Attorneys for CBS are asking a federal judge in Texas to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Donald Trump accusing the network of engaging in “naked forum-shopping” as part of an effort to have the case heard by a judge that may be more amenable to the president’s claims
The now-$20 billion suit stems from the network’s October 2024, “60 Minutes” interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris. It claims the aired footage was deceptively “doctored” to “tip the scales” in favor of Democrats, which amounted to “unlawful election interference.”
The long-shot complaint was filed in November 2024 in the Northern District of Texas Amarillo Division, where U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk — a Trump appointee known to be particularly receptive to conservative lawsuits — is the lone federal judge. The problem, according attorneys for CBS and its parent company, Paramount Global, is that the court has no jurisdiction because none of the allegations in the complaint have any connection to the Lone Star State.

Overturning Roe vs Wade was clearly never about returning it to the states. It was always a step towards banning abortion entirely. And it's frankly both absurd and infuriating that such vital healthcare can be thrown into chaos for everyone. All because the badly reasoned decisions of this fucking guy [Matthew Kacsmaryk]. It seems like abortion has become a Schrödinger's right in this country. That people simultaneously do and don't have depending on where they live, who's in the white house and what the shittiest judge in America feels like doing. That's why it's so important for it to be protected by law. Ideally in the constitution and for it to be recognized what it is: a basic right, a human necessity and I hear, I got this for a completely reputable website, makes you better at frisbee golf.

At present, there are nearly 100 judicial vacancies for lifetime federal appointments—and President Biden has yet to name a nominee for 60 of those, including two appellate seats. The legislative branch must likewise revisit its obligations to the judiciary.
It’s not enough to confirm nominees to the seats that exist; we need to expand the courts.

Opinion: The 19th century sexual purity law that some want to revive
The Comstock Act, originally passed in 1873, had hardly been enforced in a century when Kacsmaryk’s April 2023 ruling called attention to it. Anti-abortion lawyers, led by Jonathan Mitchell, the former Texas attorney general who helped to create Texas’s abortion bounty bill, SB8, saw untapped potential in the archaic law. These abortion opponents pointed to language in the Comstock Act that made…

Another crooked right wing judge appointed to make ridiculous decisions that are outside of his responsibilities and far too unpopular to pass in a bill.

What's next? Can a devout Christian district judge ban Viagra because it encourages sexual activity not related to reproduction? Can a health-conscious district judge ban weight-loss pills because dieting and exercise are better ways to lose weight? Can a Christian Scientist judge ban all medicines because prayer has demonstrably fewer side effects and would save Medicare billions of dollars per year? What about an antivax judge who bans all vaccines nationwide because somebody somewhere had an allergic reaction to one vaccine once? The list goes on and on. The real danger here is that if this stands, every district judge will think that he or she is the Supreme Court and make national rulings. Once she opened the box, Pandora couldn't get it shut again and we may soon be in for a repeat performance. Or many repeat performances.

Abortion Pill Under Appeal
Abortion Pill in Danger
An abortion pill case has moved to appeals court, one step closer to the Supreme Court. Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, fourteen states have entirely banned abortion from conception to birth and more either have adopted or are debating major restrictions. Mifepristone, the oft-called abortion pill, is a part of medication abortion, the most common method used. Taken before 10 weeks…

As legal fights raise concerns about the future accessibility of the abortion medication mifepristone, reproductive rights supporters on Saturday rallied outside the U.S. Supreme Court and in cities across the country.
The demonstrations came a day after the U.S. Supreme Court temporarily blocked a recent ruling by Texas-based federal Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, an appointee of former President Donald Trump who struck down the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's 2000 approval of mifepristone, one of two drugs often taken in tandem for abortions.
However, the high court's decision last year in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which reversed Roe v. Wade and overturned a half-century of abortion rights, is fueling fears of what the future holds, as Republican-controlled states across the country continue passing legislation to further limit the choices of pregnant people.

Tonight, a judge ruled that a drug that’s safely ended pregnancies for over twenty years should no longer be available—not just in anti-abortion states, but everywhere. We knew the ruling was coming, just as we did when Roe was overturned. As was the case then, foreknowledge doesn’t make the moment any easier.
There’s no real way to prepare for the feeling of despair that rises in your body as you’re reminded, once again, that you’re no longer a full citizen in your own country.

It should come as no surprise that Justice Alito is a hypocrite of the highest order. He is nothing more than a degraded copy of Scalia, absent the intelligence and temperament. Alito is a political hack with no independent judgment, thought, or will.
