Yeah it's insane how many players have been/are in Linköping! From the top of my head and in no particular order it's:
Jonna Neto Minde Pernille Magda Frido Stina (x2) Nilla Kosse (3 times iirc) Frida Maanum Vangsgaard Bredgaard Labbé Pauline Hammarlund (now in Fiorentina and apparently the best paid player in Serie A) Lindahl Janni Arnth Rasmussen Jessica Wik (formerly Samuelsson) Slegers Gajhede Knudsen Nico Kildemoes Hurtig (with wifey) Selerud (now in Roma) Saori Takarada Landström (now in Roma) Mimmi Larsson (now in Kansas City Current) Angeldahl Dajan Hashemi Emma Holmgren (now in Lyon) Skinnes Hansen Ebere Orji Chinaza Uchendu Banusic Olga Ahtinen Yuka Momiki Uchenna Kanu Anna Oscarsson (now in Glasgow City) Rantanen Homare Sawa
Then the current coach Jeglertz can be added. He coached Umeå IK in their golden era with players like Marta, Hanna Ljungberg, Hanna Marklund, Frida Östberg, Caroline Jönsson, a young Lisa Dahlkvist, Sofia Jakobsson, Bachmann and Elaine in the squad. He then became head coach for Finland wnt and assistant coach for Canada wnt before he came to Linköping.
And of course Denise Reddy who's been a coach for Linköping twice and not to forget Martin Sjögren.
It is quite surreal the talent that’s been through, wonder what they put in the water up there to make them develop that much

It’s not the same but it reminds me of how martin sjögren insisted on playing cgh centrally as a 10 despite her skillset being very much a rw
oof that was something 😅😅 really turned one of the best in the world into a just 'good' player
I see the similarities tbh, including the lack of options in midfield

Martin Sjögren Is the coach for Norway and they qualified for the Euros.
If you don’t know him, he is the one who coached Harder, Eriksson and all the Linköpings players back in the days. Harder said he is the most important coach in her career. Norway has a lot of talented players and combine experience and youth so it will be fun to see them play at the Euros.
Back in the early days of women football, Norway was a power house. The 1990s and 1980s Norway teams were almost impossible to play and they were among the few (with Sweden at time) to stop the Mighty Germans in Europe. They also had great runs in the WC particularly in the 1990s.
So it is great to see this country do well.

Norway coach is the old linköping coach. Great at club level and developing talents, apparently not so good with national teams
Awh I see... Some coaches are better at discovering/bringing talent through than managing them at the top level anyway. God forbid Hege Riise decides to step in and takeover at some point though 💀

Long-term problems
[...]
Like a condemned man about to face a firing squad, Martin Sjögren walks through the mixed zone after the defeat to Belgium, his body language defeated, affected by the two Belgian goals as if they were .30 calibre shot directly into his gut. The Norwegian press are critical of him, his nationality is once again brought up, a pot-shot from Sweden’s western neighbours, the media overly critical of the passive manager leading their team.
With some of the best in the world at his disposal, it’s unfathomable that Norway aren’t just underperforming so criminally but are looking at a group stage exit from Euro 2017 with potentially no points nor goals to their name. Although the Football Girls’ struggles aren’t news, the football world seems to have forgotten that Sjögren inherited a less than perfect Norway side, the team having taken heavy hits with retirements and discontent under the previous manager Roger Finjord, things were far from perfect. Even under Norway-favourite, Even Pellerud the team looked off-colour, a lack of identity and focus derailing them at the 2015 World Cup.
Slow progress
The adage is that Rome wasn’t built in a day and whilst Sjögren isn’t being asked to build a European capital city that boasts a good pizza place or two, he is being asked to reharmonize a former European power in women’s football. The Damallsvenskan-winning coach has his work cut out for him, given just half a year with Norway after taking over at the end of 2016. He’s had precious little in the way of time to stamp his style on the team, a La Manga camp at the start of the year brought about two wins from two, the team only having just met their new boss.
Away from each other for two months, the team regathered in the Portuguese Algarve. Whilst the wins didn’t follow the team from Spain, the play improved, the problems were still there but the development of the team was palpable, so why now, in the Netherlands, are the team capitulating and falling apart on the pitch?
A serious lack of midfield has been plaguing Norway all year. The presence of Maren Mjelde back in the midfield would surely stabilise the side but with persistent injuries to either Maria Thorisdottir or Nora Holstad-Berge have kept the captain in the back line, unable to give her best to the team. Neither have been fully fit this season and so Sjögren took a calculated risk before the Belgium game to drop Thorisdottir into the defence with Holstad and push Mjelde back into midfield. An injury to the Klepp woman in the warm-up enough to put paid to those plans. Without a visible midfield – despite a number of talented midfielders in their ranks – the team has struggled across the breadth of the pitch, the defence exposed and the attack left floating unable to combine. You feel that if the team was able to call upon Mjelde in midfield, she would restore the balance and bring a presence back, the defence able to stand on it's own with Holstad and Thorisdottir in the middle and Elise Thorsnes and Ingrid Moe Wold the dependable fullbacks.
With more oomph in midfield, the team would be able to find more harmony going forward and Caroline Graham Hansen, Ada Hegerberg and Kristine Minde wouldn’t be left to put in a lone performance, disjointed from their teammates. With one of the best attackers (if not the best) in the world in Hegerberg, not to mention Graham Hansen who at times has been overshadowed by her compatriot, Norway shouldn’t be struggling for goals and yet they are. It’s not for Hegerberg or Graham Hansen to carry the team, though, as both are still young and need to be part of a winning team not the lone shining light.
[...] 23-07-2017, Sophie Lawson -- An early exit wouldn’t be the end of the world for Norway

International duty
Tumblr media
After the poor Euros, the Norwegian manager Martin Sjögren was sacked and replaced by the U-19 Norwegian manager Hege Riise. With the managerial and technical team changes, major national team call-ups were going to change, that with the addition of Caroline Graham Hansen's temporary national team leave, allowed other Norwegian players to get called up for national team duties.
On a random Wednesday evening, the Wolfsburg academy grown winger, Y/N Y/L/N got a call from Hege Riise herself "Hi kiddo" said the manager who had previously worked with the Norwegian winger in a U-19's European Cup a while back "How do you feel about joining us for the national team break next week" asked the manager enthusiastically "Making your debut against Spain sure sounds interesting no?" added Hege. Y/N who still couldn't believe the national team call-up asked "Wait- really? I- I can't believe it" added the winger "I won't disappoint you! Thank you so much for the opportunity" she added full of enthusiasm.
The weekend arrived, Wolfsburg had a game away against Hoffenheim. On the way to the game, Y/N's call up for the national team was made public, in consequence, Y/N's phone started to blow up with congratulatory texts and tweets. Y/N who loved to interact with her fans on social media, started to repost and reply to as many messages as she could, right until a notification left her paralysed. Y/N's idol had messaged her on Instagram "Kiddo! Congrats on the call up, you looked great at the U-19s euros. You will kill it with the national team", Y/N was speechless, she couldn't believe Caroline Graham Hansen herself had watched her play, let alone that she had dm'd her.
Lynn Wilms, who as usual sat next to Y/N during their team travels saw the message on Y/N's screen, as she looked at her teammate she realised that Y/N was frozen in time. "Wake up" said Wilms as she hit her teammates shoulder bringing the Norwegian winger back from wherever she was mentally "You deserve it, you have been playing out of your boots" said the dutch international. Y/N laughed "Is that even the right idiom?" asked the winger as she mocked her teammate "Either way, thank you" added Y/N "I- I don't know what to reply" she followed up as she showed Lynn Caro's dm.
"Show me" Jill, who had been listening to the conversation jumped in "Aw that's cute" added the midfielder as she started to type something on Y/N's phone. "Wha- What are you doing?" asked the Norwegian as she watched Jill type away "Um... a non fangirl reply" replied Jill clearly mocking her fellow teammate as she gave the phone back to Y/N. "Thanks Jill" said the winger "It's actually not bad" she added. "Of course it's not, it came from me" replied Jill striking a sassy pose "A bit full of yourself no?" joked Lynn. The mockery was cut short as the bus arrived at Hoffenheim's stadium.
Tommy Stroot, Wolfsburg's manager, had decided to use Y/N as a super sub. The team was drawing 1-1 away from home, a result not good enough. "Y/N go warm up, you are coming in" announced the manager. It was the 70th minute as the winger was getting her last instructions from her manager on the sideline. The Norwegians pace and technicality could change a game in minutes. Y/N hadn't even been a 5 minutes on the pitch and she had already created two clear chances.
The third chance time was the charm, Lena Oberdorf lobbed a ball behind Hoffenheim's back line, Y/N ran onto it and was clear on goal. The Norwegian winger managed to run past her mark and was left 1v1 against the keeper who was off her line, Y/N chipped the keeper beautifully giving Wolfsburg the lead. "OMG" screamed Lena as she ran towards her teammate to celebrate the goal, along with her other teammates. "And you doubted why you got the call up" celebrated Alexandra Popp as she hugged Y/N "you deserve it kiddo" added the German international.
They went on to win the game 4-1. Y/N had not only scored, but also assisted another goal and was key in the build up play for the 4th goal.
On their way back to Wolfsburg, Y/N went trough her texts and dm's. She soon found Ingrid Engen's message "Great game today! Can't wait to play with you next week" Y/N was over the moon, her new national team teammates had pretty much all watched the game and were congratulating her on her amazing performance. Maren Mjelde, the Norwegian captain, added Y/N to the WhatsApp group chat "Welcome to the big leagues Y/N" joked Maren "Get some rest, you come play with us on monday" added the captain.

Martin is the Norway coach. He was a good club coach. He coached pernille Magda Frido stina jonna and a bunch of others in linkoping. pernille has said he is the best coach and thanked him when she won her player of the year thing for uefa.
Oh wow, that's really a stable of very good players he developed. It says he's been in charge of the Norway wnt since 2016, any reason why it still doesn't seem to be clicking for them? Cause six years seems plenty of time to develop a squad and instil your philosophies... 🤔
