To every pokemon character: Oh no! A trickster god has announced that it's going to change your species. It's far too powerful to stop it from doing this. However, it's allowing you to choose which species you're going to change to, with the caveat that Transform won't work when you use it. Which species do you change to, and why?

Myu: I think that braixens have such cute fur, and they're great spellcasters... My mother would have never wanted to hear it, though!

Atticus: I'm a fan of being soft and not doin' much, and that seems like stuff drampas do. And I like being a dragon, despite the everything else. Topaz'd like it.

Topaz: I wanna be a big scary monster!!

Clara: Tch. Well, if I must choose... I am not keen on being bothered, and so being a salamence is the easiest way to achieve that, as far as strangers should be concerned. All of the nearby villages were afraid of my father, and they were right to be.

Gamma: Kadabra. I chose that at random. Haha, why not, anyway? Not like I got many other ideas! At least they're good with psychic stuff and holding lots of tools.

Opal: I've always thought ice-types were beautiful, darling. As weavile, I think I would rather like holding onto the dark-type.

Matt: Ah... Perhaps I could be a dubwool t' fit in with the people in my old village better. Nothin' wrong with bein' a raichu, of course; in fact, I don't wish fer another life. But I respect dubwools very highly.

Caroline: I don't want to change. Nidoqueen.

Marie: Fighting-types are awesome, and I'm already good at punching, so I'll be even better.

Sandy: Oh, umm, I said before that I'd be like my character, Sapphire! She's a celebi, and she's pink, and she has healing powers.

Dr. Steele: I would certainly not mind becoming a tinkaton. The way they swing around those heavy hammers with ease is enviable.

Dr. Charkoal: I will become a mawile. So that I may show Dr. Steele was it is like to be bitten.

the posthoot friday night inspired me to finish my mom and dad tholomule designs - their names are Atticus and Fiona 💛 Atticus is both boys’ bio dad, but Fiona is Matt’s biological mother and adopted Steve when she married Atticus. They both work in the Construction Coven which takes them away from home a lot, which is why Steve had to help raise Matt 💛 they attended Hexside, but worked in Latissa for many years before moving back to Bonesborough sometime during Season 1 (in order to put Matt into Hexside after Steve brought it to their attention he was being bullied at school). (I also worked on designs for Atticus’s siblings, one of whom is Boscha’s three-eyed-mom - I’ll post those hopefully soon but yeah the matt and boscha cousins HC is so personal and real to me)

Lovecraft Country - Matt Ruff

My third attempt to read this book. I don't know why, because I've enjoyed it each time I've tried to read it. It's not the most amazing book by any means, but I love the characters Atticus Turner and Letitia and Ruby Dandridge. I think that books like The Ballad of Black Tom better take the topic of Lovecraft's racism and take it back for African-Americans. I think that story is better written. I sort of wonder if Ruff used Lovecraft name for sales and attention. Here, you pretty much could pick any horror/sci-fi/fantasy author from that time period and get similar results, Lovecraft was just more pronounced in his racism, but Lovecraft's racism doesn't have a lot to do with this particular series of stories. When it touched on Lovecraft subjects I think is when I liked it the most. No surprise there for me, since I enjoy Lovecraft's story ideas. For me, when this book was led by the female characters (Dreams of the Which House/Jekyll in Hyde Park) were when it was the strongest for me and I really loved those sections of the book. Give me a full length novel with Letitia and Ruby and I'd be stoked to read that. As a whole, a series of stories, it was up and down for me. It wasn't ever bad, even at its worst I think Ruff is a talented author, just some of the stories didn't grab me as hard as others.

Oh! Wait! I don't have to answer this seriously. Right? I would pick the "strange ability" to understand Atticus's jokes.

Atticus: Hey!!

Well, y'know, I got plenty of strange abilities already... so I'll pass! I'm already a stranger, and I don't need to be stranger.

Topaz: I don't know how this means. But! I do want something. I want a lot of abilities!

Gamma: You want me to be stranger? Oh, Atticus already used that one? Aw, why's he always get to go first? Well, if I had the uncanny ability to revive the dead, that'd be an easy shot.

Clara: The abilities I had as a mew were already "strange" as far as most other monsters were concerned, but I suppose right about now... if I had the ability to speak with either of my children, I would take it.

Steven: The amazing ability to get my colleagues off my fucking back. Or the ability to have a sandwich when I want it...

Roxanne: I'd like to see into the future. That would really come in handy with a family like mine.

Opal: Darling, I have the Sigma Gun, what more do I need? But if I had the drives...

Matt: If I could teleport, that'd help out a lotta things. It'd make poppin' over to Cascadia City faster. It'd help me out here in town too...

Caroline: The ability to get the justice system to listen to us.
