MALIGNED YURI BRACKET: Round two
How is Mari Maya/Moe Morita (Samurai Flamenco) maligned?
"they get overshadowed by a gay proposal :(" "the protag and his male bestie...are in this canon limbo...so as you can imagine SO much of the fandom discourse is an attempt to prove that they are, in fact, canon...MEANWHILE. THE TRITAGONIST. THIRD MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTER. IS CANONICALLY BISEXUAL. SHE CANONICALLY KISSES HER NOT-GF ON SCREEN IN LIKE EPISODE 3. and people act like the only important Gay Rep Question of samflam is whether or not the main character and his bestie are canon...it feels insane to sit in fandom and see endless debates about masagoto (main men) being canon or not when maya and moe are canonically gay...WHO CARES ABOUT THOSE MEN..." "Samurai Flamenco is extremely underrated and nobody heard of them despite their ship being good and canon." "Not only is Samurai Flamenco criminally underrated and kind of a flop...Mari and Moe are often overshadowed by the big M/M ship in the series among what fans of the show do remain." "The fandom only cares about the mlm ship from the anime and praise it as canon rep even tho Moe and Mari are the ACTUAL canon rep, whereas the guys are not."
How is Minto Aizawa/Ichigo Momomiya (Tokyo Mew Mew) maligned?
"gets overshadowed by zakuro/mint (acceptable), masaya/ichigo (fine), and quiche/ichigo (ABSOLUTELY NOT. TERRIBLE)"
Read the submitter(s)'s unabridged explanations here!

2022 JGP Poland stage 1 entry #50
Junior short dance
Benkiewicz/Shapiro(HUN)
Thoughts: Do I see why Vivian is frustrated that so many Russian skaters are using Hungary as a way to get around the ban? Yes. But it’s not like Hungary is the only country that gets used like this.
Kim/Lee(KOR)
Thoughts: the way Namu’s legs move. Jinny’s gorgeous dress. These two are fabulous.
Kida/Morita(JPN)
Thoughts: Last time I saw these two, it was Nao who impressed me. This time, it was Masaya. Interesting.
Junior free dance
Benkiewicz/Shapiro(HUN)
Thoughts: what was up with Maya’s sleeves? Why do we need a different design for each sleeve?!
Kim/Lee(KOR)
Thoughts: I would love for Korea to get more into ice dance. I know these aren’t medal-worthy numbers, but these two looked dazzling.
Kida/Morita(JPN)
Thoughts: I do wonder what happened to Nao after these two split. Because it was never recorded that she retired. She’s a lovely skater.

The 2021-2022 figure skating season is officially over and I have mixed feelings about it.
I have actively gotten into watching Figure Skating this season. I accidentally saw that the European Championships were on while channel surfing and I was sucked into it. Then the 4CC came around followed by the Olympics. Oh, I knew that the season with the Olys is usually the most dramatic one, but I did not expect peak drama to be that high.
The entire season was a roller coaster - I rooted for Deniss Vasiljevs and Estonian skaters at the Euros, I rooted for the Japanese team at the 4CC and for the Team Event at the Olys, I rooted so hard for Yuzuru, Wakaba and Kaori for the single events. Then the Worlds happened and I wanted to see Shoma and Yuma on the podium as well as Kaori and Wakaba. Even though Wakaba did not medal, it was still one of the best competitions I have ever seen (I have watched previous competitions in other seasons, but never consistently).
I decided to give it a try with the Junior Worlds as well and I somehow ended up enjoying watching that competition far more than the senior ones. Less stress and drama because the skaters are still in development. It was definitely a wild ride.
I am happy that the season is over because my mental health needs a break. I'm getting ready to (hopefully) see FaOI streaming next month and get my dose of Summer Yuzuru Hanyu.
I truly hope that the next season will be much better than this one, that ISU will get its shit together (that's just wishful thinking), that the skaters will work on their weaknesses and that there will be less drama.
The teams and skaters that I ended up loving this season:
Team Japan (all skaters had my undivided attention, but Yuzuru is up there holding my heart hostage and I will forever be upset that I did not try harder to watch the Olys back in 2018)
Deniss Vasiljevs - such a great skater who values artistry and it shows - I can't wait to see how he evolves for the next season
Donovan Carrillo - this one won the hearts of everyone, I'm sure
Team Korea (Junhwan, Young, Hae-in - I had my fingers crossed so hard while watching them + Nao and Masaya, the Junior ice dancers)
Ekaterina Kurakova - such a joy to watch
Karen Chen - she deserved better
P.S. Can you tell that my favourite discipline is Men's Singles?!
