Kate's Wedding Saree
As the family name Sharma is Brahmin, and it means 'joyfulness', 'comfort' and 'happiness', it seems fitting for Kate to want to have her culture and heritage represented in her wedding saree.
Also, we can imagine the wedding saree used to belong to her mother.
For those who don't know, it's also possible the name of the mother of Kate was Charlotte as they named their children after their parents: Edmund after his paternal grandfather; Miles after his maternal grandfather; Charlotte after her maternal grandmother; and Mary after her step-grandmother through Kate.
My headcanon for Kate's mother's surname is Chaturvedi, which means 'one who possesses the four vedas'

Gifts and Blessings
Synopsis:
Mary had never thought that she would find joy in birthdays, especially hers. With parents who prided respectability and their image more than love, it was a given that sentimentals would fall on the back burner. Even when she ran away with her true love, the idea of them had never been cemented as important. However, as she sits cradling her grandson while her daughters middle about in celebration of her special day, she can't help but find joy in them.

I just know that in the Isekai Portia au, Mary taught Portia how to wield the shoe for naughty children. None of the children in the house were safe. One of the mamas was gonna get ya.
The girls would later learn how to wield the shoe if they needed to get some unruly suitor in line. The boys would borrow the girls' shoes if some gentleman was acting ungentlemanly in the club.
Portia and Mary have both threatened Jack Featherington with the shoe. Portia has also threatened Violet with the shoe. Violet was a little turned on by it.

Thanks for this! I feel like people always will have those reactions because it alters the status quo, and let's be honest, most of the world is colorist so of course they prefer light skin
Hey, I love your stories so much, you are such a good writer! You're little headcanons are such good world builders as well and I find myself constantly refreshing your tumble just to see if you have posted any new ones :). If you don't mind me asking I was just wondering how Kate deals with the racism that she faces?
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoy these little snippets though I’m afraid they’ve been fairly scarce these last few days so sorry about that! I have resolved to sit down when I finish work Saturday afternoon and clear out this inbox while I eat my rum and raisin ice cream!
Okay, this prompt is Super super important and I suppose that I want to make a general disclaimer that I’m a white person and I generally feel that it’s not my place to comment on how people of colour feel. It’s my place to listen when people of colour report incidents and try to recognise the institutional racism still unfortunately inherit in our society. As a white immigrant with no accent, in a largely conservative part of Australia (My Local MP is famous for saying there are no gay people in our area) I have unfortunately been privy to a lot of casual racism about immigrants and when I say “But I’m an immigrant” people brush it off with “Not people like you” and they go absolutely red in the face and can’t make eye contact when I say, out loud, louder even “Oh, so you think we should only let white people in.” The discomfort on their face as they try and back track is truly other wordly. I guess I just want to use this very tiny platform I’ve erected for myself by saying, that black lives matter, brown lives matter, and honestly white people out there thinking they’re the master race when they can’t even handle cayenne pepper. You ain’t shit bro. And i’m always open to educating myself on this topic so if you read these and feel I have something to learn then please let me know. The last thing I’ll say before I give you some actual writing is that, even prior to Simone Ashley’s casting, Kate Sheffield was a woman of colour in this fic. Always has been, always will be, if you don’t like it, the unfollow button is at the top of the page and honestly, I won’t be that sorry to see you go!
Okay! These are based off things that have happened either in my presence to friends of mine or to my brother in law (who is Chinese Australian but who always gets spoken to a little louder than my sister and I. Even though he was born in Brisbane, and we were not)
Kate wasn’t quite sure when she realised she was treated a little differently than some of the other children in her class but it was certainly there. It could have been the way people’s eyes clouded with confusion when they looked at the name “Sheffield” and eyed her brown skin with confusion. Or when Mary would wait for her outside the school gate, the other parents eyeing her pale skin and the whispers of Oh she’s adopted which Mary always cut off with a sharp no, She’s not. And She doesn’t really know why one boy, Jamie Stevens, keeps asking her where she’s from. Her eyebrows furrow in confusion and she says London? He tuts and says No but where are you from. And Kate, being only 7 the time says ... Hounslow?
In later years, Kate tries not to think about the possibility that Edwina is treated slightly differently than herself because, in the right light, Edwina could almost pass for white. She sees the confusion in people’s eyes when Edwina says This is my sister Kate and she knows they’re thinking two things Lord, we know who got all the looks of the family and Why is this one so brown? And she pretends it doesn’t sting, but the casually condescending way they ask if they're fully related turns her stomach
She remembers the day Edwina’s first big print ad came out, they’d been so excited. Kate and Mary had huddled around the kitchen table as Edwina proudly brandished a magazine at them. And Mary and Kate both stopped dead, a look passing between them. Because the woman on the page in front of them, is definitely Edwina, and she looks absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful. But also very very pale. Mary very hesitantly says Eddie, honey, You look awfully pale there. Edwina had frowned, looking down at the page and said, They said they had to do some colour correction in post something about the clothes not looking right Mary had tisked and closed the magazine and said You should be proud of where you come from. The both of you. She said the last part, firmly to Kate, her uncanny knack for recognising Kate’s emotional turmoil coming into play. Because right there on the page is another little thing that chips away at Kate’s self confidence. And it’s the last time Edwina allows colour correction in post
By the time, Kate started dating Anthony, she was very good at ignoring the way people spoke a little more loudly to her, than they did to her white coworkers. But she absolutely hated that one of the first thoughts she had on her way to Violet Bridgerton’s for dinner that first time was What if she hates that I’m brown? Of course one of the first things Violet says when she wraps Kate tightly in her arms is Goodness you and Anthony will have beautiful children in true Violet fashion, and Kate knows his family honesty could not care in the slightest. But that doesn’t stop other people from murmuring behind their backs.

Goodbye Lil Keets
Well, we feared it was coming - though not quite the destination predicted...
United forward Nikita 'Lil Keets' Parris has made her switch to Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee, with an agreement to move to the south coast signed late on Friday.
The 30-year old had been with United for two seasons, having signed from Arsenal, and achieved a very tidy 25 goals in 57 appearances for the Red Devils. Chief amongst her achievements with United were the FA Cup win last season, as well as finishing top scorer for the club in the 23/24 season.
Parris turned down a move to the USA last winter, with reports suggesting that she wanted to see out the season with United and hopefully lift the FA Cup (mission accomplished). The move to Brighton now is for a fee rather than on a free due to United having a one-year extension clause in Parris' contract, which was activated.
Parris isn't the only outbound this summer, having seen sales of Irene Guerrero to Club America and Gemma Evans to Liverpool. There have also been the free departures of Mary Earps to PSG, Lucia Garcia to Monterrey, and Katie Zelem to Angel City FC in the NWSL.
Young striker Alyssa Aherne (pictured above) has also departed the club on loan, with the young winger heading to Sheffield United in the Championship to get much-needed game time for development - similar to how Grace Clinton was with Bristol City for their promotion to the WSL a few years ago.

I would LOVE TO SEE THIS HAPPEN!!!! Sadly I know it won’t. People who actually stan Penelope are insane for doing so.
What Bridgerton Season 3 should have been:
Two major couples (Francesca/John Sterling, Edwina/Friedrich)
Eloise and Marina becoming friends
More backstory/flashbacks on the Sharmas (Mary, Kate’s parents)
Plenty of Kathony moments
Funny moments between Newton the Corgi and Anthony
Penelope as the villain the show has made her out to be

Look up and watch Darwin Nunez’s goal last night v Sheffield United.
HUGE HUGE goalkeeper error resulting in that goal. But what has joey Barton said about the incident? Fuck all. Why? Because it wasn’t a woman who made that mistake
But he’s quick to jump a 17 year old girl who makes a mistake in a cup final in I think her first appearance for the club because the first team keeper was on loan from the opposing team and couldn’t play.
But what about the professional male athlete that is earning tens of thousands of pounds a week. Silence 🤐

I've been on a Bridgertons crave as of late, specifically in regards to the Sharmas, and it's making me want to write many fics as well. This one, I'm in debate of whether to continue or not, is a story that follows young Mary and her time not only during the season after being declared the Diamond, but also her meeting the love of her life (I call him Edwin). I'm nervous, as I've never written anything on here before 😭.
It had seemed like a lifetime ago had passed before her eyes, all in an instant when a hush fell over the crowd as the queen made her way forward. Brown eyes of Queen Charlotte, collected and poise as any young woman of her stature would be, pinned there gaze on the sole child, the sole daughter of the Sheffields, and proclaimed the title that would carry on for the rest of Mary's life (whether she knew it or not). The Diamond of the Ton. By the time Mary had come back to her senses, she was already enveloped in a wave of voices and jeers, congratulations and jealous sprouts, all nearly drowned out by mother's disposition.
It wasn't that her mother, Lady Sheffield, had ever been unkind to Mary. She was simply a mother who wanted the best for her daughter, Mary often reminded herself (even on days where the words seemed to hold no meaning). But Mary had often noted, to herself of course, that her mother, both of her parents really, had only shown true excitement, true happiness for their daughter when it brought them the attention of high society. Her mother's smile was blinding as she pulled her towards her father, Lord Sheffield, who stood conversing with another gentleman. He's handsome with a kind disposition, a gentle smile pulling on to his face when they are introduced. He is an Earl, but through the haze and fast paced movements around her, Mary cannot seem to focus on anything else.
The more she tries to speak, the more her parents intervene with overly boastful tones and tales that place her on a pedestal more than provide any influential pieces to who she is. Mary is thankful when her parents and the Earl are swept away as she quickly maneuvers to the sidelines. A part of her hoped to find Agatha, Lady Danbury, in a corner of the room but as she feels the gaze of other men interested in her favor or ladies seeking to be in her good graces, her heart beats so loudly that Mary fears it may break free from her chest.
The cool air from outside was welcomed greatly as Mary moved behind a column in hopes of hiding her presence. Her mother would surely have choice words to say if she were spotted here, especially unattended, but Mary could not stand in that room any longer. A small bed of doubt had begun to creep into her mind, holding sentiments of dread when thinking back to the title of the Diamond. Was it really worth it?
"Of course it is," she whispered harshly to herself, briefly looking over her shoulder in hopes of not drawing attention from any passersby. "Any young lady would kill to be in your shoes. Being the Diamond of the season is a gift that should not be questioned."
"That could be debated." A voice spoke through the darkness and Mary let out a startled cry, hand hovering over her chest in alarm. A man stood a few feet away, wearing an apologetic smile when he took note of Mary's tense stance. He had brown olive skin and black curls that hung slightly over his hairline. "My apologies, I did not mean to scare you."
Mary breathed deeply, willing her heart to return to a normal beat as she glanced back at the man. "It is quite alright. I fear the only thing that shall scare me is how much you may have heard."
The man smiled. "If I told you I heard nothing, would that ease your woes?" Upon the unimpressed look he received in response he continued. "All right then. How about this: I may have heard your conversation, but I do not plan on placing any childish remarks in response. Rather, perhaps I can offer you some advice, if that will be accepted."
"Advice?" Mary repeated, studying him cautiously. "You hardly know me, why interrupt whatever endeavors you may have to provide me guidance?"
"Because, and I hope that I do not come off too forward, it seems like being recognized as the Queen's Diamond may have been overwhelming for you. Not that you don't hide it well, but everyone needs a break from time to time from society." He gestured to himself. "Trust me, I would know. The more I come back here, the more I long to return home to India."
This brought a smile to Mary's face. "You have traveled a long way. I've heard tales, and it truly sounds like a wonderful place."
"It is," he bowed his head respectfully before continuing. "Forgive me, it seems as though I have forgotten to introduce myself. Miles Sharma, at your service."
Mary giggled softly, feeling a soft burn forming across the apples of her cheeks. "Do not be to hard on yourself, as I have forgotten myself too. Mary Sheffield, sir." Her mind traveled back to Miles's previous statement. "You don't believe it is unfitting of a young lady to question being the diamond of the season?"
Miles grunted softly. "Believe me when I say, Miss Sheffield, that I hold no obligation when it comes to presuming what a lady should and should not do." This received a look of awe from young Mary. "All that I will offer, however, is that it is perfectly normal to hold doubts during moments of anxiousness. I've had my fair share. Doesn't mean we aren't thankful for them, for they granted us."
"Some would kill to be in my place."
"That is true." Miles hummed in agreement. "But that does not also mean that some wouldn't do anything to be far from your position as possible. And, even so, it is human nature to have doubts. It only matters how we choose to bare them. Will you let them weigh you down, or will you conquer them, Miss Sheffield?"
Mary blinked in consideration, his words swirling in her mind and consuming her doubts with it. He must be some magic man, she had thought, because just by standing before him Mary had felt like she was an open book. And that didn't scare her. Finally, after a moment, she said. "Please, call me Mary." Perhaps that is not what she had wanted to say intentionally, but was pleased with it nonetheless as Miles Sharma smiled at her sweetly.
"Then, please, call me Miles."
(Thank you @minim236 for informing me about Kate's and Edwina's father's name as, for the longest, I really thought it was Edwin 😭)

i finally started watching the nanny!!
the reason i’m getting into it is bc i’ve seen some twitter artists redrawing the nanny’s outfits onto Ed and i’ve just started 2 watch the pilot but i see some ofmd characters in each one
Fran Fine = Edward Teach (ofc)
Maxwell Sheffield = Stede Bonnet (ofc)
With Margaret, i’m debating between Olu or Jim but she’s more Olu than Jim so it’s most likely Olu
Brighton Sheffield = Izzy (obvi)
With Grace, i most likely see Lucius since she’s so brutally honest and more healthy in the mind (she’s the therapist sibling, just like Lucius) and she’s so young as well! (like Nathan Foad)
Niles = Buttons(?)
With CC, i’m questioning if i see Mary in her but idk...
Lemme know what you guys think and tell me ur opinions of these casting choices!

I love Mary Sheffield
Many have asked headcanons about the romantic couples. But what about Kate and Edwina? And Anthony and Edwina? I mean, I'd love me some sibling headcanons here. 🧡 Because let's face it, I am addicted to this AU and I really love the love and interactions between the siblings, no matter how much this series is about Kate and Anthony. 😅
Okay, in the name of Full disclosure, I love and adore the Sheffield family! Mary Sheffield gave me such high hopes when Sophie got a stepmother in AOFAG That I was truly shocked and surprised when Araminta Gunningworth turned out to be truly the world’s biggest toad. I will never forgive Julia Quinn for killing off Mary in one line of the Second Epilogue of When He Was Wicked I had to stop reading and have a cry for several minutes solid. Nothing would make me happier than to give you some Sheffield Headcanons! (Below the Cut because I’m such an unstoppable monster)
Kate is five years old when Edwina is born and she remembers every second of the first time she held her. Kate’s grandmother had dropped her off to the hospital and Kate had hovered nervously by the door, watching her Dad and Mary with the tiny little bundle her father was holding. Mary had smiled at her and said Katie, why don’t you come and sit up here with me? Kate had scrambled onto the bed, squeezing herself onto Mary’s lap even as her father warned her to be careful, Mary was a little sore. She’d fine, Thomas Mary had whispered as she started running her hands through Kate’s hair. Kate had peered very carefully at the tiny baby and her Father had placed the baby in her arms and said This is Edwina, and she’s going to need you to help her as her sister. Do you think you can do that Kate? And Kate had looked into the eyes of the tiny Edwina, and known she would spend the rest of her life protecting her sister if she had to. A photo of his moment still hangs in Mary’s living room. And it’s on Kate’s desk as well.
Kate was at the christening when she heard Mary’s aunt, a very shrewd woman tut and say to Mary’s mother (Who was called Karen. Not granny. I’m Edwina’s Granny but not yours), Well it’s nice she has one of her own now. She won’t love Katharine so much now though I suppose. And even though Mary had called her over into a tight hug soon after. Kate had waited, and then waited some more for Mary to push her away. For her to tell her that she wasn’t her daughter after all, and it was time to stop pretending. Instead Kate heard Mary introduce her again, and again as My Daughter, Kate never Kate, Thomas’ daughter. And Kate loved her even more because of it
Kate was about 10 years old when she realised that people treated her and Edwina slightly differently. Edwina was a stunning child, completely skipping the awkward braces phase that Kate had to suffer through, Edwina didn’t need glasses, Kate did (though she switched to contact lenses in her adult years). Kate watched Time and time again, as people’s eyes slid over Kate and landed on Edwina where they stayed, but she told herself it didn’t matter, she loved her sister, and Kate was fine with her career. She didn’t need anyone else. She didn’t. Of course when she looks at Anthony playing with their children in the yard, she wonders how she could have ever been jealous of Edwina. How she could have pretended, even for a moment, that she didn’t desperately need him.
Kate had always wanted a puppy. Had begged Mary and her father for one, year after year. Please, Daddy! Please can I have a puppy for Christmas?! and he’d always smiled and said Sorry, Peanut, dogs make Daddy sick. We can get you a fish instead! Kate had gone to brunch the week she started at Bridgerton and Sons and felt like crying. This was supposed to be her big break! A sign her career was going somewhere instead she was stuck with Anthony fucking Bridgerton, smirking and sniping at her. As she sat at the table drinking her juice Mary had furtively sent Edwina a glance who’d then risen from he table rather suddenly and appeared carrying a box. We’re just so proud of you Katie, This new job is such a big opportunity and you’re going to be amazing! Mary had said as Eddie dropped the box ( a ribbon wrapped around the lid, tiny little holes poked in the side) in front of Kate. And she’d wanted to cry again because she couldn’t tell them now how much she hated the bloody job. And then she stopped as the box let out a tiny yip! She carefully peeled back the lid and Newton was staring up at her, his tiny tail wagging, tongue lolling out happily and Kate had burst into tears. Newton Sheffield started his new life at Kate’s flat, though if anyone had asked him, he far preferred Anthony’s house when he was introduced to it a year later. And he definitely approved of his human’s new friend, who always snuck him little table scraps.
The first time Edwina and Mary heard Kate complain about Anthony fucking Bridgerton, they had both raised their eyebrows at one another, saying nothing. The 75th time they heard Kate complain about Anthony fucking Bridgerton Mary had sighed. When Kate had gone into the kitchen to fetch a snack Edwina had sighed and said Do You think she knows she’s in love with him? or Do you think she actually thinks she hates him? Mary had clucked her tongue and said I definitely think she believes she hates him, even though it’s fairly obvious this could all be solved with 20 minutes alone in her office. Edwina is still cackling loudly when Kate walks back in, glaring suspiciously she says to Mary What’s wrong with the idiot? Mary just smiles and says Nothing sweetheart.
Thank you so much for reading my scrappy little fics! I love reading your tags!
