(I haven't found an image that appeals to me in that book so I'm back to square one might as well share my knowledge)

Like I mentioned in the tags wound healing is a very complex process and I'm in no way an expert on it but here a brief summary from yours truly (with some talk about scars because that was super interesting).

You can section the wound repair into three parts: inflammation, tissue formation and tissue remodeling, keeping in mind that there is some overlap with these processes. In biology most things often happen in parallel it's a bit messy and complicated tbh but if it works, it works!

Inflammation:

A wound is often connected with destroyed blood vessels aka you bleed all over the place. Which not great, no matter what the local bloodthirsty psychopath says. So your body goes right to fixing it and this starts with platelet aggregation. Hours after you accidentally cut yourself during mealprep got the wound reepithelization starts. Basically your epidermis (top most layer of the skin) is broken and that ain't cutting it Chief. You need that epidermis intact so you don't die of infection or waterloss or lots of other nasty shit. So epithelial cells from around the wound wander to the damaged part of the skin to reestablish the epidermis. There's also some differentiation shit going on if the wound is big but I'm not touching this it will makes things even more complicated. In general that section went over my head so just know that the epidermis gets restored because again, don't wanna die of sepsis and all that.

Okay so sorry but i continued to skim over the stuff rn and it's so fucking much i really don't know how to summarize all this in a coherent manner OTL

Basically you have platelet aggregation, immune cells cleaning up the site (and doing lots of other stuff too), migration of epitehial cells. Formation of granulation tissue? i checked out on that part tbh, but i think that forms at the base of a wound to fill it up (involves fibroblasts and extracellular matrix (ECM) again i don't really get that part). Then you have angiogenesis which means formation of new blood vessels. annnnd after that i really didn't have the spoons to read pages about signaling pathways and stuff. (so many cytokines.... and growth factors...)

Let's skip to scars because I've read that part so I can deliver scar facts 🫡

A wound needs to be deep enough for scar tissue to form quoting the book I'm reading:

Scars are different to normal skin tissue because of their collagen structure. In normal skin tissue collagen I is structered in a basket-weave pattern. With scar tissue however, collagen I is arragened in parallel bundles. This explains why scars have less tensile strength and flexibility than healthy tissue because the basket-weave pattern allows for more flexibility. Also scar tissue has no elatin in it which contributes to the stiffness as well.

Scars look different compared to healthy tissue mostly because of melanocytes (which give skin its colour) and because lots of different dermal structures can't be regenerated from scratch so the wound is filled up with collagen and ECM instead.

Othewise another cool scar fact: Scarless healing in humans is possible but only in fetus and oral mucosa, which i get the fetus but I didn't know about the oral mucosa so that's neat. Again quoting my book here:

In adult humans the oral mucosa can heal with insignificant scar as well. This tissue has some similarities to fetal tissue in which the environment is consistently hydrated, experiences little mechanical stress, and has a stunted inflammatory response.

“Trauma kit!” he ordered, and a large silver case materialized beside him.

Rios had stepped aside to let the hologram work. He was trembling.

“Is she…?”

“She’s alive,” the EMH answered, running his tricorder over the wound. “Barely. We need to get her to med bay.”

Always at the leading edge of technology, both the space and aviation communities are where you watch to understand how the world is changing—and changing fast.

A friend recently reported in aviation insider magazines that people are doubtful that electrification will work. He explained they are wrong. Electrification is already in testing by all the major aviation companies for flights between 30 and 300 miles. Vertical take-off and some then trimmed to normal flight,  demonstrators are showing increasingly surprising economic results. Of course, part of the issue will trickle down to problems for users. Take one example: Where do you land in a city? On top of buildings? Then you better redesign the elevator shafts to allow passengers to get to the roof. And a great deal of electrification of air flight might be pilotless, drones, or UAVs... and the FAA is desperately worried at the proliferation of multiple mid-air converging flights.

Meanwhile, making the next generation of commercial aircraft more efficient and more commercially viable, Boeing have three demonstrator aircraft that they are retrofitting with all sorts of test equipment and modification. One test is for little vanes that emerge, pop up, from the center of the wing at low speeds to improve laminar airflow—allowing a more controllable aircraft at a slower speed, more efficient at low altitude. Similarly they have programs to test laminar-flow winglets, ceramic matrix composite nozzles for engines, touch-screen cockpit displays,  active-flow-control vertical tail and wing sections coated with insect repellant, biofuels, advanced sensors, special paint to reduce drag, compact thrust reversers, and a host of other invention. Where are these inventions coming from? Boeing is inviting vendors and other scientists to have a go on their demonstrator, principally a 777-200ER currently flying to Scotland, Frankfurt and back to Seattle. One exciting test involves an intelligent ultraviolet-light-sanitizing system to help clean and sterilize the plane after each landing. An intelligent cabin system is currently in flight—sensors keep track of everything used, from armrests, seatbelts, dirty carpets, galley equipment use... and those sensors will update an AI computer on board the plane of what, where, and when an component needs repair or replacing.

Last, but not least, the military have evaluated all their global installations that are vulnerable to climate related emergencies. This look is one of my regular bleach and sound customers that we usually make in Platinum Blonde. This time, we decided to drown it in a light pastel-colored lilac root. I used a medium sized rod to curl her hair and combed it loosely with my fingers and an oil. Your cut is a simple long shift. I love all sorts of blond services, but I love the all-over bleaching and the tone looks best.

Any advice for someone considering it?

If someone is considering this look, he should really have a natural level 7 hair or higher. Also the maintenance is something that should be considered. I suggest to do a repair every 5 weeks. I send my guests home with my favorite purple shampoo (Pulp Riot Barcelona) for home care. I also recommend to do a home care treatment once a week and oil it with a heat protection product.

Unicorn hair

How would you describe this look?

I call this look unicorn tears, but they are tears of joy.

I love using this diagonal separation technique with my color customers because it makes the color image look different no matter where the client chooses to separate it. Dividing them in the middle creates a ribbon effect. If they decide to share their hair on the side, then it will actually take on a more dramatic peekaboo effect.

I love Mydentity Hair Dye and it combines Sidekick, Olaplex! While this is possible with other brands, they were the foundation of that look.

Any advice for someone considering it?

For all unicorn lovers out there! This look can be for anyone who is a unicorn in the heart.

My advice to potential customers who want to achieve this look: be patient, insist on Olaplex hair dye and expect to pay for such a look. It requires a lifting process that could require several appointments to reach the desired level of blonde. It may also require toners, treatments and glazes or full-color before the funny shades are even applied. The dark hair starts last longer and requires more steps to achieve pastel tones than naturally bright hair.

More importantly, knowing that pastel shades are a fragile color in each color line. They all tend to fade quickly. So, if this is the pastel-colored unicorn hair of your dreams, you just know that it's a highly effective color and needs regular care to preserve its color.

I always recommend to my pastel and direct dye customers to have their hair washed separately with cold water, to make a dry shampoo for their BFF, because too much washing makes it fade faster, and to use only sulfate-free, professional studio-grade shampoo and conditioner. Mydentity and Olaplex both have great shampoo and conditioner options for this need.

In addition, a small amount of heat is required for the styling. For the same reason as washing with cold water, heat can open the hair layer and cause the hair to slip to the right or even burn out. Cold means longevity.

This particular model had to start with level 3 hair. That was her third visit to me. On the second visit, we made 2 visits to sure brightening with Mydentity Brightener mixed with Olaplex, treatments, toners, glazes, and a platinum color to get an ice-white blonde. On the third visit, we reworked a platinum root and made a plating glaze with the same products to remove any remaining gold tones. Next came the Olaplex treatment and then all the Mydentity pastel direct dyes were used to achieve this pastel color. Each visit took between 5-7 hours to create tears of magic for our unicorn.

Peachy hair

How would you describe this look?

This reminds me of drinking pink lemonade on the terrace on a sunny day. I love the texture on this one long bob, which gives the hair volume, even though it does not have much hair. I also love the lightly dressed, rooted look.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This is the type of customer who is always interested in trying new things without disrupting the maintenance and care of pastel life. She is funny and open-minded and armed with a creative spirit. She likes to use her daily dose of blow-dry lotions, thickening products and hair sprays to really make the textures visible.

Blue green

How would you describe this look?

My client has come up with the name Cruella DeMermaid, which I think fits perfectly with this color!

I love the versatility of this color. I've cut out the two halves in a zigzag pattern so that it could look completely different depending on how she feels about how she shares her hair. The gentle waves and the dreamy color give me a serious summer beach atmosphere.

Any advice for someone considering it?

If a customer is considering using pastel, there are a few things he should consider. You need to lighten your hair in a very pale pale blond color to bring out the true tone. This requires patience and can be costly. Second, pastel tones tend to fade faster than saturated / jewel toned colors.

Be prepared to wash your hair less often, and always use a shampoo that is true to color and conditioner and very cold water to keep the color fresh.

Luckily, vibrant and pastel colors are not so off-limits anymore, so it's a great way to show the world who you are inside.

How would you describe this look?

It's a really modern look. These colors are very common in Switzerland at the moment. I love this color because it really emphasizes the blue eye color.

It also washes very well. After 2 weeks it got greener and after 1 month it is now a light pastel mint color.

Any advice for someone considering it?

What you have to keep in mind is that these pastel colors do not last very long. They wash out faster than the natural colors like blonde or brown tones, so you probably need to go to the hair salon more often. You also have to bleach the hair to white-blond before you can make such a color, so your hair should be as healthy as possible.

It's also important to be a person who takes time to do the hair treatment, because after bleaching and adding hair dye, your hair needs more frequent treatments such as masks, a good color-gentle conditioner and moisturizing leave-in & styling products.

If someone is considering this look, he should really have a natural level 7 hair or higher. Also the maintenance is something that should be considered. I suggest to do a repair every 5 weeks. I send my guests home with my favorite purple shampoo (Pulp Riot Barcelona) for home care. I also recommend to do a home care treatment once a week and oil it with a heat protection product.

I call this look unicorn tears, but they are tears of joy.

I love using this diagonal separation technique with my color customers because it makes the color image look different no matter where the client chooses to separate it. Dividing them in the middle creates a ribbon effect. If they decide to share their hair on the side, then it will actually take on a more dramatic peekaboo effect.

I love Mydentity Hair Dye and it combines Sidekick, Olaplex! While this is possible with other brands, they were the foundation of that look.

For all unicorn lovers out there! This look can be for anyone who is a unicorn in the heart.

My advice to potential customers who want to achieve this look: be patient, insist on Olaplex hair dye and expect to pay for such a look. It requires a lifting process that could require several appointments to reach the desired level of blonde. It may also require toners, treatments and glazes or full-color before the funny shades are even applied. The dark hair starts last longer and requires more steps to achieve pastel tones than naturally bright hair.

More importantly, knowing that pastel shades are a fragile color in each color line. They all tend to fade quickly. So, if this is the pastel-colored unicorn hair of your dreams, you just know that it's a highly effective color and needs regular care to preserve its color.

I always recommend to my pastel and direct dye customers to have their hair washed separately with cold water, to make a dry shampoo for their BFF, because too much washing makes it fade faster, and to use only sulfate-free, professional studio-grade shampoo and conditioner. Mydentity and Olaplex both have great shampoo and conditioner options for this need.

In addition, a small amount of heat is required for the styling. For the same reason as washing with cold water, heat can open the hair layer and cause the hair to slip to the right or even burn out. Cold means longevity.

This particular model had to start with level 3 hair. That was her third visit to me. On the second visit, we made 2 visits to sure brightening with Mydentity Brightener mixed with Olaplex, treatments, toners, glazes, and a platinum color to get an ice-white blonde. On the third visit, we reworked a platinum root and made a plating glaze with the same products to remove any remaining gold tones. Next came the Olaplex treatment and then all the Mydentity pastel direct dyes were used to achieve this pastel color. Each visit took between 5-7 hours to create tears of magic for our unicorn.
