15 people 15 questions
thanks to @simmyfrobby and @sergeifyodorov for the tags. my fandom mom and dad (affectionate)
sorry this got long (also sorry for that joke, joy and cody, I regretted it as soon as I typed it)
1. are you named after anyone? short answer, no. long answer, I'm named after a goddess, but it wasn't with the goddess in mind that I was named, it just sort of ended up that way. and I chose aleksandar because of the protagonist of a book.
2. when was the last time you cried? ok this one was funny. I was watching one of the tsn(?) promo vids they did for the pwhl. there was a girl, I don't even know who she is, but I had the most intense thought like "WHY AM I SO OBSESSED WITH HER" and I was TEARING UP!!!! so the tl;dr is that I am a lesbian and I like girls
3. do you have kids? no but I think about it a fair amount like... that's definitely not something that is possible for me but I love kids!!!
4. what sports have you played/do you play? as a kid I did a bit of soccer, ballet, contemporary dance and nothing really stuck... then in high school I discovered endurance running and it actually Changed My Life. then I got an injury before running my first 10k. which was a shame. and now I've not really picked it up again, but I do freestyle wrestling!! which is a TON OF FUN & I hope to keep at it for a long time
(I do still find soccer fun to this day I'm just terribly unskilled at it and sometimes get the urge to join 12 year olds playing it in the park)
5. do you use sarcasm? yes
6. what's the first thing you notice about people? if they look friendly. I don't know.
7. what's your eye colour? brown AF
8. scary movies or happy endings? and what if I want my horror movie to end well??
9. any talents? I can sing... I like drawing when I can set my mind to it. I don't write enough but I really like my writing style : )
10. where were you born? montréal, québec BABY!!!!
11. what are your hobbies? doing nothing on the computer. listening to obscure music. making mashups. watching sports (obviously). PHYSICAL ACTIVITY!! language learning and uhh, reading and drawing on occasion
12. do you have any pets? four! dog. cat. two rats (chucky and freddy. I talk about them sometimes)
13. how tall are you? an unfortunate 5 feet and 3 inches tall
14. favourite subject in school? history or english. or french, honestly depends. english I didn't have to put any work in (ESL is deeply unserious (we were learning verb conjugations in TENTH GRADE!!!???)). history was fun when we talked about something I liked (war history. and also I liked the teacher). french I could also get away with not doing anything because I was the best student in the class. Um. math was fun honestly? did a bit of html & js in college before dropping out, loved it also,.
15. dream job? so re: question 3 & question 4. my dream job would be to coach kids at wrestling, honestly. I love teaching & I love kids but I won't be going back to school to become a teacher, but being able to teach a sport would be, I think, the most fun I could have in a job... as of right now my current job plan is to go become what is essentially a handyman. it pays and I would like doing it!
I won't tag 15 people but @one4theoverlypassionate, @nicohischier, @dacchamp, @pink-car, @nastybastian, @ineffag-swag, @glitchcel, @jimothystu... if you haven't done this! (and sorry if you have. I'm not as online as I used to be 😭)

Part 11 of convincing you to read my stiles x oc fanfic using dialogue from ‘Rising Tides’.
Zaida: Do you think if I tell Coach I’m on my period, he’ll let me get out of gym?
Lydia: You’ve used that excuse like twice this month. Coach is no genius by any means, but I'm pretty sure even he’d know the math doesn’t quite add up there.
Zaida: I can just tell him I’m irregular. I’m sure if I start recalling all the bloody, messy details he’ll get uncomfortable enough to drop the subject.
Lydia: He’s our Phys Ed teacher. He literally has to teach us about the human body, I doubt he’d get uncomfortable.
Zaida: Let’s test it, then.
Zaida: (calling over Scott and Stiles) Hey boys! If I were to tell you that I am experiencing intense stomach cramps and a mixture of blood and uterine lining gushing out of my body in an uncontrollable, hot waterfall…would you let me out of gym class?
Stiles: I’d say that’s a valid reason to not want to climb fifteen feet into the air.
Lydia: What if she were to have told you that twice already this month?
Scott: (innocently) Does that happen multiple times a month? I thought it was just once.
Lydia: (disappointed) Really, Scott?
BONUS:
Stiles: Scared of heights?
Lydia: More like, allergic to exercise.

Guniw Tools Q-it! Question & Profile (Eng. translation)
Tumblr media
This is a Q&A style interview with Guniw Tools from 1997, when the band consisted of Full, Jake, & Asaki. There's 37 questions in total. The internet doesn't see much translated Guniw Tools content so I wanted to post my own!! Part 1 is under the cut..
Part 2
Before you read: everything in (parentheses) is there because they wrote it, any footnotes are *asterisked & italicized
1. The name, make, & model of the instrument you primarily use? Full: Synths, EMU Proteus and AKAI S950 Jake: Gibson – E-335, Ovation – Deacon Asaki: ESP “Mr. Batsu-ichi”¹, Rickenbacker 625, concert “Asakichi no. 1”², and many many more ¹Mr. Batsu-ichi is a nickname for his guitar, batsuichi roughly translates to : ‘strike one’, a slang term used to refer to divorcées, especially of the first marriage. The actual guitar model is a ESP SA-100 ²Another nickname I think, unsure which equipment it refers to 2.   Things you must always bring as tour necessities? Full: Rubber cement (liquid rubber silicone), bird feathers, rubber snakes, slime, sweets (300 yen worth) Jake: Tupperware (for takeout), Game Boy Asaki: There’s so many things-! 3.   Things that are essential to ensure a live show goes smoothly?
Full: Get to the venue earlier on Jake: Pushups, alcohol. Asaki: Smoke!! and drink!* *the way this is written could interchangeably mean drinking in place of smoking/vice versa, so he could also be saying “drink!! & then drink!” 4.   Things that must be done to ensure the recording process go smoothly? Full: Regular life.* *following a steady routine every day. Jake: Don’t worry. Don’t give anyone a hard time. Asaki: Even if you’re drunk, drink! 5:   Typical time spent rehearsing during a tour? Full: 7 days Jake: It’s usually a mixed bag Asaki: I don’t care about every little thing like that 6.    Do you have perfect pitch? Full: Ought to not be* *like saying “Absolutely! not.” Jake: I don’t have it Asaki: Hm, what if.. what would that would be like?! 7.   Music grades throughout elementary, middle, and high school? Full: 3* *Schools in Japan have a numerical grading system with 5 being the highest grade and 1 being the lowest Jake: Teachers took one look at me, man.. Asaki: √2 8.  Your best subject through elementary, middle, and high school? Full: Math and art Jake: English Asaki: Online classes 9.  Your worst subject through elementary, middle, and high school? Full: Physical Education Jake: Math Asaki: Health & physical education (definitely a lie) 10.  The most frequent way you got in touch with music when you were young? (1) In what form? Full: I’d say probably records (LP).. Jake: △ (triangle) Asaki: I would say it was kind of a round experience...but sharp around the edges... (2) From what age? Full: Age 5 Jake: –––––– Asaki: If you're talking about sugar, a cup and a half. 11.   Were you exposed to music from an early age as part of your development? Full: I don’t recall Jake: I wonder.. Asaki: Ahh yes, I was. 12.   What is your ideal TV appearance? Full: Studio jacking.* *He probably means hijacking a TV stations broadcast signal (Max Headroom) Jake: Today’s Doggie* *A morning news segment that essentially showcases a ‘daily doggie’ acting in cute & interesting ways lolol Asaki: I’ll let you know by tomorrow. 13.   What is your ideal magazine appearance? Full: Appearance on the front cover only. Interview on page 4. Jake: –––––– Asaki: I want to be featured in Kenzo Kitakata's life advice column*!! *Kenzo Kitakata is a Japanese novelist who had a column in ‘Hot Dog Press’ magazine where he gave answers to the various problems of troubled youth
14.   If you were to compare yourself to someone like Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu*, which? *In simplest terms, these three are historical figures often used like a personality test. Nobunaga – Strong leader type Hideyoshi – Teamwork type Ieyasu - Coach type Full: Hiraga Gennai* *Eccentric ‘jack of all trades’ type. Pharmacologist, author, painter, & inventor who composed works on homosexual desire as well as satirical pieces & poetry. Jake: Tamori.* *Comedian known for hosting a weekly music television program Asaki: Charles Bronson* *Western actor, handsome & manly type 15.   Part time jobs you’ve had? Full: Drawing signboards and inscribing names into jewelry Jake: The Guardsman.* *A TV drama, he’s saying security guard in a jokey way Asaki: Effects pedal shop “I don’t need the strain~”* *I think it's a joke that only works in Japanese, the word he used has a double meaning ‘effects pedal’ & ‘strain’ (as in it strains the sound), so when he literally says “I don’t need effects pedal” it's actually like a pun saying “I don't need to be strained!” E.g. kind of like “We nailed it!” 16.    Alcoholic journeys? Full: None Jake: Methyl→Nitroglycerin Asaki: I’ll never drink ethanol again.. 17.   Gambling journeys? Full: None. I spend around 3,000 yen on horse betting (yearly) Jake: Life's a gamble Asaki: 5,000 points to Hara Taira* *A pop culture reference to a quiz show where contestants & celebrities would be asked a question, the contestant bets points on whichever celebrity they think knew the answer. If you both had the correct answer you would win the points amount. A reliable respondent was manga artist Hara Taira, so many people would bet on his correct answer that it became a popular saying “5,000 points to Hara Taira!” 18.   History with women? Full: Just a few (all refreshing/simple types) Jake: ––––– Asaki: Eventually I hooked up with Madonna (enough said)
You can see the rest of the photoshoot here & here
Feel free to share/repost as you wish, I'd like for their work to be as accessible as possible!

Tagged by @faejilly , thank you! I will once again tag anyone who wants to!
Were you named after anyone?
Not intentionally, but when I was about 12 my mom suddenly realized that my name was a variation on the name of her cousin, who also happened to be one of her best friends, so retroactively I'm named after her!
When was the last time you cried?
Oh man, I'm moving soon and I get really attached to places, so I've been pretty sniffly. Add to that the fact that I made the mistake of looking at cat pictures/videos too much on social media and now all my feeds are incredibly sad stories of people losing their pets. :( So yes, a couple days ago I was pretty weepy.
Do you have kids?
Nope!
Do you use sarcasm?
Probably on occasion. I don't think I sell it very well, for the same reason that I can't be mean in video games.
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Whether or not they're walking a cute dog.
What’s your eye colour?
Brown
Scary movies or happy endings?
Probably happy endings overall, but scary movies can be fun!
Any special talents?
I can tell you if there's a 30% chance it's already raining.
Where were you born?
Canada! Somehow been in the States for nearly 11 years already.
What are your hobbies?
Playing piano, video games, reading, hiking (intermittently), writing (still more intermittently), D&D, apparently collecting Pokemon cards in the year 2023.
Have any pets?
A lovely little cat named Clara! I adopted her from the shelter at seven months old and she's somehow four years old already.
What sports do/have you played?
I went to soccer camp every year in middle-high school, I tried out for the basketball team in high school but left tryouts halfway through when a moment of clarity revealed to me that most of the people in the gym were the same ones who were always weirdly mean to me in class, and I fenced competitively (epee) from eighth grade through college, and also coached for a bit. Also did "ballet" and then actual ballet from 3-13 (I participated in the Dodge Instructors Every Time They Want You To Go En Pointe challenge until they suggested I leave), which was the hardest workout of the lot, for sure.
How tall are you?
5'7"/ 170 cm
Favorite subject at school?
Loved them all, but in grade school it would've been English and Math. In college it was a Music 101 class and a 400-level fluid dynamics class.
Dream Job?
Doing interesting and helpful research, teaching cool classes to motivated students, working with teams of people to make the field a better place, mentoring students one-on-one and helping them learn about the world, all at a workplace with a focus on "no work outside of work hours" and with sufficient remuneration and job security that I never have to get a new job. Which is what I'm doing now! So yeah, I really love the job I'm doing right now, and this is the year I put together my tenure package so fingers crossed on that last point.

Thank you Elle (@il-predestinato) for tagging me! Loved the Audie photo btw, she’s definitely giving Charles a run for his money on who is the most adorable wearing that Monaco cap.
1. Are you named after anyone?
Not that I know of, although my parents wanted it to be bit of an uncommon name. Fast forward to elementary school, there was girl in my class with the same name. Fast forward to now, turns out it’s a pretty darn popular name in a different part of the country. Oh well...
2. When was the last time you cried?
Oh boy...Uhm, let’s just say that last month has been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster at work, but it’s all good now, at least I hope it is.
On the other hand, I also teared up a little yesterday while reading one of the new entries in the Lestappen tag. I’d rec it here, but the author doesn’t want it shared outside AO3. Nevertheless, you’ll find it in the tag quite easily I think.
3. Do you have kids?
Nope. Think I might want one eventually, but definitely not any time soon.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
It usually comes out the strongest when I’m pissed off, and when it does...let’s just say I’m not anybody’s bestie then 😅.
5. What sports do you play/have you played?
I have a confession to make...I’m a bit like our beloved boys Maxy and Charlie when it comes to sports (that may also include driving, but I hope I can fix that soon). I did try dance for a hot minute, but I kind of/sort sucked at it. What else? Oh right, had one swimming class before I caught pneumonia. Fun times.
6. What's the first thing you notice about other people?
I have a bit of a sweet spot for fashion, so definitely how they’re dressed. Charlie baby, I’m definitely judging you.
7. Scary movies or happy endings?
Definitely happy endings. Although recently I’ve been the tiniest bit more exposed to scary movies. I still think they suck though.
8. Any special talents?
Definitely not. Although I’m going to take a page out of Elle’s book and say that at least I am fully aware about things I suck at. Self-conscious, right? That can easily slip into underestimating yourself, but that’s a another story...
9. Where were you born?
Romania, my frenemy, the land of choice. King Charles apparently likes it here. If only it were a different Charles...ahem.
10. What are your hobbies?
Reading, writing, watching silly little sports about silly little tax-evading men and down-right abusive federations and coaches who exploit their athletes...also spending time with the people I love. Balance, right?
11. Do you have any pets?
I do! Two kitties and one dog. But they’re not as cool as Audie!
12. How tall are you?
164 cm, and I am very adamant that it’s 164, not 163, okay? Also, I have no idea how inches work.
13. Fave subject in school?
It would have been Math if I had had less...Russian coaches like teachers (to a much more smaller scale, but still). English definitely, and I guess also Romanian (but our literature is...not the most entertaining and my teachers were weird).
14. Dream job?
I’m starting more and more to realise that it’s being a university professor. Which is a bit of bummer financially, and also it doesn’t help that in my field and in my country it’s generally perceived that only people who fail in the industry turn to academia. But I really like working with students and helping them succeed.
15. Eye colour?
I’m going to step away from the poop joke and instead use the Stephenie Meyer description of chocolate brown ✌🏻.
Tagging: @xiaoluclair, @alestire, @pressradio, @coconutshygame, @the-last-jedis, @dnfstrategist, @just-an-inchident, @karlmarxverstappen if any of you guys want to this or haven't been tagged already!

First post. No further elaboration. Coz why?
Just kidding. I am here to talk today....or to vent, more precisely.
JEE is hard. It's ridiculous. But what's even more ridiculous are the expectations, the burden of honor, and the fear of disappointment and despair ingrained into our values caused due to our inability to cope with the extraordinary expectations, after we get into the toppers group.
I worked hard to get into the 'good kids' group. Then I got demotivated after a single failure coz I'm fucking weak, and now am procrastinating.
"Plenty of people finished 11 and 12 in class 9 and 10. They only practice and take mock tests for the 2 years of secondary higher education. So if you don't atleast finish 12 within 11, you'll never crack JEE. And anything without IIT CSE is meaningless when you are in JEE." —Mom
"You can't even rank first in the small area that we live in? What are you gonna do in JEE where competition is at national level?" —Mom, after I scored 207/300 and ranked 6th at my local coaching centre in my first JEE Main Mock test with Kinematics, mole concept, periodic table, trigonometry as topics.
And the thing is, I can't even protest her words, after all, the 1st rank scored 264 and the 2nd rank scored 246. With such a huge difference, I can't even argue. Since more is expected from me as I am supposedly a kid who is wasting away my potential as a someone who can become a JEE top ranker.
"What? You only answered 252? You couldn't even answer 300? You know right how much your marks will be considering your poor 90% accuracy rate? It will go down to minimum of 220s. I am quite disappointed."
This is the 2nd mock test I am talking about, the result hasn't been declared yet. But this exam was said to be especially hard with the insanely tough maths section and mid hard chem questions. The 1st ranker dude from last time answered 230s this time, and the 2nd ranker answered 256. The 3rd ranker, who is actually one of the best prospect in our entire class 11 batch in the whole state, answered 284 but he's quite sad because apparently he will get a lot of negatives. I am expecting 3rd or 2nd rank this time but I think life's gonna gimme lemons as always.
This is what I go through as a JEE aspirant. It wasn't supposed to be this hard. It's toxic at this point. I am in a rat race that I can't even escape like in other countries, considering even self help opportunities such as working at fast food chains or something, for minors here are considered trash of the society. We aren't free here, we don't have the opportunity to experience the world and explore my options to find out what I am good at. There's only three options. Doctor, engineer, lawyer. This might sound funny because of the stereotype vids on YouTube about Asians. But it's not funny. Many of us can't handle the pressure and commit suicide. Kota, a city in Rajasthan known for being a hotspot of coaching centres, is also stereotyped for being the Indian version of Japan's suicide forest, except it's exclusively for kids. Others go to depression and fall into the abyss of gambling and drugs.
The education system here has lost it's purpose. It has become an elitist system where the only way of survival is either your own talent or your backing. If you don't have either, you're better off being a lowest ranking member of the society succumbing to the higher ranks.
1:46 AM in the morning, I am sitting here writing this post thinking if anybody could say something that would turn my life around. This is more of a silent cry for help instead of something new to share with the world. I am sitting here in vain thinking there might be some magic trick to success here when I deep down know there doesn't exist one. And thus, I fall into this deep rabbit hole, all in my know. I want to stop this spiraling vortex of abyss inside myself that is erasing my existence. But I'm not trying. It's as if I have been mentally and spiritually paralysed.
I have realised something as conclusion. Life is drowning in reality, but the hellish standards that we have here in India are the sandbags that are tied to our feet in this already suffocative water, with no end of depth, we keep drowning and going deeper and deeper. I'm not happy. I want to break out. But I can't. This is painful. I hope it stops. But again, I know it won't, resulting in only pushing myself deeper into the abyss because of my hope being shattered. Hope is becoming dangerous by the day for me.
Am I the only one?

The final season of Showtime‘s hit series Billions is nearly here and ahead of the August 11 premiere, stars such as Paul Giamatti, Damian Lewis, Maggie Siff, and more are offering viewers an update on who’s who and where the ensemble of characters are at as the seventh season picks up.
Scroll down for a peek into what’s ahead and don’t miss the return of Billions when it makes its final season return on Paramount+ this summer.
[…]
Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) Returning Billionaire With smarts and ruthlessness, the working-class kid from Yonkers, New York, ascended to the apex of Wall Street, despite enemies like prosecutor Chuck Rhoades. The self-described opportunist’s “one saving grace: loyalty,” says Lewis. That useful skill could help his return home.
Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) Former NYS AG The silver spoon–raised Junior opted for power at all costs in civil service, eventually winning election as New York State attorney general…before being ejected. This season, Chuck “attempts to reclaim some moral compass,” says Giamatti. His mandate is to stop “the self-interested monster” Prince.
Wendy Rhoades (Maggie Siff) Staff Shrink The brilliant, intuitive performance coach—“she’s superhuman in this realm,” says Siff, like former boss Axe and her ex-husband Chuck—“perceives a threat in Prince and takes a moral stand.” Her journey this season: “plotting and full of machinations she’s often side-stepped before.”
Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) Billionaire Tycoon The hedge fund titan who took over Axe’s business is running for POTUS. Way less ethical than he professes, “Prince sincerely feels his actions are justified and that they help most people,” Stoll says. “Axe is out for revenge, but only a huge conspiracy can take Prince down!”
Mike Wagner (David Costabile) Axe’s Enforcer Wags is always “right in the center of the mix,” says Costabile. “If he hasn’t proven himself an excellent chess player by now, he has really blown it.” Libertine and loyal, Axe’s onetime No. 2 may still work at MPC, “but the bond between Axe and Wags endures.”
Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon) Chief financial analyst Taylor feels constrained by Prince, even though the “driven, ambitious” nonbinary character co-runs his company. “They must decide what kind of person they want to be and what they will risk it all for,” says Dillon, describing Taylor’s relationship with Axe as “kinetic.”
Kate Sacker (Dola Rashad) Prince Cap Lawyer Once Chuck’s trusted assistant U.S. attorney, Kate has smarts and a “cutthroat ambition,” the actress says, that brought her over to Prince Cap as legal counsel. “She navigates holding a more powerful position.”
Chuck Rhoades Sr. (Jeffrey DeMunn) Father figure Chuck’s dad, an entitled, money-loving businessman with a young wife and child, is a thorn in his son’s side when he pushes the boundaries of his marital fidelity and continues to interfere in Chuck’s business.
“Scooter” Dunbar (Daniel Breaker) Prince’s Enforcer Prince’s enigmatic right-hand man is uncle to Philip, who now temporarily oversees Michael Prince Capital with Taylor. Will Scooter, seemingly joined at the hip with Wags, be Mike’s spy at the company to ensure no one undermines the boss’ plans?

The date is September 13th. The time is 3:08 pm
This morning i woke up at 6:35 am and the door was open. I didnt bring it up with Niki, i think she dropped a pile of clothes on my bed. There was a pile of clothes there but I dont remeber if i put it there. I drank my customary cup of chi tea and Niki made me some sort of egg sandwich. I dont think it sat very well with my stomach. Im not going to bring it up though. I dont see her this happy usually. Maybe she’s had some sort of case crack. I dont ask her things about her work anymore.
I forgot my lunch, only remembered half way through the pass when i checked last nights blog. I didnt tell Niki, she was talking about her new favorite TV show. I dont remember what it was, i dont watch a lot of TV, especially with how hard it is to get any signal at home. It’s okay, I want to support her the best that i can.
When i got to school it became the usual waiting game. Latin, Math, History the usual trash heap. And then Academic coaching until lunch, all of which i spent in the library. Helping with yesterday’s shipment of books. Karl wasnt there but i checked in on my hours and i have close to 30 now. Adding on another 3 today to make it a total of 33 hours was nice. Two of the same number. Its nice.
After lunch at 11:23 I went to english. One of the better classes. I think i do well even if the teacher doesnt have enough space in her brain for another quiet student. I am good at english. I dont have anything due in that class. I began to organize. Something that helps me focus. Flipping through my notebook and folder nothing was out of place and so i began to sort my phone tabs.
Curiously, after flipping most closed, I found that my camera was open. I quickly flipped it away from my face. Embarrassing i know. I began to sift through my camera roll. It’s something i do a lot. When i dont have anything better to do which is most days. Besides. This blog was made for me to talk about my photos. So maybe you will be interested in the strange photo i found.
The time stamp was last night, late. 1:00 AM to be exact. The witching hour. So ironic.
Tumblr media
I am extremely worried about what this entails. I dont remeber taking this photo. I dont remember leaving my house last night. I wonder if it will be okay for Niki to lock the door more firmly.
It was fine though. English was over and i left, heading back to the library for another free period. I have almost all of my credits, and even though its scary I think i could graduate early. Maybe i could finally leave this town. Anyway i was in the library until school ended. At 2:45. I walked down the street again, taking the same route as the day before and ending at the station again.
Niki told me to wait in the receptionist room because she didnt want me in her office. Im okay with sitting on my phone. I like listening to music and sitting by myself in a loud room of strangers. Anyway, thats the dairy for today. I am free for anything, if any of the few people who are interested in me want to talk.
The time is now 3:14

Wayback Ward
What were Mary Ward teachers like in their high school years?
By Aby Villasis
Tumblr media
Mr. Titus in the math department
Here’s a little insight into some of our Mary Ward teachers' high school lives!
MR. LOCONTE
Mr. Loconte is one of Mary Ward’s very own! He was in TA 02 and a self-proclaimed nerd. In Grade 10, he had a math teacher that he did not agree with and avoided her at all costs, regardless of him needing help with his work. As a result, he did not begin unit one of math until halfway through the school year in January. He expressed how poor his work ethic was during that year. He also recalled a time where he memorized and presented five French assignments on the very last day of school — which his teacher was unamused with.
When he was a student, Mary Ward had yet to introduce conditional zeros and the one unit per week rule. There seems to be more structure now than before.
“Mary Ward was a little bit of a wild west when I was here [as a student],” Mr. Loconte says jokingly.
In Grade 11, he had a short romantic interest of his own. A year later, he was met with an amusing series of romantic rejections. He had his own share of people he rejected as well.
Mr. Loconte was a part of Mary Ward’s jazz band with his friends and played the saxophone. Additionally, he was also on the volleyball, softball, curling, and soccer teams.
ADVICE: “You really need to try hard despite it seemingly being uncool. And, it’s okay to be rejected. It does not define who you are.”
DR. ENGALLA
Dr. Engalla went to two different high schools, Parkdale CI and Father Michael Goetz. She liked all her teachers equally and they were all very kind to her, but she especially had a strong connection with her music teacher. Her music teacher constantly had a positive attitude which made classes more enjoyable. She felt that he always believed in her and encouraged her to always be the best version of herself.
She was extremely involved athletically throughout high school. She played badminton, volleyball, basketball, and softball. Out of all of them, her favourite was badminton.
Prior to teaching, she wanted to become a dentist. However, things didn’t work out, and she decided to go into pharmacy instead. She stuck with that for a couple of years until switching to chiropractic, where she practiced for two years before she decided to become a science teacher at Mary Ward.
ADVICE: “Don’t be too hard on yourself and expect to figure everything out in your grade 12 year. You will encounter obstacles along the way which will detour your trajectory in life, but trust that whichever path you are meant to follow is the right road for you."
MRS. PEZZETTA
Mrs. Pezzetta went to a very tight-knit high school with a rough population of about 400 students. Due to the small population, everyone had developed a close friendship amongst each other. At the time, Grade 13 still existed and she had a positive attitude about it as she felt that it was a great chance to explore, grow, and mature before heading to post-secondary.
She had no issues with any of her teachers, but she felt that her Phys Ed teacher helped her out the most. They were her coach and, overall, someone she could talk to when she needed it. They gave her a lot of moral support and were very encouraging and engaging.
Mrs. Pezzetta was romantically interested in the same guy for three years in high school. He was a year younger than her and they were close friends at the time.
She was heavily involved in the school community. She was on the music council, every female sports team, the yearbook team, student council, and various other clubs. Additionally, Mrs. Pezzetta also won many awards for both academics and athletics.
“I don’t know how I did it in high school. You [current students] definitely have different pressures that I never had,” Mrs. Pezzetta says.
ADVICE: “The best thing you can do is make a connection with teachers - it can carry you far.”
Hopefully, you’re able to take in their advice and experiences as guidance for your own high school journey. Don’t be afraid to seek help from any of your teachers for anything — there’s a high chance they went through it as well!

@craftygamerkm1714 tagged me in a tag game thing!!! Here’s some answers!!
1 Are you named after anyone?
Oh this is a REALLY good question. I don’t think so. I think my parents just picked out a name they liked the sound of. (Which I’m glad for. I don’t need to carry on someone else’s legacy.)
2 When was the last time you cried?
Last night because I was listening to this woman tell a beautiful story and it-it just GOT me okay? (which is impressive, I don’t think I’ve cried from a story since Addie LaRue was early released for book of the month) also whenever I read Song of Achilles I cried for the last 16 pages.)
3 Do you have kids?
No. And I don’t know if I ever will. Part of me wants to be a mom so bad but also… I don’t think I have the patience and I think that’s very grown up of me to realize and not sad at all!
4 Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Every word out of my mouth
5 What’s the first thing you notice about people?
If they look upset or not. I’m not judging anyone, I’m just shy and debating how to interact with people.
6 What’s your eye color?
Eye color is the color of someone’s irises! They come in a variety of colors ranging from light to dark. Hell maybe some people have no eye color at all. (Remember that sarcasm question?) That would be very badass of them.
7 Scary movies or happy endings?
I was gonna make up like a super high stakes “I would rather do x,y,z than watch a scary movie!!” But then I decided that was untrue and I don’t want to jinx myself. (The intrusive thoughts started getting me on this one LMAO). Happy endings, when done right, are very nice.
8 Special talents?
I pick up on things really fast (as long as I’m not anxious or being pressured! Or bored.) I’m just a quick learner so long as I’m interested.
9 Where were you born?
In a hospital. Probably in an operating room of some sort.
10 What are your hobbies?
I’ve been trying to figure this one out lately. Outside of ESO and reading I don’t do much. I do Like tarot cards, there are some really fun editions out there. And I can’t say any of these things to people I’ve just met! I need more things to do.
11 Do you have any pets?
On Elder Scrolls I have so many pets that my little sibling heard me talking about getting the free Gallen Wisp or whatever it’s called and shouted “I don’t think you need any more pets.” Which is blatantly untrue. I will not rest until I’ve collected every pet in that damn game. My favorite is the wicker fright banekin (but don’t tell the other pets I said that!)
12 What sports do you/have you played?
I was gonna make another joke and say something like “exercise is for the weak!” But that is like the opposite of true so I’ll answer this one. When I was in preschool I “played” soccer. But the coach was mean and I was like four, so I refused to go to the practice sessions or play in the games. I wanted to do volleyball in high school, but I didn’t want people to look at me (being a high schooler and all!) so I didn’t do that either. And I don’t really regret either of those decisions.
13 How tall are you?
Taller than the tallest mountain peak. I’m so tall that I wear clouds as hats. My goal in life is to always be admired for my pure and authentic height. (Tall for a woman but I will not be sharing anything too identifying on my social media account where I write about video game vampires, Hahaha!)
14 Favorite subject in school?
I’m sure this will come as a surprise, but anything that involved writing! It took less effort than math, and science class has always been hard for me. History was fine, but it had gotten repetitive by high school. I was almost always excited for Language Arts/Reading class. Or any time we got to use class time in the library.
15 Dream job?
Something that’s partially remote. I wouldn’t mind working from home two or three days out of the week and going in only once or twice. I need something that gets me out of the house, but I’m a major homebody with anxiety so… I need to spend time in my room to recuperate. Also important would be something where people won’t yell at me.
I’m tagging @simping-master-69 and
@i-simp-for-fennorian !!!

Understanding JEE Main vs. JEE Advanced: Key Differences and Preparation Tips
Tumblr media
Introduction
Preparing for engineering entrance exams in India means tackling the JEE, which includes two exams: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Both are necessary for getting into top engineering colleges like the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). However, JEE Main and JEE Advanced have significant differences, including difficulty level, structure, and purpose. Knowing these differences and how to prepare for each exam can help you feel confident on your journey to becoming an engineer. Many students seek guidance from the best coaching for JEE in Karnataka to ensure they are well-prepared for both exams. Let’s break down the main differences between these two exams and explore some helpful preparation strategies.
What is JEE Main?
JEE Main is the first exam you need to take if you’re aiming to attend engineering colleges in India. It’s organised by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and happens twice a year, typically in January and April. This allows students to try improving their scores if needed. JEE Main covers topics from the 11th and 12th-grade Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics syllabus, making it mainly about fundamental concepts.
The JEE Main exam serves two purposes. First, it’s the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which is necessary for students aiming to study at IITs. Second, it’s the gateway to NITs, IIITs, and other government-funded engineering colleges. If you’re interested in IITs, you must pass JEE Main and meet the cut-off score to qualify for JEE Advanced.
Key Points of JEE Main
Exam Pattern and Structure: JEE Main consists of two papers. Paper 1 is for engineering aspirants, and it’s a computer-based test with multiple-choice and numerical questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Math. Paper 2 is for students interested in architecture and planning courses.
Syllabus: The topics are drawn from the Class 11 and 12 (CBSE) curriculum. The questions may be tricky, but they mostly focus on testing your grasp of basic concepts.
Scoring and Eligibility: Your score in JEE Main is important because it determines whether you qualify for JEE Advanced. Top scores can also lead to a good All India Rank (AIR), used by NITs and IIITs in their admission process.
What is JEE Advanced?
JEE Advanced is the next level for students aiming to get into IITs. It’s organised by the IITs themselves on a rotating basis, and it’s known to be significantly more challenging than JEE Main. Only students who achieve the required cut-off score in JEE Main are eligible to take JEE Advanced.
While JEE Main focuses on foundational knowledge, JEE Advanced tests your problem-solving skills at a much deeper level. It requires students to combine multiple concepts to solve complex questions, so a solid understanding and an ability to think critically are essential for success.
Key Points of JEE Advanced
Exam Pattern and Structure: JEE Advanced has two papers, both of which are compulsory. Each paper is three hours long and contains multiple-choice questions, numerical value questions, and other question types. The pattern and marking scheme can vary, with different types of questions in each section and sometimes negative marking.
Syllabus: The JEE Advanced syllabus is based on the same Class 11 and 12 material but goes deeper into each topic. The questions are designed to be more analytical and often combine multiple topics in a single question.
Selection Process: Unlike JEE Main, JEE Advanced ranks students based on their aggregate marks across both papers. Only a limited number of seats are available in IITs, making the competition for each seat intense.
Key Differences Between JEE Main and JEE Advanced
Purpose: JEE Main is required for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other government institutions, while JEE Advanced is only for admission to IITs.
Difficulty Level: JEE Main is generally considered easier and focuses on basic applications of concepts. In contrast, JEE Advanced is known for its tough, complex questions that test problem-solving skills.
Structure: JEE Main has a consistent exam pattern, whereas JEE Advanced changes its structure every year, making it less predictable.
Preparation Tips for JEE Main and JEE Advanced
To prepare for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced, a balanced approach is essential, as the exams focus on different skill sets. Here are some practical tips:
Build Strong Fundamentals: Since JEE Main tests basic concepts, make sure you have a clear understanding of foundational topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Math. This knowledge will also help you tackle more advanced questions in JEE Advanced. Many students choose the best coaching for JEE in Bangalore to get expert guidance in these subjects.
Practice with Mock Tests: Taking timed mock tests regularly helps you get used to the actual exam environment, improves your time management skills, and helps you identify areas where you need improvement.
Deepen Conceptual Knowledge: JEE Advanced is more analytical, so practice questions that combine multiple concepts. This helps you develop a problem-solving approach essential for Advanced-level questions.
Select Quality Study Material: Use study materials that explain concepts clearly and are well-aligned with the JEE syllabus. Resources like NCERT books, reputable reference books, and study materials provided by the best coaching for JEE in Karnataka can be valuable for in-depth preparation.
Consider Coaching for Guidance: A structured coaching program can offer personalised guidance, study resources, and a routine to keep you on track. Online JEE coaching in Bengaluru has become popular for providing flexible, quality instruction that allows students to learn from home.
Focus on Time Management: JEE exams are lengthy, so practising with time constraints is crucial. Taking timed practice tests will improve your speed, accuracy, and ability to manage stress.
Regular Revision: Schedule time for regular revision to ensure you retain critical formulas, concepts, and shortcuts. This will keep information fresh and help you perform well on test day.
Take Care of Your Health: Staying physically and mentally fit is essential for optimal performance. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and short breaks during study sessions can prevent burnout and improve focus.
Conclusion
The path to cracking JEE Main and JEE Advanced can be challenging, but understanding the differences between the exams and preparing accordingly can increase your chances of success. JEE Main is a foundation that tests basic knowledge, while JEE Advanced requires advanced problem-solving skills. With the right strategies and support—whether through coaching, quality study material, or online resources like Online JEE coaching in Bengaluru—you can confidently tackle both exams and maximise your potential.
By staying disciplined, practising consistently, and focusing on understanding rather than rote learning, students can set themselves up for success in both JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Good luck on your journey!
FAQs: Understanding JEE Main vs. JEE Advanced: Key Differences and Preparation Strategies
What is the main difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced?JEE Main is the first level of the Joint Entrance Examination and primarily tests fundamental knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, and Math. It serves as both a gateway to NITs, IIITs, and other government-funded engineering colleges and a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which is required for admission to IITs. JEE Advanced is more difficult, with complex, analytical questions that test deeper problem-solving skills.

I will break my own rules and write about my life this time around.
I grew up in a household that made Downton Abbey look like a docuseries.
We had Matriarchy for breakfast every day and repeated the menu every evening for supper.
That matriarch, my grandmother, who was more conservative than Queen Victoria herself, and my grandfather, who for the sake of this story I'll call Bambi, raised me because my parents traveled the world for work. We all lived in the same house, my grandparents, my parents, and I (and all my pets). My aunt and uncle, a childless couple, also raised me when my parents weren't around, which was often. We all lived in the same neighborhood, literally across the street from each other so I was used to spending the night at their place more often than not. They let me listen to my music at 11.
This arrangement entailed Queen Victoria to make decisions about my education, my clothes, my everything. My parents approved of whatever she decided because since they were not there, is not like they had much of a say. She was the one putting in all the work and they respected that.
She decided to send me to a Catholic school because I was a "wild child and that'll straighten me up". My parents accepted this even though they are not the religious type at all and they were a "religiously mixed" couple. My mom wasn't too happy about it because she knew her daughter. I am not religious either because up until then they were raising me as a free agent for me to decide WTF I wanted to do religion-wise as an adult when I was old enough to have an independent say about it (Queen Victoria fucking hated this free-style approach). I never was into ANY religion, I'm still not actually, and even at 7 years old this was painfully obvious to anyone with a pair of functioning eyes and a brain, so they literally had to drag me to school every single day. D.R.A.M.A.
I sawm, and in order to skip school in a legit way as much as possible, I swam my ass off. I trained 8 hours a day, and on weekends too, and I won every race possible for my age. I lost only one, and I still remember it. I was offered to skip categories forward (only for training purposes), which I did for a while because according to my coach and my mother, my category wasn't challenging enough and I was pissing off the other kids.
I also focused on other sports to avoid school: Skating and martial arts. I had a new "passion" every two or three months. Then, everything turned boring and annoying, except horse jumping. I still ride now and then. I no longer own a horse though, but I still remember my childhood memories that involve horses very fondly. I felt free when I was horse riding. So free! It was a rarity in my highly controlled life. Everything was on schedule, everything was strict, everything was BORING. Even swimming, which I loved, turned into an obligation I had to show up for every day and perform at. No challenge, just getting the job done, improving my time, and going home. I didn't even keep the medals and trophies, most of them were thrown in the trunk of the car and I never saw them again, they kept piling up there till my parents/aunt/grandparents put them in boxes and stored them IDK where. I couldn't care less. BORING. All of this while keeping straight As and Bs, (except in math and crafts - btw failing in crafts class at a nun school is considered borderline heretic LOL!-) never submitting a fucking assignment on time, and getting called to the Mother Superior's office biweekly pretty much. She always threatened to expel me but it took her years to fulfill her threat. Go figure!
Then, one day a miracle happened. I was finally expelled. Dog works in mysterious ways.
That was the beginning of the rest of my life.
But first, let me rewind a bit. I'm neurodivergent. At the young age of 4 or 5, I was diagnosed with a bunch of neurodivergencies. 3 to be precise. I will not list them here, doesn't matter. I am not my diagnosis. The point I'm trying to make is, my therapist, the coolest guy I had ever met up until that point of my life, and looking back, probably the reason why I became a therapist myself decades later, recommended my parents to have me switch schools because at the time I was going to this pre-K school that was not appropriate for me at all, it was actually detrimental. This was the 90s, if you think mental health literacy is fucked up now, try the 90s. He also recommended meds, but my mother was absolutely against medicating me at such a young age. And eventually, instead of following his professional advice, so she followed Queen Victoria's advice and sent me to the equivalent of military school, to teach me discipline. Apparently, it wasn't enough that I had been swimming since before I could walk, so the discipline the water sport instilled in me was not enough, I still needed to be even more "disciplined" and that was it. What the Therapist said didn't matter. The fact that my school and underprepared teachers were literally fucking with my mind and therefore causing all kinds of behavioral issues, did not matter. Of course, my own opinion didn't matter either at such a young age (but I still had it, believe me, I was always this opinionated). Did I mention my therapist was a scholar and he was one of the first experts in neurodivergencies worldwide back then when no one talked about it? He was a renowned published author, etc... Well, my mom and grandma thought they knew better than him. The former, a journalist and editor, and the latter, a retired haute couture dressmaker. My father, a businessman, only wrote checks to pay for whatever the ladies decided to do with my education and life. Money was is his love language (not complaining, it served me well for years before I had a career of my own, but still). In their defense, the kind of school that had the appropriate special education program I required and that my therapist recommended for me, didn't exist in my hometown. The closest one was in another state altogether.
Anywho... That's how I ended up in the nun prison that was just a 5-minute drive from home, a former convent. Until I got myself expelled from it, that is, for calling the Mother Superior names. Several names. In front of the entire school, as I broke free from her claw that was leaving marks in my arm.
Turned out I wasn't just breaking free from her filthy claws, I was also breaking free from that all-girls school from hell. But I didn't know that at the time.
We had only 1 month to go to finish the school year, so getting expelled at that point meant repeating the grade. I was supposed to start HS the next year, but this meant I wasn't going to be able to because no school was going to accept enrolling me for just 1 month.
So the next day, I don't know what my father did while my mom cried in the principal's office begging for mercy, but I was allowed to finish the school year in that concrete hell hole as long as I didn't come back the next year. I was "forced" by the Mother Superior to complete my HS studies elsewhere. I was flying, on cloud #9, I was living the dream! My parents accepted the deal and next thing I knew I was starting school in a different state, only supposed to attend school 4 days a week because I was part of the swimming team, and this beautiful place was non-denominational, co-educational, had an AMAZING and very comprehensive art program, sports programs, foreign language programs, yes plural, etc. I traveled back and forth weekly and abroad annually because of different exchange programs that were mandatory, plus I also had to compete abroad so I was basically obliged to skip school. As I said, I was living the dream. I trained every single day of my life, I kept my straight As (without even trying), and even improved my math skills to the point I wasn't an A student in that particular subject but I was no longer failing at it either and I even submitted my assignments right on time, actually early sometimes, a lot of times. I was a different person. Turns out my mother was right, I didn't need meds. I just needed to have fun. I needed the proper stimuli and environment and I got it after getting expelled from the school I had always told her I didn't wanna attend to, which means that I was right too. (And that Queen Victoria was disgustingly wrong). No shade though, she eventually admitted it and I forgave her. She didn't know better. I did. And my therapist, but whatevs…
After that, I traveled the world for years because my last exchange program in HS was in New Zeland and I fell in love with a Kiwi guy, so I returned to the island as soon as I could and took a sabbatical after graduating from HS that turned into this Work & Travel 2 year experience and that led me to Asia because that's when I discovered that I am a foody and I just couldn't miss out on the Asian flavors. After Asia I had to come back home and I started working on my loooong list of academic endeavors that I dropped out of in a couple of years’ time. But I did manage to graduate several nonetheless -in between trips and studying abroad to be able to accommodate my crazy work schedule.- I didn't swim anymore. I was dry. I hated every single one of the degrees I got. Till I made a change of regime and became what I now am. I trained for years all around the world and worked with the best, only to find out that what I wanted to do was leave it all behind and work from home, sometimes in PJs. I also found out corporative was not my cup of tea after a decade of sharing workspaces with people I despised but at the same time admired. I worked mostly in Europe for years and got to travel the world with a corporate credit card, so I put up with it but my heart wasn't in it. Only my bank account was. The truth was I wasn't helping anyone, I was fighting addictions and I was winning at it on the outside but feeling empty on the inside. When I say I wasn't helping anyone, that includes myself. Till I became a therapist, which I didn't consciously decide to do as a change of careers or anything... I just went through the motions at first and then it all got soooo easy, but not boring/unchallenging easy, rather so effortless, so smooth easy, and I was getting the best feedback in the world, not from the CEOs anymore, but from my patients, the people that truly mattered to me. I was helping them and could see the changes, I was front and center, seeing them improve weekly. I got a Master's degree only to find out I just wanted to leave it all behind and hit the road again. So I did. I continued down this line of business for a few more years trying different layouts, and now I am a therapist of therapists. I work full-time for corporate Silicon Valley as a profiler and OM and part-time for my clients in my private practice. I also manage to give back by doing some free-lancing on the side for multiple agencies that provide services for different NGOs and State Agencies that assist low-income immigrants. I work long hours, yes. Sometimes I only sleep 6 hours or less. But who cares?! I'm the happiest I have ever been because I learned the hardest lesson I ever had to learn: PRESERVE MY FREEDOM ABOVE ALL ELSE.
Freedom is power.
Power is not necessarily freedom, though. That's the trap.
I respect freedom to a fault above all else because it's the highest-valued commodity. Mine and everyone else's.
I don't respect those who do not respect what I cherish the most. What I had to work the hardest for, my entire life. No way!
IMO freedom is the key to everything else in life.
This may not be the lesson others have to learn, granted, BUT the world would be a much better place if we all did. That's for sure.
That being said, freedom is too much for some to handle, I give you that.
