38 people, The New York Times reported at the time. Another fire, in January, was triggered by an e-bike at a New York City daycare center, critically injuring one child and harming two others. As part of the city's efforts to combat the increasing number of incidents, in March, Democratic Mayor Eric Adams signed five bills to regulate the types of lithium-ion batteries sold in the city.TOP NEW YORK REPUBLICAN SCORCHES STATE DEMS' EFFORT TO BAN GAS STOVES: 'AN ATTACK ON WORKING PEOPLE'"Today, we are supercharging safety for all of our e-bikes and e-scooter users," Adams said.Other cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Miami have also seen major fires from e-bike batteries. And the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a letter in December to more than 2,000 e-bike and e-scooter manufacturers and importers, urging them to ensure their products comply with voluntary safety standards, threatening legal action. The federal agency said it had received reports of fires and deaths from the product.
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said last month that e-bikes are a "phenomenal way to traverse our communities." (Drew Angerer/Getty Images)"As you may be aware, in recent years there has been a rise in fires and other thermal events involving micromobility products—including e-scooters, self-balancing scooters (often referred to as hoverboards), e-bicycles, and e-unicycles," CPSC Office of Compliance and Field Operations Director Robert Kaye wrote."I urge you to review your product line immediately and ensure that all micromobility devices that you manufacture, import, distribute, or sell in the United States comply with the relevant UL standards. Failure to do so puts U.S. consumers at risk of serious harm and may result in enforcement action."CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPThe warnings about e-bike safety come as Democratic lawmakers continue to push the product as a key part of their climate agenda and effort to decarbonize the U.S. economy.Last month, Reps. Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif., Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., Mike Thompson, D-Calif., and Adam Schiff, D-Calif., introduced the Electric Bicycle Incentive Kickstart for the Environment Act which would provide Americans with an up to $1,500 credit on e-bike purchases. Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, introduced companion legislation in the Senate."By incentivizing Americans to own and use e-bikes, we are allowing them the chance to help improve the quality of life in our communities and tackle the climate crisis in our country," Panetta said."Electric bikes are a phenomenal way to traverse our communities, combining the beauty of the outdoors with the ease and benefits of sustainable transportation," added Schiff. WAX THEATRICS: S/T
S/T – Wax Theatrics
Release Date: November 5th, 2019
Track Listing:
1. Sound in Colour
2. Flower
3. Secret Lovers
4. Rain
5. Let's Be Happy
6. Just Enjoy
7. Comfortable Girl
8. Little Crow
9. Swell
10. Literature of Love
Vancouver-based rock band, Wax Theatrics, released their self-titled debut album back in 2019 and it’s one to look out for. The band, comprised of Matthew Zacharias (lead vocals, guitar), David Acuna (bass, backing vocals), Alana Thorburn-Watt (piano) and Brian Kavanagh (drums, percussion), have created an album that transcends any other rock albums I’ve listened to recently.
As someone who grew up listening to a mixture of rock and rock ballads, I fell in love with the dynamic, all-encompassing sound of Wax Theatrics. A multi-talented rock band with a backdrop of British Columbia? Sounds like the perfect combination to me.
“Sound in Colour” immediately displays the band’s ability to layer complex sounds to create a unique atmospheric feel. Zacharias’ vocals are smooth and powerful against the intricate instrumental. The lyrics bring an additional level of intrigue to this piece, with lines like “Let me sleep by myself / I swear half the shit I’m going through is caused by everyone else.” With notes emulating the vibrancy and noise of colours (and possibly the world itself), and the yearning to be alone with one’s thoughts, this track is stimulating both mentally and visually.
The third track on the album, “Secret Lovers,” intros with the commanding swelling of piano by Thorburn-Watt, followed by the soft lyrics, “The prettiest colour / can’t compare with your eyes.” Wax Theatrics has produced a mystifying music video to go along with this song, and it does not fail to deliver. Earthy visuals, showcasing the beauty of nature itself, while also including eye-catching images of what looks to be potion making. The repeating harmonic vocals of “In Autumn songs for secret lovers,” adds to the mystical feel of the track.
“Let’s Be Happy” has been accompanied by a sun-kissed West Coast-inspired music video, connecting beautifully with the song itself. There’s a summer-like feel to this track, which alongside the music video, furthers the bright feel of the album. I loved the lines, “So let’s build a bridge where we can meet in the middle / down to the water is where we’ll go.” There’s something warm and loving about the idea of creating something in order to connect with someone (whether that be physically or metaphorically).
I really enjoyed the retro and almost blues-inspired influences woven into “Comfortable Girl.” With Zacharias’ vocals and the instrumental in this piece, I was reminded of some of the work from Jack White of the White Stripes. Something I loved about this piece was that the rock elements still persevere, yet there are clearly so many other influences beyond the genre rock and the typical sound associated with rock. I also loved the chorus lyrics of, “You bring the sound of the ocean, darling, and you bring that sound to life.”
If I could choose one word to describe this album, it would be “dynamic,” because this album is packed full of variety yet doesn’t stray far from the collective sound of the band itself. For a band that originated in Chilliwack over a decade ago, Wax Theatrics have grown to showcase themselves as a force to be reckoned with within the Vancouver rock scene. The band added Oscar Medina to the mix back in March of 2020, which should only strengthen the group’s sound in forthcoming projects.

In a historic move, the US government has today announced its support for waiving patent protections for COVID-19 vaccines, a measure aimed at boosting supplies so that people around the world can get the shots. “The extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic call for extraordinary measures,” said US Trade Representative Katherine Tai in a statement.
The move comes on 5 May, the first of a two-day meeting of the general council of the World Trade Organization, based in Geneva. Until now, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and Japan have blocked efforts, brought by India and South Africa, to make it legal for manufactures to produce generic versions of COVID-19 vaccines.
Former US presidents from both parties have staunchly defended intellectual property rights, so the move has shocked people on both sides of the debate. “This marks a major shift in US policy in a pro-public health way,” says Matthew Kavanagh, a global health researcher at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
Kavanagh is part of the growing chorus of health policy and global health researchers advocating for patent waivers, as the gap between vaccination rates in rich and poor nations grows larger every day. Fewer than 1% of people in low-income countries have received COVID-19 vaccines. The researchers are quick to note, however, that a waiver on patents covering all aspects of COVID-19 vaccines would be just the first step in ramping up vaccine supply.
First step of three
“It’s a 1-2-3,” explains Rachel Cohen, the US director for the non-profit organization Drugs and Neglected Diseases initiative, based in New York City. “First we need to remove patent obstacles, second we need to transfer the knowledge on how to make them, and step three is a massive investment in manufacturing capacity.”
And at the moment step one is far from complete. The World Trade Organization will only negotiate the details of which patents to adjust after all its member countries agree on some sort of waiver. Health policy analysts speculate that other countries will follow in the footsteps of the United States, although the European Union may hold out beyond the end of the second day of the meeting on 6 May. If a consensus is reached, South Africa and India have proposed waivers on patents around vaccines, as well as COVID-19-related medical devices, drugs and diagnostic technologies. So far, Tai’s statement only mentions vaccines.
Drugmakers and others who oppose the measure say that waivers sabotage companies’ enormous investments in drug and vaccine development, which are compensated by their ability to set the price on products that they exclusively own. Normally, patents reward pharmaceutical companies by protecting their inventions from competition from generics for a limited time — US patents on drugs typically last 20 years.
Pharmaceutical industry backlash
Drug companies aren’t the only opponents of the measure. In a 25 April interview at Sky News, global health philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates argued against intellectual property waivers, saying that generic manufacturers couldn’t ramp up production quickly, and vaccine quality could be compromised. A statement released by the industry group, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), after the announcement on the waiver, echoes all of these points, saying: “The Biden Administration has taken an unprecedented step that will undermine our global response to the pandemic and compromise safety.”
Proponents of the waiver disagree, pointing out that generic manufacturers have been supplying the world with high-quality vaccines and medicines for years. And they point out that taxpayers helped foot the bill for the development of several COVID-19 vaccines, and therefore the claim that pharmaceutical companies must recoup all the costs is unfair — especially during a crisis. Several other obstacles must be addressed as well though, such as making sure distribution is equitable.
Cohen says: “These vaccines are an unparalleled triumph for science, but if only 20% or 30% of the world winds up benefiting, what is the point of the innovation?”

BAFTA 2020
Hollywood, a Londra.
