I think I’m just going to use this blog for fan art. Maybe I’ll post more OC stuff after protecting it, but this will do for now. I’m still doing my Pegaseptember challenge this year on a weekly basis, and this week’s prompt is: Sporty!

This is a tribute to the late Rachel Lillis who was well-known for her English dub voice in the original Pokémon series as both Misty and Jessie, but I’ve grown to absolutely adore her performance as Martina from Slayers Next! I recently learned the character was named after a real life tennis player, though they didn’t have similar personalities. Princess Martina of Zoana was however skilled in a magical game of tennis known as brass rackets. I’ve wanted to do a tribute to her since I heard the news of her passing, and since I love drawing horse-like creatures, this creation was born! I based her coat off of her original outfit rather than her tennis one as I thought it could be a fun pinto, almost calico-like pattern.

She probably would make more sense as a regular horse than a unicorn since she has no real magic, but she’s sort of like the Trixie to Lina Inverse’s Twilight Sparkle, so to me a unicorn still made sense (also I needed an excuse for her to have wings in order to fit the pegasus challenge, so magical spectral wings from the enchanted rackets it is!). The magic also looks more like the MLP magic than the Slayers magic because those sparkles are so dang fun to draw!

Muse #4- Naga the Serpent.

Age ( 19-20 )

Naga's exact age is not known, but it is assumed that she was around 19 or 20 during the time Slayers Special took place, making her several years older than Lina.

Naga's real full name is Gracia Ul Naga Saillune, making her the first daughter of Crown Prince Philionel El Di Saillune and the older sister of Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune. She has one living uncle, Christopher Wil Brogg Saillune, one deceased uncle, Randy Saillune, and a deceased cousin, Alfred Saillune. Her grandfather, Eldoran Saillune, is the king of Saillune, although Philionel acts as a proxy ruler.

Gracia's mother was murdered before her own eyes several years before the start of the series by the famous assassin Booley. Gracia, in turn, slew the killer with a spell she learned from her mother, Chaos String. After the funeral, Naga found the outrageous outfit she currently wears inside her mother's closet. Shortly afterward, she left home in order to learn the ways of the world and changed her name to Naga the Serpent.

Contrary to popular belief, Naga still keeps in touch with her home and, occasionally, she will be sent money through a messenger. The people of Saillune know that she has not gone missing; they accept the fact that she has left on her own journey.

Being a princess, Naga knows when to be graceful and when to be confident. Although she keeps her true identity a secret, she acts in a self-confident and sometimes arrogant manner. When she stands before other members of royalty, she speaks to them as equals, while Lina will often bow her head and speak only when spoken to. Many of her confident poses and speeches are strikingly similar to those of Amelia or Martina Zoana Mel Navratilova, another princess (now queen).

Naga may be an alcoholic. She is often shown drinking to excess to the point that her cheeks are flushed, and can often be seen sleeping beside an empty mug or bottle, implying that she drinks herself to sleep.

To her dismay, Naga is often referred to as Lina's sidekick or "that other girl."

I’m bingeing Veep where they made a joke that referenced Martina Navratilova, a tennis player who I would’ve had no clue who she was for the past 19 years without my fave anime having a randomly named character after her. It still amuses me because it’s just so random for a bratty rogue princess with a false god to be named after a Czech tennis player.

(Also it’s been 19 years since I first encountered slayers wtf)

Martina was one of the many reasons why NEXT is mine and my sisters’s favorite season of Slayers. We’re still not quite sure if it’s her personality, her antics or the voice they put her on the spanish dub (if you’re curious about how does she sound, take a look at these youtube clips), but to us she’s the most funny supporting character EVER XDDD
