February 2024. Originally entitled HENRY JAMES' DRIVE-AWAY DYKES until the studio objected, this fitfully violent, very silly lesbian road movie plays more like QUENTIN TARANTINO'S DYKES TO WATCH OUT FOR: Two mismatched gay friends, uptight Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan) and oversexed Jamie (Margaret Qualley), decide to drive to Tallahassee via a drive-away car delivery service and end up pursued by a pair of bickering goons (Joey Slotnick and C.J. Wilson) looking to retrieve a mysterious package hidden in the trunk of our heroines' car.

A pet project for director Ethan Coen and his wife Tricia Cooke (who is gay), the film, set in 1999, is basically a droll mashup of low-budget '90s lesbian romcoms (e.g., GO FISH, BAR GIRLS) and the same period's innumerable PULP FICTION imitators, full of absurd bits of business and scene-stealing secondary characters, including Beanie Feldstein as Jamie's hilariously bitter cop ex-GF. Some of its more ridiculous moments feel like trying too hard, but it's largely unburdened by the creeping nihilism that often drags down the Coen Brothers' ostensibly comedic efforts.

Much like costar Margaret Qualley's cartoony Texas accent, it can't be taken seriously, but it's endearing if received in the spirit intended, and there are far worse ways to spend 75 minutes. Coen and Cooke say it's intended as the first in a loose trilogy of lesbian B-movies.

'...The Golden Globes saw a mini reunion between the cast of Fellow Travelers and All of us Strangers with a twinning moment between Andrew Scott and Jonathan Bailey both in white ensembles. Bailey opted for Givenchy, whilst Scott scored in Valentino...

There were two big winners on the night with Oppenheimer and Succession scoring multiple wins including Best Drama TV Series.

Major nominations from LGBTQIA+ projects failed to convert into wins. One fan wrote: “Soo the Golden Globes snubbed Fellow Travelers, All of Us Strangers, Rustin, Matt Bomer, AND Colman Domingo. Queer stories just don’t matter to Hollywood, even in 2024.”...

1- Green Day - St. Jimmy: ok, so this past few days this blast from the past came back to my head and I started listening to it almost on repeat. When I was a kid/tween/pre-teen I would listen to the whole American Idiot album and love it, specially the titular song, but for some reason St Jimmy had a special place in my heart. Maybe because it reflected stuff that I grew up with. Maybe because I barely understood English (and even less from Billie Joe Armstrong) and I only got bits here and there, but it sounded cool af.

2- Amaral - Tarde de Domingo Rara: Another blast from the past! Now in Spanish! This is one of the first albums I bought, and even if it's not my favourite Amaral album, it still means a lot :)

3- Marea - Los mismos clavos: Another Spanish song! My spouse dedicated this one to me before we got married and we wanted it to be the one we walked out of the church to, but it's so complex to perform on guitar that we couldn't find an instrumental version, and part of the lyrics didn't really allow for us to have it play in a church. Still! I still love it and the feeling is beautiful if probably a bit grimm for some.

4- Matt Maeson - Straight Razor: Listen, sad music sad me. This is a super chill song and it hits. I generally like this man's songs for this same reason. It's just a fun time feeling my feelings, ya know?

5- Mahmood - Mai Figlio Unico: Is he the best artist out there? No. Is this his best song? Also no. Do I enjoy very much that there's a song that's about experiences I've also had, like having a sibling that you've never met and a parent that you both share from whom you feel you got the short straw with all this? Very much so, yes.
