Celebration night
Okay, I finally wrote something and I actually loved how this turned out. It’s fluffy and I love it.
I hope you enjoy it and don’t forget to share it. If you want to be on the tag list let me know.
Oh and don’t forget there’s a prompt list, I’m taking requests so feel free to ask for smn.
(I know I have a couple of requests, I’m trying to work on them but I finishing uni and I’m still quite busy)
Tumblr media
After weeks of hard work, the guys finally finished recording and the new album was being well received, I’m extremely proud of them cause I’ve seen how hard they’ve worked and how much effort they put into it.
Chrissie, Brian’s girlfriend, Mary, Freddie’s girlfriend and Veronica, Deacy’s wife, and I, we decided to throw a celebration party for the guys. It wasn’t a big reunion like Freddie’s favourites, but we planned on wearing fancy dresses and a gourmet menu.
My garden was the right place to do it so we decided to decorate it with some fairy lights and roses. I love planning things with the girls because they have great taste and we have so much fun working together.
Besides, the girls were happy doing it to have a special moment with their boyfriends while I just wanted to give my best friend, Roger, a nice relaxing moment, yes, he is my best friend and I love him, as friends, do friends love each other the way I love Roger? Do friends treat each other the way Roger and I do?
The girls always tease me about dating Roger and how cowards we are and I knew the guys tease Roger too cause “He’s not brave enough to accept his feelings and confess them to me” well, I guess our friends know our feelings better than us.
However, the special night has come and the girls and I were so nervous yet so excited. The food looked delicious and a fancy restaurant had nothing on our cooking skills, cocktails were almost ready and the garden was beautifully decorated, the guys were about to arrive, so we decided to go and get ready.
If we were getting fancy food and the garden looked like it was brought out of a Disney movie, we definitely had to look like princesses. Chrissie helped me find a beautiful black dress, it was so smooth and it fitted me perfectly, my makeup was soft and barely visible but it really made me feel different.
We get ready so fast we actually thought about breaking the world record, the girls looked so pretty we almost start crying about how good we felt and how beautiful we are, and I mentally laughed about it cause if I were alone I would never feel this pretty, but the girls made me feel like that and I’m actually simpin for this confident version of me.
The doorbell rang and brought us back from our daydreaming, saying we were scared was an understatement, we were really nervous and not because of how would the boys react cause, let's be honest, we’re wearing fancy dresses and looking like proper goddesses, they’d love it, we just wanted everything to go as we planned.
As soon as we opened the door, Freddie, Brian and John came running to hug their wives while Roger was looking at me shyly.
“Hey” I said softly, trying to keep my voice as normal as possible.
“You look gorgeous” He said, not even a hello, oh well I can’t complain. “Can I hug you?”
What? My legs were shaking and I needed that hug as soon as possible, I only attempted to nod slowly.
He put his firm hands on my waist and brought me close to his body, his scent was so strong I felt I was getting high on it, and I love that feeling.
“You look great Roger” I said, hiding my face on his neck. He really did look good, an opened white shirt revealing his smooth chest and a pair of leather pants and I’ll just say… his butt looked pretty nice.
“Really? I’m just wearing the first thing I saw in my closet.” He said, trying to look as nonchalant as possible.
“That’s not true y/n, he spent hours planning his outfit.” Freddie said teasingly while winking. “He said he wanted to impress you.”
Roger was blushing and he let go from the hug.
“Oh it's alright, I hope my dress impresses him too, cause he certainly impressed me.” I said and went to the kitchen and grabbed the bottle of wine. “Want some?”
The girls were looking at me with a knowing smirk and the guys were teasing Roger while he was trying to cover up his reddened cheeks.
The rest of the guys looked really nice too, wearing their fancy suits and while a wide smile plastered on their faces.
“Before you start getting drunk, my dear y/n, we had some words prepared for you” Mary started saying, taking the bottle out of my hands.
We had some words prepared? Really?
“Yeah! Our gorgeous y/n prepared them, right?” Veronica looked at me while giggling and I couldn’t be more confused. Did I write a speech and I completely forgot about it? Roger’s giggles brought me back.
“Oh yeah right!” I said, trying to look confident “It’s quite short, though.”
“Oh stop it, y/n!” Freddie said, putting his hand on my shoulder. “Stop being so modest, you give great speeches.”
Yes! Only when I’m extremely drunk.
“Alright boys, we know you’ve worked really hard this last month and we are so proud you’re achieving your dreams.” I started saying, trying to look at each one of them but not being able, my eyes were focused on Roger and how good he looked smiling at me like that. “You are an inspiration and I’ll dare to say, you are our idols, but you are also the loves of our lives… and our best friends.” I quickly added to avoid misunderstandings, but oh how I wish I hadn’t. “You’ve given everything to us, and the least we could do was try to give you something else too, so this is just a small celebration party for you guys.”
Chrissie was pouring the wine on our glasses and we were ready for the toast.
“Now, ladies and gentlemen, raise your glasses for Queen!” I said lifting my glass happily.
As soon as the guys lifted it, I looked at Roger who was already smiling at me, I smiled back when he winked at me, oh how much I want to kiss those lips.
“Okay guys, you can get going to the garden, we’ll get the food.” Mary said while pushing Freddie out of the room, the guys followed him but Roger seemed a bit hesitant about going with them.
“Can I have a word with y/n?” He asked shyly, it’s funny how he always seemed so comfortable and confident but when it comes to me he’s so shy and soft.
“Sure Rog, just give us a second while we finish preparing the dishes.” Chrissie said and hurried working on the dish.
My stomach was feeling funny and my legs were shaking, was something wrong? Did I say something inappropriate? My mind was racing. The feeling of Mary’s hand on my shoulder scared me a bit.
“Alright Rog, she’s all yours.” Mary said, grabbing two dishes and going out of the kitchen, the girls followed her but first they winked at me.
I turned to look at Roger, he was already smiling at me. He walked to me, getting closer and closer every time he put his hand on my waist and smiled.
“Hey.” He seemed more confident than a few minutes ago but his voice was still a bit shaky.
“Hey, are you excited?” I asked hoping my voice seemed a bit normal.
“About the dinner or the album?” Geez, he looked so cute when he’s confused, he looked like a puppy.
“Both” I said laughing, I could help but caress his face, my fingers went from his forehead to his cheek and then to his hair. My fingers tangled in it and I could feel his eyes staring at my lips.
“Yeah, mostly about tonight.” He tried to stop looking at my lips, but I saw his tongue poking out of his lips and wetted them. “I wanted to thank you, and tell you how beautiful you look today.”
I could help but blush, his blue eyes were now staring at my eyes.
“Oh it’s nothing, we’re proud and you’ve done so much for us, is the least we can do.” I don’t know where this is going but I’m feeling the famous butterflies.
“Ca- Can I do something else for you?” He said putting his other hand on my cheek and rubbing it with his thumb.
Do you guys know how to breath? Because suddenly I forgot.
I nodded slowly and smiled.
“Can I kiss you?” He whispered and I felt his breath so close to my face, his scent filling my nostrils, I put my hand on his neck and smiled.
“Yes, please.”
As soon as I finished talking, Roger lips attacked mine, my body felt numb and my head was spinning, I tangled my fingers on his hair and he hugged me by the waist. My lips were trying to follow his pace, our noses were brushing each other and our chests were so close I’m sure he felt my heart beating out of my chest.
I didn’t want to break the kiss but I was nearly out of breath, my forehead was resting on his and our eyes were still closed, his hands there caressing my back. We were smiling so much our cheeks started to hurt.
“You make me so very happy.” God his voice was so soft and sweet.
“You make me really happy too, Rog” Now our noses were touching each other, his was so soft and pointy, my heart was definitely beating faster now. “Let 's go eat.”
He took my hand and led me to the garden. The guys were focused on their conversation but as soon as Brian saw us he cleared his throat, ending the conversation. They were smiling at us and the guys started whistling when they saw our hands.
Roger opened my chair and I gave him a little kiss on his lips, the girls screamed when they saw it and I started clapping.
We avoided looking at them and started drinking wine, Roger’s hand was now on my thigh tracing circles with his thumb.
“Anything you want to share with us?” Freddie said leaning on the table and placing his head on his hands.
“Well, I just want to say that I hope that kiss means you’re my girlfriend now.” He said, grabbing a piece of food on his fork and leadingit to his mouth, trying to look smooth and charming. “Oh it does, love.” He said and I brought his face close to mine and started kissing him again.
Our friends were cheering in the back and now his lips tasted like wine, I was slowly melting in his arms and I’ve never been happier.

Much Obliged (2)
Based on @bugaboo-n-bananoir‘s amazing Cowboy!Adrien and Witch!Marinette AU.
It’s important to know that almost everything is the same in this AU. I’m just changing them from superheroes to a witch and a cowboy. (A magically enhanced Cowboy, but I digress.)
Ao3
Part One
“I’m not crazy, am I Tikki?” Marinette asked.
It had been a week since school started, and every time Marinette made eye contact with the sweet Cowboy, she felt her face flush. He was just so kind, honest, and smart! Not to mention adorable!
She had collected an array of photos from his modeling career, but it almost seemed like looking at a different person without the Cowboy charm.
“Not crazy, just in love.”
“Oh please,” Marinette waved her off. “I would hardly call it love. But…I can’t stop thinking about him.”
“That’s normal. Especially when you spend 8 hours a day with him and his boots.” Tikki giggled.
“But I’ve been stuttering and stammering around him all week! He probably thinks I’m a weirdo!”
“Marinette...he thinks he’s a Cowboy.”
“What? No, he is a Cowboy. Just like I’m a witch. We went over this.”
“Okay, if you say so. If you really want to get over your stammering, you just need to talk to him. Invite him to hang out!”
“What? Like a date?”
“Not necessarily. A strong friendship is often a great place to start a relationship. Who knows, you might like him more as a friend anyway!”
Marinette put a finger to her chin. “Hmmm...I suppose so. But what would we do? I don’t know how much we have in common yet!”
“You could take him for a flight! He seemed really interested in it!”
“Hey yeah!” She looked to her window, where the full moon was shining through. “I’ll go now!”
“Now??”
“Yeah! It’ll be a surprise! And it’s a Friday night, so we don’t have school tomorrow.”
“You’ve talked me into it! Let’s go sweep that boy off his feet!”
Marinette grabbed her broomstick, which was propped up by the door to her balcony. Instead of putting on her new hat, she put on the Cowboy hat Adrien had given her.
“How do I look?” Marinette twirled.
“Mighty purdy!” Tikki giggled.
“Don’t make fun of him!”
“I’m not! I think it’s cute!”
After that, they flew together out the window.
Marinette didn’t actually know where Adrien lived, but in the era of GPS, she could look up his address for fan mail and find his house.
It was only around the corner from her! Small world!
A huge mansion, with a tall wall all the way around it, Marinette was surprised that she hadn’t guessed it first.
As she floated around the house, she found a wall of windows, the lights out inside. But there was a light on over the desk, and a boy hard at work.
The same boy she had been looking for.
He was doing his homework, likely so he could have the weekend free. His hat was on the coffee table, his boots kicked off nearby. And his flannel was untucked and unbuttoned.
A black cat sat on his lap, which he stroked absently.
Delicately, Marinette tapped on the glass.
Adrien perked up at the noise, startled. Then he turned to look at the window and his eyes lit up with joy.
He shoved the cat off his lap and went to the window.
“Well! I’ll be! A little witch has appeared at my window! To what do I owe the pleasure?”
She blushed at how happy he sounded to see her. “You sounded interested when I brought up flying the other day. The moon is beautiful out. I thought you might like to take a spin?”
“You’ve come to sweep me off my feet?” His eyes twinkled with mirth.
“That I have, buckaroo.”
He took her in. “My, you ride side saddle like a pro! But cha ain’t got no saddle!”
She giggled. “I don’t need a saddle! It’s a broom!”
“Sure you do! Every self respecting steed needs a saddle, come on in, and I’ll see what I can rustle up!”
Marinette floated through the open window and hovered over the plush carpet.
His room was huge. Her parents entire apartment could probably fit inside it. Despite Adrien’s proclivities towards the American West, the room wasn’t quite as rustic as she imagined. Though, much more rustic than any other place in Paris, she assumed. He had a rock wall, and a skateboarding ramp. And on the second story, yeah, he had a second story, there was a collection of movies.
She assumed most were westerns.
As for the decor, well...there was a mechanical bull in the corner. She also spied a genuine cattle skull and a cow skin blanket over the bed.
Wait was that a wagon wheel?
Adrien returned from the closet. “Ah ha! Here we are!” He held a thick wool blanket over his arm. “I knew my actual saddles wouldn’t fit on the stick. So let’s give this a try.”
“It really is sweet of you, Adrien. But I don’t really need it.”
“Ya sure? Don’t want cha gettin’ splinters in your cooter.”
Marinette doubled over in laughter, loosing her balance and falling off the broom, right into Adrien’s arms. She didn’t even have the mind to be embarrassed. She just hugged him and laughed harder.
Adrien laughed right along with her, wrapping his arms around her waist.
“Golly Marinette, your laughter sure is contagious!” He giggled, looking down at her.
She looked up, meeting his eyes. Her laughter faded, seeing how close he was. Their noses were almost touching.
“I-I-I couldn’t help it...you just make me laugh.”
“That’s swell!” He squeezed her and put her on her feet. “Well, I don’t want to pressure you into takin’ this if it’ll make things harder for you.”
“I’m willing to give it a try. May I?”
“Shore!” He handed the blanket over.
The broom still levitated, and Adrien watched as she wrapped the blanket around the handle once, and then draped the remaining over the edges. Then she sat down again.
“Oh! This is nice! A little more surface area to sit along with the cushion!”
“Glad I could be of some service!”
“Want to try it out?”
“You’re sure I won’t be too heavy?”
“Positive!”
A new voice spoke. “It’s powered by magic after all!” A red fairy-bug-thing flew out of her hat.
“Ah! A Flying varmit!”
“No no Adrien!” Marinette waved her arms to calm him down. “This is my familiar, Tikki. She’s the embodiment of my magic.”
Adrien rested a hand on his heart. “Beggin’ your pardon ma’am! You just spooked me!”
“Tikki has a tendency to do that.”
“Is she always with you? I ain’t never seen her before.”
“Yes, she’s usually in my purse.”
“Boy, I wish I had a constant companion. All I got is Plagg, but he’s more of a bully than a friend.”
“Plagg?” Marinette asked.
“My cat.” He pointed at the black blob that had taken up residence on his chair.
Marinette rolled up her sleeves. “I think I can help with that!” She raised her hands, as her eyes glowed blue.
Plagg flashed blue as well, but didn’t seem harmed.
He stood, stretched, and trotted over to Adrien. At his feet, the cat simply stated, “I’m hungry.”
Adrien busted a gut, laughing too hard. “I knew if you ever learned how to talk, that’d be the first thing you’d say to me!!”
“I want cheese. Camembert. Microwave it for 5 seconds.”
“Well hot damn Mari, I knew you made him smart, but did you have to make him picky too?”
“I’ve always been picky. That why you’re the only one who can pet me. And now this girl too, because she has made my demands known.”
Marinette didn’t respond. She was too busy freaking out because Adrien had called her a new nickname.
“Did you just call me Mari?”
“Oh shoot, darlin’! I’m always giving you nicknames.”
She blushed. “Well, Mari just seemed...I don’t know. Special?”
“Cause you’re a special girl! Shucks, and that’s besides your magical-ness!”
“Stop! You’re making me blush!”
“Well, I happen to think you’re mighty purdy when you blush. That’s all.”
Her face was crimson as she cupped her cheeks.
He snickered after her, his own cheeks coloring slightly. “Are you going to be good to fly? Or do you want me to take the reins?”
She elbowed him gently. “If you stop teasing me, I’ll be perfectly fine to fly.”
“Shore thing, ma’am.”
She sat down daintily, the broom moving to the perfect height automatically. “Your turn.”
“Hold on.” He grabbed his hat, and slipped on his boots. “Just in case we run out of juice.”
“Fair.” She grinned. “We won’t, but what’s a Cowboy without his hat and boots?”
He put a finger in her face and spoke sternly. “Not worth a hill of beans. You remember that.”
“Alright.” She blinked.
“Okie dokie, how do you want me to do this?”
“Can you try riding sideways like me? But have your legs over the other side to counterbalance.”
He dropped onto the broom, sliding around until he got his balance. But the handle was kind of short for two people, so he had to sidle right up to her. “This is kinda—here, is this alright?” He reached an arm around her and rested his hand in the front to brace himself up.
She blushed again. “Do you feel safe?”
“Don’t know how I couldn’t with you around, My Lady.”
She beamed at him.
“You know we Cowboy’s have a phrase—“
“You have a lot of phrases.”
“A-HEM. We have a phrase that goes, ‘Jumping the broom’.”
“What does it mean?”
“It’s another way of saying gettin’ hitched. Married.”
She snorted.
“I can’t wait to tell everyone you and I jumped the broom over the weekend.”
“They’ll probably all look at you like you’re insane.”
“Well, it’ll be our own private joke.”
“Our first inside joke! This friendship is coming along beautifully.”
“I’d say it’s a huckleberry above a persimmon!”
“I don’t know what that means, but I agree with you.” She giggled.
“It means good, no sweatin’.”
“Good! You ready?”
“Shore thing!”
“Alright, here we go!”
The broom lifted into the air, and Adrien rocked slightly, but he regained his balance quick enough. Then it took off out the window, and lifted into the sky.
“YEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAWWWW!” Adrien cried as they cleared several buildings in seconds. “Marinette, this is funner than switching your enemies piñata with a bee hive!”
She guffawed, the broom dipping slightly. “Have you done that before!?”
“No, but I assume it’d be pretty fun!”
After they did a fast lap around Paris, weaving through the Eiffel Tower, and the Arc de Triomphe, they came to a coast, just enjoying the night.
“My oh my…I could do this everyday for the rest of my life and never get tired of it.”
“I feel the same.” Marinette admitted, gazing over the city lights. “When my grandfather taught me to fly when I was little, I told myself I’d get out as much as possible. And I do. Except when it rains. It’s just no fun then.“
“Your grandpappy? Was he a witch too?”
“A sorcerer.” She replied wistfully. “Master of all schools of magic. He’s the one that taught me what I know. I have his spell book too, I’ve been trying to learn from it.”
“He’s not around no more?”
“Not in Paris.” She said fondly. “He decided to get into a school of magic that my parents weren’t comfortable with, so he went back to China.”
“What school is that?”
“Necromancy.”
He tilted his head. “Which is?”
“It has to do with the dead. Raising the dead, communing with the dead, avoiding death, and other things that fall into the category, like possession and mind control.”
“That sounds like some spooky stuff. No offense to your pappy.”
“No, I think he’d agree. I think it intrigues him. That’s why he became a Lich.”
“Lich? Is that like...a love witch?”
“No,” she giggled. “It’s a magic user that rejects death. But they lose their humanity. He’s basically a living skeleton now.”
“That’s awful!”
“It would be. But I video chatted with him a few days ago. He’s the same person, just without skin. It’s kinda funny. My dad calls him Skeletor.”
“Are your parents witches too?”
“Nope! Just me! My mom knows a few healing spells, but that’s all she ever cared about. My dad doesn’t have a magical bone in his body.”
“Wow! So you’re going at it alone now, huh?”
“Well like I said, I have my grandfather’s spellbook. But yeah, I’m my own mentor. What about you? Anyone else in your family that’s a Cowboy?”
“Not really. My uncle, my mom’s brother, he owns a cattle farm out in the country, but I wouldn’t call him a Cowboy. He taught me how to ride a horse and how to shoot a gun though.”
“So did you grow up there? Or...?”
He shrugged, timid. “Naw, I grew up here in Paris, don’t really have a rhyme or reason why I am the way I am. Just comes naturally, I reckon. In my blood or somethin’. Don’t know fer shore.” He swung his legs, swaying the broom slightly. “My old man, he doesn’t like it much. Thinks I’m actin’.”
“Well, if you say you’re a Cowboy, you’re a Cowboy. Ain’t nothin’—er, there’s nothing wrong with that.”
He smiled at her, leaning in slightly. “Say My Lady, you know any love spells?”
“Why?”
“Hmm, just wonderin’.”
“Well, I haven’t memorized any, but I know there’s some in my book.”
“You know, I was thinkin’ ‘bout it...maybe it’s none my business. But, on the first day of school, Chloe said you were pretending to be a witch and even Niño—“
“Nino.”
“That’s what I said. Even he said you were just good at slight of hand. Why don’t they believe you?”
Marinette sighed, allowing the broom to coast over the Seine. They floated just above the water, which was still in the evening.
“I’ve gotten better as I’ve gotten older. But when I first learned a spell, I was so excited to show my classmates. It was really easy, just snap your fingers to get a little flame.” She snapped, demonstrating the spell.
Adrien’s eyes lit up with excitement.
“When I got to school, I gathered everyone together, and when I went to perform...I couldn’t. Too many eyes. Chloe ridiculed me. While everyone else has let it go, she likes to torment me about it all the time. I think I encourage her by perpetuating witch stereotypes. No matter how hard I try, I can’t perform magic around our classmates.”
“Oh golly gee, My heart breaks for you darlin. But it’s mighty brave of you to continue studying even though you were hurt so badly. Takes real guts, honest!”
“Thanks Adrien. I think you’re pretty brave too.”
“Why ya know, I bet I could help you out yer magical constipation!”
“How do you figure?”
“I’m thinking perhaps if we plan it right, and I’m there with you, you might get the confidence you need to wow them school kids! What sorts’a spells you know?”
She laughed. “Oh my gosh! I don’t know any good spells that would work! I know plenty of slight of hand tricks, minor hexes and illusions. But my show stoppers are all dangerous, like lightning bolts or fireballs.”
“Whyja learn stuff like that?”
“I thought it would be fun?” She said, nervously.
“Well, I’m sure we could come up with something. Don’t you worry, Darlin.”
“Well, thank you Adrien! I think that’s—“
She was interrupted, however, by a figure in black, rocketing across the ground. It moved faster than any vehicle should in the city.
“What in tarnation is that?!”

Problematic Movies of the '80s | Weird Science (1985)
By Don Hall
It’s interesting that statistics show that kids today aren’t having as much sex as we did “back in my day.” When I was a teenager, I was constantly overwhelmed by the Constant Boner of Young Adulthood. I thought about girls and tits and sex almost to a degree one could call mentally unstable. I was not alone. Most kids in the ’80s were consumed by sex. As an act, as a conquest, as a reward. Somewhere along the line (Hey! Let’s blame technology on the decline in teenage libido!) dudes were more consumed with winning at Fortnite than mastering the Art of the Seduction.
Maybe it’s the far more complicated sexual landscape we face today and all the work required just to let someone know you want to fuck (because that is pervy and rapey and to indicate that you are not primarily interested in someone’s opinion or state of mind or hopes and dreams is to proliferate the culture of objectification and, if I had all of that in my 14-year-old brain, I might’ve decided it wasn’t worth the effort as well…)
No, today, sex has to be the last thing on your mind if you ever hope to have it. Not so in 1985. In 1985, there was a horny, stupid ideal of the perfect woman and the movie Weird Science exemplified it. Given today’s sex robots and unlimited free porn, I’d say we haven’t gone too far away from the concept — using technology to manufacture the sexual partner who does not question, holds no complications, and is universally desired is a booming industry.
What I remember about Weird Science is Bill Paxton as the hysterical bullying Chet, the song, and Kelly LaBrock. While LaBrock wasn’t really my type she was definitely hot. No question.
This is also a John Hughes film. Certainly a fan of The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, I was a far bigger fan of Weird Science. Perhaps it was that I identified more with the two nerds with no game than I did with any of the characters in most of Hughes’ films. Perhaps it was the idea of creating a woman who liked me no matter what my flaws had been. It may have to do with the fact that most of Hughes’ protagonists come from wealthy families from the Northshore of Chicago and these two idiots somehow felt less so (despite the million-dollar home Wyatt’s parents own).
In terms of Hughes’ movies and the concept of problematic moments, the dude got it wrong a lot. From Long Duck Dong in Sixteen Candles to Judd Nelson peeking up Molly Ringwald’s skirt and still ending up being her best choice for mating material in The Breakfast Club, Johnny Boy taught the young lads of the ’80s a host of bad lessons whilst cracking us up.
Weird Science Written and Directed by John Hughes 1985
In my experience, there are very few actors who, with their very presence, can sum up an entire archetype without actually doing anything. Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Judi Dench, John Candy. And Anthony Michael Hall. From the second you see he and Ilan Mitchell-Smith in their high school gym shorts standing, watching girls do gymnastics, Hall exudes the very essence of the high school geek. All legs and awkwardness, his mouth hung slightly open most of the time. His is the picture next to the dictionary definition.
Weird Science banks on this as he and Mitchell-Smith enact Hughes’ ’80s high school version of Frankenstein/Mary Poppins. The two boys, Gary and Wyatt, are all desire and disappointment as, on a sleepover watching a colorized version of Frankenstein on TV, Gary gets the idea to create the perfect woman via dial up modem computer. They need “more power” so Wyatt hacks into what appears to be the Pentagon’s servers and this juices up things so that electrical magic happens and Lisa (Kelly LaBrock) appears in sports panties and half shirt amidst the chaos.
“So. What would you little maniacs like to do first?” she purrs.
Lisa takes them on a magic carpet ride to a blues bar on the Southside of Chicago, the mall, and ultimately throws a party at Wyatt’s parents’ house (these kids come from very well-off families!) that includes hundreds of teenagers, a young Robert Downey Jr. as a bully, a nuclear missile and the Australian bad-guy from the original Mad Max. No, this doesn’t even have to pretend to be rooted in the real Evanstonian world of his previous films. This one is pure fantasy.
In the end, as all Mary Poppins-inspired tales must, the boys have gained confidence in themselves (and girlfriends!) and Lisa moves on to coach scores of idiots in exactly the same manner because that’s all that incels need, a hot super model with magic powers to guide them.
Problematic moments & themes
While I’m uncertain that Gary and Wyatt learn to not fetishize and objectify women (let alone create one using 1980s Max Headroom graphics) the fact that Lisa is imbued with genius level intellect — I mean, they scanned in a picture of Einstein when building her! — and is in control of everything from the moment she appears. In terms of agency, she never relents an iota of it throughout. She takes no shit from anyone.
Sure, she begins the process of having sex with 15-year-old Wyatt but we immediately find out that he passed out and no sex was had. Lisa, despite being the Frankenstein’s Monster, is completely in charge and badass. In essence, the boys really did create the perfect woman — beautiful, confident, intelligent and no one’s object.
Chet (Bill Paxton) is problematic in that he loves to throw the word “faggot” around but he ultimately gets owned and punished for being such a turd, if not specifically for being a raging homophobe.
Fortunately, Hughes hires a whole room full of black actors for Weird Science. Unfortunately, they all play characters named Bar Patron, Guy at Table and Bartender.
The scene in the blues bar is funny in that fish-out-of-water sort of way and the black men are never treated as anything but masters of their domain. If Gary hadn’t gotten drunk and then done a skinny white kid’s version of a pimp-hat wearing black caricature for far too long, it wouldn’t even raise a flag on the play. Admittedly, I found his cartoonish impression of a black man to be pretty offensive. All he needed was some blackface makeup and he’d be Kingfish from Amos and Andy.
Did it hold up?
Weird Science is problematic but not for the reasons I thought it would be. In the lens of 2018, the feminist perspective is strong given that the initial impulse to create is small and objectifying but the creation herself is an ideal of feminine strength and power. The blues bar is pretty rough when we add the kaleidoscope of diversity on top.
Given that Hughes wrote the screenplay in two days, it’s amazing it isn’t far more troubling and, more importantly, the movie is still funny. The avatar of uncool that was Anthony Michael Hall in his teenage heyday steeps this goofy ass Frankenstein story with too many hysterical throwaways and moments at the expense of the rich, white kid to completely dismiss this as crap.
And the Thomas Dolby title song is pure pop culture genius, as sticky and memorable as almost any movie song ever written.
Overall
Scale of 1 to 10 1 = Classic 10 = Burn all VHS copies of it
Weird Science gets a 4
Next Up: Earth Girls Are Easy (1988)

Australian Open 2021 - Day 1
Sunday, Feb 7 - Sunday Feb 21
This is my first attempt at recording my impressions while watching a major tennis tournament. I am watching from my home in Pleasantville, NY via the YouTube TV app on my Playstation 4. This is the 3rd tennis major since my father passed away in August 2020. I’m considering turning the finished product in to a book. I can imagine creating short books for every major sporting event I watch. It’s just an idea, but one which interests me today.
Monday, Feb 8
I’m not watching any of the first day live since Super Bowl 55 was last night. The Bucs beat Kansas City convincingly behind Brady and a strong performance from their defense. I begin the tournament on Monday morning.
It’s in the mid-60s in Melbourne, unseasonably cool for this time of year. The tournament is being broadcast on ESPN and much of the talk revolves around the complicated logistics of holding a tournament in a country that has practically eradicated Covid-19 and wants to keep it in check. The run up to the tournament was dominated by headlines about players being confined to their hotel rooms for 19 hours a day; potentially more in the case of those who flew on the same planes as players who were quarantined. Meanwhile, outrage at the preferential treatment given to star players by Tennis Australia has also made waves, with players such as Tennys Sandgren publicly airing grievances. Top players were allowed more members in their parties. They stayed at different hotels and had more expansive access to practice facilities. Patrick McEnroe and Mary Joe Fernandez are the initial commentary team. They are happy to have a crowd back in the seats, but to my eye the number of attendees is rather meager. 30,000 people are being admitted each day, but they are split into 3 sections and not allowed to go to other areas of the ground.  They claim that Rod Laver arena will be about half full for the final. Another wrinkle is the introduction of a fully automatic line-calling system. One of the strangest aspects is that players still have the ability to challenge calls, but since the same system that provides the challenge replays makes the call in the first place, they have no chance to actually win the challenge. The challenge now feels like something vestigial whose purpose has shifted from practical to therapeutic, allowing players to see the call in more detail without any ability to alter it. When a ball was close to the line, either in or out, they will put a little alert up that says “close call”. It’s strange, but the commentators seem to think that this system takes a bit of pressure off the players since they don’t have to be so focused on spotting close calls for themselves and knowing when to challenge. Another interesting detail about the line calling system is that they’ve programmed it to make calls with the voices of first responders from Australia. Masks are not required for fans in the stands. Some are wearing them, but others are not. Apparently, you are supposed to wear them when moving around the grounds. A lot of talk about how things are ostensibly normal, and yet there are these strange restrictions on this tournament. Seems like the restrictions might be more for appearances than anything else. Guess you would have to know what kind of big local events (concerts, sporting events) are being held and what conditions are like at those.
An interesting aside came from Chrissy when she discussed players warm-up routines. The players put in 30 minutes to an hour of hard cardio and strength training. Chrissy joked that the exercise they get just in warm-ups is what she used to get in a match. The courts are apparently playing a little bit quicker this year, even in the cool conditions. Apparently Tennis Australia used a different company to lay the surface of the courts this year and the quicker bounce was something that they had specifically in mind. The reason for the speed up has to do with there now being less sand/grit on the top of the surface than years past. They’re also using different balls this year after a lot of complaints last year that the balls were fluffing up. Also had a couple of matches on Margaret Court arena disrupted by birds.
Tumblr media
The broadcast begins with Osaka vs Pavlyuchenkova. Osaka is wearing a bright orange skirt with a black top and leggings, decorated with a blue, tan, and black camouflage pattern. Osaka pulled out of warmup tournament in semifinals with a shoulder “niggle”. She looks calm and balanced, hitting the ball deep into the court and attacking the corners off of short balls. The days of the inconsistent Osaka that followed her first 2 majors seem long behind us. Pavlyuchenkova looked uncomfortable with Osaka’s power early in the match. She did respond in the second set, imposing her will to a greater degree. However, it was clear that she was pressing to go for more to get ahead in points. Every time she made inroads Osaka countered with dazzling play. Osaka’s only weakness appears to be her approach to net, which doesn’t quite look smooth. She runs around balls to hit her two handed backhand which appears to be her more comfortable shot. Osaka wins 6-1 6-2 in just over an hour.
Tumblr media
Simultaneously, V. Williams vs Flipkens were locked in a tight veteran battle. Venus, now 40 years old was wearing an aqua colored dress and a white tennis cap. Her hair is shorter than I’ve ever seen it. She’s always had a tendency to look a bit gangly and off balance, but there is still some of the smooth grace she used to display. Venus didn’t win a single set in a major played in 2020, but she took the first set in a back and forth afair here. Flipkens, a 35 year old Belgian who wears sporty glasses and plays without a coach. She doesn’t give Venus a lot of pace and is looking to attack short balls and second serves with her forehand. The match was not without drama. Flipkens was able to make her uncomfortable with slice and did a good job anticipating her shots. That being said, Venus’s power ultimately carried her through. 7-5 6-2 in around 90 minutes.
Tumblr media
The next match featured S. Williams vs Siegemund. This is Serena’s 11th attempt to win her 24th career major. She’s wearing a pink, red, and black patterned body suit, not entirely dissimilar to the catsuit she word in Paris two year ago. Her left leg is entirely exposed, whereas her right leg is covered. She looks like she could be attending an aerobics class in the 80s. Siegemund, the 31 year old German, is a quality player, and like Pavlyuchnkova has been given an unfortunate draw. She likes to take the ball early and slice off the forehand. Serena was broken on her first service game, but quickly recovered. She has the easy power working today and looks to be rolling. Chrissy and Renee agree that Serena looks calm and in control; a good sign for her. Another talking point for Chrissy is Serena’s movement, which she thinks looks better than it has in years, especially charging to nets after drop shots. Siegemund never looked comfortable, especially dealing with Serena’s returns of her soft serves. 6-1 6-1. Apparently Serena is a big Tom Brady fan. I know she lives in Florida. Their were jokes about their ages in the post-match interview.
Tumblr media
B. Pera vs Kerber has started 5-0 for Pera. She’s an American citizen born in Croatia who I’ve never seen before. She’s tall, but not too tall. Seems to have strong legs. Hits good flat ground strokes. The forehand is powerful although can go off at times. Kerber, now 33, hasn’t played well in a while. Her best showing at a major last year was the 4th round. Pera did show some nerves, letting Kerber back into the match, but Kerber couldn’t recover from losing the first 9 games of the match. She just doesn’t have an offensive weapon. And although she can come up with amazing shots when she’s on her heels, she just doesn’t do it consistently enough to win matches at a high level any more. Bernarda Pera is certainly one to watch for the future. 6-0 6-4 in just over an hour.
Monfils and Milan both out in a couple of first round five-setters to unknowns. Gael was holding back tears in an emotional post-match press conference.
The next big match on Laver was Thiem vs Kukushkin. We joined it at 5-5 in the first set just in time to see Them broken by the krafty veteran from Kazakstan. Thiem dug in, playing some long rallies with his slice backhand before asserting himself with some big shots. Grueling and gritty first set won by Them is a pretty comfortable tiebreak. Interesting Kukushkin fact, his wife is actually his coach. Apparently she went to school to be a coach, giving her a lot more training to do this than most of the coaches who are just former players. I wonder what you learn at coaching school. A comical moment occurred when it turned out that the woman in Kukushkin was not actually his wife/coach. In fact,  Kukushkin and her apparently split and McEnroe read a note on air from Kukushkin saying that he way annoyed that commentators kept mixing up his new girlfriend with his ex wife. They also told a story about Kukushkin who, growing up in Russia, used to play in an empty swimming pool, as well as on wood courts at a nearby prison, by necessity. Apparently wood courts really used be a thing. Jason Goodall said he played on them in england. Kukushkin is hitting it big off his forehand, as big as Thiem, but it just isn’t enough.  Thiem wore Kukushkin down throughout the match. 7-6 6-2 6-3
Tumblr media
We went over to Zverev vs Giron. Zverev, in a sleeveless tank top looks like he’s read for the beach. Giron is an American who played college tennis at UCLA. He’s broken through in the last 18 months. I think I’ve seen him once before. McEnroe says he’s a counter-puncher with a “clean” backhand. Not that big and no big weapon, but seems to be rounding into form. Giron moves very well and is able to time his contact with ball in a way that makes him dangerous on a faster court. Zverev was swinging hard in the first set but making way too many errors. Giron got up big in the 1st set tiebreaker but then tightened up. He failed to convert 4 set point chances as Zverev got more conservative and played rock solid. However, on the fifth one, Giron pulled out the set when Zverev couldn’t do enough with his shots. The 2nd serve continues to be a problem for Zverev. He lets Giron back into the 2nd set. Zverev oscillates between being aggressive and dictating points and then falling back and being too passive, especially in tense moments. He almost let the 2nd set tiebreak get away, but pulled it out on his 3rd set point. Zverev was dialed in from the 3rd set on and Giron went away. 6-7 7-6 6-3 6-2
Tumblr media
Taylor Fritz, the only seeded American man pulled out a 4 set win against Ramos-Vinolas. 7-6 3-6 6-2 7-6
Bianca Andrescu returned to women’s tennis with a 3 set win over the Romanian Buzarnescu. She teared up after the match.
Tumblr media
Tiafoe vs Travaglia got some coverage next. Travaglia has a low ball toss and his serve can come at your pretty quick. Both he and Tiafoe seem to tighten up at key moments. There were 6 breaks in the first set and Tiafoe barely outlasted Travaglia in the tiebreak. Travaglia had played 3 matches in the last 2 days and the first set seems to have deciding in breaking his spirit. When Travaglia started slamming his thighs with his racket it was clear that his legs were failing him. Tiafoe seems to be at his best when he plays steady and cuts down his mistakes. He doesn’t seem to have the kind of weapon that could threaten a top player. 7-6 6-2 6-2
Dimitrov vs Cilic met in a battle of former top 10 seeds. Dimitrov served big to close out the first set. Cilic is a bit of a shell of himself, but he still found the ability at times to dictate with the serve and forehand. Despite showing some nerves in the conclusion, Grigor looked far superior athletically. 6-4 6-2 7-6
Augere-Aliasime vs Stebe saw Felix winning pretty comfortably. However, Gilbert discussed how Felix is 0-7 in his career in finals, often getting blown out. He seems to have problems with nerves which lead him to lose games in bunches. 6-2 6-4 6-2
Careno-Busta took out Nishikori in straight sets.
Halep vs Cabrera showcased a young Australian talent who doesn’t quite look ready for the big time. Halpe is neutralizing her power effectively and, as always, is able to change the kinds of looks she gives her opponent to keep her off balance. She baits Cabrera into repeatedly going for too much. The match was called by commentators from Tennis Australia. 6-2 6-1 Halep is playing doubles with a young Australian girl too. They got a wildcard to this event.
Tumblr media
Djokovic vs Chardy was the final match on Rod Laver. One of the big talking points about Djokovic is that he has beefed up and put on some more muscle. He kept Chardy off balance all match. Chardy didn’t play badly, but Novak just frustrates guys and forces them to do too much. Novak had some nice lunging volleys and short responses to drop shots. 6-3 6-1 6-2 in about 90 minutes.
Tumblr media
Kyrgios vs Ferreira Silva sees Kyrgios return to action after 11 months. His forehand looks strong. He’s a good frontrunner. Served it out easily.
Tumblr media
Shapovalov vs Sinner was the marquee matchup of day 1 on paper. Sinner, the 19 year old, riding a 10-game winning streak had just won an ATP title the day before against Travaglia, but he had looked visibly exhausted doing so. Ranked 31, he’s the underdog against the 21 year old Shapovalov, ranked 12, but Dennis has lost his last 6 matches. Sinner’s biggest weakness is his first serve. Shapovalov’s weakness is his defense. He doesn’t have enough of a steady, reliable game when his weapons aren’t working. Sinner wins the first set after getting up an early break. Sinner seems to get the ball so deep so easily. Shapovalov has problems with consistency. However, Sinner isn’t capitalizing on his many break point chances and Denis is hanging around. Interesting fact; Sinner was an excellent skier earlier in his life. Brad Gilbert praises Sinner for his ability to diffuse power, something Shap doesn’t do as well. By extension, Sinner’s hard-down-the-middle return gives Shap problems. Shap is able to come up with some spectacular shots on the run and Sinner does seem to eventually let down in long points with errors. Shap’s errors tend to happen earlier in points, particularly on serve returns, which for him are inconsistent. Shap also seems to get too upset when he loses points. Very demonstrative when compared to Sinner who is so calm. Denis had some easier service games in the second set and his forehand seems to be hurting Sinner more. Brad Gilbert is calling this match with Chris Fowler. I think that Gilbert is one of the best color commentators. He has some of the most insightful observations about tendency and strategy. He also has a goofy side and he loves to tell stories. He feels like a real character and not a robot. He always pulls out irreverent nicknames; so far “Escape from Alcatraz”, “Weekend at Bernie’s” and “Sin City”. Sinner just not taking advantage of break points; he’s 1 for 11 early in the 3rd set. He fought off a few early in the 2nd and 3rd sets in ways that might just be breaking Sinner’s spirit. (Sinner escorted a moth off the court with his racket). Shapovalov, winning a lot of points off his first serve and displaying a much more successful defensive approach, has turned the match completely around. After dropping the 2nd set, Sinner was looking listless, making a lot of errors. Then, halfway through the 4th set Sinner had a second wind and suddenly was showing positive emotion. He started giving Denis a different look, dropping back on the return, and he cut out a lot of the errors. Shapovalov got into an argument with the chair about not being allowed to go to the bathroom and then called the trainer. They played a really tight first game of the fifth set. Shapovalov was able to dictate play with his forehand and push a tired Sinner around the court in order to eventually get the break. Then Shapovalov pulled out some underhand serving and aggressive serve-and-volley play. He took advantage of Sinner’s extremely deep return position, a strategic decision that seems to have been a mistake since Sinner often didn’t get his returns deep enough and was able to be caught being pushed too far off the court to recover. Sinner never went away, pushing the set all the way to 5-4 and even having a break point chance which he missed by a couple of inches on what would have been an incredible cross court winner on a Denis approach to the net. Shapovalov showed nerves, but ultimately finished the match strong with a winner. Best match of the first day by far and potentially a preview of many future matchups which will come far later in tournaments than the first round. 3-6 6-3 6-2 4-6 6-4 in an almost 4-hour battle.
Tumblr media
Maxime Cressy, a young serve-and-volley American, got a straight set win and will play Zverev in the 2nd round.

Naomi (Attack on Titan)
(Kat)
What have I found? Also, this is Attack on Titan, which I’ve gotten into lately. I freaking love it.
Tumblr media
If you’ve seen Attack on Titan, you’d know that they do a pretty good job at normal hair and eye colors. This girl has pink hair and purple eyes.
She’s a freak of nature. Also, her hair is much too long to fight titans. All girls in AoT have either short hair or tie it back in a ponytail.
Also, why is she in the scout regiment? It takes a great deal of skill to get in, and Captain Levi is very picky. Except with Eren. And Mikasa and Armin, and everyone else. But they have good track records, and I think Levi is smarter than this.
Tumblr media
Name: Naomi Eztli Name Meaning: Beautiful Blood
Okay, here’s a tip. Unless you have a good reason for your character to have a dark or super lovely name, don’t list the meaning, or else people like me will judge you very hard.
Tumblr media
Nicknames: Blood Stained Sakura, commonly just Sakura
Tumblr media
No.
No.
WHY IN THAT WORLD WOULD ANYONE CALL HER A JAPANESE NICKNAME IN A WORLD WERE THE JAPANESE ARE NEARLY EXTINCT?
Voice Actor:  Pfftttt
Why is this included?
Weight: 59 KG Height: 5'2
That height and weight are actually fine.
Birhtday: December 2nd Origin: Belived to be asian by name, actual orgin unknown
But she’s white? And the only Asian person in the anime is Mikasa. Unless she’s full Asian and not European which breaks canon. Because even Mikasa isn’t full Asian. Her father is blonde for God’s sake. Just stop. Granted, Naomi is a Japanese name, but I don’t even know where her surname comes from.
Family: Unkown (orphan)
Tumblr media
Joking aside, I’m not surprised, because it’s the Attack on Titan fandom.
Just remember Mikasa.
Naomi Eztli’s Statistics: Rank: 1st trainee
Tumblr media
I get that there has to be someone in that rank, but this just screams mary sue.
Affiliation: Surveys Corps
Former affiliation: 96th Trainee Squad
Why the heck would she go to the most dangerous corps there is? If she’s first rank, why not the Military Police? The only reason the cadets in the 104th squad joined the Survey Corps is because Eren inspired them. What’s next, she’s dating Levi?
Tumblr media
Battle Skill 9/10 Agility 10/10 Strategy 8/10 Teamwork 3/10 Stunts: 10/10
Tumblr media
Do you see that? That’s me trembling with rage.
Do you hear that? That’s the sound of me losing my MIND.
EVERY AOT OC IS FLAWLESS WITH EVERY SKILL EXCEPT TEAMWORK. YOU DON’T GET INTO TROUBLE BECAUSE YOU DON’T WORK WELL WITH OTHERS.  IT JUST GIVES HER A CHANCE TO GET MORE SOLO KILLS. JUST.
NO.
IN OTHER WORDS, SHE HAS NO FLAWS.
Knowledge/Abilities: Strengths: Gifted using the 3DMG, shes known to be a great stealth user and very fast. Her legs, they are known to be pure muscle and no one really wishes to be kicked, due to this she is a fast runner.
Tumblr media
How... How do you swing around on wires stealthily?
Weaknesses: She is a horrible team worker and often dosent think things through,
But you said she is a good strategist. Don’t freaking contradict yourself.
has multiple scars to prove this.
Tumblr media
What scars? I see no scars.
Likes: To fight, read, and cook Dislikes: being forced to cook, large groups of people, being bossed around.
But you said she likes to cook?????
ALSO WHY ON EARTH IS SHE IN THE MILITARY IF SHE DOESN’T WANT TO BE BOSSED AROUND? SHE SIGNED UP FOR THIS.
Short personal info: Cold and hateful, she seeks solitude.
Tumblr media
Despite this, if you constantly bother her and reflect in a good way, you can manage to get her to open up and be friendly.
Great. Typical tsundere.
Tumblr media
Just kill me.
Shes violent and sly, although, she is secretly a great cook and enjoys to draw..
How cliche.
Sometimes she can be caught singing when she thinks no one is near. Despite her strong, fearless demanor, she has a few strong fears, when faced with them she will be caught like a deer in the head lights and will possibly become extremely violent with the one who put her in the situation. She can easily snap but never shows it.
Yes, oh cliche god, but what might these fears be? I’d like to know.
History: No one really knows, She was an orphan, her files dont give much information on her either.
Yeah, No, I’m fine, I’m just drowning in cliches here.
Tumblr media
Titan Kills: Solo = 23 Team = 9
Yup. I called it.
Relationships:
Tumblr media
Eren Jaeger: Some one who has been seen chating with her- although this isnt a frequent happening. She looks at Eren as a freind.
Tumblr media
They’re friends but the don’t talk much?
Wha?
Mikasa Ackerman: Naomi has never really spoken, she doesn't seem to be phased by the girl.
Haha. That’s cute. You think your OC’s achievements are better than Mikasa’s A+ grade. Mikasa could kick this OC’s butt.
Armin Arlert: One of the only people she has never snapped at and insulted, she looks at Armin with a sisterly fondness believed to have stemmed from a little brother she lost.
That’s annoying, and I hate when OCs take a character that’s deemed weak in the anime or show and takes them in and treats them like a brother or sister. Armin is by no means weak, I’ll have you know.
Jean Kirstein: An aquantince again, she met him when 104th trainee squad put bets on who could beat her- no one has won.
Wow, really? Mikasa and Levi both could knock her into next week. Since it’s the 104th Cadet squad, Mikasa and Annie are more likely. They would crush her.
Caporal
*Corporal.
Levi is also referred to as Lieutenant and Captain.
‘Levi’ Rivaille: She respects his ability to make decisions and trusts him with orders- but does not respect him as a person.
Why?
Probally one of the only people who can withstand his glare.
That;s the end, and I cannot be more done with this Mary sue. To improve, the odd hair and eye color need to be dropped, as well as her Japanese name. She needs rome to grow, and if she’s too perfect, it doesn’t give her that privelage. Anyway, I’m out.

Note
Excessively Detailed Headcanon Meme YOU GOTTA DO ALL OF EM FOR SINK PLEASE RAE pls also have i mentioned that i love u lately
GEEZ FRIEND THAT’S A LOT OKAY UH
What does their bedroom look like? Covered in books and succulents and flowers/pretty rocks/spell ingredients in jars. She probably has one of those poster beds and dries bundles of nice-smelling herbs on the top of them so she can fall asleep to the smell of lavender. I can see her room being messy and cluttered in a Howl’s Moving Castle kinda way
Do they have any daily rituals? She likes to walk her garden at least once a day, and tries to read at least a few pages of whatever book she’s working through.
Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often? I can’t see her exercising anything but her mind tbh
What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy? She’s so used to living alone that she probably would need to adjust to the ‘there’s someone else in my kitchen’ thing first but she’d probably just kinda wait for them to be done in lieu of saying anything
Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.) lmao she’s a messy witch there’s spell ingredients and chalk marks and books EVERYWHERE but her clothing is always immaculate.
Eating habits and sample daily menu Uh I can only really picture her daily habits as an objecthead and they don’t eat sorry. If she is cooking for herself she probs enjoys easy things, or things she can grow herself.
Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time She doesn’t feel like a time waster, more an idler. She may drift through towns or cities without really interacting with anyone or anything, leaving early and taking the last train home, mostly due to the feeling of having nothing else to do and wanting to be surrounded by the world for a while
Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging Fuck man i dunno she likes novels a lot and sometimes will spend the whole day reading, only to crash into bed at 7am and sleep it off
Makeup? She used to try to cover her burn scars but it got too tedious (plus they reach down to her hands and wearing makeup on your hands is just ugh). She doesn’t like people looking at her face so she doesn’t really wear any.
Neuroses? Do they recognize them as such? uhhhh well she has the feeling that people don’t really like her/people are staring at her but idk if that would be a Neuroses
Intellectual pursuits? She is always trying to twist magic in unique ways and create new spells
Favorite book genre? Romantic Fantasy
Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general? She is like the one oc i was hoping would be gay yet ended up surprisingly straight. She doesn’t give much thought to orientations in general (also she’s fuckin thick as a vault door when it comes to relationships and/or seeing other people’s romantic feelings for others and/or herself) but just happens to be attracted to Male-leaning individuals
Physical abnormalities? (Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.) She’s got a big burn scar down half of her body, extending up to the left side of her face and down that shoulder/arm/hand/side. It’s mostly scar tissue now but it’s lighter than her normal skintone and thus very obvious, at least to her.
Biggest and smallest short term goal? biggest - to somehow convince Quet to keep coming over even after her debt is paid. smallest - to not get her balloon snagged on anything
Biggest and smallest long term goal? biggest - to somehow achieve the level of human attachment she sees around her. Smallest - To grow the most beautiful garden(tm)
Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress She loves pretty dresses and skirts and always wears tights (they used to cover the burns on her legs, now it’s just a habit). She always has the moon amulet around her neck and enjoys dramatic coats and scarves
Favorite beverage? idk why but ‘hot cocoa’ popped into my head
What do they think about before falling asleep at night? The stars. Books she’s read recently. Spells she wants to try. Hex.
Childhood illnesses? Any interesting stories behind them? I can’t really think of any? idk I haven’t thought much into her childhood except that she used to look up to witches in media. I’m sure at some point she got a stomach bug and spent two weeks marathoning harry potter and watching mary poppins on repeat
Turn-ons? Turn-offs? lmao i was gonna say she’s a sapiosexual but honestly even she’s not that pretentious. She does enjoy an intellectual conversation though. Turn-offs would be essentially anything crass or bigoted i suppose
Given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen? I imagine some sort of list or plan or recipe would end up on the piece of paper, or multiple at different angles across the page
How organized are they? How does this organization/disorganization manifest in their everyday life? Not at all and yet they spend a surprisingly small amount of time actually looking for things. She knows where things are even if they’re sprawled everywhere.
Is there one subject of study that they excel at? Or do they even care about intellectual pursuits at all? they care a LOT about intellectual pursuits and especially magical ones, they enjoy evocations and transmutations
How do they see themselves 5 years from today? Probably in the same situation in the next town over
Do they have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don’t workout? Honestly her plans are ‘exist in one place for as long as is convenient, leave as soon as you get the feeling people are growing tired of you’
What is their biggest regret? The botched spell that scarred her
Who do they see as their best friend? Their worst enemy? Best friend - Quet. Worst Enemy- probably Run.
Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?) MAGIC
Reaction to sudden intrapersonal disaster (eg close family member suddenly dies) DENIAL
Most prized possession? Her wand
Thoughts on material possessions in general? I mean she has mostly fleeting things- plants live and die, ingredients are used up. The most static thing she has are the amulet, her wand and her books, and none of these hold any extrinsic value
Concept of home and family? She doesn’t have a very strong one. Home is where she is, family is who she’s related to. It takes her a while to accept the family that found her more recently
Thoughts on privacy? (Are they a private person, or are they prone to ‘TMI’?) She’s very good at accidentally diving head-first into other people’s private lives, bc she has 0 experience with social cues
What activities do they enjoy, but consider to be a waste of time? I don’t know if they consider anything they do to be a waste of time tbh
What makes them feel guilty? When they accidentally cross a line they didn’t know was there, and end up pushing people away because of it
Are they more analytical or more emotional in their decision-making? DEFINITELY analytical
Would they consider themselves a Type A or Type B personality? Uhh I’m mostly blanking but i think type B?
What recharges them when they’re feeling drained? Introvert time in the garden/tending to succulents
Would you say that they have a superiority-complex? Inferiority-complex? Neither? Superiority, definitely
How misanthropic are they? I have done 40 questions and I’m not ashamed to say i cannot recall the definition of misanthropic and am not going to look it up good day
Hobbies? Reading, gardening, making spell jars and hanging pots
How far did they get in formal education? What are their views on formal education vs self-education? She got pretty far in formal education (college at least) but sees no difference in where one gets their knowledge if they have it
Religion? I know a passing knowledge of wicca and paganism and I think Paganism? I really need to do more reading about it whoops
Superstitions or views on the occult? lmao she’s a witch my man
Do they express their thoughts through words or deeds? words, because they don’t know how else to.

This was Edmund’s room until he left for the military when he was 18 (when Perdita was about 14.) Then, Perdita took it over. It was decorated with all white furniture and dark pink almost magenta accents. Always messy, her clothes thrown about and make up all over her vanity. After her boyfriend broke her heart, she changed everything to dark reds because she was dramatic like that. The furniture stayed white, though. She does a lot of yoga/pilates to keep her body #tight because she’s worried about the weight she gained while pregnant. She’s very body/health conscious.   Emotional Stability — haha. Well--if we don’t include her depression, Perdita is definitely solid mentally. She knows who she is. She is unapologetic about it. Internally, she’s quite insecure, but she mostly ignores that little voice (except for in her appearance, which she takes great care of and pride in.) Body Temperature — moderate. She can definitely get cold. She hates extreme temperatures in either direction because she’s rather “cold blooded” aka her temperature changes with the air around her. Sociability — Perdita is super extroverted. She’s very good with people. Knowing their weaknesses. Analyzing them. She uses her extrovert personality as a weapon. Addictions — none Drug Use —  none; used to do party drugs/smoked weed on occasion, used pretty bad in high school. Also, she takes prescribed anti-depressants Alcohol Use — drinks pretty regularly but rarely gets horribly drunk

Also, her dad likes to watch American football, so she always was watching sports growing up. Also baseball. Yankee fans, ofc. Social Issues — Perdita is a feminist, but it is a problematic kind of feminism. It’s hard to explain because she thinks women are better than men, but she definitely engages in toxic misogynistic (girl hate) behavior and stuff like that. Color — White. Ugh I'm really bad at going to bed when I want to lol. Today was pretty good. I dragged my ass out of bed at 8:30 and got ready to go to the beach. I don't really have a bathing suit (I have one but idk if it fits and I didn't bring it with me anyway) so I just wore a bra and underwear with a tank top and shorts and faked it because whatever. We left for the beach around 9 and made fairly good time, getting there around 9:50. Parking was already swamped, and we had to drive around for a few minutes but soon found a spot on the street and discovered that you can pay for the meter by phone if you don't have enough quarters (interesting). So from there we walked over to the public access point, not very far. We were right over by where we used to always stay when we would come down here to visit my cousins. Where they actually live is kind of out in the middle of nowhere, and the only thing nearby is a motel, and my parents don't really do motels if at all avoidable (spoiled rich people that they are) so we always opted for one of the touristy hotels on the beach, because hey, beach! I was just happy to be back at the ocean. I dutifully put sunscreen on, then laid back for a little while before deciding to go in the water. At first I was being hesitant and not wanting to go all the way in but then I saw the waves and thought about how some of my happiest memories from my childhood are at the beach jumping waves with my (other) cousin and my brother because nobody was making fun of me and I was simply accepted as part of the group, and I just said fuck it and ended up jumping through waves and dunking my head under for a good while with my cousin, and it was very much fun. I got to talk to my cousin a bit while we were out there about college and such and how to prepare and just practical advice and shit, so that was good. Eventually we went back, and I guess my mortal mistake was not reapplying sunscreen at this point, because I ended up with stupid ridiculous sunburn on my arms and legs and I'm very irritated about it. But anyway. We sat with my mom and aunts for a while, then the adults (or adult adults) went for a walk and I just sat with my cousin, and looked at the ocean and just ended up thinking. And I sat there and I thought about how much I missed the ocean, the real ocean, and how much I've enjoyed these days with my extended family, feeling that sense of love and community that seems so lacking in so many of my lonely days in Chicago. I thought about my grandparents and how I didn't get enough time with them, and how I never got to know my grandpa on my mom's side very well because he lived in Arizona and we only ever saw him for a few days a year. I thought about how my dad is already in his 70's, and while he's in good health he's still getting older and it's obviously going to still be a few years before I have any kids. I thought about how I want my kids to know their grandparents, to spend time with them while they can and build those relationships while they have the chance to, before they're taken from them too soon. I thought about how my cousins all lived in different states, and how I'd like my kids to be very close with their cousins, that they'd grow up alongside them, that my kids would know their uncles and aunt and feel so loved by all the family around them. And I just sat looking at the ocean and I decided I don't want to stay in Chicago after I finish law school. I don't really know where this decision came from. Sure, there's all the above, but up until now all of that was true and staying in Chi was still a rational decision to make. But now....I just don't want to anymore. Maybe it has to do with the job in New York City that I want so badly, that while I love the work I do now that is what I really want to do, what I want to do long term. How I'd be close enough to my family but not so close that I'd feel the need to get away that sent me packing in the first place. I need breathing room. I'm not moving back home. But I wouldn't be opposed to being closer, a lot closer than Chicago. I don't know if this job in NYC is what God does have in store for me, but I know I really want it. I guess we'll have to see what happens. I will really really miss my church in Chicago though. I love it there oh so much and I can only hope to find a community that resonates with my soul so much again in a new place. I love the people there and their beautiful hearts, and I will miss them dearly. But, anyways. We stayed at the beach until about 2 when we wanted to head back since we didn't want to spend the whole day there. We stopped at one of the little beach stores because my aunt (the one from Michigan) wanted to look at stuff. I wound up getting two pairs of shorts, like soffee style, because the shorts I was wearing yesterday were way too big for me as are the majority of my shorts now haha so I'll be needing to do something about that. I'm not really crazy about this aunt. She's technically my step-aunt I suppose, as she's not the mother of my cousins, though my uncle divorced her before I have any memories of them. I remember vaguely before they got married, and I remember it happening and gaining two new cousins (or step-cousins technically, but we've dropped that mostly). Growing up I thought I didn't like her because my cousins didn't like her and I liked them, but as I got older and those cousins haven't really been around, I've realized that she's really just a rude person and is always very demeaning towards younger people and it definitely just pissed me off as a kid (and sometimes still pisses me off). But anyway, not the point. We got back in the car and briefly stopped for coffee, then drove back to the house. I showered to get the sand off me and get the salt water out of my hair, then tried to aloe up the best I could. Everyone was kind of chilling at this point so I pulled out my laptop, only to find the mouse pad being erratic and not responding correctly, so I cursed and shut it off, hoping it being off for a few hours will fix the issue and it'll work for me to live tweet the Tonys tonight. Shortly after this we started playing badminton out front, and the neighbors came over, so I sat and talked with the mom for a bit. This is the mom of the girl I was talking to last night, and I very much enjoyed talking to her as well. We eventually moved to the back for some reason, then started playing bs, and today apparently was not my day for it because I didn't win either of our games lol. The second was interrupted by dinner, which we had steak for, then we finished and it was like 7:40 at this point so I checked my computer which was thankfully cooperating at this point and waited for the Tonys to start. I knew this year would be a bit odd because I admittedly have not been paying attention to the theatre season at all, and I've only seen one show that was barely nominated, so I wasn't really familiar with any of the front runners. I knew the concept of DEH and had seen Ben Platt perform on one of the tonight shows, but that was about it. I had mixed feelings overall about the night. Kevin Spacey was funny enough. I really enjoyed the Falsettos performance, so I'm very glad that was apparently recorded and I can see it in movie theatres since it closed way back in November (I don't know why, it looks hilarious). I wasn't impressed at all by hello dolly or Groundhog Day, I thought they were both very boring and I didn't quite know how they got nominated. War Paint I felt like should've been more impressive for the star power it had, but the music just wasn't very good. The DEH performance was of course great, it was a strong choice of course to pick a song that really only features your main actor and not an ensemble piece like most shows do, but Ben Platt did a fantastic job of carrying it and I was totally obsessed with the set design, holy crap it was awesome. I have tentative plans at least to see that show before the summer is over, assuming we can get tickets. I was sad Anastasia didn't win for featured actress or costumes, I can't speak for the costumes for other shows but Anastasia's were BEAUTIFUL, some of the best I've ever seen, and undoubtedly deserved a Tony for it. And Mary Beth Peil was did an amazing job in her role and I wish she got recognized for it. It also pissed me off it didn't get nominated for best musical when fucking Groundhog Day did which looked fucking terrible???? Like why??? Why is that a thing and why did it get nominated for best musical???? I have so many frustrations. Ugh. And Christy Altomare belonged in the leading actress race and Ramin Karimloo belonged in the featured actor race, but I digress. Great Comet had a fun performance, I enjoyed their costumes as well (mostly how it went from 1800s to punk rock in about two seconds) although I'm still not entirely sure what the show is actually about, or how it was conceived (something about war and peace)??? I liked what they did with having the playwrights talk about their plays, it was super effective in getting invested in them and better than how they used to do it. I also appreciated how they introduced them with the writers name first for the revivals. DEH winning of course surprised nobody, though it'll probably make ticket prices go up (sigh, as if they weren't high enough already). But yeah, it was decent, a good watch at least. And that pretty much summed up my night, just followed by an inability to get off my phone, though my phone has picked up the annoying habit of dying on me when the battery isn't dead but won't turn back on unless plugged in??? Ugh, not happy about it, but have a Genius Bar appointment for it Tuesday. Flying home tomorrow, but more on that then. Sleep for now. Goodnight peeps. Stay lovely.
